A common symptom of the Keto Diet is bad breath and here we provide an easy and refreshing solution. It tastes very much like a spearmint tic tac, and you can store it in the pantry.
*Please note Xylitol is poisonous to animals and especially cats are attracted to peppermint, so store out of reach of pets.
Also limit to about 3 a day (3 grams). For some people, high amounts of xylitol can kick you out of ketosis, this is just meant to be a quick fix to bad breath when you can't get to your toothbrush. Also xylitol can cause diarrhoea so use sparingly.

The original recipe was adapted to achieve a more intense peppermint flavour. 1 Teaspoon achieves more of a spearmint taste, add more if you would like a stronger flavour.

Thank you so much for making this video! I have been buying commercial xylitol mints to protect my and my childrens cavity prone teeth and they are soooo expensive.
I tried your recipe with ginger oil and with cinnamon, and it works perfectly with them as well. 💕💕💕
Yayyyy!! I'm so happy you found this recipe. Thanks for the great comment ❤️❤️❤️
As someone else mentioned... silicon molds make this a lot easier, with more consistent sizes to each piece
Thanks so much Troy ❤️
you would spray those with an oil spray, right?
The comment from the gentleman about that looking like a scene out of the show, Breaking Bad, cracked me up. His thinking was exactly on cue with mine. Imagine getting pulled over by the police with a baggy full of that laying between the seats. You're going to get a lot of questions. Lol
Lol yes that's true Doug. Makes me want to watch it again. It was such a good series.
🤣🤣🤣right❤
I do miss having a breath mint every now and again. Thank you for sharing.
They're so good :)) you're welcome
Nice ! I’ve bought these at Vitamin World. Very expensive! No longer ! Thank you !
I'm glad you found a solution Deb. I love how they taste and I cam switch out the flavors too
Wow, so easy, thank you! I’m going with cinnamon/vanilla as I’m not a huge fan of mint. Xylitol was recommended for tooth and gum health. Hello from USA!
Oh wow really? I didn't know it had that health benefit. Thanks so much and I hope you enjoy it ❤️
Yes. I just made some as xylitol is amazing for dental health.
Is this a sugar substitute? Iam try to find a recipe with out sugar or the sugar substitute for a mint
Hello yes the sugar substitute is xylitol. It's the only sweetener that will work in this recipe 😊😊😊
@sourpusscandy @cookwithmel1 other extracts should work too, right? Like, say coconut?
This stuff is actually great for your teeth, just don’t eat too much or you’ll explode.. trust me…
I agree. I could only have like one a day 😊
@@Arouth249 what do you mean explode? Is this somehow bad for you?
@RevanHamzayev no...too many and it will serve as a laxative. But one or two a day i found is okay for me. Xylitol is really good for the health of your teeth too.
@RevanHamzayev xylitol is amazing all around. Great for your teeth and it’s actually a great prebiotic, but it’s also a laxative if you consume too much which is easy to do.
Another amazing, creative, delicious recipe by you... 👩🍳👩🍳👩🍳👍👍👍Great work.... 👍👍👍Keep making more videos... 🎥🎥👩🍳👩🍳🍲🍲👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much Ravi
Thank you very much the video!❤
You're welcome 😊

