Portable PS4 Rumor Heats Up With SIE Job Listing For Different CPU Architecture Compatibility
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 июн 2024
- This past Friday there was a job listing at SIE that was looking for someone who can work on moving PlayStation games over to a different, modern CPU. And then in the same day, a rumor sprang up about Sony developing a new handheld system that would play PS4 game. And there's been plenty of speculation about what this job was really for. Could it be Sony switching to ARM for PS6? Or switching to ARM for a portable? Are they even doing another Portable? Is this just for a future AMD Zen PS6? So many questions and yet no answers. But we can surely speculate. And speculate we shall. Or did rather, I just did. Past tense.

The switch was such a success. I can't fathom why this took so long for others to go portable.
Just imagine ps4 performance on the go with all of your library. Absolutely Crazy
That already exists. It's called Steam Deck. So I'm not sure what the value proposition or big deal of a portable PS4 would be.
@teehundeart I can now play every PS4 game I bought on a handheld? Also all my PS Classics.
@@WllKiedSnakethat’s called a psp 💪 ps vita also has a large amount of classics reported a ps4 portable would be a waste of money and no doubt a financial failure
@teehundeart Because most PC ports suck. And without cross-play, you're suck in the pc ecosphere.
@@teehundeart Exactly this. Steam Deck is already playing these titles with PS4-like performance, and even makes the PS Portal obsolete
Games still being released on PS4 makes a lot more sense now
My PS4 digital catalogue is massive. I have all the PS Classics also, so this is something worth getting to me.
And if it’s backwards compatible with my whole plus library….
@AcornElectron Yeah! Hopefully at some point they get PS3 emulation to work.
Doubt they would let purchases carry over. Sony isn't pro consumer anymore.
Yeah, get ready to pay again if you want to play them on the go.
@@n3r0dmc4 Why would I need to pay again if they are in my library of games?
Insta buy if true 🙏🏾
for real, i would love it
Big if true
Why would you buy Instagram if this news is true?
ps is dying why even buy it? look at ps5 bought it and bro almost no games i only play pc for like 2 years
R/woosh@@nityam2106
This will be a day 1 buy for me! I love PC and Steam Deck, but I don’t enjoy messing with settings to get the game to run right! A proper PlayStation handheld is what we need!
Me too for sure !!! I think it’s a win for sony, that can push sales of an entire library.
If they do this portable, the ps4 will truly be the goat.
A Sunday video? No complaints on my end.
He is always working. Definitely appreciated
He must auto upload , i’m assuming he dint record this on Sunday
If it has PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1 and some low resource games like Hades 2 etc it will be great!
Ur comment "if it plays 97% of their catalog it will sell" lol im just being a dick but my first thought reading ur comment was NO SHIT
So true. Many indie new games can run on ps4 hardware with no issues so it won’t be limited to old games.
I'd be happy if it also ran PSP and PS Vita games as well.
It won't have PS3 lets face it.. Not even home consoles are emulating that why would a handheld?
ps3 is impossible
What i think is that this new device will play PS4 natively and do remote play streaming for PS5. Basically Portal was a test for the streaming side, and now they're ready to implement a complete device. I think its genius, actually. And now that it will have storage, you will be able to use it with your Plus library!
I think it will play downscaled ps5 titles as welll as ps4.
Very wise to do a portable that doesn’t require a new line of software.
PSP could have dominated if it had the second analog stick because it was basically a portable PS2 but had its controls gimped .
So why the ds and 3ds crush sony's handheld line🤔
@@michaellynch8612 Mario sells...
@@xxbyron13xx not even . Overall innovation and better game play
@@michaellynch8612Because they knew what made people buy it. Good games.
@@michaellynch8612To put this in perspective, though, Sony's PSP was comparatively a lot more successful in the face of Nintendo's concurrent handheld, than competitors in the past with the Game Boy (Atari Lynx, Sega Game Gear, Bandai Wonderswan). It was the Vita that killed that momentum with lack of support and proprietary memory cards (Sony really should release the specs of those cards to Samsung or San Disk or something)
Sunday video? I'll take it!
