Okay, I don't know everything, but I know that design of tank was origionally called a "Grant"-from WWII photos/listings. Also the Grant's side cannon wasn't nearly as long as is the one on your model (don't they elevate/rotate?)!! Tamia/Tamya(sp?) was my favorite WWII model company!! They ('69-'73) when I bought them, some were even motorized, and actually wish I still had them!! Have fun, sincerely Randy.
Another fantastic Model for sure. You are a true craftsman. Now, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or make someone angry, but I enjoyed this video the best, simply because there was no music. None at all and I was a very happy modeler wanna be. LOL! Anyway, thank you again for a terrific tutorial video on a really neat tank. I'm going to have to get this particular type of tank, hopefully in my go to company of Tamiya. Nothin' against Academy, I just prefer Tamiya.
Great video Andy, I m currently going through my first academy model, an m 18 Hellcat, looks quite nice, and something different to offer other than Tamiya, and thanks for recommending the Vallejo putty, that will come in very useful in future builds
Hey Andy are you going to start to carry Mission Model paints and other items from them? Great Job on the weathering of the Lee. I liked how you explained the washes.
Even with 40 years of modeling experience, i am still able to learn something from Andy: Cleaning up small parts after they are attached. And that Vallejo Acrylic Putty is very handy!
what a great build Andy !!!! The weathering is superb...would you recommend the Vallejo putty to do Zimmerit?...have a great Xmas and all the best in the New Year to you n all the viewers.
No #57 Buff on that model ? ^^ Just kidding... :p Nice video, as always. Thank you ! if only you coul build the Meng AMX-30B as I'm planning to do it, it should be a strong help for me. Greetings from France and Merry Christmas !
Andy's Hobby Headquarters good morning. I was entranced by his video. I ask that uses glue and if you can send me the link to buy it? thanks again and inscribed immediately.
Andy, great video been watching from the beginning, you r getting better and better. I did one after watching the movie Sahara with Bogart, ha be a pic on my phone and would like to send you a picture, but where?
I remember making one of these.... I did paint some of the wheels before I took them off of the tree.... But mine didn't look nearly as good as this. Only thing I did which I've yet to see others do... is "smoke" certain parts (with a lighter) to give some things a burnt look. Mostly did that with Planes or Jets
The end result, as usual, looks really good. One thing I noticed though, when you started the "wash" it really wasn't a wash/panel liner to make the details pop, you applied and blended it more like a filter.
Dear Andy! This is one of yours best videos I like it so much. I am a big fan of yours from EU/Hungary. I would like to build up this kit but please tell me where to buy this great "Demon decal ? The original kit does not include it. Thank you!
Outstanding painting and weathering on another great build Andy. thanks for all the videos and tips throughout the year, love your channel. keep up the good work , Merry Christmas :)
That looks really great Andy, well done my friend. I hope that you have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, Happy Yuletide, Happy Hanukkah or whatever makes you most happy and fulfilled. Sending warm wishes to you and your family during this Christmas Season. May your home be blessed with love and happiness (and maybe a few nice presents too). Many thanks for all of the fantastic videos this year, they have been so interesting, helpful and also entertaining too. Many Thanks and have fun Andy, Joe
This model did not have a complete interior including shells, radio box, seats, etc...? I built an Academy M3 Lee a few years back and it came with all those items. I did screw up the mounting of the main cannon. While it turns freely, the elevation is too free and it will not stay in one place. Also, as to if you were also known as a person by the name of T.J., I saw your answer, but I had to ask since I have not seen anything from him for a while.
Classic tank, pity about the box notice that he does not show you opening the box? I have the same tank, same scale alternative manuf yet nearly half the cardboard Still l suppise Academy need to make the box feel worth the amount my side of the pound
I seem to remember that when the Lee and Grant kits first came out Academy got the suspension units wrong and then they came out with correct sprues to fix this issue.. I still have both kits in the stash..
He's not priming, just adding a pre-shade (black) and some hilights (white). When you paint over this it adds some variation (weathering) to the base coat of olive drab. Not necessary though, you can prime and then base coat with the olive drab.
