My read of this was the opposite. That they raised the price so people wouldn’t buy the OG for $20 and get the $10 upgrade, effectively getting a $50 game for $30.
This is EXACTLY why it's being done. Sony doesn't give a shit about selling the old game, they want to close a pricing loophole so you can't buy the remaster for less than $50.
This doesn't make sense though, that $50 game doesnt exist anymore. Why would they suddenly be worried about that if they've been selling the game for $20 for 6 years.
Luke, the reason they hiked up the price is because if they had not, the remaster would cost $30 for anyone smart enough to see the pricing loophole. if the remaster's price was $50, but the original with $20 with a $10 upgrade to get to the same remastered product, why would anyone spend $50 when they could just pay $30?

Okay, this video presents an issue, which is that multi billion dollar companies act like multi billion dollar companies, by not caring about the consumers feelings and just maximizing profit. I get that this is annoying, but as mentioned in this video, many other companies do this. And also, I would have loved a solution to the complaint in this video. If the base game would not be doubled in price and and the upgrade only costs 10 Dollars, nobody would buy the remaster for 50, right? Why would you, it would make no sense. So, make the upgrade 30 Dollars then, would be the solution. What I notice is that gaming companies aren't a business that wants to sell a good product to their customers. They are a business that thinks what they themselves like, customer will like it too. So basically they are doing business that is better for them, rather than for their paying customers.
Well yeah it’s bs but anyone with any interest in the game could’ve already gotten it for free in 2021 when they gave it away for a month. Or didn’t they have it as a free ps plus game at some point too? I mean clearly if you wanted to play the game you should’ve already got it for free or next to nothing when it was at its low price. Companies do 💩 to make money so why expect them to act any other way? It’s sorta naive to think otherwise. Blame the government for not doing their part to protect consumers. Especially the Republican Party. That said i don’t agree with it but if you haven’t got the game by now for free or cheap it’s on you.
some people do like remasters of older games although i do understand that some people get tired of them. i personally like for example what companies like square enix are doing with dragon quest 3 for example.

No one mentions the fact the other guys don’t have anything to remaster so it like pouring salt in an old wound or watching a video of yourself getting KO’d, so I get it a constant reminder of a decade plus of domination. A ps4 remake on a ps5 is not necessary at all we want NEW EXPERIENCES lmao For a company with a good of quality IPs to focus on this is depressing to see and one of the many reasons why the gaming industry needs a crash asap (maybe you don’t care but I miss the quality & unique storytelling and gameplay of the ps2-ps4 era something they refuse to go back so they focus on “blockbusters???”)
This is why moving to only digital is bad. These companies can just do things like this. I remember last year thinking it would be fun to play rdr1 and that surely it wouldn't cost much being an over 10 year old game. On Xbox digital it was listed at $30. That game physically in a game stop would cost maybe $5
I buy physical copies unless it’s something super cheap that I don’t care about possibly replaying. But they are really trying to completely eliminate physical discs. It’s getting much more difficult to find used copies of good games and I suspect it’s because people like me who buy discs, either new or used, do it because they want to hold onto them which is furthering the problem. I’m shaking my fist at the clouds because younger generations have no idea how much more fun it was to have new games coming out and the whole culture of that friend getting the new one and everyone could play it. How the PS store hasn't been sued for monopoly yet is beyond me. They have been doing this scummy practice for years now. And slowly they are phasing out disc drives cuz their ultimate goal is to control all the sources through which PS users can buy a game. They want everything routed through PS store and they rarely ever give discounts on the new games(even 4-5 year old games are sold at full price). And they increase prices arbitrarily. They don't want y'all having disc drives and buying discs dirt cheap or used discs/borrowed discs circumventing their monopolistic store.