I hope Sony can make it PS4 Pro specs, just to make it seem like we have newish tech rather than 2013 tech.
Some people will never be pleased it seems
Playstation portal was basically a Trojan horse so that people create a fuzz about it , creating a want for a psp like portable, and it worked , it seems to have got people talking about it left and right
No it wasn't, it was to fool idiots to spend half the cost of a PS5 that does nothing
What about if they make an hybrid "PS VR2 PRO" that uses the same SoC of their handheld for stand alone experiences but still with the option of hooking it up to the PS5 and, in that case, leverage the power of the built in chip for like, processing the PSSR calculations or something like that. I think that would boost their sales so radically
I still play my vita every now and then. I’ll never let it die
I believe that portability is more valuable than virtual reality (VR) at the moment. VR still needs another 10 years before we see full games like God of War or any AAA games. I know the Switch has games like Tears of the Kingdom, but objectively, Switch games aren't as demanding on hardware compared to those on the PS5 or Xbox.
I heard same thing 10 years ago. Lets be honest people are not into VR gaming and that will not change.
@@BlackSnake1602 It Still doesn't change the fact that VR games are not on the same level technically. They still feel like a tech demo, especially for Console.
@@chumcalmdown problem is not how they look but how they are being designed for VR and how they are being played. VR is good only for driving games, walking games and some shooting games, 99% in FPP.
@@BlackSnake1602 Very bold of you to assume we will be playing games on consoles connected to TVs in the future. The natural progression for gaming would be to make games more interactive and immersive. VR is obviously not there at the moment but it will get there. Tech will always advance regardless of how you feel, so to say "that will not change" is a small-minded view point.
@@mrblueblack gaming will change but only in direction where money is to make. There is no money to make on VR so it is pretty much dead. Books are hundread years around and guess what, we still use them so yeah we will use flat screens for games, most likely mobile gaming will dominate market.
Having access to your entire digital PS4 library on a portable device right off the bat would be absolutely amazing.
Is it safe to same backwards compatibility is here to stay? I think it’s still too early to tell.
I usually wait out PS consoles for their hardware and software to be revised a few times before I buy, but man, my whole PS4 library on the go in a better manner than Remote Play on the Vita is definitely a day 1 purchase for me. Disc based games will most likely not be supported though, not even in a install-by-USB solution. That's a shame. While they're at it, they should give full PSP and hopefully Vita support, though I doubt it. Touch screen yes, touch back pad probably not, camera: definitely not.
So many videos of yours recently! It's like Christmas :P
YO DUDE. I can't believe I got a feature in a Mystic Ryan vid! 0:50 with the PitterPot store art in the vid haha!
I'm guessing the portal was market research
Course it was LOL
That actually sounds like a quite good idea and way more interesting than the portal
Crazy week for PlayStation News.
Thanks for all the timely videos.
Cmon Showcase!!
Love how serious mystic is lmao
4:30 am Ryan drops knowledge
Love that some see it as a New PSP and I'd be excited for that but couldn't this simply also be for IOS/ Mac/ Arm Windows? but yeah the reaction to the portal was just "we want a new PSP" so maybe the'll listen. getting PS4 to a Portalble is doable now hardware-wise for sure as they have full control over the software end-to-end it'll be light as possible on the translation front, also if they can build a software call to force games to a lower resolution like 720p would be pretty useful as PS4 has a lot of 1080p titles. whatever it is, seems like a positive step. I still want them to tackle PS3 emulation though because you don't need much GPU grunt to emulate that console, all CPU/bandwidth/DMA stuff they can tackle since they always do custom hardware.