Hello lovely to meet you. Thank you so much for your kinds words. I will keep giving my best
Perfect timing! Thanks for the great idea and recipe and your Husband made me laugh out loud…it’s Friday night and I’m going to watch Breaking Bad and make these Breaking Bad Mints!
Lol! Don't forget to wear your mask...jokes.
Oh man he was obsessed with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman 🤣
Ha...I noticed you didn't LOL when he made the comment...anyhow.... I'm going to add some blue food coloring so tell your guy that your audience is making Blue Sky @@CookwithMel1
Lmao...I only thought of a costume afterward haha. I would go with a medical coat and mask...maybe spectacles too haha.
Blue Sky!!! I think we have to watch it yet again Scott.
Thank you. Man hubby and I laughed so much remembering how much we loved that show even quoting lines to each other 🤣
Yummy keto recipe nicely done
Thanks again
This seems to me to be a good recipe for hard candy as well. I am going to try this with a different flavoring.
Thanks Tom...I wonder what flavoring you will choose ❤❤❤
They have xylitol lollipops, I'm sure it would be easy with a mold.
Lot easier to handle than sugar, holds its viscosity longer.
My granddaughter would love these
Thanks Charlotte. I love how you can make your own flavors
Thank you for this!
You're welcome 😊
Awesome! Thank You!
You're welcome 😊
Excellent love this. Just got some xylitol and i’ll make this.
Great Angela I hope you enjoy it
I'm imagining these babies in all sorts of shapes and sizes that they make silicone moulds for. Thanks!
Oh yes the possibilities are endless. Thanks and you're welcome 😊
Greatly appreciate this!!
Oh thanks so much ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much. I will use wintergreen, because that is hard to get.
You're most welcome Ethel 😍😍😍
Nice, they do tic tac sized molds which you could use to keep a few tiny ones on you
Wow I had no idea. Thanks
tic tac molds?? yikes so teeny!
@@kristentaylor5359 lol...he jokes alot
@@kristentaylor5359 lol I do but you can get there here on lazada or shopee and that
Excellent!
Thanks Lemuel ❤️
Lol I just heard your camera man make a reference to Breaking Bad. Too funny. Youre right. I won't add blue food coloring to it either lol.
Lmao!! He finds it hard to stay out to trouble Suzanne ❤️❤️❤️
What a great solution
Thanks :)
Love these so much! Occasionally when I make them some don't crystalize like the others and stay in a clear gel-like form. Do You know what causes that?
Thanks Shelley. I found that those need to rest for longer.
I watched the resting process for some time. The sheet seemed to dry from the outside inward....so it may be that the middle part isn't quite ready when the outer part of the sheet is. Hope that helps 😊
Yes that worked, I just left them in the molds long and they crystalized, just took another day. Thank You@@CookwithMel1
@ShellyAmberLeigh yayyyyy!!! That's awesome!!
@@CookwithMel1 I figured out what I was doing wrong. I wasn’t stirring in the essential oils long enough and so the ones that weren’t hardening were actually almost pure essential oils and that’s why they weren’t hardening. This last batch came out perfectly and all of them hardened because I completed the process of stirring in the essential oils thoroughly.
Oh wow Shelly...well done!
Have another tip for you. Thinking about how your peppermint xylitol drops not only make me drool but rev me up too. At my advanced age that’s great at 5 am but not so good at 8:30 pm when the girls in the nursing home are trying to get me into bed. I’m thinking a cinnamon version may just settle me down for a long winter’s nap.
Oh feel free to change out the flavor to suit you. Oh I can see how peppermint would wake us up 😊
I love your hair! ❤️
Thanks so much ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the recipe 🤗 and 😅 at the breaking bad jokes 😂 I was wondering if we can add something to bulk it up, make it a bit ‘fluffier’ as it looks quite sharp ? Could bicarb work ? I’m looking at the ingredients of ‘spry’ peppermint mints and it has xylitol, calcium lactate, magnesium stearate, gum Arabic, peppermint oil and Canauba wax… hmm too many ingredients for me lol
I’m trying to think what makes things fizz ? Like a sherbet? Guess I’ll be searching a bit more before making this 😅
I actually haven't experimented with this recipe in that way...I would pick sherbet....and here's another question...what if we whip it after its cooked? 🤣🤣🤣
@@CookwithMel1 thanks for the fast reply 🤗 do you know what makes sherbet, as far as I know it’s always lemon / citrus flavour ? Hmm yeah maybe whipping could work, just trying to think what ingredient makes things more airy, I love a strong mint flavour but if it can be a bit more like the spry mints… without the carbs of course haha 😂
Trust me I have my thinking cap on haha...okay my other thoughts on ingredients that fluff things up...baking powder or soda...or whipping egg whites...maybe egg white powder then whip after?
Hi. I will buy the ingredients this week. You stated you need 1 tablespoon at the beginning but only used 1 teaspoon. Can you please clarify? Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Hi Suzanne. Speaking error sorry. Iys a teaspoon...Youre welcome 😊😊😊
I made them twice now. I store them in a mason jar. Yummy! I am saving a lot of money by doing this recipe vs buying the containers of xylitol mints. I'm addicted to mints. Thank you again. I might add a drop of blue food coloring next time lol
Thx for makeing these I am diabetic so I can ear stuff low carb when I am hungry cuz I get hungry all the time.😁😀😄
You're welcome and thanks for watching
Thank you so much !!!! You help me a lot !!!!!😃
You're most welcome Gladys, thanks so much for letting me know :)))
I searched for this when I realized I
was having 20 carbs...5 teaspoons of sugar a day!! eating Altoids😮
I appreciate this, but the danger for animals concerns me.
Thank you!
Thanks so much if it would solve an issue for you I would encourage you to try it. You could store in an airtight container on the top shelf of your pantry. 😊
I would use an old mint tin so that it’s safe and fits in my handbag
Oh yesss!!!
@@CookwithMel1 I’ve reused old mint tins for years, buy little mints in bulk and refill, such a great size and keeps anything fresh on the go 😊 now I’m looking for the perfect homemade mints as it gets very expensive when you look for the healthiest of ingredients plus near impossible to find.. 😅
Great Peace Queen! I truly appreciate you so much, for sharing your knowledge with us all! I want to know can I use a dehydrator on a low temperature to make them as well? Thank you so much 😊. Stay Blissful Daily 🏆🥇👑🌹✨😋...
Hello thank you and great to meet you. I would hesitate to say yes, because we see that even with slight heat the mixture turns to liquid again. But if the dehydrator is not producing heat at all maybe it could work. Thanks again and wish you well.
Aww! It’s great to meet you as well Queen! Thanks again I will try it. I will also, come back to let you know, if it works or not! Peace for now Unique One...🌿🌱🏆🥇🌹🌹🌺🌺....