The PS5 sku is priced at $50. If they leave the PS4 SKU at $20 with $10 upgrade path then there will be no point on pricing the PS5 one at $50. Why $50, who knows, that's what their price scale determined.
The reason why they are doing this is because they want to sell the remaster at 50. They are letting anyone with the original get the remaster for 10 bucks. If they kept it at 20 dollars, then you could get the remaster for 30 bucks. They have a handful of options: Sell the remaster for 30, raise the price of the old version to 40, or raise the upgrade cost to 30
It is even a bit slimier than that. They delisted the "base game" on platforms like Steam, Epic etc. (can't speak for the PS Store, but I would guess the base game is delisted there too) So, unless it gets listed again on the release date of the remaster, you can not buy the OG base game version as a standalone at all, but only bundled with the remaster upgrade. If I understood correct, you'd get both versions, though. They would force you into the $50 purchase, even if you'd only wanted the non-remaster version. Reasons for the old version as a standalone could be older systems, Steam Deck approval, circumvent PSN requirement, moddable game etc. If you haven't got the game already, you might want to grab a cheap $10 key for the OG version now, while they last. If base game does not get listed as standalone again, those resellers will also raise their price.
It's not like Sony don't do shady stuff but this take is just plain silly. There's a 10$ charge for the upgrade. If the original was $20, people would buy it at $20 just to get the upgrade. It's either this or not offer the option to upgrade to players with the original.
5:22 There are many physical copies available second-hand, which is why physical games are so important. Nintendo often gets away with higher prices, but we’re not talking about Nintendo right now. PlayStation has been selling Horizon for a very low price for years, expanding its market share by getting more people to play the game and potentially become fans. I’ve personally bought Horizon multiple times because I love the series. PlayStation even gave it away during the Play at Home initiative, so many people already own the game. PlayStation is now closing the loop, making it so you don’t have to spend $20 for the remastered version. For those who had the chance to buy it over the years, and for fans like me, I’ll be getting the physical copy and upgrade just because I love the game. For many who already own it, it’s just a $10 upgrade. The remastered price might eventually drop to $40, but since it looks better than a simple remaster, I don’t see it going below $30. If you want cheap games, waiting is always an option, especially if you’re not in a rush to play or if the game isn’t a must-have for you. That’s why Nintendo gets away with it people buy their games because they keep making the same games that people are familiar with. Off topic if you still reading this this is just for the trolls People making Horizon hate videos know they generate clicks, often driven by trolls. The sad truth is that genuine appreciation for games and the hard work behind them doesn’t generate as many clicks as hate content. I wish to see more people discussing games positively, rather than just making hate content. To be clear, I’m not saying this video is about hate. If you’ve been a troll, or even a victim of one, and are now doing the same by constantly criticizing, just remember when it’s your turn to create something, like a game, you’ll realize the immense effort it takes. You might find yourself facing the same kind of criticism that you help create, and that’s when you truly understand what it feels like.

Disagree on the ‘upgrades’ on the people models. They’ve put up an instagram filter. Aloy now wears makeup (ridiculous, lore wise), her face has changed and she now has tranny brows and the texture is gone from the outfits. The haptic feedback stuff is great, but hard pass on the rest.

This is totally wrong. This isn't a pricing ladder. They aren't trying to push base zero dawn customers into the remaster. They're closing an obvious price loophole where if you want the remaster and dont have the old game, you could buy the old game you dont want for cheap and just buy the $10 upgrade. No one is buying the old game specifically to play the old graphics. 99% of the people buying today are doing it to prep for the cheap upgrade ro remaster. So they changed the price, so you can't buy the remaster for less than $50 today.
HZD and the remake are worth the money. People now criticizing this price change either don’t care about HZD or aren’t overly bright. Guerrilla Games / Sony has been very generous with this game so far and even gave it away for free at some point during covid. They SHOULD ask money for what they have created. You are not even required to upgrade.
Was it totally wrong when they put it on sale for years, when they gave it away for free😂. If you do not have HZD a couple weeks ago afyer the countless sales and times they gave it away then you were never interested in it. Stop with this victimhood garbage.
This doesnt make sense, if you have the old game already you were only paying $10 anyway. How does buying a $20 version of the game to upgrade that create a loophole?
People, there are TONS of used copies out there. I picked one up at GameStop today for about 12 bucks and after my member discounts and coupons ended up spending less than 5.
They increased so you can't just buy the PS4 version for cheap and upgrade. If you never owned the game and want the remaster, you can spend $20 for the old version and then upgrade for $10. In total, you're only spending $30, which they do not like.
@@lockekappa500 I see that, i guess that's the issue with making a remaster so soon after it came out. If it was a full remake from a longer time ago they probably wouldn't have to offer an upgrade and could just sell it as a new game. They're kind of caught between a rock and a hard place.
The only thing I doubt is that this remaster is anything more than a graphical upgrade. They say "We're redoing the mo-cap and models" but A) it's not going to be anything they didn't already have on hand and B) any new mo-cap work is going to look indistinguishable from how it looked originally unless you put them side by side. It's literally just to justify charging for the game when it should be free to people that already own it
The price increase is absolutely warranted. Otherwise theyd need to price the remastered at 30. Anyone who has the game already can pay just 10. But it makes sense if the remastered is 50, the old version will be at 40.
They upped the price to prevent people from buying the old version for 20 and upgrading to the remaster for 10 dollars (30 dollars loophole for a 50 dollar game). It’s just simple math and business. Only other option was to price the remaster at 30 for new users. The game has been out for 7 years, not to mention, they gave the game out for free and are honoring free copies to upgrade for 10.