I was just curious I thought the return rollers and the ider wheel were all metal and the roadwheels are the only thing that were rubber can you see if I'm correct
hey Andy really enjoy watching you build all these models, I can tell you do a lot to make the videos really helpful, has anyone asked you to list the paints you use on a model, as some of the really weathered ones, you use paints, washes, dust, dull coat, hair spray, and that stuff for the decals, etc. and for the modelers that are inexperienced a list would be very helpful.
Andy your videos are truly fun, and very entertaining model build videos. The best actually most informative Thank you for your videos Cool stuff my friend !!!! Love US Armor , early N Africa Campaign . Andy you the Man!!!
Maybe you don't have to glue those suspensions, just glue all the three set of wheels to the body, and the suspension will automatically adjust and align horizontally.
Merry X'mas Andy and u guys :) Saw your black and white method. Does it only work while spray painting or can you use that method with hand painting with a brush too? Thanks
Used to have alot of issues with Academy kits back in the day. Probably the worst Academy kit I've ever done was the Tiger I w/interior before I knew about the wrong things like the cupola. This build looks nice though, great job and enjoyed watching.
Anyone thinking the M3 Lee looks very funky? 😁 it looks pretty bad but at the same time good 😋 By the way the M3 was a total disaster in real life. Almost no gun depression so it could not get into hull-down positions. The armour was bolted so when the tank was hit the armour could just fall off. Great build Andy! Keep it up!
Andy, how does the Academy M3 Lee compare to the Takom M3 Lee? They look just as each other. I like way the Mission Model looked after you spraying them on. Thanks also Andy for the warning of the springs. To remember 2 dry fit every part and check out the the instructions. 😭🕊
Like that Academy is producing some nice kits, always good to have another choice of manufacturer. M3 Lee/Grant has some crazy angles, good to see Academy pull it off so well. Liked the build and painting/weathering, nice to see bit of a 'grungy' finish - looks great. Awesome video as always!
i really love this channel, i learned a lot how to paint, masking, washing etc from your channel, great! i love military model kit especially tank. Andy could you please someday make your shop tour video? :) thank you
I have just finished the Academy Hummer in 1:35. Wow. You need the training, patience and tools of a micro surgeon for this one. Some of the parts are the size of a hydrogen atom. And a lot of the parts dont even fit into each other. Doing a Tamiya Tiger next, for the size!
Bought this kit. This kit would make an outstanding technology demonstrator on how to produce flashing. It reminds me of the Revel kits from back in the day. I'm spending more time cleaning up and trimming the parts than I am in assembling them.
very nice model mind you I enjoy all your videos I'm currently building this kit but converting it into a British Army version in Burma. keep the bids coming cheers Andy.
should have done the interior as most modellers will do and would have loved to see it done....so sorry to criticise but i have this kit and wanted to see how you had done it but no luck....still love the channel but i needed to see the interior from you rather than other channels........ :(
I tend to avoid Academy these days as the instructions are ambiguous and a lot of the parts don't even fit together. Their Humvee was a nightmare to make.
I'm new to your channel and the RUclips modeling world . I Love your work and at 61 years old you and the other RUclipsrs have got me building models again . Thank you and Merry Christmas from the great state of Ohio .
Thank you for calling them de-cals.
'Deckles' makes my skin crawl (Australia).
BC3012 ikr
They're deck-als in Canada; where else do they say it that way?
They were called “waterslide transfers” when I was a teenager in England in the 1970s.
@@carmium
I remember that !!!!
Lol
I still find myself saying "dekals"....in the land of decals ......or my fav is , I use dry transfers now
Lol
if anyone calls them stickers im personally gonna burn all my models

Hey Andy if u do requests could u do an m18 hellcat plez

I have the same Academy model. I thought the interior was pretty cool, but that's just me.
Hey Andy are you going to start to carry Mission Model paints and other items from them? Great Job on the weathering of the Lee. I liked how you explained the washes.
