Nah I think leaks pushed quality of companies announcing a new game or device , so they prepare for a possible leak so they put a lot of effort keeping a leak in mind

As long as they let me turn RT off and set the Resolution to 1440p they can do whatever they want. If I can't do those two things i doubt i'd buy this pro model.
I'd say that is up to the game devs and has nothing to do with the console. See "Dragon's Dogma 2" where at first RT could not be disabled, but the option has been added now.
Why would you buy a higher spec console then run it at lower graphical specs? Surely the the ideal is to have ray tracing on, run at 3840 x 2160 and have a bare minimum of 60fps.

Most people only got their hands on a PS5 after 2022, after the stock issues were resolved. It's kind of pointless to release a Pro version already, when only a handful of games have been truly "next-gen" so far (without a PS4 release).

Hopefully AAA game devs drop cross gen ports before the PS5 Pro comes out. What's the point in getting a mid gen upgrade console if they're still being held back by more than a decade old hardware
Even cross gen games aren't reaching the limits of low-mid range TVs (4K60fps), they are normally 1440p60fps, they can still aim for native 4K60fps for those games.
That's not true. If the game is developed targeting the new hardware, they can just drop resolution and some setting for last gen hardware. If the cross gen games are not runing at 120fps, rest assure the console is not held back by the PS4. You need to be more realistic. The PRO will only provide a better resolution with a margical graphics upgrade if at all.
Sometimes, these leaks are intentional so that they can observe our reactions online and get people like us hyped up. It's a genius marketing strategy.
Yeah... people like you.but Maybe not people like me. 1. There's only a 10% boost on the CPU which won't be utilized much 2. There's only a 45% boost on the GPU ( around 14.33 TFLOPS from 10.28 TFLOPS on base PS5) which when considering the 105% boost we got on the PS4 pro, is really small. 3. There is almost no AAA titles coming out to take advantage of this upgrade except maybe GTA 6 4. Don't expect GTA 6 to run at 60 fps except at 1080p
@joelnwadike3181 10% boost is fine. A massive CPU boost and you're at something closer to a PS6. A few games that only run at 30 isn't a problem with the hardware, the developers chose to use a 30fps target and use their budget elsewhere.
They dont want to because it costs money, and with Xbox's BC there were only 5-6% of people who were using the feature. And that was made in a way that if you had the disc, you didnt even need to buy the game again. Drive would read the licence, and the console would download x86 port on the HDD.
Depends on how ready Sony are to reveal this officially, I that assume that they would be ready to release it at least within two months after announcement like they did with PS4 PRO the announcement was September 8 2016 and PRO released in November 10 2016.
Except this isn't an announcement. Their "confirming" the console by taking down videos about the Pro and Variety making an article about them getting leaked specs. Sony hasn't announced anything

I'm super interested in PSSR and what it brings to the table - will this be frame gen or an equivalent to DLSS 3 - either would be huge - I have a 4070 based laptop and these features make the card perform like a much higher spec'd card. I am guessing they have reverse engineered these features from Nvidia and put a Sony spin on it to make it different enough so they do not have problems down the road.
Man.. maybe I'll switch to just waiting for ps6 pro.. always feel like I miss out on the best version of console.. but I haven't the need to buy nearly the same console twice. Might just chill with my reg PS5 for extra long this time
Your incoming ps3 collection video is going to drive me into a deep rabbit hole. I'm in the process of buying and playing a tonne of ps3 games I missed out out when I was younger, mainly due to a lack of money, not enough time and the PS4 launching at an awkward time during my final school year not allowing me to play as much during that time. I foresee Mystic talking about and recommending games that will inevitably need to be added to my collection 😅 There are so many hidden gems on the ps3 that are locked on that system and the fact that Sony is leaving that system behind makes me really sad.
People are crazy. They think hardware is magical. But it's all just math. The PS4 was 150w, PS4 slim was 80w and the PS4 pro was 150w. Double the freacking power by going from 28nm to 16nm (almost half = almost double the performance per watt). The PS5 is 250w !!! It's already huge and the cooling system is already twice as big as PS4 and all wraped around the fan (best place to cool). The PS5 "slim" was barely an improvement going from 7nm to 6nm. There are 5nm and 4nm but the 4nm cost an arm to produce. Sony will either get a slight improvement with 5nm or make people pay 700$+ for 4nm. None of these will provide the PS4 pro's jump in performance unless they also increase the size of the chip and bump its power target. But the console will be even bigger or sound like a jet engine (PS3 ... cought). The PS5 pro will not be amazing, there will be some serious compromises somewhere.

