- PlayStation Portal Remote Player releases today, letting you play PS5 games via Remote Play. Are you eagerly awaiting the arrival of PlayStation Portal? To get you set up even quicker on release day, Ash talks you through the process and explains all the new PlayStation Portal features.
Our PlayStation Portal guide explains how to set up the PS Portal, how to connect to PS5 via Remote Play and explains the interface and touchscreen functionality. Rather than a PlayStation portable, the PlayStation Portal is a streaming device - it connects to PS5 via your Wi-Fi router and uses Remote Play to stream games to its eight inch screen. Games are not installed on the PS Portal, but run on the PS5 itself - so you do need a PS5 to use it!
We’ve been able to test PlayStation Portal gameplay across a variety of games and have enjoyed responsive gameplay on the eight inch LCD screen. With the DualSense controllers attached PlayStation Portal has the same immersive haptics and adaptive triggers you’d expect from your PS5 games. The main difference is the way touchpad features are mapped to the Portal’s touchscreen, as demonstrated in Astro’s Playroom.

A lot of people asking if you can use PlayStation Portal outside of home Wi-Fi. While your home Wi-Fi network represents a great option to use PlayStation Portal because you have control over the quality of your own home Wi-Fi, it is not required. PlayStation Portal can also be played wherever you have access to broadband internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps for use. For a better play experience, a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended.

Hello, I have problems pairing my new PS Explore
with my PS Portal through PS LINK... Since 1 follow
the steps, I press the ps link button on the PS explore
charging station for 8 seconds... Then I press to the
ps link button on the PS portal to find and pair it and
NOTHING happens!
I have reset the two devices and tried turning the PS
Portal off and on as users tell me in forums that the
same thing has happened to them but it is impossible
to pair the PS Explore with my PS Portal... have
already tried the PS Explore on my PS5 with the USB
adapter and it works perfectly... And also via Bluetooth
with my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Smartphone and
they also work perfectly..
But with PS Portal it's impossible, and you've created
that PS link technology... And it doesn't pair. Aid. I have
tried to contact PlayStation experts via chat and it is
impossible and the customer service number does not
work.
Please I need a solution or know why it doesn't work..
And if it will be solved with a software update that
changes the pairing system in ps portal so that it is
more visual, and not hitting a button and waiting for it
to find and pair alone... Because if t doesn't work it's
very frustrating.

For anyone having latency or connection issues - taking the HDMI cable out of your TV that is connected to the PS5 improves performance as the PS5 is no longer processing sending a signal to your TV
And connecting your ps5 directly to your internet with Ethernet (get a extension cord if your internet is in another room it’s definitely worth it)

The button settings on the PS5 console did not take effect when playing through the PS Portal. Is it possible to add the button mapping feature through future updates?
Question... If I use my pulse 3d headset (not the fancy new one) and I have the USB plugged in to the ps5, when it is in rest mode and I am gaming on my portal, will the headset work? (A lot of conditions I know, but I think this would realistically happen)
Can I use the remote player as a separate screen while someone else is using the ps5 on the TV? I tried to set it up while my mom was watching Netflix but what I was doing interrupted and it automatically set it up as a basic remote control instead of a separate monitor to stream from. I hope that made sense

Guessing on an airplane one could still probably use it to game, so airplane mode is there as a foresight if one were to use it for that situation but needs that feature in order to comply with the rules of electronic devices on planes

Was wondering the same thing. When I'm on a plane, chances are that I won't be able to connect the PS Portal to the same WIFI my PS5 at home is using. Really doesn't make sense to me.

As you can see demand is higher than it’s ever been for an actual dedicated hand held and I hope by a shred of a chance if you guys are reading any comments you are taking that into consideration! You’re leaving hundreds of millions of dollars on the table. Listen to your customers. 🙌
This product won't challenge the Nintendo Switch. I think it's a test bed for their future dedicated handheld gaming device

I had a blast with mine ... i played COD MW3 & Battlefield 2042 with no lag 20 to 30 kills a round ( not great but not bad ) ... " Set your ps5 at 1080p and cut off hdr , vrr , and turn off 120hrzt after that everything is gucci after that 💯. Many are getting lags because your ps5 settings don't match your portal.
This is not true and Sony would tell you to do this if so. It defaults to 1080p/60hz the portal itself when used.
Just got mine and it's absolutely lovely! Getting to experience Astro's playroom all over again and Spider-man 2 is awesome in handheld!
Hey, I was thinking about getting one myself, but it seems like remote play doesn't work well for me on local play so I'm trying to get that sorted out before I get a PS Portal to make sure it'll actually work well for me 😅