@@alesiaw7048 oh good night and sleep well. Stay encouraged too!
Breaking Bad joke...good one!
Lol thanks. Everyone loves it 😊
Thanks for sharing. I am trying this now at home, using xylitol as well as etheric peppermint oil, yet the problem I encounter is when adding a few drops of peppermint oil, the oil keeps on evaporating in the liquid xylitol, even after I have let the xyilitol cool down for a while. How can I solve this? Maybe it works better with your peppermint extract than with pure etheric peppermint oil.
I have never used the peppermint oil so I'm not sure why it's evaporating. Mine is just from a regular grocery store in the baking isle. You could get some or maybe try a flavor you already have. 😊
Very nice!
Thank you :)
Thank You for sharing
You're welcome Lisa :)
@@CookwithMel1 do you know if cassava starch or tapioco starch is keto friendly?
@@lisataber9174 it is keto friendly but do shop around as the carb count differs between brands
How well does xylitol wash off? I have a silicone mold that would be ideal for making consistent sizes but I normally use it for dog treats.
Hi Linda. It washes off the same as allulose...very easily. You could soak it in hot soapy water if you want to do extra 😊
oooo I just bought some new Capella fruit drops and that would be great. I assume you can also use Allulose for this since it won't crystallize after heating, then cooling either
Hello Kristen. I believe only xylitol will work as the other sweeteners don't harden correctly. However it's your sweets right...You can make them however you like :)
@@CookwithMel1 I'd hate to waste my allulose but I'll research before trying. Thanks 🙂
@@kristentaylor5359 Good plan. You could buy the exact amount of xylitol and make it. If having these will curb a craving perhaps it's worth it :)
@@CookwithMel1 it's more like getting rid of the Keto breath than a craving
Does it matter what you grease the pan with? What oil do you use/recommend?
Hi 👋
I don't think it matters because you've got the baking paper between. Definitely don't want any type of grease touching the mixture though 😊
"It's got zero calories" showing package saying 225 cal per 100g. Maybe one mint has close to 0 cal but not xylitol in general. Thanx for recipe btw :)
Lol I meant carbs 🤣🤣
Thanks 😊
I like to use xylitol for oral hygene, does xylitol maintan its properties after exposure to high temperatures?
The stability is higher than other sugars...at 350C or 700F
Thank you🎈
You're welcome
How long do you let these cool? or set up? Mine turned out gooey underneath the opaque top.
Mine dried overnight. I don't know if climate affects it. Are they better now?
I am about to make my first batch.. thanks so much for the video.. Correction on your carbs and calories 588 calories per cup and 146 carbs. So don't eat the whole batch in one sitting😁
I hope you enjoy it, thanks. My nutrition is correct according to my brands do it's good you worked out your own. You should only need a few lol ❤️❤️❤️
What can I add so it aids clearing stuffy nose? Eucalyptus oil?
Yes, that's good :)
Perhaps Google for more options 😊
can you put them in a gummy mould?
Yes you can 😊
In your video you said to use one tablespoon of peppermint oil but on your recipe it says to use one teaspoon of peppermint oil! So what is it one teaspoon or one tablespoon of peppermint oil?
I'm sorry I made a mistake in the video. It's 1 teaspoon
@@CookwithMel1 Thank You! I am not upset I just was unsure and decided to wait before I tried to make them. Thank You again for your prompted response! Peace for you.
@mikekmalick you're most welcome. It really depends on if you want a gentle or a strong flavor.
Where can you buy xylitol in oz? Melbourne specifically - does coles/woolies sell it?
Hello, no Woolies doesn't have it. Last time I got mine off Amazon AU but also PBCo stocks it too