Ray tracing should not be a priority on current consoles. They're too cheap to have the hardware to do it while maintaining 60fps and 4K or whatever high-ish resolution they're insisting on using. Maybe in a gen or two that will be possible, but not yet.
I miss the days and weeks leading up to the PS5 release. Everything that came out was so exciting. I was glued to every Playstation & gaming channel on RUclips during those days.
I’m staying with my ps5 og it’s still good enough and no issues yet because I took good care of it and I upgraded with an extra ssd m.2 2TB and add a cool case plates with an cooler fans by kiwi home to run more lower temperatures..at the most I’ll upgrade my 4k 60hz to a 4k 120hz tv with more features
The CPU only getting a 10% boost feels pretty underwhelming. They could have launched base PS5 with that extra performance and then delivered a bigger leap with the Pro. To make 60 frames a target for almost every game.
They couldn't make it much faster for numerous reasons... mainly to keep clock in check for games being made for PS5... what people don't understand is that most tech is involved in the graphics end... simply "features" added that can be turned on or enabled in these enhanced games for more graphical fidelity.
I have always said, since right before the release of the original ps5, I am going to wait till 2 years after the release of the PS5 pro before I buy one. Let all the scalpers and resellers die away and let all the bugs get worked out. Plus give it time for a good collection of great games utilizing the hardware and software to come out. This way I don't stress myself out unnecessarily.
Is it bad that I kinda hope that the ps5 pro fails commercially? I understood the ps4 pro and xbox one x, but for this generation it kind of seems like a slap in the face for anyone who bought a standard ps5. But, going beyond the consumer perspective, this doesn't seem great for developers either. This adds an aditional sque to optimize for while we are already seeing many studios struggle with consistent optimization on all platforms, long development times, and ballooning budgets. Innovation generally comes from technical limitations, exspecially in game development. Giving developers a new thing that they are going to have to learn to develop for over the back half of this generation, with development times already taking as long as they do, tells me that we may never see the ps5 or ps5 pro pushed to their very limits by developers like we saw at the end of the ps3 generation. The Last of Us, for example, was always to be a ps3 game and that team, from the start of development to the end of development, got to figure out how to maximize performance and visuals from the ps3 in every posible way. AAA games that are starting development right now are being built with the ps6 in mind. So, we might see very few titles that are actually developed for the ps5 pro from start to finish. Sorry for this rant, it's just as a student game developer getting ready to start their career in the industry, I really hate to see this. I hope that the "Pro" mid gen refresh is something that dies this generation.
ps5 pro uses ps5 GNM/GNMX API same as OG PS5 its not really a 'different' platform, just different SKU... also not sure why you wouldn't be looking forward to it somewhat, as a dev im really looking forward to the increased AI compute capabilities...it doesn't have to be used for PSSR/random raytracing shit, the compute budget in that department could be used for basic dialogue generation, maybe with a light weight homebrew model of some sort... get PSVR2, you'll see the point then PSVR2 stands to benefit the most from a pro :p

However, I do feel that players will expect games to leverage the 2x RT boost and also PSSR since they are paying for the upgrade and those are the heavily touted features. To me, it just seems like a lot more work for teams building their games for ps5 to now also have to address the capabilities of ps5 pro, while still staying within the limitations of the base ps5. Exspcially at a time where many AAA studios are trying to trim fat.
@WorriedcrewePCandPS tbf they're always trying to "trim the fat" for max profits usually. Although if they put the work in and make a compelling Pro version they could look at it as an investment of dev time to get a bigger financial return in sales with more people buying the game on Pro consoles.

This was co-developed with AMD, how much more custom hardware you want lmao, they practically designed the silicon. Also leaks suggest that PS6 is on development with AMD for about a year now, so not their own branded CPU.

