I went to Holiday World for the first time a few weeks ago as part of a small weekend trip that also included Kentucky Kingdom. With a heat index in the 100s, and after 10 rides, The Voyage is my new number 1 out of the 170 coasters I’ve ridden. There is no other coaster that does what The Voyage does! Having such a perfect combination of airtime, laterals, pacing, length, and even positive Gs makes it a complete ride. Going out feels like a wooden B&M Hyper, the spaghetti bowl feels like an Intamin Blitz, and the return trip is its own level of wooden coaster insanity. I would have to take a deep breath every time I hit the brake run because it’s so intense! Even though it’s smooth, riding an intense woodie that goes on for that long grinds on you, especially with that crazy heat. I loved every second of The Voyage no matter what time of day it is. It’s the best roller coaster on the planet for me and was worth going to Holiday World on its own!

I rode last summer and was in back and near front seats for a few morning rides. Never got evening or night ride and was underwhelmed. It was a blast, but didn't meet God tier reputation for me. I am completely certain i would have had a far better ride later in the day. Hope to get back there to give it a better shot later in the day.

A general rule of thumb, esp nowadays.. the greater a ride is amongst enthusiasts, the more polarizing it will be when you also include the GP (Voyage, Sky Rush, Intimidator 305)... however exceptions do exist (maverick& steel vengeance, velocicoaster)
Voyage is my favorite all time coaster.. but depending on when you ride in the parks' maintenance cycle in retracking, it can make or break the ride for those forceful parts becoming rough. Personally, I think even with the mcbr trimming you, the ride is still powerful beyond the triple down.. but i totally get why Voyage isn't for everyone; it's a huge endurance test. If you don't have the core strength & you're just being thrown around, the ride will beat you up.. or if you have wide hips and barely fit... or you dont tighten your fabric seatbelt and the hard restraint pushes on you instead etc. You gotta know how to ride,. i usually can only do 2 or 3 rides in a row before i need a break.. & i would be satisfied with one ride in a day because it's the longest single-lift woodie & it virtually has no dead spots. (I disagree and find the first few big floater hills absolutely satisfying and fun even on a slow day)

I am sorry to hear that your experience on this ride wasn't that great, because when I rode it last June, that was honestly the best wooden roller coaster I've been on because of the length of the ride, the speed, the tunnels, and basically everything else this ride had. Well, either this or Lightning Rod at Dollywood is my favorite wooden roller coaster. It all depends if we still consider it to be wooden or not.

They actually retracked a lot last season including the first valley and airtime hill

I recommend going in june on a wednesday for the lower crowds and shorter wait times.

I LOVED The Voyage. Loved it, but I walked away from it with the same feeling. Maybe it was the time of day... I didn't get any night rides, but I did get 6 rides in front, back, all over. Great ride, but overrated. The return back is repetitive, the triple down is... forceless. The first half is absolutely incredible and wooden coaster heaven, but yeah the last half is just not as exciting as I feel people built it up to be. It's fast and fun, but not incredible... I almost like The Legend more. It's got a couple moments of reprieve and lacks airtime, but it's relentless and that helix lasts forever. Such a surprise.

I felt similarly…until I rode it trimless at night at Holiwood Nights. If you ever get the opportunity, trust me that you’ll DEFINITELY no longer be calling the triple down forceless lol

It’s too bad you didn’t enjoy it, I find it to be relentless. Voyage is fantastic, just behind El Toro and ahead of Ride to Happiness for my favorite coaster and I’ve never been to Holliwoodnights which I’m sure is even greater.

I actually do find this to be the most overrated coaster. It's very good. But it's not top 10 good. And just in that same region I'd easily take Mystic Timbers and Storm Chaser over Voyage. And it definitely doesn't compete with El Toro for me or wooden Lightning Rod. And even with recent track work it's still a bit rough.
I do like the Voyage and it's my favorite in the park. But I definitely can't personally relate to all of the hype.