Wow...thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
thank you for the recipe.. Yes it did remind me of Breaking Bad lol.
You're welcome...oh my hubby up to hos tricks haha
I was thinking you could probably use some cinnamon oil or wintergreen oil also🎈
Rose, I reckon cinnamon would be a lovely flavour. I haven't tasted Wintergreen yet but it sounds good
@@CookwithMel1 When I was a little girl I used to have this candy called red hots, They were a little round red colored dots with a cinnamon flavor
@@RoseLawrence765 was it spicy, red and cinnamon like? I used to love those but I can remember what it's called

Dr.berg says that xylitol is fatal in dogs, so dont let your dogs near it. Apparently it's ok, but if you have more than 65g a day it will give you gas or diarrhea.
It is fatal to not just dogs but cats too. Lol yes but 65g is alot
How much water for 1 cup xylitol?
No water is added. The xylitol melts, then add your flavoring.
A good treat that's short and sweet.
Tank you ma'am.
So happy you enjoyed it. You're welcome 😊
@@CookwithMel1 I finally got around to making it just now. I used a strawberry flavor and a little peppermint oil, will check it tomorrow when it's cool.
Newbie question. I have only ever used xylitol as a sugar substitute, never as a mint. I made these as directed with mint extract (alcohol based) and they feel oily. Is that normal or have I gone wrong somewhere?
I'm not sure where the oily feel is coming from, especially since your extract is alcohol based. Mine were like a hard boiled mint. So sorry I couldn't help 😢
@@CookwithMel1 Thank you for the quick response. Maybe my 8x8 pan was to small for a cup of xylitol. Try and try again. We will still use it up.

can you use powdered xylitol?
Yes! My looks powdered.

Mine never became solid. Just sticky and watery. 😩
How long did you wait please? I'm wondering if the difference in weather is the problem.
@@CookwithMel1 all night. It’s the next day and it’s still sticky and soft. I put it in the freezer, but soon as I take it out and touch it it starts to melt immediately. Could it be the kind of xylitol I’m using? It’s a birch xylitol. 😩
Ok can you please let it rest another day? It dries out from the outer edges then towards the centre.