Hey! Anyone curious as to how they're going to market this console?! Coz 4k is already written on the box and 8k isn't even being used. Ps5 pro is powerful yeah but not capable of 8k. There aren't even any AAA games coming out to take advantage of the ps5 pro hardware except maybe GTA VI GTA 6 might even shift to 2025😒

Why are people even mentioning the ps6. It’s years away. Personally I’ll be leaving the pro. I just can’t see how it’ll give enough to justify. There was good reasons for moving to a pro in the previous generation but this is different.
Will we be able to pop out the expanded SSD memory from the PS5 and reinstall it in the PS5 pro? I was kind of assuming that I will be losing all of the game library on the expanded SSD moving it to the newer Console.

GTA 6 won't be on PC for some time, right? No doubt the PS5 Pro will be the DeFacto place to play optimally, and I'm willing to bet it'll be *noticeable.* It's not exclusive, but the performance will be.
Am I the only one that gets turned off by the whole “detachable disc drive” ordeal? I understand it would have some benefits such as if the disc drive messed up you could just buy another. But I’m a physical collector/gamer, I like my physical media. Not only does the current slim ps5 not look as good but that detectable drive just throws me off. The fact it needs an internet connect when first connected. I miss the old days of gaming, you didn’t need internet. Throw a game in and play. I have been wanting a 2nd ps5 but don’t care for the slim so I thought I’d wait for a pro model but knowing it will have a detachable disc drive. Idk now.

What we need is a PS5 version of Parasite Eve & Parasite Eve 2. I want to finish PE 2 and can't because I lost 1 of the 2 discs (and of course the 1 I didn't lose is always available on eBay... so I'm not the only one who loses that 1 of 2 discs)
A 5nm+ Zen 3 based CPU would have been *sooo* good, it would've enabled 120fps gaming quite often. And 32 or at the very least 24 gb of memory would have served so well for implementing better textures, shadows and ray tracing. And just before anyone says: I have a fairly decent gaming PC which can run most well optimized triple A titles at 120fps+ (wether at 1440p or even 4K), and it is *not* expensive like crazy. And for all the mediocre people saying "who needs 120fps?! all we need is stable 60fps", allow me to reveal the realization that there is already a 60fps PS5, it has been in the market for more than 3 and a half years, and it's NOT going to disappear. For me, the whole point of a *NEW* piece of hardware is to enable *NEW* experiences and raise the standars. I would have been interested in a truly powerful PS5 Pro in order to play the good exclusives that PlayStation has and keeps delivering from time to time. **sigh** So disappointed...

That’s why everyone in the internet was so negative towards PS5, because the start of this generation was unbelievably slow. But by reading your comment, some context is needed. The mentions of console lifespan aren’t true to reality. Since the meaning of lifespan that Sony meant is that the PS6 will come to replace the PS5, and the time between these consoles is half over. On the other hand, a console is alive for as long as the user uses it. And PS4 has been immortal in that regard. Even in 2023 I played games like RE4 Remake on PS4 when my lil bro is using the PS5.

I heard it is 100% real, but they may consider cancelling it. Gta6 got delayed. I bet they will probably announce and release it, but it is not 100% confirmed yet. (like 99.9% confirmed) Hopefully it's not another Nintendo Switch pro situation which was also a real thing, but never announced and released.

