  • This is the most insane wooden roller coaster ever built! Located in Santa Claus Indiana, The Voyage opened at Holiday World in 2006, towering over the park with its MASSIVE 159 foot tall lift hill, and sprawling 6,442 feet of track. The ride feels like a wooden hyper coaster with its enormous airtime hills in the first half, and a fast paced low to the ground second half. There's simply nothing else like it!

I rode this in 2009 with the 7-car train. 7th car front row was the most unreal coaster experience I’ve ever had. This was also before the mid-course trims slowed it down so the extra weight had it flying through the second half. That was the day I became a coaster enthusiast.

I rode The Voyage for my first time back in July on a trip featuring Holiday World, Kentucky Kingdom, and Kings Island. I got 10 rides, and while it kinda hurt (also from riding The Legend and The Raven; Holiday World is EXHAUSTING), I fell in love with the ride! There is no doubt that The Voyage is the greatest wooden coaster in the world and also became my number one out of the 170 credits I have. No ride does what The Voyage does. It combines a B&M Hyper (going out) with an Intamin Blitz (spaghetti bowl) and finishes out with the first half of Fury 325 (return trip), all on a wooden track. It’s the most complete roller coaster I have ever ridden and that’s why it’s my number 1. The other coasters in my top 5 are VelociCoaster (#2), Intimidator 305 (#3), Fury 325 (#4), and Lightning Rod (#5), and The Voyage beats all of them.
This review perfectly describes my experience on The Voyage! Get out to Holiday World and ride it NOW.

Where is Steele vengeance in your list!? I will say as holiday world is my home park and I’ve gotten in over 500 rides on it, voyage made number #1 on my list…. Well, until… I rode Steele vengeance at cedar point. It took the #1 spot, for the most intense ride I have ever ridden, and the reason being is because Steele vengeance is a rollercoaster you would only see in video games, or a movie like final destination. But to see it not on peoples list on here absolutely blows my mind!

    • @garminkid
      @garminkid 12 дней назад

@@Death12650 Steel Vengeance only ranks 10th out of 202 credits for me. I agree Cedar Point went all out, but as I ride it more, it feels repetitive and one-sided. It does airtime and nothing else while also not being as aggressive as other RMCs or even other coasters. My favorite RMC is Wildcat’s Revenge and that’s only 8th on my list.
I prefer coasters with a great mix of forces. I love positive Gs and launches and laterals! Some enthusiasts can be too airtime-focused, and while opinions are opinions, I disagree. Here’s my current top 10 as of September 2024:
      1. The Voyage
      2. VelociCoaster
      3. Intimidator 305
      4. Pantheon

Rode it in 2006 and 2007 and can attest it was quite the experience. The ending sequence felt very unique because of how rapid fire the elements came at you while at the same time had no rhythm to them. It was the type of intensity that made a lot of riders laugh. I remember the first time I rode The Voyage- when it opened in 2006. We got to the mid-course brake run, and I thought "Dang, this is a good ride," to only find out it was only half done. Like your enthusiast quotes, I would call it a masterpiece.
Not that I ever knew Will Koch personally, but I can guarantee you he was heavily influenced by The Beast (Legacy credits to it). He would have gone to KI as a young guy to ride the Beast in its prime (when it broke and held all the records), and when he turned Santa Claus Land into Holiday World, he certainly took inspiration from The Beast when building the coasters at his park. The Raven drops into a dark tunnel before speeding through the woods. The Legend makes great use of terrain and has a 540 degree helix (semi) finale. Finally, when his park was thriving, he built the crown jewel of all wood coasters- The Voyage- which does everything its predecessors have done only better. Will Koch's role in the development of this coaster should not be understated; he definitely left us too soon, but fortunately he left us with one hell of a legacy.

This is my home park, and I've ridden The Voyage many hundreds of times. It would probably be thousands by now, but the ride is very intense and hard to marathon beyond 3-5 rides at a time.
As for the 7-car train, that last car was incredible. It would also run without the mid-course brakes, and they would put all 3 trains they had during the opening year and year following. The queue would completely fill the bottom part of the station and stretch outside. The Timberliner debacle had them get rid of those trains for the Timberliners, then they had to pull extra PTC trains from the Raven and Legend to run after the Timberliners fell through. That's why they only have 6 cars now.

@@rossh688 Coaster trains are hideously expensive (>$1mil each), and they'd have to buy at least two of them. And it's not needed, as outside of Holiwood Nights they rarely get an insanely long line. When they do eventually replace the trains I think they might go back to 7 car trains, but they're simply not needed right now.

They ended up using Raven's 2nd train for that season since they were left with only 1 original train, to allow for 2 train ops on Voyage since it's longer, and bought a fresh one in 2011.

@@triple7marc yeh I road it last week! I Unbelievable ride. Form what I have heard of Legend a lot of people say it’s kinda GR+ so Im really looking forward to someday getting on it. Not sure if it would wind up beating GR because of the nostalgia I have for that ride but I would not be surprised if it wound up in my top 5.

The Voyage is my #1 overall, but admittedly, the only other #1 contending coaster I've ridden is Fury 325. I've never ridden anything outside the US, and I haven't been able to get on many of the US coasters I hear get put at #1 often.

No, I have 689 credits and I still put Voyage as my overall number one 1 coaster. It's very good, especially when it runs without trims.

@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od I love that! I wasn't sure I was going to like it more than Fury, but after my second ride, there was no question. Knowing what I like about coasters, I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up liking Steel Vengeance more. I'm hoping to be able to go to Holiwood Nights either in 2024 or 2025.

Marissa and I hit a Deer (I was driving) in September 2019 just north of Santa Claus, Indiana around 10 minutes after we left Holiday World. Three does, a couple fawns, and a buck crossed the road, and I thought they were done. The sun was just going down. But another deer leapt out and clipped off my left headlight and went on its merry way into the east side woods. Cost me $250 plus $thousands in future insurance premium rate increases. Damn it!

Voyage is my favorite coaster of all time, and nothing even really comes close. Even with the trims on. Granted I've only ridden 288 coasters, but that includes most (if not all) of the coasters in the US that enthusiasts consider "elite". Steel Vengeance, Velocicoaster, X2, Maverick, El Toro, Lightning Rod (wooden), Fury 325, Millennium Force, Skyrush, Phoenix, Boardwalk Bullet, Phantom's Revenge, The Beast? Done them all, but Voyage still reigns supreme. I can't really even think of any coaster on the planet that would beat Voyage in my ranking. I've attended Holiwood Nights the past three years, but that ship unfortunately has sailed (no pun intended). While I would love to fly from California to Indiana for a fourth year in a row to ride my #1 coaster, it's just too difficult and expensive of a trip. With how stressful getting tickets was in 2022 and 2023, I just became burnt out from the whole thing and didn't even try to get tickets for HWN 2024 this morning. Maybe in a few years I'll return :)

It has 6 cars because, after the timberliner plan fell through, they needed new trains for it. Instead of buying new ones for voyage, they brought over ravens old trains and then bought new ones for raven. So the current trains are the old raven trains

Supposedly, the topography of the ground the ride sits on puts the station at the lowest elevation. If that is true, it means that the ride is generally going downhill all the way back to the station. I once heard an enthusiast say that the Voyage starts with a bang and ends with an explosion. I thought that was a pretty fair description.😂

Back in 2016 I did one after I experienced it for the first time. Back then, I had only done it twice, and both rides were in the daytime. The video did not truly do the ride the justice it deserves.