a portable device that's more so in line with those retro handhelds we've been seeing is interesting. As in it already has a library and likely wont get new games but possibly can give life to older games and give a way for people to play it. Gonna be interesting to see how it pans out. Might be another way like with PC for sony to extend lifespans for certain games. I think the big thing they have to do if this is the case is form factor. It has to be similar to switch lite imo. Having a beefy handheld is one thing but if there is no justification then i dont see how it would go over well
I’d potentially be interested if the form factor is similar to the vita and can fit in your pocket. My big gripe with the switch and steam deck is that they’re still too big to carry around without a case/backpack.
ps4 portable will sell 10m units in the 1st month
Looks promising
I just found your channel you have the best reviews I have ever seen
In that case I would love it to have the same form factor of the portal, that way I would have one device both for portable and remote play (kinda like the steam deck, but without having to rebuy my ps library and with proper dualsense support for streaming).
My man is out here on a Sunday. This MUST be some serious news.
The portal would have already taken a lot of potential sales. I use my portal almost every day as smaller Indy or 2D games just look better on the small screen to me. But I never play away from home, so this portable ps4 would essentially be the same as what I already have 🤷♂️
Perhaps if they made a proper dedicated handheld that had its own games and competed with switch 2, that could also play ps4 games. That might work.
Creating yet another platform that developers have to adjust to is most likely something Sony will want to avoid. Otherwise there is a real risk of another Vita situation, where devs just don't want to support this new platform.
@@bellissimo4520if they set expectations for it the right way & don’t go all in on it
It could work
@@bellissimo4520 I agree, it would need support from 1st party studios. But without being more than just a portable ps4, it doesn’t really have much going for it over a portal other than not needing a network connection. Is that worth double the price and the lack of ps5 games? Probably not. They would be better off investing in more servers and allowing cloud streaming of the plus collection directly to the portal without the need for a ps5.
You are the only person I've seen say good things about the Portal. I don't think it's taking away any sales. Most people who want a handheld console want to play it on the go. I think as long as it plays PS4 games ..its going to do fine, and even better if it can get older games from PS1 to PS3 and even vita and psp
@@Calme_Ja3 I’ve had zero issues with the portal, and I’m playing loads of smaller games on it I would have usually overlooked, it’s great. At least here in the uk it was sold out for quite a while after launch, so it must have sold well.
This move will make me go more digital.
I like my discs games for big screen, couch sessions but something small like this for indies/ old school games. You betcha!
Would be nice is we also got physical cartridges of the games for those that want the option for a physical collection.
I wish man, but it would most likely be an all digital device
if they make a new PSP. sure.
If its just a remote ps4 player, nah
How does that work with Physical games?
It likely wouldn't
@@stevendalouche7127 That's a bummer. Since all my bought games are Physical.

Love the description. Glad some channels still throw a funny or two in there. Takes me back to the days when youtube wasnt money based

@@Tyler-stime you mean indie games?
@@Crunchyman99 yes I do that’s it ps5 should be getting the big triple A titles

Natively, right? That's what I was thinking
@@R4idenXS PS3 emulation is quite hard but it should be possible on a Zen 2 console if Sony themselves put all of their talent into a good translation layer between Cell and X86, I hope it could happen. This is the reason I got the Series X first in 2020, I was able to play 90% of my 360 games.
And I’m currently waiting for the PS5 Pro to show up to get one. I hope they’ll figure it out by the time it comes out.
@@ThibautMahringerThere is no logical reason why Sony should care for backwards compatibility. There is far too much work. The smart decision is to just remake those old games and make a lot of money. PS3 games will look like garbage upscaled on a modern TV anyway.
@@ZackSNetwork There's two reasons : one, preservation; two, well there was good games on PS3 worth replaying.
Sony won't port all of these games because there's a lot of 3rd party stuff on there too.
Lately I started replaying FF13 on my Series X just to see if my opinion changed on the game since the last time I played it on 360, and now I found myself enjoying it, and running it at a 3072x1728 resolution. It looks great on my 4K TV.
