Just a small point, but the pocket guide recommends the final INS switch setting should be IFA rather than NAV. NAV is regarded as a degraded mode navigation (presumably it slowly drifts in accuracy?) but the IFA setting couples the inertial navigation with GPS and continuously corrects itself. I have only recently started training on the Harrier but I get the impression that this is a change from the original early access model which had only NAV.
The SINS cable is the Sea Inertial Navigation Systems Cable which aligns the AV-8B's INS to the ships' onboard INS for navigation purposes! :) When you "attach ground power" it also attaches the SINS cable to make that possible. It's a legacy of the Harrier's British Lineage. The US generally uses a specific radio frequency on board carriers, but due to the Harrier's lineage, the SINS cable was retained.
Thy for the video I tried for a few hours now to get the training mission for coldstart done and had problems with getting the turbine running and then came ins and I was so hard confused (new to dcs)
Just one comment..my altitude ladder and my artificial horizon indicators do not appear on my HUD..I think it’s a Bug..as it’s the same on the release version..and quick action..any advise ??? I asked on forums but no one seems to want to help..thanks once again..
When you did the alignment, did the countdown reach zero? When it reached zero did you switch it to NAV? It should... work! :) You can also "cheat" it by switching it to Gyro real quick and back to NAV... just double check the heading didn't change any (it shouldn't have).
Whiskey's Gaming Lounge .no count down at all..only works with auto startup..but even then no altitude ladder.no heading bug..it used to work, but months now missing..thanks for the reply..
Parking brake on? SINS cable connected while on Carrier? (Turn on "Ground Power" while on the carrier and make sure the SINS capable gets connected in the messages). Those are the two most common reasons why the INS wont align. The other thing to look into is what you have your in game settings set to for the Harrier's INS alignment... there is a "cheat" in the options that allows it to be auto aligned on startup.
Parking brake on? I haven't played the AV8B since the Tomcat came out, but I know there are issues with the Tomcat and the carrier alignment. Tell me more about the situation in which you are trying this!
So in the tutorial I could enter a value for east easy enough. But I could be enter a North value. Thought the tutorial was bugged but when I tried it in a quick mission I couldn't enter a longitudinal or latitudinal value. At least video proves I'm doing it right.
It's entirely possible INS is bugged again. For some reason INS gets bugged every now and then. Sometimes it's the SINS cable on the Tarawa, sometimes its ground based... that problem is entirely on RAZBAM to fix.
I think RAZBAM nuked the INS code because it didn't work for me either last time I flew the harrier. On TTI I just toss it straight into NAV and it seems to work fine?
Massive thanks..you just saved my sanity..you’re tutorial is the best and solved month’s of frustration..on INS alignment problem.
You're a godsend. Ground Alignment was doing my head in. Thankyou
No problem! Glad I could help! :)
Thanks so much for this video as was really struggling to work out ground alignment!

One fuckin switch was stopping me from finishing this process. Thank you
SINS stands for Ship Inertial Navigation System, not Sea INS (sorry for being that guy, great video btw)
Thanks for the correction! :) I meant Ship, but said Sea.... case of the mouth moving faster than the brain! :D
Thanks for the video.

Very helpful... thanks!
Great video and very helpful.. thx
Glad it helped out! I know some people are struggling to figure this out due to recent changes to the Harrier!

I think you have to set the MVAR with a SINS alignment also

kneeboard, brotha.... that has all the coordinates without having to write em down
The "Timer" On the MFD, is however bugged. Its just going from 0 to 1 and back to 0, and glitching over to the other MFD. help?

11:10 *Latitude (Lateral), not Longitude...
not working for me on blue flag any ideas?

damn it all I wanted to know was how to do stored heading alignment "oh I don't care about that so not going to show it"... thanks.