While keeping the original at $20 so people can buy the cheaper more affordable choices while those who want to upgrade can paid that full price amount they wanted?
I am in the small group that is quite eager to buy this remaster. I am hoping that the element that will be improved will be anti-aliasing. I have a Radeon and without DLAA it is poor. As a graphic designer, I also appreciate the lighting changes and better skin shaders. I just hope that it will not reflect heavily on performance and raise the hardware requirements.

How the PS store hasn't been sued for monopoly yet is beyond me. They have been doing this scummy practice for years now. They want everything routed through PS store and they rarely ever give discounts on the new games(even 4-5 year old games are sold at full price). And they increase prices arbitrarily. The PS5 sku is priced at $50. If they leave the PS4 SKU at $20 with $10 upgrade path then there will be no point on pricing the PS5 one at $50. Why $50, who knows, that's what their price scale determined.
Even a child can figure this a shiiit deal. Im say fukk nooo, and stop bending over.

2:54 Luke MS paint lecture

The sad truth is that genuine appreciation for games and the hard work behind them doesn’t generate as many clicks as hate content. That’s the Concord tax 😂
Same thing happened to Space Marine btw, they inflated the first games price insanely high right before SM2 dropped.
They increased so you can't just buy the PS4 version for cheap and upgrade. If you never owned the game and want the remaster, you can spend $20 for the old version and then upgrade for $10. In total, you're only spending $30, which they do not like.
Yeah but why is the assumption that they intend on selling the remaster for more than $10? TLOU2 didn't.
Why didn't they just increase the upgrade price then?
@@williamschubert4819 I guess the argument is that for some people who DID pay full price for it, a higher upgrade price would be even more unfair.
@@lockekappa500 I see that, i guess that's the issue with making a remaster so soon after it came out. If it was a full remake from a longer time ago they probably wouldn't have to offer an upgrade and could just sell it as a new game. They're kind of caught between a rock and a hard place.
Another point is to have a physical copy of the game f uck digital games that are priced 100% after 4 years and more
The only thing I doubt is that this remaster is anything more than a graphical upgrade.
@@godloared lol don’t know why this is so hard to understand
They upped the price to prevent people from buying the old version for 20 and upgrading to the remaster for 10 dollars (30 dollars loophole for a 50 dollar game). It’s just simple math and business. Only other option was to price the remaster at 30 for new users. The game has been out for 7 years, not to mention, they gave the game out for free and are honoring free copies to upgrade for 10.
Gamers who missed a massively wide window of opportunity (6 years to be exact) to buy Zero Dawn now want to bitch about the price increase, because Sony reevaluated their asset. Don’t be a Karen!
@@GamingPoetsSociety bruh it had to be a slow reporting day because Luke should have known better than to post this nonsense. Like the game was free and nobody batted an eye at it. So now Sony tries to make some extra money on it while closing a $30 upgrade loophole that many customers would have used and they’re being slimy?! Trust big companies do a lot of slimy shit but this ain’t it.
I actually appreciate the remastered version. It's been 7 years since I played it on 30fps on the ps4. I want to try it again with better Aloy face on a PC
Zero Dawn had been at $10 for a long time. And they had given it away for free. So you can't really be calling Sony greedy when maybe 20%-30% of Zero Dawn owners got it for free.
Idk what Sony should have done. Raise the price of the OG or delist the OG and only have the Remaster available
Exactly this video is super weird, seems like he's just bitching for content
@@rtuumm ah yes delisting editing content. You will own nothing and be happy. Are you buying the latest failure of gaming: DRAGQUEEN AGE: THE DEIGUARD?
@@JohnDman2020 what are you even saying here and who are you talking to?
Are you ok?
I got physical og and complete. Enough is enough.
Glad I bought the physical version used for about 6 bucks, no scratches, looking good as new.
We are also whining about a game hardly anyone is actually going to be playing through, because everyone complained and said it was a remaster no one asked for.