I can't really see a reality where developing PS3 emulation for a fixed platform such as PS5 is too hard, especially when you're the one who made both consoles.
When some passionate people are making PS3 emulation for PC a reality, with their own hands, on their free time, with considerably less manpower, and less space for optimization due to it being a PC work.
I simply don't believe it.
@ZackSNetwork Nintendo switch is garbage, Playstation portal is better and this ps4 steam deck portable that you get triggered to Nintendrone hahaha
yeah I'd be down for this 👍
Woah, Sunday video? :3
Anton Logvinov is a credible source. He has deep personal connections with almost all the industry and worked as game journalist for more then 20 years.
He has a lot of haters because of his sceptical views on the PC platform in the past (russians hate consoles because you can't pirate games there)
Based Russians lol
Also want to point out it would be great simply to have 2 parallel PlayStation platforms again... this also benefits Sony as you can sell more console units, some people also only want a portable too, and most importantly this really needs to have the same library compatibility as existing PS4/PS5 users..... PS5 for remote play, and PS4 for native play..... and with AMD's Strix Halo which is a 16 core Zen CPU and 40 CU GPU, achieving far beyond base PS4 performance and even PS4 Pro performance is very doable, the PS Portable also would only need 8 CPU cores, not the full 16 cores of Strix Halo..... the best thing about the Switch is that it is the same library whether you are on the go or at home, and a new PS Portable also must have this of course, there is no way around this
That chip is designed for laptops not handhelds. Its thermal output alone is too much for a handheld to be able to cool. Also, its power requirements would make battery life utterly useless. Handhelds will have to use the lowest end SKU.
@@golddragongaming1 yeah thats why you get a cut down version of it
Reading the job listing the first thing I think of is PS3, when they mention different architectures. I’m probably way off the mark, and it’s about a new portable system, but still, I can dream can’t I?
That sounds like a great opportunity for Sony and the PlayStation Brand. A digital Download Only device similar to the Steam Deck. A great Handheld PS4 device would boost Digital Sale and seeing as the PS5 is backwards compatible with the PS4 library of games it would be a great opportunity for Sony to introduce a real Portable Device that pairs more authentically with this console generation. It could also shape the way Sony prioritizes Digital devices in the future and backwards compatibility. I would love it if Sony made all future consoles backwards compatible with games from PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5 Library moving forward.
cant wait
also cant wait for it to be jailbroken
but nonetheless ill be buying day one
InShaAllah
trust me it will be jailbroken
As long as you can put the PS1, PSP, PS2 and hopefully eventually PS3 games on it, it should be worthwhile.
If they are serious, they should get studios that can make exclusive games for it or downgrade any ps5 titles maybe
PS3 would be complex because of the Cell architecture of PS3 being complicated when compared to Xbox 360 which was simple. I played on most of my friends Xbox 360s and my own PS3 now as I was a Wii loser for many years that realized GameCube was better. I will admit the Xbox 360 was the only Xbox I ever got a chance to play on, though I do have a curiosity towards the original Xbox even though I was a GameCube and PS2 person growing up even if I barely got to play my own PS2 because of input lag on my old Sony Bravia TV from 2008.
You can read the listing as ARM based, but it doesn't have to.
A new x86 Chip is possible as well.
Something like Zen5 or Zen6 and making compatibility for that.
Ryan’s pumping videos out like crazy
WE NEED IT!
Let’s chill out on the speculation for a bit. ❤
Right?? The job posting just sounds like backward compatibility. Nothing about a hand held

Would love this so much.
This is interesting..i assume they want to create something similar like wine, proton that steam OS use..so every game that can be play in main console can directly translate to this new OS without modification from developers
Hopefully Sony learns from the PS Vita numerous previous mistakes. They failed the Vita so hard it’s heartbreaking
Because the Vita failed so badly, it'll have to be something that plays already available PS4 or PS5 games, like the Playstation Portal. Sony is unlikely to get third-party devs onboard with a pure Vita successor.
