Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie!!! -Christmas eve -Christmas party -Christmas tree -Christmas rap -Christmas presents -and of course cocaine!!
@@SeraphsWitness Eh, maybe, but in Die Hard the whole movie is set at that time with those tones. Harry Potter only ever has a few scenes set at Christmas time. It's a bit more of a stretch than Die Hard or Gremlins.
"Die hard". First used in 1811 in the peninsula war. During the battle of Albuera Lieutenant-Colonel inglis was wounded by canister shot. Despite his injuries, Inglis refused to retire from the battle but remained with the regimental colours, encouraging his men with the words "Die hard 57th, die hard!" as they came under intense pressure from a French attack. The 'Die Hards' subsequently became the West Middlesex’s regimental nickname."
I thought the screen writer couldn't think of a movie name until he looked under the hood of his car and saw a Die Hard battery. That battery company should sue.
That sounds incredibly implausible - derivations from unverifiable utterances are very rare indeed, not least because the originator cited in Wikipedia from which you lifted this is an undistinguished officer carrying a workaday injury in a humdrum battle. Besides, these sentimental gleanings tend to be more frequently derived from American military folk tales, eg 54 40 or fight (yuk). The older phrase is "old habits die hard": almost literally, it is difficult to give up an ingrained habit held for a long time. Here's a better citation. According to Gregory Titleman's America's Popular Proverbs and Sayings, this expression has been traced back to 1450, but it does provide references to this earlier use and we were unable to find any verification online. The first known citation in the USA is in an article by Benjamin Franklin printed in London Chronicle in December 1758. The noun die-hard, meaning a person who vigorously resists changes, is extrapolated from this proverb.
I love watching the evolution of these two characters. If you watch an early episode and then a recent one, you can see the difference in enthusiasm. Seriously awesome to see the development here.
I also think that in the current ones he goes a bit more in depth. For example, if it was done today he would likely question that Al as a desk jockey has a marked police car for driving to and from work, or that he says he hasn't been able to fire his gun in years but LAPD requires firearm qualification every 6 months.
I think the difference is just that ryan is more comfortable on camera now and his comedy/acting skills have naturally gotten better along with his charisma

In reference to the "Now I have a machine gun" bit, it's one of the really odd changes they made from the book. In the book it's,"Now *we* have a machinegun" because McClaine was trying to make Hans think there was more than one guy in the building roaming around.
Interesting, but unless we see John talking this over with himself in one of his classic talks-to-himself scenes, I don't think it would be very apparent why the message would read "we" and audiences would just be confused. If we do see him explaining it to himself for the benefit of an audience, it would lose its impact when we first see the message simultaneous to Hans reading it. When adapting any piece of work, always do what's best for the new medium.

“We are closing the government for Christmas Holidays. Please feel free to poop on cop cars and murder and loot to your hearts content. All foreign invaders need not sign in.” That’s how you can tell which agencies should actually be part of “The Government,” and who are excess bureaucrats.
Teachers, power plant workers, and vehicle registration employees are contracted by local governments and are not direct government officials. Just to head off the political cat fights.
The US government does have a history of letting that happen to fortified embassies and capital buildings. Yet they always manage to protect the IRS and the oil. Priorities.

0:55 - John doesn't want to just leave his wife behind.
1:09 - Argyle didn't know about the terrorist attack until much later.
2:30 - By firing his gun he would risk revealing his position to the terrorists. Throwing a body doesn't really make much sound from the position he throws it.
Hi Ryan
Love your pitch meetings!
Would be awesome if you would make one with A Good Day to Die Hard 😄
i am re-watching pitch meetings. I think I finished them all and a pitch meeting weekly is not enough to satisfy the craving...
RUclips constantly suggests pitch meetings I've already seen multiple times. I constantly click through to watch them again. No, this isn't a complaint.
I love your channel keep up the great stuff!!!
I have decided that i never need to watch another movie these pitch meeting sum it up to well.
I love this movie, it's practically perfect, apart from all those things you mentioned...
“What kind of company has their Christmas party on Christmas Eve?”
Most government jobs. But yeah, weird for private sector
Trevor Fultz none of my government jobs have
Prisons and hospitals?
“We are closing the government for Christmas Holidays. Please feel free to poop on cop cars and murder and loot to your hearts content. All foreign invaders need not sign in.” That’s how you can tell which agencies should actually be part of “The Government,” and who are excess bureaucrats.
Teachers, power plant workers, and vehicle registration employees are contracted by local governments and are not direct government officials. Just to head off the political cat fights.
The US government does have a history of letting that happen to fortified embassies and capital buildings. Yet they always manage to protect the IRS and the oil. Priorities.
Why anyone press dislike button though? This series is so good.
ONCE AGAIN - Just brilliant!
I expected this one to just be "super easy, barely an inconvenience" over and over.
"Die Hard?!, naming movies after car batteries is Tight!!"
Yea, we WERE gonna go with Megatron but, ya know, Transformers, LOL
That's nothing. In Poland they didn't know how to translate "Die Hard", so they went with "Glass Trap". It was all OK, until sequels came and there wasn't any glass but the title stayed...
@@Robi2009 wait they went with Glass trap? I don't why but I find that hilarious. Did they just watch the first hlf hour or so and go, Hey he's trapped and there's glass. we gotta get going so Glass Trap it is.
@@memyself898 yup, really. Polish title is "Szklana pułapka", which means "Glass trap". TBH, diehard is difficult to translate, but they could've think of something better. I remember when in high school during English class we had charades, when you had to show the title of a movie to the class. I got "Die hard" and asked the teacher can I show Polish one, she said no and my classmate immediately guessed the correct movie just because it is so hard to show the original one :)
That Bruce Willis is now actually advertising those batteries in a parody of this movie is the very definition of America.
please make into the spiderverse like for that pitch meeting
Ikjones04 I agree!
I love it when he does really good movies. Like you love it even more. Into to the spiderverse is Fantastic film. It would be amazing to see it "pitched"
They have now
Recently saw Die Hard for the first time. Loved it. This. Was. Hilarious. Thank you, Merry Christmas, and never stop Pitch Meetinging!
This guy is hilarious, I absolutely love these "pitch meetings"
The best Xmas film
*Iron man 3*
If Die Hard is a Christmas movie, so is Eyes Wide Shut. Is that the kind of world you want to live in?
Jared Wales i was joking
"Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie, it's a God damn Bruce Willis movie."-Bruce Willis.
Do a Pirates of the Caribbean pitch meeting, please !