Andy how about M41A1 Walker Bulldog or some T54?)
Even with 40 years of modeling experience, i am still able to learn something from Andy: Cleaning up small parts after they are attached. And that Vallejo Acrylic Putty is very handy!

great tank love the vids but were's the music?
I love the M3 Lee. It was featured in the 1943 movie "Sahara" with Humphrey Bogart.
mr.modern44 " I'm riding this tank into Berlin "
mr.modern44 also in the movie 1941
play world of tanks, it'll make you hate the m3 lee forever
also i know this comment is a year old
Yes the tank' s name is " lulubelle " 👍
Man, that looks really awesome! I still need to try an Academy tank model. Happy Holidays!
Happy holidays thank you for watching
Andy's Hobby Headquarters good morning. I was entranced by his video. I ask that uses glue and if you can send me the link to buy it?

Really enjoyed your video, as a beginner I really appreciate the extra detail you go into :)
Thank you.
Always so informative, really has helped awaken my interest in 1/35 scale after quite a gap and get me get back into modelling.
Thanks Andy.
excellent video Andy, i learn a lot by watching your videos. I really like this tank, have to look for one
Really love American ww2 tank models
Dear Andy! This is one of yours best videos I like it so much. I am a big fan of yours from EU/Hungary. I would like to build up this kit but please tell me where to buy this great "Demon decal ? The original kit does not include it. Thank you!
Great video
Outstanding painting and weathering on another great build Andy. thanks for all the videos and tips throughout the year, love your channel. keep up the good work , Merry Christmas :)
Thank you Robert
your painting and weathering skills keep getting better and better with each new model Andy!! awesome stuff man!! love these videos
Thank you for watching , I appreciate the kind words
That looks really great Andy, well done my friend.

What's the purpose of a black base coat, then foggy in white patches, then you paint the dark green???????
Nice looking M3 Lee. The weathering job is superb. I learn alot from this channel. Merry Christmas Andy!
Merry Christmas , thank you for watching
Andy's Hobby Headquarters question the 1/35th scale stars would they fit on the front of a 1/35th scale Abrams turret?
Classic tank, pity about the box notice that he does not show you opening the box? I have the same tank, same scale alternative manuf yet nearly half the cardboard Still l suppise Academy need to make the box feel worth the amount my side of the pound
I seem to remember that when the Lee and Grant kits first came out Academy got the suspension units wrong and then they came out with correct sprues to fix this issue.. I still have both kits in the stash..
Great job !! Probably , thanks to the movie Sahara . The most famous US. Tank .
Hey Andy!
Do you think you can build a T-14 Armata?
Yes yes yes...Andy please, build Armata :)
maybe in january I have a few other projects ahead of it
Andy's Hobby Headquarters looking forward to it!
andy is it necessary to put a coat i mean cant i just paint the model straight away with the suggested colors?
I agree, however an undercoat is advised as it will allow the paint to adhere better to the plastic
The undercoat/primer also shows up any flaws which can be addressed before the base coat is applied.
He's not priming, just adding a pre-shade (black) and some hilights (white). When you paint over this it adds some variation (weathering) to the base coat of olive drab. Not necessary though, you can prime and then base coat with the olive drab.
Good job I feel like getting this one day
I was just curious I thought the return rollers and the ider wheel were all metal and the roadwheels are the only thing that were rubber can you see if I'm correct
Thank you for doing the Lee, I have this in the stash but the multipart upper hull has been pit me off.
Thank you hope you have a great holiday season.
You should consider doing the Trumpeter 1/35 Stryker next! It's a pretty tough but fun kit that I've been tackling for the past month!
hey Andy really enjoy watching you build all these models, I can tell you do a lot to make the videos really helpful, has anyone asked you to list the paints you use on a model, as some of the really weathered ones, you use paints, washes, dust, dull coat, hair spray, and that stuff for the decals, etc. and for the modelers that are inexperienced a list would be very helpful.
i will try to remember to start doing this for you guys
Another great build! Merry Christmas Andy! Is there a link for Mission Model Paints?
