Last heard this song when I was 17! I’m now 41. Been trying to find this song FOREVER and it started playing on my sisters playlist while on her canal boat! Almost fell off with excitement! Teenage MEMORIES returned!
oh come on man. please don't remind me. gosh i am 7 olders than u. its been a long day of working under the sun putting up a good show, done everything and sneaked a joint while listening to this and forgot everything. i was enjoying the comments until i read urs that snapped me out of it reminding me that i am not 22 anymore. LOL God. when am i going to grow up. LOLOL all the best there. cheers!
Sometimes I find myself singing “I have never thrown my knickers at you.....and I don’t come from Wales” randomly when I’m just walking about the house
Just saw this on TOTP 2. Haven’t heard this since 2000. Just listening to this both elates me and depresses me, elates me in that it is a song that always made me happy, but depresses me in that not not only will something like this never come again, but also how great the 90s truly were. The 21st century for the most part has truly sucked.
When I was in high school, maybe 15 or 16 years old, I used to have the national radio station on in the background while I'm chilling or studying. I would record some songs that I liked on cassette tapes. Something like a mix tape. There was this one song that caught my attention and it used to be played quite frequently at one point. But somehow I never recorded the full song and finally when I did think of recording it, it was towards the end of the song. After that the radio station never played that song ever again. And I never heard that song ever played anywhere. It bothered me for so many years that I couldn't identify or ever hear that song again. But with that short clip recorded on the cassette tape, about fifteen years later, I converted the cassette audio to digital format. Yet with that short clip I still couldn't use apps like Shazam to identify the song. Every few years, I'll have the song playing in my mind and get really annoyed I couldn't find out who the artist was. The part that stuck in my mind the most was the chorus and the haunting background humming. Also that it was a duet. Today my mind went back to the song again and I decided to try the short clip that I recorded but with Google voice assistant. Or specifically Google sound search. After just 1 try it identified it! It was this song! Oh man the memory of my teenage years started pouring out while listening to it. What's funny was the chorus part that has been playing in my mind for 25 years years which I thought was mysterious and with powerful vocals was just "I could never throw my knickers at you...And I don't come from Wales". Lol. Brilliant song composition with somewhat sad and humorous lyric. I feel like I can die in peace now.
I used to love Space back in the late 90's as well as Catatonia. I remember when I first heard this song. It was epic back then and still is now in my opinion.
they are still very nice comparing to what they have out there nowadays. the dont make good stupid nice songs like such anymore. hey there. live long and prosper bro.
ppl were into heavier stuff then, mostly stuff like foo fighters and soundgarden. back in the day only hardcore stoner kids listens to such stuff. i dunno if those poppy yuppies listen to this or not, only weird people knows and listen to this. i think it is the same in America too. its just too weird for some.
@@charmedrools1 Agreed, I get OP but for example Bob Dylan was an average singer. Great musician. Amazing writer. Autotune was kinda made for the Bob Dylans of this world. Imagine you practice playing a song ten times every day for a year, that's 3650 renditions of varying quality. What's the odds that the best rendition is even caught in a studio? Now because of the importance placed on song writing - imagine it's an indefinitely evolving song. So not only is every rendition varying in quality, but also now in content. The whole concept of musical production isn't necessarily tied to instrumental ability [voice in this case] and vice-versa - good production and studio work makes a good product, good talent makes a good musician. Sorry for the ramble. Not saying it's fact, or hijacking your words. Just my perspective.
Practically no-one mentions the genius of Tommy Scott and Space. They wrote the song. Tommy Scott is deserving to be mentioned just as much (or more) as Lee Mavers from The La's is. What a great creator of mood Scott is. Classic quirky romantic Liverpudlian.
Amazing band! Sophisti-pop was already fading fast from the charts towards the end of the 90s, today it is almost non-existent, following the general dumbing down of society. You really have to dig deep these days...
Damn right, been listening to them all day today and it really hit me how much of a great songwriter he is, I think people struggle to appreciate wry lyrics and well written music as though they're mutually exclusive. but you've hit the nail on the head, he creates mood, and even the twiddly excesses of 90's production can't ruin them. I think it's aged better than lots, mainly because he knows how to write a bridge and a chorus.
That line was directed at Tom Jones to follow her "i would never throw my knickers at you" which was also directed at Tom Jones because back in the day at concerts women used to throw their knickers on stage. They're appreciative of him despite Space not being welsh and Cerys not excited enough to throw her knickers at him.

