Maybe because of these special vocals. The singer doesn't look anywhere near as I've imagined him - something like Pee-wee Herman, maybe with a touch of Boy George style, or wearing colourful Rastacap . 8D
Always my go to when I need cheering up this and tin planet. Masterpieces of the ages! I went to see them just before covid and honestly it was like reliving the 90s.
Jesus this song hasn't aged a day! Reminds me of the 90s without sounding stuck in that decade. The drumbeats, production, lyrics all sound really fresh. Classic quirky pop like only the British can make.
Man o man bless youtube. I'd forgotten this absolute gem. Im watching a youtube playlist tonight, 'The Ultimate Britpop Playlist' and this was on it. 189 records on this playlist and im working through it. Its gonna be good.
Just seen Space at Sefton Park, Liverpool, 31 August, and they were absolutely brilliant. Big crowd, lots of dancing feet. They still put a smile on my face and they have a new single coming out.
Hi everyone! I'm from Poland and it's a first time I heard this song in Nation Radio in Cardiff. I have asked one of the guys who work in this radio about this song, gave him time I was listening and I got the answer from Ben Evans! Now I know the band and I love this song, it' just great! I can understand also why you people so exciting with your comments...
I always loved this song since it was first released over 20 years ago. I didin't noticed until just now, the lead singer looks A LOT like Richard Ramirez.
My oh my, I'd forgotten this classic,,, and I'm a Scouser, oh the shame. Was watching Homes Under the Hammer and this accompanied one of the upgrades 😊👍
When 'space' brought out neighbourhood, they should have immediately have become equals to oasis and blur.. it shows how paths can change with talent not being the decider.. really is bein in the right place....
Not sure why you thought this! they was pretty popular and this album went to number 5 in UK album charts, which in the 90's was impressive as so many great bands/albums about
Who lives in a house like this? Who lives in a house like this? In number 69 there lives a transvestite He's a man by day but he's a woman at night There's a man in number 4 who swears he's Saddam Hussein Says he's on the chart to start a Third World War Oh if you find the time please come and stay a while In my beautiful neighbourhood At a hundred and ten they haven't paid the rent So there goes the TV with the repo men In 999 they make a living from crime The house is always empty 'cause they're all doing time Oh if you find the time please come and stay a while In my beautiful neighbourhood, my neighbourhood My, my, my beautiful neighbourhood, my neighbourhood My, my, my beautiful neighbourhood Who lives in a house like this? In number 18 there lives a big butch queen He's bigger than Tyson and he's twice as mean In 666 there lives a Mr. Miller He's our local vicar and a serial killer Oh if you find the time please come and stay a while In my beautiful neighbourhood, my neighbourhood My, my, my beautiful neighbourhood, my neighbourhood My, my, my beautiful neighbourhood Who lives in a house like this? Who lives in a house like this? They want to knock us down 'cause they think we're scum But we will all be waiting when the bulldozers come In a neighbourhood like this you know it's hard to survive So you'd better come prepared 'cause they won't take us alive Oh if you find the time please come and stay a while In my beautiful neighbourhood, my neighbourhood My, my, my beautiful neighbourhood, my neighbourhood My, my, my beautiful neighbourhood
there was a amazing remix of this that was played on pete tongs radio one essential collection, but i have never been able to find it since.. it was on a cd.
Space are brilliant that distinct sound and down to earth music and the lyrics, that everyone can recognise within there little neighbourhoods' pure nostalgia. From a happy 59 year old fan. Glad to here they are still going strong,
Saw them last night, at Fruit club in Hull. They were absolutely brilliant! Really knew how to get the crowd going, playing their classics and a few of the songs from their upcoming album! I felt a bit odd to be the youngest there, though, by at least 10 years!
I remember listening to these guys back in highschool. Lol. I lived in Illinois at the time. I'm just now looking them up and realizing they were a French group and from the 70s n 80s. Lol. At the time I thought they were just sum new group that came out in the mid nineties.
They are neither French nor from the 70s/80s. They were from the 90s and are British, Scouse if you want to get more specific. Yes there was a group from France with that name, but it is not even the first result when I look up the name of the band.
@@Dermacrosis Spot on, someone else thought they were Welsh, Believe me, I'm 65 and know my stuff, Liverpool have had many fantastic bands come from there over the decades. great song great sound.should have called this song... beautiful neighbourhood.the mid 90s had a lot of good sounds.better than the popular squeals of today.
Always loved this tune; sticks in your head, sounds ace and the lyrics are funny. Listening back on music from yesteryear it sounds even better than it did when it was first released. This song is a protest stand against the present surrounding us. More and more actual day by day. The musicians seem to no it expressing it with enormous strength. (ever young)
Forgotten gems 💎 space homegrown Merseyside ❤❤
Of all the bands in Liverpool in the 90s, this was one of them.
Truly one of the songs too
@@derpleyewif you compare this song to all the rest of the songs, it's definitely in there.

Whenever anyone talks about Britpop they seem to forget Space. I dunno why- such a great band!

To be honest, these guys were never really accepted by the Britpop elite, their stuff's way too irreverent and eclectic for such a petty label.
Maybe because of these special vocals. The singer doesn't look anywhere near as I've imagined him - something like Pee-wee Herman, maybe with a touch of Boy George style, or wearing colourful Rastacap . 8D
011redruM110 not me Butt. Who lives here mann?.
011redruM110 hahaha space worse band there was better bands than these one hit wonders
This is one unique band
One of the best songs of the 90's. That keyboard break is sinister brilliance, and I forgot about the Cheech & Chong sample. Love this!
Who lives here man?
Tommy has an awesome, distinctive voice with a lot of range. You always knew it was a Space song.
the lyrics to this are amazing :') so glad my parents played good music in the car growing up lol

Love this group and their spiders album, brings back lots of memories of my high school days
Great album , still sounds amazing today
had the pleasure of working with Andy Parle in the studio in '96 - totally great guy R.I.P.
I only found out he passed about 5 years ago. Poor soul
from the first listen when it came out, to even now, 'spiders' is a perfect album.
