    Despite the sale of Chrysler, it looks like Daimler Benz still has a minority stake/ collaberation with Hyundai/Kia. Looks like an upscaled version of the i30/ceed/elantra gt/ forte. With the enormous cost of emissions and safety engineering, and different standards between europe, asia , north america, platform sharing is with us.

    Now people who don't like Mercedes to talk about Mercedes using the engine of Renault, that's the engine that develops by Renault and the Mercedes, also the BMW has developed a motor from the Peugeot. Since Reanult and Nissan are the same group, Nissan took a Mercedes engine for his premium models. It's the autoindustry today selling each other's parts and still the concurents to the market

It is a compact engine family of 1.4-1.6 L in displacement and includes most modern features including gasoline direct injection, turbocharging, BMW VANOS and variable valve timing. The BMW variants of the Prince engine are known as the N12, N13, N14, N16 and N18. It replaced the Tritec engine family in the Miniand was first introduced in 2006 for MINI. I have had three Mercs. All company cars and well specced . Every one of them had reliability issues and all had rattles that were never sorted. Never had these issues with the Audi’s I had .Never had these issues with my Golf Gti s either ! Nor with the two Fiat 500s we have in the family. So bit of an issue for me when I see Rebecca able to bend part of the dash . I will wait for the new Golf VIII out next year .

    • @jacobthompson8507
      @jacobthompson8507 5 лет назад +4

      I totally agree. I've always had Audi's, and their interior quality is also far superior than Mercedes. Had an E Class courtesy car when I had an accident with in my Q5, and the interior quality on the 17 plate Merc wasn't as good as my 64 plate Q5.

    • @veemacks7255
      @veemacks7255 5 лет назад +16

      I'm on my fifth Merc and had zero reliability issues (or rattles). As for Golf's, my girlfriend is on her second one (a Golf IV and a Golf VI) and had half a dozen issues with both of them and said she wouldn't go near another VW product again. These individual anecdotes are worthless though. Mine, yours, and hers.

      @user-pk2do5lq7t 5 лет назад +1

      Maybe you are the one that you think that Audi, Fiat or VW have reliability than Mercedes. All my friends have exactly different experience. Not to mention that the TSI engines of VW & Audi they need all the time to suplement with oil. One more thing, if Merc have developed these small new engines with Nissan/Renault they will be excellent. Here in Greece we say especially for Nissan engines that they are so good that they need only water and and a little supplamentary oil.

  • @rockymountainman7
    @rockymountainman7 4 года назад +7

    I had the pleasure to try one out... I drove the "loaded to the max" A180 AMG version for two weeks and just short of 2000 km. My verdict: If you want one real bad, stick to the basic version. The car i was driving had the lane keep assist which was interfering a lot. Every time i get close to a line it would shake the steering wheel. Getting closer to the line would result in one sided braking trying to force the car back in its lane. This is a potential deadly move because if roads are icy as the roads where i live this morning you will lose control!!! The eyesight feature kept seeing things in its path that were not there! The car made two very harsh emergency stops both times for absolutely no reason what so ever! We were lucky there was nobody behind us at the time that happened! GETTING THE CAR WITH ALL THE FEATURES THAT ARE MENT TO KEEP YOU SAFE MAY JUST DO THE OPPOSITE!!! I FOUND WHEN DRIVING THIS CAR YOU BETTER BE AWAKE AND HAVE BOTH HANDS AT THE WHEEL AT ALL TIMES!!! Another annoying feature this car has is a big coffee cup showing up on the dash all the time telling me to take a break after just a hour of driving blocking out information...

      @@stephaniefogg4088 It is a beautiful car Stephanie. The so called "safety features" however took all the fun out of it to the point that i never knew what this vehicle was going to do next! The "safety features" turned out to be a gigantic pain in the ass and in certain situations could potentially get someone killed! That is why i say to stick to a more basic version of this car. You are going to be much happier with it.

    Why do people still knock Mercedes for using Renault diesel engines?
    They are now not Renault diesel engines. They are now Mercedes diesel engines developed along with Renault.
    If you try to peel off the Mercedes Benz badge on an engine, you're not going to find Renault underneath it.
    The one point of this new Mercedes Benz "infotainment" system that was never spoken about, is just how good and modern it is. It's so new, it's not even in the current range of Mercedes "S" Class cars. And What Car? didn't even broach that subject. Surprising that is... :-\...
    Driver, "Hey! Mercedes."
    Car, "What can I do for you?"
    Driver, "Are your engines Renault engines?"
    Car comes to a sudden stop, hazard lights on and engine turns off.
    Car, "F*** off and get out!"

    So we end up with a rather boring looking very expensive hatchback with disapointing base engines and an interior that looks like they 've asked Fiat to do the job?
    If you need the badge, go for an audi A3, if you want great build quality for the best money, there is a VW Golf and if you want to be diffrent, how about a Honda Civic? I think this Merc can nowhere be as good as these 3 cars are in their niches.

Also I don’t know why all Merc haters continue to mentioning so called “Renault engines”. If you dig deep you’ll find out that this engines are seriously revised from Mercedes engineers and they demand specifications, materials and details slightly different from the original 1.5 dCi. Actually they changed more than 100 specifications and details as I understood few years ago when they announced this partnership. Also I didn’t heard complaints from customers concerning this engines reliability.

    Good review from Rebecca. A class a bit mediocre though...I couldn't care less about all the touch screens - overly expensive and a potential real failure point in future. Shouldn't we be watching the road? Overall car looks ugly inside and average outside.
    There's just nothing that makes me WANT the car, and for this money that's a killer when there are cheaper cars that look and drive better, and are likely to be more reliable.

And 3rd - they ruined the entire Mercedes line up - I'm quite sick of Vegener's copy-paste design!

      Mercedes lost their way after the W124 and 126 producing ugly, unreliable cars with horrendous running costs. Drive even a Hyundai or Kia and they are better screwed together and run rings around any benz for reliability. Anyone in the trade will tell you how bad MB cars are these days.

It's now 4 years old and well over 100,000 miles without any problems. It's a dream on the autobahns and shrugs off the worst of balkan roads. I really cannot fault them. (BTW, I used to be regularly in a Cee'd for about 2 years, and those things are awful. Cheap interior, and teh rear suspension always feels crash as soon as they hit 50,000 miles. Plus the seats are really thin and mega uncomfortable. I was always relieved to get in to my car after).