So honestly, how many are even gonna pay the $10 upgrade, and how many are going to buy the PS5 Remaster?
I can't blame them. I went for a new PS4 disc of HFW for 19.99 USD at Walmart because the PS5 disc was 69.99, and it came with a free PS5 upgrade.
This 10 dollar upgrade is for players that already invested in the game, as a reward they only pay 10 to upgrade. Its not for folks that never had interest in the game since its release and now all of a sudden heard about the upgrade and wanna go buy the game just so they can upgrade for 10. Idk what some of you folks complaining about. The 10 dollar upgrade is fan service.
"Idk what some of you folks complaining about." We're complaining that they doubled the price of the non-remastered version , like complete fucking slimeballs.
Another example as to why physical media is so important
Can pick up HZD for £5 theb pay a £10 upgrade fee with a disc copy.
Imagine blaming Xbox for Sony’s greed because they are not competitive enough.
Do you not understand how that works? Nintendo is "greedy" as well because it has no competion. Zelda TOTK launched at $70 dollars for no explanation as to why AND ITS STILL 70$. Nintendos exclusives barely go on sale because they have no competitors. Do you see how that works. Competion drives the price down.
I am not talking about the competition but the blaming of competitor’s greediness due to other company’s struggling business and it is common sense in basic economics that competition is good and it is just sad that consumers suffers due to the lack of it.
@@LeviAckerman-lb3zrNo you’re deflecting from the reality to feel good about your life choices but you do you
@@bdizzle9586 WTH are you talking about? 🤣 Don't tell me this is about the fanboys console war again and I am Xbot fans to trying to feel good of my choices of buying a console of my choice is that it?
@@LeviAckerman-lb3zr No, you are also talking about competition, its literally apart of your point lol. Nice gaslight attempt, critical miss lol.
Witcher and Cyberpunk did the same…
Aaand Horizon was literally given for free to everyone during the pandemic, and the $10 upgrade works for that aswell.
The game was at that low price for a very long time. Everybody could get it cheap. No reason to cry on the internet now. Keeping the price low would create a loophole regarding the fact that HZR will be €50. Anyone here would do the same if it were their business. Seems hypocritical to criticise Sony for it. We will see, if physical gets also more expensive. I would think so.
I mean they had to raise the price if they offered the upgrade. Other wise you could just buy the upgrade for 20 bucks
Not really slimy when you consider that in the years since launch the game has been anywhere from deeply discounted to free.
The upgrade is 10 bucks and anyone who says there are not 10 bucks worth of improvements is being disingenuous.
I disagree on this take Luke.
The upgrade is worth $10, thats fine
But then the game is worth $30 not $50
Sony pulling a ROCKSTAR.
Well, if I recall correctly, this worked for ROCKSTAR with GTA V as well.
They would increase the price of GTA V on Steam ahead of the Steam Summer Sale, then drop it back during the Sale, to make it look like they actually dropped the prices for the Summer Sale, when they, in fact, have just reajusted the price back to what it was a month prior.
So shady.
Guerrilla Games so gun ho with the Strong Independent women that they forgot the game that put them on the map..... *"KILLZONE"* (Remakes would have been great) seems alot of soy boy's and feminist are running Sony and Guerrilla.
Killzone wasn't doing so great near the end.
If you own the disc version of horizon can you get the upgrade???
sony really is on a bad run
I got horizon zero dawn in november 2018 for about $20. 6 years ago, it was hard copy too. That game's graphics still holds up. Sony's slowly turning into nvidia and apple with their practices and pricing stategies
Is not even that good of a game
that is your opinion horizon zero dawn is actually a really good game as far as i am concerned. as far as not wanting to pay full price for it you have the option of waiting years for a sale if you want too.however buying it at full price does show sony that people are interested in these types of remasters witch i most defiantly am.i have already bought the game on steam years ago so i will be getting the upgrade for 10 dollars. also them upping the price too 50 dollars makes sense so people cant buy the game for cheaper than go the 10 dollar upgrade path.