Seen Space play in the O2 in Liverpool. They were absolutely amazing, loved all the nostalgic songs. They were that good I want to see them again when they come to Liverpool in December!!
Brings me back to living in London in 1999. I spent my spare time hitting the record shops looking for Catherine Wheel, Spiritualized, and slowdive records. Picked up this single while I was there...
Why every time I heard the bass line of this song at the chorus part makes my spine tingles! There is magic in this song! Pure genius work of art! Space
I saw them at the old courts in wigan in 2019 and I will see them there and in hull and maybe some other places this year. They are brilliant. I have liked their music since I was 12 years old in 1996.
Just wanted to add that there is a video of space performing this at the old courts in wigan in 2019 and someone throws some knickers at tommy and the band stop singing the song and start again and then someone throws knickers at tommy again and they get stuck to tommy's guitar and he carries on playing. It's very funny.
Saw Space in December 2016 at the Arts Club in Liverpool..after they played this song..and it went quiet i just had the urge to shout out "Yaki Da"..to which Tommy Scott laughed out loud and said..."Nice One"...it makes me laugh thinking about it now! Great band and Tommy seems a really nice person.
He's absolutely lovely. I accidentally met him at Isle of Wight festival in 2016- it was literally the happiest moment ever. I'd been to see Space earlier that day and i ran into him and his daughter- he was so lovely and such a gentleman ♥️
Hilarious, spot-on lyrics. And they're quite right about Tom Jones. Listening to Tom Jones puts out any thoughts of killing anyone in mind when I'm having a bad day, be it myself or others.

First heard this song because of the Q Magazine compilation CD from the late 90s. That was an awesome compilation with Blur, Pulp, Spiritualized, Primal Scream and er Robbie Williams.

This is a classic 👌 whenever I meet someone or someone says they're part Welsh or someone is going/been to Wales me like someone with tourettes automatically says 'I don't come from Wales""😂😂😂
I had completely forgotten about this song, I’ve just heard it on the radio for first in 25 years. ❤
Vernon Kay Radio 2? That's exactly my story! How do we forget these great songs? Why do they fall off our radar?
@@joshtheatmosphereean7079 Yes that’s exactly where I heard it 👍
YEY !
Ain't it just the best XX
Same apart from the radio

Forever young ✌️
The writer had the best sense of humour all the songs cracked me up. Space were on another planet.
They were out of this world !
They were way ahead of their time. Light years, in fact! 🥁
"Neighbourhood" is an amazing song!
A tin planet❤
The late 90s and early 2000's.... music just like NO other! Im 43 and remember this at 18 years old! 😂😂. Like it was last week
Sometimes I find myself singing “I have never thrown my knickers at you.....and I don’t come from Wales” randomly when I’m just walking about the house
lmao my god i thought it was just me that did that, lol
How did you know I did the same - but in my car !
lol, i sing it aloud on the street, thats why they locked me up
It's the rasp in her voice that gets me but I'm not here to judge.. pretty good track hey
Saaaaame 🤣🤣🤣
Unreal lyrics. Unreal melody. Brill8ant vocals. Video is so clever to tie in to the song too. Massively under-rated tune ❤

Time for a shuffle 👋 x in the future ❤ 👌 and I hope you're ok
I know at least we have the memories TOMMY AND CERYS AMAZING
I’ve been sad and depressed since 1470
I don't reminisce about anything past the year 2000
i think this is a bit of a meatloaf parody, we are missing certain ingredients for the music rennaisance
I remember this song. Tom Jones must have been touched by this song.
Well, Tom did invite the lead onto his audience with
Cerys was such a badass, brilliant voice too. I loved Space & Catatonia, brilliant era for music in the UK.

i dunno if those poppy yuppies listen to this or not, only weird people knows and listen to this.

