Lexus was smart to make the RC when it was first introduced, they needed a sub-hundred-grand GT coupe and used extra parts from the IS, ES, and GS to develop this. Problem with the RCF Track Edition was that it’s not focused enough to be a track car. The carbon fiber panels barely shaved off any weight and it still keeps most of the luxury bits from the RC 350. The V8 is also pretty underpowered compared to the competition. For 100k, this is encroaching Porsche GT4 territory and the GT4 is simply a way more focused track car. It’s still a pretty damn good GT car. However, if I wanted a GT car from Lexus, I’d rather buy the LC500 for nearly the same price.
This is a compact coupe. Its based on the IS and uses all the bin parts from that car. Its got nothing from an ES which is an entirely different platform and I doubt it shares anything more than an anecdotical percentage of parts with the GS which is a different segment. Interior, tech, powertrain, all comes from the IS. Thats also one of the reasons its so heavy and uninspired performance wise. The IS was designed with the hybrid powertrain in mind and very little thought was put into weight balance or chasis stiffness for performance applications. You cant always reinforce a car to handle the power the performance segment needs. Thats why they didnt even bother into making the is500 into a performace version and instead just went with the "zen" approach of just making it a sleeper V8.

@@person.w9780 I disagree. The current problem is that you're essentially paying a premium for a car with performance not befitting its price tag and design language. However, price being equal or even undercutting its competition (as lexus was originally intended to do), then the choice becomes far more subjective and preferential. Generally speaking, no true F car has ever preformed head and shoulders above its competition on a track.

I love the RCF on the strength of it's style and reliability alone. This is also the only "pony car" from the far east which demands respect. However, the Camaro SS 1LE, Mustang Mach 1, BMW M2, & Cayman GT4 offer much more for far less money. Stingers & Q60s can be modded past the RCF for less than $2000. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If performance is #1 on your list then it isn't the right car for you. Most RCF owners buy the car for Rarity,Reliability, and a badass N/A V8 in a Luxury car.
@@Zelow. Except, theres barely any luxury on it... As for rarity, yes, if we only take into account the model spec itself, but otherwise, interior, design, looks? Typical run of the mill Lexus... You only got left reliability. And yeah, theres no discussion there. The chances of it being reliable are high, but the myths around Lexus' reliability is overblown... They do have their share of problems and numerous recalls. Their hybrid batteries do tend to go off on 100k for example, and replacing them costs thousands.