To put things into perspective. Rdr2 is capable of running at locked 60fps on base ps5. Yet it is locked at 30fps. Rdr1 that now runs at 60fps on ps5, can probably run that game at 120fps. Most ps4 games are locked at 30fps. And they could without an issue run at locked 60 on base ps5, yet they're not utilized. Base ps5 is pretty much a box without games, underutilized. And now they're trying to sell another box that is more powerful than this one, while not addressing the software problem at all. It will only enchance the poorly optimized ps5 games. That are by default mediocre games. Because most new games are just boring recycled products. I didn't care at all for forbidden west. Tried playing it 3 times. Simply did not care. Looked great. Ran great. And now potentially it will be 60fps capable on true 4k. But that won't change that game. I still won't care for it. Ps2 titles are still going to be poor ports with graphical glitches. You're still not getting ps3 emulation, even though you could. So what are we really doing. Who gives a crap about rt? Is anyone actually buying that promotional bs? We all know that rt isn't that impressive in on the best GPUs out there. And we are gonna act like a console version will be great for rt. They hyped up the psvr2, and then it turns out software is lacking. And now it's getting a pc support. It's like buying headphones just because it's says sony on them. What's the point. Like they're entirely forgot the software part of deal. And became strickly just another production house for e waste. Better purchase is getting a base ps5 and wait for an explot. And then use unofficial patches to play underutilized good games from last gen. Current gen really ain't worth it in terms of game library. Just wait for ps6 and play the best of ps5 there.
I want to see how the developers use all those CU’s that the PS5 pro is going to have / sense the Xbox series X has all those CU’s / but the developers didn’t take full advantage of them
I think its more because Playstation is the preferred platform for devs focusing their efforts on game optimisation, it explains why alot of 3rd party games run just as good if not better than the Series X version which it shouldn't because on paper the Series X is the more powerful machine apart from the slower SSD.

I was once a computer upgrade enthusiast. In my experience, I barely felt any gaming benefits from a CPU upgrade. I upgraded my CPU and motherboard every three months, but soon felt like it was a waste of money. However, after spending $300 more on a graphics card, my game frame rate increased significantly.

Sony has been stated Ragnorock was the last Cross gen exclusive.

If a hobbyist coding team can emulate PS3 on PC, then Sony can definitely do it officially with the PS5/Pro. They just don't want to.
They dont want to because it costs money, and with Xbox's BC there were only 5-6% of people who were using the feature. And that was made in a way that if you had the disc, you didnt even need to buy the game again. Drive would read the licence, and the console would download x86 port on the HDD.

Depends on how ready Sony are to reveal this officially, I that assume that they would be ready to release it at least within two months after announcement like they did with PS4 PRO the announcement was September 8 2016 and PRO released in November 10 2016.

I'm super interested in PSSR and what it brings to the table - will this be frame gen or an equivalent to DLSS 3 - either would be huge - I have a 4070 based laptop and these features make the card perform like a much higher spec'd card. I am guessing they have reverse engineered these features from Nvidia and put a Sony spin on it to make it different enough so they do not have problems down the road.
It’s AMD tech so I wouldn’t really get your hopes up. They’re at least five years behind Nvidia’s dlss 3.

I'm in the process of buying and playing a tonne of ps3 games I missed out out when I was younger, mainly due to a lack of money, not enough time and the PS4 launching at an awkward time during my final school year not allowing me to play as much during that time. I foresee Mystic talking about and recommending games that will inevitably need to be added to my collection 😅
There are so many hidden gems on the ps3 that are locked on that system and the fact that Sony is leaving that system behind makes me really sad.
I might just wait for the PS6, imma be real idk if I want the PS5 pro. I’m happy with the normal one.

People are crazy. They think hardware is magical. But it's all just math. The PS4 was 150w, PS4 slim was 80w and the PS4 pro was 150w. Double the freacking power by going from 28nm to 16nm (almost half = almost double the performance per watt). The PS5 is 250w !!! It's already huge and the cooling system is already twice as big as PS4 and all wraped around the fan (best place to cool). The PS5 "slim" was barely an improvement going from 7nm to 6nm. There are 5nm and 4nm but the 4nm cost an arm to produce. Sony will either get a slight improvement with 5nm or make people pay 700$+ for 4nm. None of these will provide the PS4 pro's jump in performance unless they also increase the size of the chip and bump its power target. But the console will be even bigger or sound like a jet engine (PS3 ... cought).
The PS5 pro will not be amazing, there will be some serious compromises somewhere.

Ray tracing should not be a priority on current consoles. They're too cheap to have the hardware to do it while maintaining 60fps and 4K or whatever high-ish resolution they're insisting on using. Maybe in a gen or two that will be possible, but not yet.
I miss the days and weeks leading up to the PS5 release. Everything that came out was so exciting. I was glued to every Playstation & gaming channel on RUclips during those days.

