Another thing is the difference in quarterbacks. Larry has had I think only one pro-bowler quarterback pre-Murray(correct me if I’m wrong). This isn’t to take away from any of these other legends, but when you’re a gifted athlete at WR, a good QB will do so much, and a great QB/WR duo is almost unstoppable. But when Fitzgerald hasn’t ever really gotten quite the chance to build that chemistry and he still puts up the numbers that he does, it goes to show just how great of a wide receiver he is.
Larry Fitzgerald. No contest. There are videos of him catching ball hanging upside down. Finding clips of him dropping an even remotely catchable pass is hard. He has dropped some… but a lot of very celebrated receivers have like 10-15 bad drops per season. In 17 years Larry only dropped 29 balls. 1.7 passes per season. And he’s highly targeted. Not like he doesn’t get thrown at.
I have no doubt in my mind that if the Lions hadn’t ruined Calvin Johnson, making him retire early, he would’ve been top 3 WR all time hands down. Or in his case, up. Chances are, he would’ve been an incredibly strong argument for this category. The second he touched the ball, you weren’t taking the ball out of his hands, or hitting him hard enough to make him drop it. He made routine impossible catches, and has the record for most Receiving yards in a single season all time. Calvin Johnson was an absolute beast and force to be reckoned with. It really is a shame the Lions were so horrible to him. I think that he had best hands all time, just wasn’t given enough time to prove it.
Calvin Johnson I think is the most talented WR of all time based upon skill and stature, he wasn’t known for his hands as much and he’s short career in guessing is why. If I’m throwing a ball up to anyone though….it would be Johnson
They forgot about Steve Largent a receiver who played his whole career with the Seahawks and retired with all the records, Reception record with 819, 100 touchdowns and most receiving yards 13,089 and 177 games with a reception. He proved to everyone that just because he's small and not that fast he can become one of the best receivers of all time that Jerry Rice Idolized.
My man!!! You are not wrong! I love largent and always think he is overlooked when it comes to receiver categories. Not to mention he had garbage QBs throwing to him unlike rice who had Montana, and then he leaves and oh no, I get Steve young. Two HOF QBs?! You better get those stats. Good for you for remembering the trail blazer.
Randy Moss was my favorite player. Randy had that long lanky basketball player build. 6'4 210 4.25 speed and football IQ. The man had all the tools to be the greatest of all time. Unfortunately my man took alot of plays off.
I remember one day in 4th grade when a kid caught a ball over the most talented kid in our school and we all screamed mossssseddd!!! For 2 minutes straight
I had a similar even in 8th grade when I picked off this 5,9 guy and I was 5'5 it may not sound like it but he was way taller but everybody went crazy when I caught it from him
I know not enough people got to see Larry play to understand just how good his catches week in and week out were. From terrible QBs like josh Rosen, matt linehert, John Skelton lol. To name a few. But if you want real evidence he had the best hands you just gotta watch interviews of other players talking about Fitz. The cards have a history of bringing in veterans from other teams late in their careers. Guys like emit smith , edrin James So on. And those guys in interviews would say that even in practice Fitz would make catches that made them stop in their tracks.
To be honest Steve Largent has better hands since all the receivers mentioned wore gloves whereas Largent was bare handed by choice and still managed to be one of the best receivers of all time.
i think it's scary that nobody on this whole comment section did not mention my pick: cris "all he does is catch touchdowns" carter. if we're talking about only hands? he has to be the guy. as far as jumping ability, his ex-teammate moss could attest to this. we don't even know how many lessons and tricks carter showed randy during their time as viking teammates. he also impresses because it didn't matter what qb was throwing to him. if you put it in his radius he will haul it in. you will picks based on the highlight exploits of modern receivers like beckham jr. but a steady solid receiver who drops few if any passes like a hopkins and can make the biggest catches should be the consensus. in football, it's all a matter of opinion. megatron, julio, can't guard mike, t.o. dropped too many but had solid hands. rice is the best of all time overall. speed wise, anyone's guess.
I always thought Fitz hands down and Marshall Faulk out of Backfield. Faulk was a better receiver than 75% of guys playing the position, but he was such a great runner…. Can’t justify lining him up out.

Supposedly, Raymond Berry only ever dropped two passes in all of the games he played. He caught 631 passes in his career. If true, that means that he averaged dropping 1 out of every 315 passes he touched. Sorry guys, but that's easily the best hands of all time. The guy used to run pass patterns in total darkness and he would catch 8/10...and he was legally blind in one eye. The fact that nobody earlier than Rice was even considered is mind boggling. I understand that drops weren't recorded, so there's no way to verify claims, but the phrase "of all-time," should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, the guys mentioned here do have undeniably great hands...
It’s worth mentioning- Randy Moss doesn’t get fair representation here.. what they are leaving out is that moss had so many more deep balls than all the rest (often the hardest /most contested catches to make) not to mention that since Randy’s rookie season - he’s been “Moss” (double and triple covered, the most feared receiver ever) making it look like the defenders weren’t even there.