I bought a 2020 RCF and got it for around $68k. For what it is, it's awesome! I never looked at a car like an m3/4 or anything of that nature. I don't want something that is fast in a straight line or take to a track... I want a comfortable cruiser that is typical lexus/toyota reliability and when I put my foot down I hear the 8 cylinder. As cool as the Track edition or Fuji edition is, it's to my not worth $100k... or at least I would not spend that much for this vehicle. I'd look at a Porsche no questions. IF however they would have bumped up the power by 100hp for the track edition and done some other stuff it might be more worth it... I love the CF even though it looks boy ricer to me in certain areas, but you can't get past the fact it's the same engine, same body style and overall same infotainment..etc, and or actually LESS options for the car, and paying more. I LOVE the CCB but that can be changed for two piece rotors at a later time. The all red interior is way too much for me. It's typical lexus styling gone too far. It looks tacky and when I sat in one at the dealer when I was buying mine it was overwhelming the amount of red inside. I LOVE my rcf though. But I would never buy the track edition... just way too expensive for what you are getting.
Already got a Lotus for that performance role, this I am getting as an ultimate long term ownership GT. F gives you soul, Germans are precise and high end but sterile and generic.
@@chris-andrebrissett5208 I ask myself that for pretty much any Lexus out there... with the exception of the LC500, which is only because the car looks so unique and beautiful inside and out. When you break down what the LC actually is (same NA V8 as the RC F) and include the dated and horrible infotainment, lack of interior controls locked behind that infotainment and cancerous touchpad, combined with poorly located controls (EG drive modes on the dashboard), the LC500 is grossly overpriced as well. I want an amazing JDM car to cherish... but you're going to overpay for something that's significantly lesser than pretty much all of it's competition in both performance and technology. I mean look at the GTR- it's an ancient and grossly overpriced for what's a 16 year old car... but at least it performs well (albeit no longer the best in class that it once was). I think JDM manufacturers are overly calculating and too afraid to take any risks, so they rarely come out with anything impressive and cling to reliability in using dated, proven technology instead... a philosophy which I believe falls short in the luxury/high end performance markets.
You missed the point as most RUclipsrs. Its dead reliable and won't cost anything to maintain. BMW is a nightmare to keep running. The RCF is a hidden gem, and those who know, know
🤦🤦 Extremely stupid comment. I cant understand how people constantly believe the stupid myths behind BMW reliability. Yes some gens like the e90s were unreliable. Otherwise BMW are solid. Especially modern ones which are very reliable. The reason old BMWs are horrible to maintain is because take an e39. Thats a in 2000 a nearly 90,000 dollar sedan. Yet it was bought in 2015 for 15,000 dollars by a 17 year old who had a networth of 5k and borrowed the rest from friends and family. He then goes and drives it like a maniac with no money for even the most basic maintanace. People then are surprised its unreliable. No it was poorly maintained. A new BMW is a very reliable Car if its maintained as it was intended. It wont cause you any problems. Stop being stupid.
The RC F has a market out there for daily drivers, but I'm not sure who this "Track Edition" is for at its price bracket. There are just way better performance options out there.
You can buy a low mileage 2015 rcf for like $45k, that’s a steal for that price IMO. These have proven to be very reliable cars and gets 28 mpg on the highway.
Brand new its definitely not worth the money, but on the used market the prices become much more reasonable and you don't have to worry that its got milage on it cause its still a lexus
I have a small belief, whether someone mentioned it or not, that the traction control might have not been turned off all the way which was the issue with sliding. Could've went above and beyond and did the pedal dance but that's not well known. Great videos, I wish you guys could review an ISF, much nicer than the IS 500.
I think Lexus did a really good job with the overall styling of this vehicle because while it may not be the best looking, it is certainly unique. However, where this vehicle lacks is just how dated it is compared the the M4 and C63. Granted, some people like the analog and mechanical feel of Lexus V8s, but when you look at the interiors of the LS and UX and see that this vehicle is still rocking an interior from its debut leaves little to be desired. We all know that manual transmissions are going the way of the dodo, but if Lexus gave this thing a manual and the new ES interior, I feel it would be enough to keep this vehicle at lease relevant in its class. If they don't do this, they should just make the vehicle electric and get a head start in a different category becuase clearly Lexus is too lazy to make a innovative product and are resting on their laurels.
You have it wrong. When Lexus makes brand new technology, they keep the car and test it for another 24 months until the tech is a little stale, but fully worked out.
@@incomingincoming1133Mercedes used to do that for ten years before the Toyota thieves started knocking off German designs w Camry parts bin cars.. LS400 a great car but let's wreck one into an S500 of the same era and see who walks away
You lease a German marque, you buy a Lexus. I've owned one BMW and it was a hoot. It was a driver's car, until it became a 'take it to the shop' car for the things that started to go south. I currently drive a GS350 and other than replacing the battery and wear parts like wipers, it's only seen the shop for service. Lease German, buy Lexus.
As a current RCF owner I can say with almost certainty that it is fast enough for day to day use. Mine has PPE EL headers, Invidia catback, and recently got it tuned by Loi and it feels proper quick car. For someone who has always owned BMWs, and VW I can't say anything bad against the European cars, but if you want reliability, and a car that is not a dime a dozen then RCF should be high on your list.
I really liked the original RCF when it came out around 2015, the performance numbers at the time were good and it was kind of like a modern Supra (at least in purpose) and the price wasn't too bad. Alas time has gone on and it didn't receive any meaningful updates to the base trim. Off topic that outro was hilarious. XD

Such a nice way to start my day watching throttle house. This car is beautiful.
I have a feeling we'll look back on these more fondly simply for the fact it's an NA V8 and it'll last till the end of time. I have no idea if that'll be reflected in the prices, though.

Costs almost the same as a GT-R. No thanks. Regular RC F is fine
Stg I’ll reduce my own weight
Can’t you make this from the RC-F for little to $2k? I Ike the RC platform but this doesn’t need to exist for such a high price
@@chris-andrebrissett5208 carbon ceramic brakes aren't 2k and neither are light panels. however, 100tw tires on a regular RC F would probably net a faster hotlap
It's a great car, just priced out of being truly competitive.
Even of it was priced competitively, it's still lacking. All it really has going for it is the NA V8.
@@person.w9780 Yep if I were to get the V8, get the LC500 or IS500 since they prioritize luxury over performance which is why they aren’t F cars. I don’t want a performance oriented car that falls flat on performance.
I’d rather get this as a used car. I’m pretty sure it would be a bag for your buck used but 100k for this considering the price is a no for most.
@@chris-andrebrissett5208 just buy an original, pre-facelift RC F and do some minor suspension mods. Less than half the price, just as solid thanks to the build quality and you even get your choice of TVD or Torsen.

