Bronko Nagurski! While I am happy with some of the old school recognition in this list, one cannot forget the truly iconic OGs of the sport. When being inducted into the Pro Football HOF in 1963, his presenter said (in part) : "It's indeed a pleasure for me to take a small part in presenting this great honor to Bronko Nagurski. Bo Jackson had no preseason and was so fast people probably forget he was just as strong as any rb who ever played. You have to remember he injured himself breaking a tackle that ended his career, how is that over looked
These lists are very subjective and bound to cause controversy, but no doubt you got #1 and #2 correct -- Jim Brown and Earl Campbell were the best power backs all time.
No way. Brown is so overrated as a power back. He had genius level skills in traffic. Similar to Warrick Dunn. The way he leveraged his body with angles and twists. But the commentator is drunk. Brown evaded most defenders, and most of the rest seemed to not know how to tackle. Today brown might be cut. And Earl Campbell was one of the best Tailbacks in history. He ran a 9.6. Had great vision and elusive skills. He would be all pro at 200 lbs
Y’all need to look at Pete Johnson. A 270# Nightmare who could also catch the ball. He should definitely be on this list. Dan Bunz tackle of Johnson in the Super Bowl is considered one of the greatest tackles in NFL. History. He literally broke his nose and blew out his ear drums tackling Johnson. Pete was definitely more feared than several selections to this list.
I was at Beast Quake. I told my wife on the way home that felt like an earthquake when I turned sports on the next day it was all over the news. Feeling a concrete stadium shaking like that was a crazy feeling.
Brown was asked once about all the end zone celebrations that started in the 70's. His response? 'Act like you've been there before'. He was there 126 times so he oughta know.
Absolutely! In the beginning, end zone antics only occurred after a truly spectacular score. Now every tackle, catch, or 1st down is celebrated. Why? Aren't those regular things that are part of the job.
You forgot the greatest running back ever (in my opinion), Walter Payton. Along with Emmitt Smith, Bo Jackson, and Barry Sanders. All of them would embarrass anyone in NFL history.
If Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders switched teams you wouldn't know who the fuck Emmitt Smith was and Sanders would be held in the same regard as Peyton is now, greatest of all time. As it stands he's still a top 5 without a doubt. Smith might be a top 15 because of the longevity of his career and his toughness, but he shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Peyton or Sanders. I'm pretty sure I might be the only person who thinks this but it is what it is...
@@vega2149 The video isnt titled "Scariest Power Backs". If you dont think defenders lost sleep thinking about how Sweetness or Barry would make them look silly on national TV then you should revisit some highlights. You dont have to truck stick people to make them fear you... Jerry Rice didnt run through anybody... nobody wanted a piece of him except maybe Deion. And Deion is infamous for making his "business decisions", even if they are overblown. I'm sure there was a plethora of receivers who feared him.
Walter Payton not mentioned? Sweetness didn’t describe his play. He could stiff arm a tackler and knock them out. Saw him get off the ground doing a one arm push up handstand. He trained by running the sand dunes in northwest indiana. Career NFL statistics Rushing yards: 16,726 Yards per carry: 4.4 Rushing touchdowns: 110 Receptions: 492 Receiving yards: 4,538 Receiving touchdowns: 15
YTube footage of Csonka in 1972/1973 trying to be brought down by 7 Baltimore Colts. He stood his ground, eventually succumbing to the defense. A beast.
I remember the game where Steve Atwater knocked out Christian Okoye 5-10 yards shy of the goal-line on a 3rd & 1, or something like that, but the hit was so loud, you could hear it all the way in Arvada 😄
Yes, he's #1 on that list. This is a power-back list. If you ever make that list, please don't forget the often-forgotten backs of the 70's, like Greg Pruitt, Terry Metcalf, Chuck Foreman, Joe Washington, Lydell Mitchell, Mercury Morris, Dickie Post, Floyd Little, etc. All of them routinely shook defenders out of their shoes!
I was glad to see Henry and Okoye both on this list. Not taking away from anyone else on the list but they in my opinion they are tops in each of their era's and definitely deserve to be here.
Jim Brown before my time. Earl Campbell was a man amongst boys as a rookie. Most powerful back I ever saw. OJ Simpson 1973 still the greatest year for a running back Over 2000 yards in 14 games
Many props!! Great list. There are some coaches who totally think outside the box. Bum Phillips once tried to get Riggins as Campbell's blocking/ number two back. Also, if I remember correctly, it wasn't so much his record, it was that Brown thought Harris was soft.