Thank you hope you have a great holiday season. I don't know of one yet but I'll be doing another video about there paint and I'll try to find one.
Andy's little problem is my huge headache lol
I just made a tamiya m4a3 Sherman 75mm gun
Andy your videos are truly fun, and very entertaining model build videos. The best actually most informative
Thank you for your videos
Cool stuff my friend !!!!
Love US Armor , early N Africa Campaign .
Andy you the Man!!!
Maybe you don't have to glue those suspensions, just glue all the three set of wheels to the body, and the suspension will automatically adjust and align horizontally.
This accademy I don't like at all it looks weird against tamyia
again really nice work. But I question, do you no problem with paint dust in your shop with the airbrush?
Merry X'mas Andy and u guys :) Saw your black and white method. Does it only work while spray painting or can you use that method with hand painting with a brush too? Thanks
Merry Christmas the black and white works with airbrushing because you have to put a really light coat so not to cover it up
Which Super glue is the best? Brush, or Nozzle?
Used to have alot of issues with Academy kits back in the day. Probably the worst Academy kit I've ever done was the Tiger I w/interior before I knew about the wrong things like the cupola. This build looks nice though, great job and enjoyed watching.
Anyone thinking the M3 Lee looks very funky? 😁 it looks pretty bad but at the same time good 😋

What no classical music as Andy works on the kit this time, whats going on man? Great work as always though, another very entertaining build video!
2:30 yea im having a bitch of a time with those springs too, I may have to sand them down.
very nice and alot of good information..thanks Andy. and Merry Christmas
Hey cool. That's an interesting tank for sure. Any chance of you doing some of those 1/35 8 wheel trucks and trailers from dragon etc?
I'm presently building a 1/72 M3 Lee, so this video gave me a lot of useful tips.
Definitely prefer your videos without the background music which is always too loud so I have to turn the sound down then back up to hear you.
Wrong part on step 1 is A9 and correct is E41
Anyone know wut sort of streaking rust he uses?
Very interesting build! Well done! Do you find the Academy decals bad to work with?
Happy Holidays!
Thanks Andy for all your videos from 2016! Happy holidays to you and yours!
What about the star on the right side of the turret?
where did you get the M3 LEE tank
Handy to know about the short spring I got this kit today along with the Scammel pioneer and trailer and T34
Beautiful shop. Enjoy watching and always learning.
What kind of compressor/paintbrush do you use?
should have done the interior as most modellers will do and would have loved to see it done....so sorry to criticise but i have this kit and wanted to see how you had done it but no luck....still love the channel but i needed to see the interior from you rather than other channels........ :(
Any figures? How did they callome out?
I have a Revell M4A1 Calliope coming in the mail, any tips?
Andy, will you continue using Tamiya paints on later models?
I am addicted to your vids)) You are a true professional and i love your tips) Thanks so much and greetings from London)
Does the thinning have an affect on the luster of the gloss paints?
Great build and very enjoyable to watch as always, Andy. Have a great Christmas and New Year.
I use Testors faded olive drab
That looks great. What air brush and compressor do you use?
I like it
you are so good at this you have certain skills I could only dream of.
Andy did you address the two ejector pin marks on the rear plate?
I'm really getting into tank models but I don't know all the good brands to trust
What tipe of glue you yose
What pigment do u use to make the mud?? great job...loved it.
Great video. Just didn't show the interior, which, I feel, is the highlight of this kit.
This is my 2nd favourite tank but tiger 1 is still the best
in your opinion andy, do academy make good 1/35 model kits?
Hello yes they are very easy to assemble and build up very nice,
iv used washes before but never in this way ill have to try it on my next build.
Wow looks great. Never heard of this tank before
hello, please, explain how the tracks are placed, thanks
Good error pick up
I tend to avoid Academy these days as the instructions are ambiguous and a lot of the parts don't even fit together. Their Humvee was a nightmare to make.
john adams I really liked all the academy models ive built so far, every manufacturer has some bad kits, old moulds etc. Sometimes youre just unlucky
OK thanks.