Since finding you guys channel......I have been star struck by the great cars, high cognitive knowledge and a awesome friendship. Keep up the great work!!!!
Well, idk if it’s really a bad purchase. I think it’ll be a collectors car in it’s tiny niche and reliable too. That doesn’t take away from the fact that it is still heavy and doesn’t keep up with the Germans as well either, but it’s Lexus and it’s a limited edition run, a very special car that practically no one would want to buy.
Man I do really like these Lexus V8’s. They are super unique.
These will be the last of them, next year they will be switching to 4.0TT V8
@@saltyfloridaman7163 good comment /s, lol, always love when someone debates a subjective opinion. Next time post something worth-while. To me it is very unique especially in the way it sounds. I never said the build is a unique engineering masterpiece; simply that the characteristics are unique. I don’t even really like V8’s in general unless they rev high or sound more European, they all sound soulless and anti-climatic.

Throttle House is becoming one of my favorite channels on the roaster 🔥 They’re absolutely killin’ it!
I'm a Lexus die hard fan, I genuinely wish from the bottom of my heart that Lexus would make a proper sport car with a proper price !!
Hope they make somethin light with gr86 platform
They need to add forced induction to the v8 to give it the power it needs and they need to lighten the car up some more.
@@theyhatehimbecausehetoldth7576 This means no V8 with forced induction then. If it is light, it will definitely not be able to deliver on the V8.
This car would be fine for that it if was cheaper, the RC should not be matching prices with the LC
I can't wait for the V-Blackwings to drop...
It's a pretty car not gonna lie, and it sounds fantastic!
Unfortunately if I had that kind of money, there are several cars I'd rather get. I think that's truly the crux of the issue, it's not a bad car at all, just that there are better options in that price range.
YES FINALLY! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE RCF
Nothing better then Lexus , this car has some secrets that only the Lexus big fans knows, I love it so much ❤
As a Lexus owner, I would still fall for the Classic Alfa and start looking around 😂
Love the RC-F track addition 🔥🔥🔥
But I'll have to stay content with my RC350 F-Sport 😊
I think the only way I'd buy this car is if I lived close to a road course. But even then it's still pretty pricey. Gorgeous though.
Throttle House is the Top Gear that does Top Gear better than modern Top Gear
A hundred grand will get you the mother of all Ultimas. You want a track edition car then get something that's built for the track from the ground up.
Well said
I can appreciate that this is the most focused RC-F ever. It's not a track car, despite the name, but it is cool and sounds great.
It does not sound great. An AMG C63 sounds a lot better. And it’s certainly not cool! I would feel like a fool if I bought this!
@@Fluterra Well luckily, nobody is forcing you to buy it. And I personally think the RC-F sounds better than the Merc but thats just me I guess :)
Thank you for calling out the Lexus crap. Paying Porsche 911 money for a Camry Solara is stupid.
To me, this is a modern E92 M3, which is why I absolutely love it.
naturally aspirated v8 for the track producing almost 500 hp, you could get the same thing in a mustang gt for 1/3 of the price, that's why it doesn't sell.
The Mustang's interior, build quality and reliability does not compare to the Lexus.
James is getting much better at analyzing the cars! He could be the next Top Gear host with the way he says aluminum!

should do a “cheap car challenge” or something of the like. Bring old school Top Gear style back!
I come back here periodically just to watch the outro 5x in a row.
Brand new zl1 1le hellcat redeye c8 corvette borderline gt500 shelby price almost brand new base GTR New Toyota supra soo many more options for much less money
You can even buy a zl1 and turn it into a exorcist and it would be around 100k
You could buy both a C8 and a SS 1LE together for less.
If performance is #1 on your list then it isn't the right car for you. Most RCF owners buy the car for Rarity,Reliability, and a badass N/A V8 in a Luxury car.

I love this car entirely and always will, with that said they still need to drop another 150lbs and give it over 500hp..the conpetition is so far ahead ....with that said these do have good top end power and sound incredible
RC F with an exhaust is an unforgettable sound.
Love the way it looks
I watch this evertime it's recommended to me for the last minute of the video
Delivering lines like a pro !
Cheers guys, nice video, excellent shots
"If you want that naturally aspirated v8 coupe" just get a mustang for half the price - that comes with ventilated and heated seats.
true, and even if you wanted an RC-F get a used low mile 2016 or 2017 with near the same performance for 40-50g less. this edition makes 0 sense
I love Lexus but damn 100k for what exactly? Why does it have to be that much?

I'm thinking Lexus won't be letting you guys get your hands on any of their cars again soon. Well done for telling it like it is.
Our Lexus reps are total legends, and will totally understand.
They still get Mercedes...even after the, uh, butt plug incident.
Lexus should make electric cars, they only have a bunch of boring hybrids
You have it wrong. When Lexus makes brand new technology, they keep the car and test it for another 24 months until the tech is a little stale, but fully worked out.

You guys are great. That ending was hilarious 😂
I really liked the original RCF when it came out around 2015, the performance numbers at the time were good
