I have a 96 dodge ram 2500 . I took it to a local garage......they put new heads on it.....2500 dollars........ but it didn't need heads.... I think it just needs rings..... I'm going to get my friend to help me change them. My advice to your viewers is find a good mechanic. Like these guys making the video..... Thanks for the video.
My LA 318 cylinders looked good too when I pulled the heads. But I was worried about the #4 cylinder compression reading (and the plug was oily),so I pulled it all apart (still in the engine bay), flex honed, re-ringed, new bearings etc... The oil could've just been that the old umbrella valve seals were brittle and junk? Not to mention that timing gear plastic was in the oil pan and pickup...lol. I did a total rebuild and never pulled the engine...lol. I'm a glutton for punishment...lol
1996 ram has 198k is that mean mine is done . My freeze plug is leaking butvshe is reel strong.did the plenum fix and gutted vthe catv and added flowmasters cold air intake and she starts in one rotation everytime show no nsigns of getting tired
Is it economics why a cheap as possible build? Seems like a great motor to balance the rotating assembly, install nice pistons, and just build it as a keeper.
the general idea was to have something cheap to romp on while the 440 was being built. The 360 wasn't part of the budget, but the truck itself was on a budget
Looks like the later 1 piece 5.9 mag to me, but I'm going with the professional balancer that has the weights that bolt on for any small block so I can use the V-belt pulleys with the LA front.
@@peteanderson9724 Thanks for the kind words and subscribing. Without finding the card, it was something like .494/.501 lift with 1.5 rockers (we're using 1.6 mag rockers), 218/226 @ 050, 110 LSA . If that's not actual, it's really close on lift/duration.

yep, a trustworthy mechanic is priceless!
Its always interesting to see your latest schemes regarding the Mighty Mopar, keep em coming!
The hughes intake manifold is a smart way to go too
Why would you not use the factory fuel injection? You can make a ton of power just off computer tuning with minimal parts changes.
Thanks for watching ! Nothing against FI, but we wanted a carb.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!

Are the Magnum motors strong
yes
Im just wondering if a older 727 small block trans will bolt up to a 1996 5.9 engine.
yep, it will.
She should run some good E.T's
Cool my truck I have now is a 2000 176k mile dodge ram Laramie slt longbed quad cab 1500 5.2 litre 318 magnum V8 46RE AT 4X4
I swear it looks like a 318 harmonic balancer on this engine

Man those cylinders look great. Doing a similar build. Which Oregon grind number are you going with? Will be interested following. Thanks.
Cam grind 1634
@@318willrun Do you know the specs? Love your vids.. new subsriber!

Cool video is he doing more now to the 360 than originally planned to get alot more power out of it?
I'm not sure what his plan is and for what motor.
What did you get the 440 out of trans has timing hole in bell housing. Do you have a link for the cam place you mentioned on the 5.9?
motor/trans came out of a motor home. Oregon cam grinders, hyd roller 1634 i believe is the grind number