@@24gmj2010 correct-plus Harris did not run out of bounds because time was an issue-he was, compared to Brown and others I could mention, soft-Brown never ran out of bounds to avoid contact as he wanted every player who tackled him (or tried to) to feel it

@@vestibulate I'll answer that. I want to be terrified and have nightmares for weeks. Like you take one look at this power back and you start sweating before you even put on a uniform and line up against him.
Jim Brown was great for his time but he played when defensive linemen were much smaller. At 230 lbs. and 6’ 2” he was as big as most of them. So unlike many of the other power backs whose opposing linemen average 280 and up just maybe he shouldn’t be number one on this list.
Wrong. He played as late as 1965. You people act like he played 300 years ago. He was not as big as most of the DL. In fact there were 300 lbs DL before he even played. As I have said a zillian times on these forums he was both bigger and faster than W. Payton & E. Smith. A. Peterson was under 230 lbs, E. Campbell was at 230 & Csonka was about 235. Now explain to me how JB would not have been superior to all those guys when they played.
Earl Campbell was the greatest power back of all time. @@cperkins5050 I need to shake your hand for this comment 🤝
Nagurski is no mere name. It's an international way of saying football. Bronko Nagurski, born just over the Canadian border of Ukrainian immigrants. Bronko Nagurski who became unanimous All-American among the worshipping Scandinavian of Minnesota. Bronko Nagurski in any language means tower of strength on defense, power on offense. Bronko Nagurski is the only name in all history to appear on the honored list for both backfield man and lineman. Bronko Nagurski was named all- pro at fullback and at tackle. Bronko Nagurski is a cause of the Bears awesome nickname, Monsters of the Midway. He gained miles on attack and didn't budge an inch on defense. Bronko Nagurski was on four World Championship teams. For the fourth he climbed out of six years retirement and gleamed as brightly as ever. Bronko Nagurski inspired this one sentence scout report from Steve Owens - He runs his own interference. " 'Nuff said.
Nagurski was a freak. He played so hard, that he creaked the brickwall at wrigley field.
Bo Jackson had no preseason and was so fast people probably forget he was just as strong as any rb who ever played. You have to remember he injured himself breaking a tackle that ended his career, how is that over looked
Well .No doubt he was a good RB .But not all that durable . Great athlete no doubt
These lists are very subjective and bound to cause controversy, but no doubt you got #1 and #2 correct -- Jim Brown and Earl Campbell were the best power backs all time.
Earl was a beast. I'd rather get tackled then have to tackle him
Yes young lady, thank you!!!
I'm a guy
@@rancejackson7687 my reply wasn't to you, it was to Kathy.
Jamal Lewis is worthy of a mention.
Going real old school - Marion Motley
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! An 'Original' bruising runner with speed!
Saki Then there's Nagurski.
@@vestibulate Absolutely!
That dude was literally bigger than the defensive players, and fast.
I agree with a lot of these… but where is Walter Payton?
Walter Payton was not just a POWER back. He is in a different class. Best all-round back in football history.
I was at Beast Quake. I told my wife on the way home that felt like an earthquake when I turned sports on the next day it was all over the news. Feeling a concrete stadium shaking like that was a crazy feeling.
I think RB Walter Peyton for the Bears should have been here. He died of liver cancer i think but he was really great.
Yes, Walter broke many tackles and punished defenders with his 'high-knee action' running style.
They weren’t powerbacks
@@vega2149 Bo Jackson wasn't a power back?
Smith wouldn't...
The Diesel was unbelievable. Has more yards after 30 years old than in his 20’s.
I feel like LaDainian Tomlinson should have been on this list he was fast and would power thru anybody coming at him
Walter Payton not mentioned? Sweetness didn’t describe his play. He could stiff arm a tackler and knock them out. Saw him get off the ground doing a one arm push up handstand. He trained by running the sand dunes in northwest indiana. Career NFL statistics

Okoye was the one having nightmares after he met Steve Atwater
Lol.... They didn't say that part
the only man to put down Okoye and this from a Chiefs fan
Lol okoye trucked atwater more than atwater hit him lol
YTube footage of Csonka in 1972/1973 trying to be brought down by 7 Baltimore Colts. He stood his ground, eventually succumbing to the defense. A beast.
" Okoye never went down with only one guy "
laugh in steve atwater 😂😂
Ray Lewis ended his career!