people that were interested in the original game should already have a copy in their steam libraries.
Ikr.
Both of the games are sitting close to a 90% on metacritic with 32+ million lifetime sales for the franchise. You may not like it but clearly other people do lol.
@@Thanosdidtherighthingthis is me, I like it lol
it's a good game and the AI adapts to your moves/attacks.
the only noticeable bad thing iirc are the characters
Doubled the price and took Forbidden West off of Plus the same day. And I was actually playing it
@@MeggaMann_theBlueLion lmao imagine them having it on PS+ for over a year close to 2 years and then removing it clearly to make a little profit off it and there’s someone like you out there whining about it. You had since last year to play and beat it, get over it
Thank god I bought it on deep sale for $10 3-4 months ago. Haven’t had a chance to play it yet. Just got a ps5 last December so I’m still working through a bunch of ps4 games
Back in the day i used to praise sony for their dedication to quality and the user experience.
Apparently those guys dont work at Sony anymore.
Yikes! I'm glad I bought it back in March 2022 (just after I bought my PS5) when Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition was on sale for $9.99 (US).
At this point games not remastered are going to turn into collectible relics
They raised the price to $40 because offering a $10 upgrade from the original to the remastered version would have made it easy for everyone to buy the original for $20 and then pay the extra $10, getting the remaster for just $30 instead of $50, effectively saving $20. But why call this slimy? If you originally bought the game for $20, this is a great deal-you're only paying $10 for a full remaster, which is a fantastic upgrade for a small price. This isn't shocking or scummy.
Sony is trying so hard to be in the shoes of Apple right now, with the whole "pristine" look of their new marketing stuff and the obnoxious pricing. It's really disgusting.
A remaster for a game that’s not even 10 years old is wild. HZD still looks gorgeous.
So can just buy the PlayStation hits version and the pay the upgrade?
I played the game for about 2 hours on pc and convinced myself I'm going to play it again after I was done playing cyberpunk, hogwarts and at least a dozen games. I'm not convinced I'll be playing it anytime soon even with better graphics. I can't even put into words why I'm not excited to spend hours on this title.
Ngl i feel real happy i got it on ps+ a few years ago and never played it...£10 for a remaster is a steal, playstation are well and truly showing their true colours this year though thats for sure.
Does anyone know how to tell if you actually bought the base game or if the version you have is the ps plus subscription version. I have the game, But i cant remmeber if I bought it or not.
People keep bringing up the $10 dollar upgrade for the remastered but what I wonder why couldn't they charge $30 to match the price of buying the full remastered? While keeping the original at $20 so people can buy the cheaper more affordable choices while those who want to upgrade can paid that full price amount they wanted?
The gaming industry as a whole is terrible right now, I hope it gets back to the way it use to be
I bought the complete edition on steam for 7 dollars back when a sale was going on
I am in the small group that is quite eager to buy this remaster. I am hoping that the element that will be improved will be anti-aliasing. I have a Radeon and without DLAA it is poor. As a graphic designer, I also appreciate the lighting changes and better skin shaders. I just hope that it will not reflect heavily on performance and raise the hardware requirements.
I can’t imagine it working though. This thing came out in 2017. Everyone that wants it would have bought it long before now. And for those that somehow just discovered this game, I doubt they’d want to spend $50 on a game from like 8 years ago
This is why I hate a digital only world. Also, I bet resellers start buying up all the Horizon Zero Dawn copies from GameStop, then reselling them for $50.
I have had so many people tell me that Sony is consumer friendly and they are keeping physical media alive. This entire last year has completely proven that false and I feel vindicated in my hate for them and telling people for years Sony was going to go this way.