I’m staying with my ps5 og it’s still good enough and no issues yet because I took good care of it and I upgraded with an extra ssd m.2 2TB and add a cool case plates with an cooler fans by kiwi home to run more lower temperatures..at the most I’ll upgrade my 4k 60hz to a 4k 120hz tv with more features

The CPU only getting a 10% boost feels pretty underwhelming. They could have launched base PS5 with that extra performance and then delivered a bigger leap with the Pro. To make 60 frames a target for almost every game.
They couldn't make it much faster for numerous reasons... mainly to keep clock in check for games being made for PS5... what people don't understand is that most tech is involved in the graphics end... simply "features" added that can be turned on or enabled in these enhanced games for more graphical fidelity.
It’s up to the developers for how they leverage the power of a machine. Developers favor graphics and so have fans these past few generations.
Or they just wait and skip the pro nonsense.. In 2 years the PS6 comes out.

I have always said, since right before the release of the original ps5, I am going to wait till 2 years after the release of the PS5 pro before I buy one. Let all the scalpers and resellers die away and let all the bugs get worked out. Plus give it time for a good collection of great games utilizing the hardware and software to come out. This way I don't stress myself out unnecessarily.
Is it bad that I kinda hope that the ps5 pro fails commercially? I understood the ps4 pro and xbox one x, but for this generation it kind of seems like a slap in the face for anyone who bought a standard ps5. But, going beyond the consumer perspective, this doesn't seem great for developers either. This adds an aditional sque to optimize for while we are already seeing many studios struggle with consistent optimization on all platforms, long development times, and ballooning budgets. Innovation generally comes from technical limitations, exspecially in game development. Giving developers a new thing that they are going to have to learn to develop for over the back half of this generation, with development times already taking as long as they do, tells me that we may never see the ps5 or ps5 pro pushed to their very limits by developers like we saw at the end of the ps3 generation. The Last of Us, for example, was always to be a ps3 game and that team, from the start of development to the end of development, got to figure out how to maximize performance and visuals from the ps3 in every posible way. AAA games that are starting development right now are being built with the ps6 in mind. So, we might see very few titles that are actually developed for the ps5 pro from start to finish.
Sorry for this rant, it's just as a student game developer getting ready to start their career in the industry, I really hate to see this. I hope that the "Pro" mid gen refresh is something that dies this generation.
ps5 pro uses ps5 GNM/GNMX API same as OG PS5 its not really a 'different' platform, just different SKU...
also not sure why you wouldn't be looking forward to it somewhat, as a dev im really looking forward to the increased AI compute capabilities...it doesn't have to be used for PSSR/random raytracing shit, the compute budget in that department could be used for basic dialogue generation, maybe with a light weight homebrew model of some sort...
get PSVR2, you'll see the point then PSVR2 stands to benefit the most from a pro :p

However, I do feel that players will expect games to leverage the 2x RT boost and also PSSR since they are paying for the upgrade and those are the heavily touted features. To me, it just seems like a lot more work for teams building their games for ps5 to now also have to address the capabilities of ps5 pro, while still staying within the limitations of the base ps5. Exspcially at a time where many AAA studios are trying to trim fat.
@WorriedcrewePCandPS tbf they're always trying to "trim the fat" for max profits usually. Although if they put the work in and make a compelling Pro version they could look at it as an investment of dev time to get a bigger financial return in sales with more people buying the game on Pro consoles.

This was co-developed with AMD, how much more custom hardware you want lmao, they practically designed the silicon. Also leaks suggest that PS6 is on development with AMD for about a year now, so not their own branded CPU.

Why are people even mentioning the ps6. It’s years away. Personally I’ll be leaving the pro. I just can’t see how it’ll give enough to justify. There was good reasons for moving to a pro in the previous generation but this is different.

We need games and exclusives pushing the PS5 rather than a new console. Lack of a proper limited edition console that wasn’t cover plates and must have games has been near non existent.
GTA 6 won't be on PC for some time, right? No doubt the PS5 Pro will be the DeFacto place to play optimally, and I'm willing to bet it'll be *noticeable.* It's not exclusive, but the performance will be.
Am I the only one that gets turned off by the whole “detachable disc drive” ordeal? I understand it would have some benefits such as if the disc drive messed up you could just buy another. But I’m a physical collector/gamer, I like my physical media. Not only does the current slim ps5 not look as good but that detectable drive just throws me off. The fact it needs an internet connect when first connected. I miss the old days of gaming, you didn’t need internet. Throw a game in and play. I have been wanting a 2nd ps5 but don’t care for the slim so I thought I’d wait for a pro model but knowing it will have a detachable disc drive. Idk now.

