I first heard of the Pixies by hearing David Bowie rave on and on and on about them in an interview. After hearing the amazing Doolittle album and the intensity of the lead singer's vocals, I wasn't expecting him to be such a normal looking guy
Yeah - it's not that I had specific expectations, I just hadn't expected 'normal'. They look like an office's I.T. department on casual friday
Doolittle was a masterpiece album.....every song painted a unique picture. Still one of my favorite albums.
Dolittle sounds as a 90's Alt. Rock LP in 1989 and thath make it soo good.

Everybody loves the Pixies, except... the Pixies themselves. How can a band that makes such perfect music not get along. Humans are amazing.

Kim Deal is the all time most underrated bass player and musician. Breeders were dope.
She couldn't even play bass when she auditioned. She turned up without a bass and still got the gig.
Kim did play guitar though. She wasn't a complete neophyte.

"By Bossanova, the band had developed a severe aversion to recording music videos, and Francis refused to lip-sync to them. For example, in the "Here Comes Your Man" video, both Black and Deal open their mouths wide instead of mouthing their lyrics. According to the record label, this became one of the reasons that Pixies never achieved major coverage on MTV."
In any event, the open mouth schtick is very surreal and funny.

@@BuMp2RuN I think they were actually talking about this ruclips.net/video/DzRAZ1uS-Ao/видео.html it's not a music video but a performance in which the band had to mime to a pre_recorded track. In protest, the band completely butchered the performance and mimed really badly and Kurt sang in a weird voice. It makes sense in context.
One of my favorite bands in the 80's and they still sound awesome.
Most underrated band in R&R history. Kurt Cobain reference them in so many of his hand written notes. They were far ahead of their time.

16 March 2017 my son was born by cesarean section and the surgeon turned to me and said 'you can play the music now' and we played 'here comes your man' so it is the first sounds my son heard, and when we play it now he gets a far away look in his eyes like he is trying to access the depth of his memories, smiles a little and starts to move his head to the song . . cool surgeon in London

4AD was THE artpunk label in the mid/late 80's. So many great bands, so many great albums. They made living through the 80's worth it. Living in rural North Carolina, their mail-order catalogue was my lifeline.
A friend of mine who had moved to North Carolina in the late '80s sent me a cassette with this song on it. It was my introduction to the band. I think that made me always think of NC as kinda into good music.

What a fine and inspiring sense of humor. Refreshing AF.
I can still remember the first time I heard this song 30 years ago. A friend and I were driving home from a weekend trip. He put a cassette-tape (you may need to look this up...) a girl had recorded for him into the stereo, and suddenly it started playing with that unforgettable TWANG. It immediately stuck in my head. And although he hated it, I rewound played it again around ten times. Since then I never have to think for a second when someone asks me what my favorite song is.
One of my fave songs of all time. Love it so much.

REM’s first video effort was called “REM Succumbs.” They’d broken big without MTV and likely thought videos were self indulgent and stupid. Vids were weird but good-think Stipe’s lyrics in pictures.
The video itself is a protest.. it was intentionally bad
I see people laughing at the really bad lip syncing but the reason for this is because Pixies infamously hated lip syncing and the only way they could come close is to just open their mouths wide. While intially done as a protest action, this intentional bad lip syncing actually makes the video more entertaining in the end.
That and if I remember they didn't want to put this song in but producer said it would be good. Don't quote be on that tho I'm just some kid on the internet

One of the most influential bands of the last 20 years. Very influential for alternative and indie rock of the last two decades. There wouldn't be any "Smells Like Teen Spirit"s, nor any Weezer's "Pinkerton" album, nor any "Creep" song by Radiohead if it wouldn't exist any Pixies music. I'm going to see them live here in Colombia next year. I can't wait!!!!!

I discovered the pixies less than 6 years ago, but when I listen to their songs for the first time it is as if I had listened to them forever, and they evoke feelings like when you remember a pleasant moment with the songs of your childhood, but without any specific memory because it was not part of my childhood.