The Vita was a success...those who know, know
Vita sold more than the Wii U
@@Marcus_Kur not getting the point...its only PS4 games, not Vita 2 games
@@jimmyjay689 It could be both. A Vita 2 with PS4 backwards compatibility could be interesting to both gamers and developers.
So Ps4 Portable ? PSP Vita ? PS5 portable ? Super Vita ? Ps Deck ?
Maybe they did PS5 portal to test the waters.
And the test was even more successful than they anticipated. A portable like this, playing ps4 games natively and with ps5 streaming capabilities (even if it’s remote play) would be a huuuuge success for them
Considering these rumors, the PS Portal feels more like a test run to see if people are actually interested on a Vita successor.
I agree the only way for Sony to compete with the Steam Deck and the Switch is by having a portable PS4 and this might be the key; a translation layer that makes PS4 games run on an ARM architecture, just like what Apple does with Rosetta 2 and their silicon processors.
Now if you really want to take advantage of this new system, then you'd have to natively compile your game to work on it; I feel the PS4 translation layer would only be there for backwards compatibility. I don't think Sony wants to keep supporting the PS4, but rather use it as a stepping stone to further build this branch that works in parallel with the PS5.
I personally don't see the point, I don't see this as a threat to Nintendo Switch 2 whatsoever, as Switch 2 will have its own exclusives rather than regurgitating a catalog that you can already play on the TV. At most it will be a threat to PC handhelds, as they may run games like God of War or Control much more efficiently, but you're going against Steam, which is a difficult competitor when it comes to catalogues. Apparently this will be as niche as the PS Portal sadly; I hope I'm wrong, as I loved my PSP back in the day.
Dang Ryan putting out a lot of breaking news videos! Love seeing more content from him
I loved my psp they stole it
Best part about this is it keeps PS4 relevant. Though it'd be nice if Sony fixed the store, the deliberate sabotage of its features to get people to upgrade to PS5 is gross.
Keeping the ps4 relevant is what's holding current gen back.
Live with it, ps4 hardware is already outdated for almost 10 years. You should have a PS5 by now. Stop crying and holding back games development already. PS4 can have those useless yearly sport games but no AAA games should release on PS4 anymore
@@Whatnot627the PS4 will continue to remain relevant until developing for the PS5 becomes profitable. Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 only game that sold millions of copies and still was close to not being profitable.
@@Whatnot627 It would keep it relevant in terms of existing catalogue and some indies etc. AAA will be ps5 only
@@Whatnot627 I think the industry at large and GaaS are way higher on the culpability list than PS4 staying relevant. 50% of PSN is still PS4. Deal with it.
There are rumors about portable handheld for every Sony's console generations like PS3, PS4 and now PS5.
Nice! I'll be happy to use this instead of my Switch/ SteamDeck :)
This... kinda makes no sense to me without proprietary software? Sony openly stated that this year is the cutoff for ps4 games. Would this platform only work with legacy software? That just doesn't seem viable to me just because the lifespan of this thing would be severely handicapped as a result. Idk man, I honestly would only want this if it had proprietary physical media. Thats just me tho.
Portable ps4 power with 60fps with 8-10" screen will be perfect
Let it be open so we can get emulators in it, imagine 👀
5-7inch, i hope. Hate huge portables. Ps portal and deck are too big
@@myralchista5inch is way to small. I think the Steam Deck is just about right imo.
@@miguelroman4294I disagree the ps vita screen is 5 inches and it is enough unless you have bad vision
If they are making this PS4 Portable, then I hope it's small, or around the size of the Vita, if not a little bigger. I understand that's probably asking way too much, but as someone who already considered the Switch to be a little too big, or rather, too long. Alongside the Steam Deck which is just way too big to the point, I need to carry it around in a backpack if I want to go out and it gives me hand cramps if I try to use it laying down, partly because how heavy it is. Then I think you can probably understand where I'm coming from, with wanting the device to be an actual hand held and not feel like I'm carrying around a mini computer monitor.

