Another player that deserves to be an honorable mention is Packers legend Sterling Sharpe. Had it not been for a freak neck injury, he would have put up some gaudy career numbers. In only 7 seasons, he led the league in receptions 3 times, touchdowns twice, and yards once, not to mention breaking what was the season receptions record in 1992 with 108, and topping that record the following season with 112
I believe when Shannon was inducted he said something like, “I’m surprised to have made the Hall of Fame as be regarded as one of the best in the game when I wasn’t even the best player in my family.” Not a dry eye there…
@@brentjones886 Unfortunately, Sterling's window to get into the NFL HoF has expired. He is in the Packer HoF and the College Football HoF. Back in 2008 I visited the NFL HoF. They had a display for back to back years breaking the catch'/year record. I doubt the display is there any more, but I have the picture as witness to him being in the NFL HoF despite not being inducted. For the record, I just checked my pictures to make sure I got the information correct.

Luke Kuechly retiring was crushing. He's my favorite Panther all-time. So young and watching his retirement announcement was hard to watch because it was clear he still wanted to play but knew doing so would be too dangerous.
Ryan Shazier deserves to be on this list. Paralyzed as he was reaching his prime. Scary what the Steelers would look like with him, Watt and Hayward on the field.
I feel like whenever Pat Tillman is mentioned its important to mention that he spoke out against the war adamantly, and it was after he started doing this that the "accident" occurred
It’s incredibly important. The Army covered up the cause of his death to avoid bad publicity and lied to his family. Telling them he was killed by the enemy rather than 3 close range shots to the head.
He had some major injury's in his legs. Wasn't able to keep his speed and agility.amazimgly enough, he is a hall of famer. Rushed for 2000 yards in a season. Won 2 Superbowl with the broncos and was named Superbowl MVP
Pat Tillman is a hero who the NFL should induct into the Hall of Fame. He made the ultimate sacrifice and that sacrifice should be honored, not forgotten. RIP o7
Nah not the NFL Hall of Fame. He didn't serve as Pat Tillman the NFL player, he served as Pat Tillman the American. The NFL Hall of Fame is for actions taken on the football field alone. Pat's sacrifice should forever be remembered, but it should not be commemorated in Canton.

Andrew Luck is so underrated. I feel like he never got enough credit. I'm still convinced he could of been in the "Hall of Very Good" Patrick Willis and Luke are Hall of Fame players.
Terrell Davis was one of the most dominant backs in the playoffs and one of a handful to rush for 2,000+ yards in a season. That was despite sitting out multiple quarters as Denver cruised through the league. A knee injury running down a DB on a pick ended his career too soon.
it really sucks to see a lot of these legends have to deal with all of these injuries bc of the lack of talent on their teams saving them from it or awkward injuries that were hard to recover from that changed the leagues history forever, the league would be so much different if it wasnt for the retirements of those players so soon
Another great stat about calvin johnson: In only his 2nd season of the NFL, when the lions were 0-16, with 4 DIFFERENT QBs, he had 1300 yards. Just wow. As soon as he had stafford (an above average QB) he consistently made the probowl, had 1000+ yard seasons every time, and broke the receiving yard record. Imagine what he could've done with a longer career on a better team.
Luke Kuechly and Andrew Luck will always be the biggest stories for me when it comes to retiring too soon and injuries because their careers were completely derailed by crappy situations. Andrew Luck more than Kuechly. Luke Kuechly just had bad luck and when he hit people unfortunately had a bunch of concussions. Andrew Luck just had no help and every time he got hit they put him in the dirt hard and when I heard he lacerated his kidney I knew that was the end. And he is and will be one of my favorite players ever because he was so good.
Packer fan here too. Lot of people always chirping about Emitt Smith from Dallas but, his offensive line was filled with great players. Sanders o-line was not good to put it mildly. Just sayin...