@@mydogeatspuke traditionally for decades CONSOLES and HANDHELDS were SEPERATE. Its Sony which Pioneered REMOTE PLAY where you could play CONSOLE GAMES on your HANDHELD like it did with PS3-PSP.
You COULDN’T do it EVER before. Not ONE Nintendo console-handheld had remote play option. Could you play your SNES games on GBA? GameCube on DS? Wii on 3DS? obviously NOT.
But you COULD play WiiU console games on the WiiU TABLET via REMOTE PLAY. Which is pioneered by WHOM? SONY with PS3-PSP. Dumbass.
So I can't use it on another network after setting it up. Shall we say I finished setting it up at home and linked it with my ps5 but then I want to go to another city but just use the remote player, I can't do that because it has to be on the same network as the ps5?

So explain to me after 5 - 10 mins of playing my portal disconnects from my ps5. It gets annoying but it’s a quick reconnect… Is there away to prevent this?

I just got my PlayStation Portal and I'm impressed! I have several handhelds (6 in total) from various manufacturers including the Playstation Vita. Love the ergos, feels great in the hand and the size of the screen is perfect. This will be my preferred device for the foreseeable future. Do you have any plans in the future for streaming games on the Portal? This seems to be the only thing missing from a perfect device.

I have pretty good internet speed and I have no problems with lag or stuttering. It works pretty well for me. It sucks my experience isn’t what everyone else is getting.

Looking to get a PS Portal too here but remote play doesn't work well for me locally (even when not connected to the internet at all) so I wanted to make sure that's sorted out before I get one

The reason why the portal is for me is the same reason why I play with my Nintendo Switch mostly on handheld mode. And yes, I rarely take my devices outside anyway. I just want to game while my wife can watch her dramas.
This definitely would be awesome to have just so I don't need to lug my PS5 upstairs over and over again to my bedroom. Witcher 3 and FF 7 Intergrade are gonna be the first games I try out.

How is the video quality for you all on the PS Portal screen? I've found ONE video that talks about image degredation due to streaming. But I don't know if I trust the guy because I haven't seen that opinion universally. And while the guy has 5.6 mil subs, that doesn't give him automatic authority.
Could anyone assist me? I'm encountering an issue with remote play on my PlayStation portal. It functions flawlessly on my laptop while connected to my work Wi-Fi, but it's not working on my PS Portal device. When both the PS5 and Portal devices are on the same home network, remote play functions without any problems. However, I'm eager to use it during my breaks at work, and it's proving to be a challenge. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! I just got my Portal and I’m trying to get it setup but I’m running into an odd problem. I can connect to the WiFi Network, but it doesn’t have an internet connection. Every other device works just fine on the WiFi, but the Portal says WiFi is connected but not internet connection.

@@edwinhurt7171 It works now. Had to disable the 2.4GHz wlan in my router settings and using only the 5GHz now and it works flawlessly. Maybe it helps you as well

Very important question here, if you want to take the remote player with you out of the house and use it with your own wireless hotspot. Does your PS5 need to be on before you can play games or can the remote player turn on the PS5? I read someone's review on Amazon and he says he calls his wife and tells her to turn the PS5 on then he plays his games at work. I want to make sure I don't need to have someone turn on my PS5 to use the remote player when I take it out with me.

I’ve been wanting one of these since it released but I was put off because I was worried about he input lag. I’ve been using my switch but I just can’t get used to the form factor and find it uncomfortable and fiddly to use. I’ve finally given in and bought a PS Portal and I’m so pleased I did. This is just perfect. PlayStation has always had the best controllers for me personally and this is a joy to use 🙏🎮
Yo I can’t find a straight answer on this, can I connect to my PlayStation on a different WiFi? My ps5 is home in Nc and I’m going to school in Florida, would really rather not have my ps5 in dorm room but this would be perfect to let me use it and not risk such a expensive item being stolen
@@huntersmith2844 it does work on a different Wi-Fi but you will experience a few more milliseconds of input lag

Yep, you can, but keep in mind you need to have a decent WiFi connection and that the experience when playing with the Portal via the internet (not on the same network) isn't really flawless even with the best internet speeds

Wondering if someone can help me here. I was sunder the impression I could switch on my PS5 with the device while at another location. It seems I have to be beside my PS5 switch it on and the only way I can use the portal is if I use my controller to manually sign into my account with my controller only then will my portal connect. Is this the way it works?? So if I was to use at another location I would have to turn on ps5 and manually log in and then leave the house while it is signed in??
No, this is not how it works. The Portal connects to the PS5 and turns it on remotely. You login to your account on the Portal, not on PS5. You do need to setup the PS5 so it can be used with a remote connection, as shown in the video.