Glad to know “rumors” are basically wishes lately.
People are talking about Re1 Remake again. And the rumor said what we all wanted. “The game will be super slow and every enemy will be unique”. Something that comes off as a dream considering what that game is.
Now they are saying PSP. And TBH, I think most people would expect a PS4 mobile when they did that. Since we could carry over a huge library that way. And also because the Vita died because they tried to create a new gaming market with a Vita Uncharted game and other like COD Declassified.

When the playstation Vita came out back in 2011 I was just a kid in school but when the Switch came out in 2017 I was adult who was working with Disposable income.
I missed the chance of being that person who supported the vita but if they release a new handheld I'll buy it on day one.
I grew up in the early 2000's and was in that generation of handheld gaming with Gameboy, Nintendo DS, Playstation portable so on. I like to see this actually happen.
Same
If this thing exists and can play my current PS4 games library, I am in.
Could be beyond PS4 as well. Might be a Backwards compatible portable console with PS Plus Premium Classic catalog across all platforms accessible on this system. We might see some effort from Sony to try to convert PS3 games as well if this is true. Different 'CPU' architectures is very specific. PS4 and PS5 have similar CPU architectures.
Its obvious the portal was a test to see if people would buy a PlayStation portable device and it’s doing really well
Did anyone also recently got the problem that some games the “Hours Played“ feature got reseted? I mean that one game went from 371 total hours to 10 hours. can anyone help me?
So what was the point of ps portal where u can walk outside with a hotspot connection?
this has to run PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 Games Natively.
just running PS4 Games not gonna cut it, just think the XBox Handheld will run Series S Games to the Original XBox.
and most PS4 Exclusives are on the Steam Deck.
This is Sony's opportunity to get serious about Native Backwards Compatibility.
I would love to buy a new PlayStation portable handheld in orange
Put me on the list! I’d buy one day 1!
I’d be willing to bet the PS Portal was a prototype build to see how well things would work. Obviously, they’d beef up the hardware, but nonetheless, the framework is done.
Sounds like this will may be Sony’s first successful transition to a digital only handheld, if true. Most people in the ecosystem already have a good amount of PS4 digital games in their library, so having that library open on day one would be huge for the system. I would like to see backwards compatibility with the VITA as well, but maybe that’s asking for too much.
Most likely it will be like having a PS4 with no disc drive in handheld form. Backwards compatibility will be done through PS Plus.
You do videos so early on it’s 4:35am where I’m currently from lol 😂 but lucky I’m still up though lol 😆 Ryan bro 😎
There is nothing that exists capable to play ps5 in handheld just yet so something able to play ps4 is still seriously impressive! Plus think of the jailbreaks that will come!
0:42 Bro it's blacklight retribution i remember that game it was so fun sad it just got abandoned.
Interesting rumors!
this sounds really cool
Based on the wording, it could very easily be for an emulator type system. PS Plus on PC and/or Mobile, using an official emulator for PS4 games, or just a means to bring more games to PC without individual development time for each title. Avoid streaming issues with this, but you would lose that "PC customization" features with it. It could also be planning for the future PS6, getting ahead of back compat issues in the future.
1 million percent onboard with this idea! I reckon a portable playstation that somewhat focuses on the older gen games would provide a much needed boost in PS plus subscriptions for Sony while operating in the same way as the portal to stream from the modern playstation whether the PS5 or next gen.
I’m playing my portal a lot! I would love a standalone unit that can play games natively.
I hate hearing about these things because, if real, it's probably a few years away, and im tired of waiting years for good things to come only for them to fail or not be as good as described.
This thing will sell out in a few months of release
I hope we hear of a ps4 cord cut is what needs to happen before the end of 2024 since that should of happened back in 2021
If this comes out I’m Fina cop it