U must have him confused with bam Morrison
I remember the game where Steve Atwater knocked out Christian Okoye 5-10 yards shy of the goal-line on a 3rd & 1, or something like that, but the hit was so loud, you could hear it all the way in Arvada 😄
Honorable mention Criag "Ironhead" Heyward he was like a human bowling ball ⛹
Look at the youtube highlights. Craig Heyward was definitely feared!
Alstotts balance and athleticism is unreal. He not only trucked, he broke ankles.
Can we talk about Steve Atwater killing Okoye on MNF
Well put together, It would be difficult to find an argument against any of the given selected. Even against the order they fell in.
Fear of being embarassed=Barry Sanders!
The fact that AP isn't on this list is a joke! AP was power and speed, you must not of ever watched him play. AP embarrassed defensive players.
Ong AP was the goat of powerbacks 💯
Great videos Non stop sports
Not started it yet, but if Earl Campbell is not in here Imma Pop!
earl campbell on monday night football was awesome fun. howard cosell and don meredith. those were good times!!!
I hope earl Campbell is on this list
Jim Brown before my time.
Earl Campbell was a man amongst boys as a rookie. Most powerful back I ever saw.
OJ Simpson 1973 still the greatest year for a running back
Over 2000 yards in 14 games
Great to see marshawn lynch on this list!! I'm seahawk fan from 1976 season I miss him not playing
Many props!! Great list. There are some coaches who totally think outside the box. Bum Phillips once tried to get Riggins as Campbell's blocking/ number two back. Also, if I remember correctly, it wasn't so much his record, it was that Brown thought Harris was soft.
Exactly correct about Jimmy B's opinion of Franco. Franco started that running out of bounds mess that is so prevalent in the NFL today.
@@24gmj2010 correct-plus Harris did not run out of bounds because time was an issue-he was, compared to Brown and others I could mention, soft-Brown never ran out of bounds to avoid contact as he wanted every player who tackled him (or tried to) to feel it
Huh? No Bo Jackson? Leroy Hoard? And nobody wanted to catch a knee from Roger Craig. Hoard and Craig were really under rated during their careers. But Bo Jackson should've been on this list.
Bo knows power! 🤣😂🤣 but Earl was my favorite, my Dad would take me to watch the oilers in training camp at San Angelo state. When I was a kid! Earl was always nice to me
The most feared RB ever goes to one man and one man only: Herschel Walker!!! How dare you not put him on this list smfh PURE BLASPHEMY
Injuries...
@@dc7236 naw, im not buying "injuries". Out of the 13 seasons he played in the NFL he only had 4 seasons where he didn't play all 16 (he had a 5 game season which is your only injury argument, and the rest were a 11, 12, and 15 game season).
@@ChristmasCrybaby his afl days were his best years. Trading him off was the best thing for the cowboys....
@@dc7236 "his afl days were his best years" lmfao he played in the USFL, you dunce. that proves you don't really know what you're talking about. His numbers were better in the USFL, sure, but he wasn't playing the same talent. He was just as great in the NFL, rushing and receiving, his first stint with the cowboys in particular. If he wasn't that great than the cowboys would have never been able to pull of the greatest trade of all-time that lead to their 90's dynasty. No matter how you slice it, he should be on the list.
@@ChristmasCrybaby ok you know what I meant.... The other football league at the time
I have watched all those players play during their time. Just so amazed there are so many great ones.
IMO, the most "feared" Running Backs are those who are wildly shifty as hell and will compromise your knee ligaments while turning you into a meme like Barry & Gale 😂
Walter Payton ..... That is all .
Don't forget prime Shady McCoy
Nah feared are the ones who you know will run right through you or around you so you literally can’t do anything to stop them until the rest of them team comes to help tackle aka Bo Jackson
Depending what era your from, & I know most of these lists are alot of recent players of this era, but Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Bronko Nagurski & Earl Campbell are the backs your hit with 3 players, & still couldn't stop them!
They aren’t scared of them they are scared of losing their jobs you can’t play against someone you’re scared of.
They're scared of seeing themselves on the wrong end of Sportscenter highlights every week too. Ask Josh Norman😂 Its funny how one stiff arm redefines your career
Just here for the Derrick Henry highlights.
"Kratos with shoulder pads"? I'm stealing that one.
Bo Jackson was 240, could run like a man possessed and could go right through you. Also, when healthy, started over Marcus Allen, why? Cause Bo was just better than everyone else 🤷🏻♂️
Truth, period!
#1 Earl Campbell #2 Larry Czonka #3 Jim Brown.
No love for Frank Gore?
Mike Alstott was also the last traditional running FB. AND he was a very good person.