A 5nm+ Zen 3 based CPU would have been *sooo* good, it would've enabled 120fps gaming quite often. And 32 or at the very least 24 gb of memory would have served so well for implementing better textures, shadows and ray tracing.
And just before anyone says: I have a fairly decent gaming PC which can run most well optimized triple A titles at 120fps+ (wether at 1440p or even 4K), and it is *not* expensive like crazy. And for all the mediocre people saying "who needs 120fps?! all we need is stable 60fps", allow me to reveal the realization that there is already a 60fps PS5, it has been in the market for more than 3 and a half years, and it's NOT going to disappear. For me, the whole point of a *NEW* piece of hardware is to enable *NEW* experiences and raise the standars. I would have been interested in a truly powerful PS5 Pro in order to play the good exclusives that PlayStation has and keeps delivering from time to time.

Congrats, Sony, on the upcoming PS5 "Pro". I will not be impressed with the latest bells and whistles and the new specs. I paid through the nose to obtain the original PS5 from an Ebay scalper. It has everything I could possibly want from a game console.

The CPU runs at 3.5 GHz with an Alternate mode that runs at 3.85 GHz, which developers can choose to utilize if they want.

Do you really think we are half done??? I mean the console was hard to get for the first 2 years. And games coming out slowly now. Imo it feels more like a true start with 2023 and 2024. Even the PS4 got and is getting new games after 10 years. Imo PS5 gen could be the longest generation because of way faster CPU and M2 SSD as base. And the peak is not reached yet (based on developer statements).

That’s why everyone in the internet was so negative towards PS5, because the start of this generation was unbelievably slow.
But by reading your comment, some context is needed. The mentions of console lifespan aren’t true to reality. Since the meaning of lifespan that Sony meant is that the PS6 will come to replace the PS5, and the time between these consoles is half over.
On the other hand, a console is alive for as long as the user uses it. And PS4 has been immortal in that regard. Even in 2023 I played games like RE4 Remake on PS4 when my lil bro is using the PS5.

I heard it is 100% real, but they may consider cancelling it. Gta6 got delayed. I bet they will probably announce and release it, but it is not 100% confirmed yet. (like 99.9% confirmed) Hopefully it's not another Nintendo Switch pro situation which was also a real thing, but never announced and released.
Rather than be surprised and dismayed by the leaks, Sony should have announced the Pro before sharing the specs with third parties.

Wouldn´t make sense. Of course PS4 Games will run as well. PS5 Pro will use the base from PS5, so there is no reason for that happen imo.
To put things into perspective.
Rdr2 is capable of running at locked 60fps on base ps5. Yet it is locked at 30fps.
Rdr1 that now runs at 60fps on ps5, can probably run that game at 120fps.
Most ps4 games are locked at 30fps. And they could without an issue run at locked 60 on base ps5, yet they're not utilized.
Base ps5 is pretty much a box without games, underutilized.
And now they're trying to sell another box that is more powerful than this one, while not addressing the software problem at all.
It will only enchance the poorly optimized ps5 games. That are by default mediocre games. Because most new games are just boring recycled products.
I didn't care at all for forbidden west. Tried playing it 3 times. Simply did not care. Looked great. Ran great.
And now potentially it will be 60fps capable on true 4k. But that won't change that game. I still won't care for it.

I think its more because Playstation is the preferred platform for devs focusing their efforts on game optimisation, it explains why alot of 3rd party games run just as good if not better than the Series X version which it shouldn't because on paper the Series X is the more powerful machine apart from the slower SSD.

I was once a computer upgrade enthusiast. In my experience, I barely felt any gaming benefits from a CPU upgrade. I upgraded my CPU and motherboard every three months, but soon felt like it was a waste of money. However, after spending $300 more on a graphics card, my game frame rate increased significantly.