its just too weird for some.
I want to see the alternative history where this is even a minor hit in America...
Space are playing in my hometown in January and my guitar teacher and his band are supporting them. Definitely need to go and see that!
And did you go in the end.
Hope you did. I saw them about 7-8 years ago - one of the best gigs I've ever been to, oddly. Just cos they were so good live!
Melody wise, this is a masterpiece! The chord sequence leading to the chorus is just fkn perfect 👌.. brings a tear to me eye, love it
i dont know man i love the lyrics, they don't write lyrics like this anymore.
@@MrNajibrazak I hear ya … lyrics are razor sharp and they’re sung with feeling too

Oh god yes, forgot how much I loved that hollering of "I've never thrown my knickers at you!" 😁
Always loved this track, back in the days when bands actually wrote their own music and could sing without autotune :)
bonjovi used to lipsync live performances and Queen used autotune in a ton of their studio stuff...
that high horse you're on? gerroffit
Yeah loved this song since it first came out it appeals to my sense of humor
Frank Sinatra never wrote his own music, and no one beats Frankie blue eyes

Saw him live in a tiny bar outside Leeds last night and he was fab. Sweet, nervy, funny and with some great new songs.
Used to love Space lyrics. Had a mixture of working class humour and tragic fatality.
Я искал её 5 дней, не зная ни названия, ни слов песни, ни исполнителя! И в итоге Ютуб сам нашёл этот клип и порекомендовал! Я в шоке!
Forgot this song even existed. Genius
I’ve been looking for it for ages I even forgot the name
Fuck i miss the 90s!!
Me too, so much!
Mike Ludden the 90s were awesome (apart from school)
Not heard this song in absolute years. Holds up much better than I remember. Really catchy, great songwriting.
Ahhh... my tune for Valentine's Day!
No one can top against 90's music likes this.. the best of 90's era..

2023 and this song is still sooooooo underrated .
Begging for likes. So sad.

OMG I've been trying to re-find this song for years on and off!!! Love it.
Still one of the greatest song lyric to this day ‘I’ve never thrown my knickers at you !’ Genius
This song was on the top 40 on Prambors Radio for months, in 1997 or 1998 if I remember correctly. I was 14 or 15 and I LOVE this song. 😁

*Lyrics*
What did I do wrong?
Oh you nearly drove me cuckoo
Am I really all that bad?
You're worse than Hannibal Lecter, Charlie Manson, Freddie Krueger
Why are we still together?
Oh I can't leave until you're dead
You mean till death do us part?
I mean like cyanide, strangulation or an axe to your head
It was lucky for us I turned the radio on
They say that music soothes the savage beast
There was something in that voice that stopped us seeing red
The two of us would surely have ended up dead
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
So haven't solved our problems
You mean we hate each other's guts
I still wanna poison your pizza
And I still wanna cut off your nuts
I phoned the marriage guidance
I tied the phone line round your neck
I'm sick of all this hatred
Well that will be the arsenic making you sick
You were about to drive me over the edge of a cliff
As I tried to jump out I knocked the stereo on
You changed your mind and then slammed on the brakes
It was lucky for us we bought his greatest hits
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
And now the war is over
I've lost the urge to break your neck
I owe my life to What's New Pussycat
Delilah stopped me hating you and wishing you dead
Oh I used to call you Satan
And you were Cruella De'Ville
And now you call me your Delilah
And I am not your Lucifer
And I am just your pussycat
But just a word of warning now
Just in case we ever get tired of his voice
I know the Mafia, Godzilla, King Kong
And I know an atom bomb that's going for a song
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
You stopped us from killing each other
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
You'll never know but you saved our lives
Tom Jones, Tom Jones
I could never throw my knickers at you
And I don't come from Wales
I saw these last year at Stockton Calling it was a awesome set.
Reminds me of being a kid haha my dad always played it in the car lol
Good song...and I really do come from Wales.
I think this is a great song still.I think Tommy and Cerys both had very distinct voices too.☺️

Ah the memories! I was 14 years old!
Absolutely wonderful and so nostalgic
Listening to this, I’m forever 21!
When music was good. The 90s, officially the best decade to have a good pair of working ears.
Just watched Space live in Worthing, fantastic gig. Lovely nod to Cerys about never ageing when they play this now
Love this track

This song means a lot to me. Amazing times
