Starting With MUD And CHIPPING? | T29E3 Weathering

  • My friends, tonight's goal is to finish the lower hull on this model. But why should we start like this? Turns out, a finished lower hull including tracks and wheels sets the tone for the rest of the model, and thus it's easier for us to imagine how the rest of the tank should look like. In the end it can be more time efficient and most importantly, lead to better results!

I wanted to give you a big THANK YOU, a LOT, for this new content and quality of your new video.
I particularly enjoy weathering steps when I do scale modeling, your tips and advices are “just” there, very helpful. I say “just” because the video are less than 20min, fluent, fun and with great sound + video quality, but I know how muuuuuuuch time it is to make a 20min videos, so big up.
One suggestion regarding your video content is: what do you think on making a video on the huge scope of varnishing? It’s one of the most discussed but not clearer topic regarding steps. When to apply varnish coats, like before/after, color variation impacts, filters/washes/painting steps/chipping liquid, etc. It could be a huge and interesting topic to share on (even if of course, there is a tone of techniques). Maybe I missed some advices on your videos and it’s already exist 😅

I just want to point out quick. Having multiple different layers of different dry and wet muds is extremely realistic especially for dioramas with one or two crew members out of the tank.
"Hurry up and wait" is a military constant. You will be stopped long enough to watch your 12t vehicle start to dry off.

Sterling work, as usual, Martin. Even your experimental "failures" are usually stunning.
This particular tank has some hydraulic pistons in its suspension. There should be a bare (clean) area at the upper part of the inside cylinder. Compression of the unit would cause the upper cylinder to constantly wipe the inner cylinder clean over the range of travel. In actual use, there might be a portion (lower on the inner cylinder) that is just not as dirty as the rest, and then an upper portion that is clean or nearly so, to simulate different ranges of travel at different times, with the longer range of travel happening earlier, followed by lesser travel later. I have seen this on actual armored vehicles in the field.
More work, I know. But artists must suffer for their art.