Bo was the scariest prove me wrong
bluesysalt I'm genuinely intrigued. What are you criteria on this challenge? I mean, how scared do you want to get?
@@vestibulate I'll answer that. I want to be terrified and have nightmares for weeks. Like you take one look at this power back and you start sweating before you even put on a uniform and line up against him.
Steve Atwater ended Christian Okoye’s aura of invincibility with one hit that threw Okoye backwards 5 yards
Adrian Peterson
Right wtf
Alstott, Okoye, Bettis, Brown.
Really nice video!
Brandon Jacobs better be on this list !!!
Edit : AND HE ISN'T. IMAGINE LEAVING A 2 TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMPION WHOSE 6'4 264 LBs OFF THIS LIST SMH
Jacobs barley saw over 200 carries in his best years. Spent his entire career in a timeshare
Earl was scary big, but one man wasn't scared. That lick Tatum put on him at the goal line knocked them both out.
Yes, the mentality of Jack Tatum and the era he played in was different. Jack paralyzed a WR. Half of these diva WRs couldn't have played back then.
But Earl still scored and won the game
@@JoseManuel-uj8px Yes, and the man that employed Earl, hired Jack to come play for him.
I absolutely love The Nigerian nightmare but there was a time he got killed by Steve Atwater. Look it up!
Nonstop if the most feared football youtuber...
Jim Brown was great for his time but he played when defensive linemen were much smaller. At 230 lbs. and 6’ 2” he was as big as most of them. So unlike many of the other power backs whose opposing linemen average 280 and up just maybe he shouldn’t be number one on this list.
Yea ok
Jamal Lewis is underrated definitely should be on this
Belive in God and jesus and spread the gospel and word of God and jesus put God and jesus first 🙏 🙌❤♥ 💖♥ 🙌❤♥❤♥❤ 🙌 ♥ 🙏 🙌❤♥

Earl Campbell was the greatest power back of all time. There are greater running backs but not any better in sheer power. the run in which he runs over the Rams defensive player and steps on is chest is legendary. For just sheer power alone I would choose him first then the Bus then Alstott and then probably Henry or Riggins.
Marshawn Lynch Is The Greatest Rb Ever (but more Rb's are better than him.)
Hes not even top 3 running backs of all time
@@STEELEAGLES2019 he is good but I agree ! Greatest ever imo Barry Sanders . Bettis and Alstott are my favs but Sanders is the goat or Walter Payton .
It's just opinion not yours it's just mine
@@MeLoNHeAd00 idk sanders is the goat but AP is getting up into the conversation of top 5
The most iconic, amazing, breathtaking moment in power back history when Earl Campbell gets his jersey ripped off vs the Rams.
And this video editor cut it out. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 👎🏻
Is this the same voice over guy from the Montage King??? Love this guy
This is a great selection of bull backs.
Not sure why AP isn't on the lost. Dude was the most versatile runner I have ever seen. Agility with the best of them, breakaway speed like nobody else in the league at the time besides maybe CJ2K, and literally steam rolled guys like Jerome Bettis. I don't think a single defensive coordinator for an 8 year stretch went into Minnesota with any sleep from 2007-2015.
Finally a great list
1) - Jim Taylor
2) - Mike Alstott
3) - Larry Csonka
4) - Marshawn Lynch
5) - John Riggins
6) - Derrick Henry
7) - Christian Okoye
8) - Jerome Bettis
9) - Earl Campbell
10) - Jim Brown
Well done; arguably not perfect but still great work.
This was a great list, a little surprised Payton and Peterson weren't on it.
Been following football since the great QB Y A Tittle in the 1960’s. Jim Brown and Earl Campbell for me. Great job!
Wow...i don't know if I would agree with this list. Here is how my version of the list should look... #10-Priest Holmes (KC) #9-Bo Jackson (Raiders) #8-Christian Okoye (KC) #7-Edgerin James (Colts) #6-John Riggins (Washington) #5-Jerome Bettis {Steelers) #4-Marshall Faulk (Rams) #3-Earl Cambell (Oilers) #2-Larry Czonka (Dolphins) #1-Jim Brown (Browns)
Good list, Brown was the most dominant back of his era but comparing pure hard power runners...I think Earl Campbell gets the nod as #1.
Yes I agree Earl Campbell first Jim Brown second
Good list! Nice mixture of all the various eras of the game.Well done!
The only names I would add are Walter Payton and Marion Motley. Neither of those guys shied away from contact, especially Payton.
these videos are so good
