Well yes but it's easy to say this AFTER someone has died.... I mean technically in these videos, people did survive, the chamber one, he only died by unluckily going in the chimney bit he could've made it out, the one where they went under the ice 2 people did do it and survive e. T. C so if you know its possibly to survive then you don't expect you'd be the one to die.... . It's about exploration, why go to the moon in the first place when it's possible to die? Why did we go down to the Marian's trench when you could die? Why take an aeroplane abroad when you could die, plenty have crashed before.... As I say its only AFTER a death people say "why do it"..... If they went into the 4th chamber and came up with a scientific discovery of a new species of animal/plant/bacteria that's huge and it cememts their name in history, not to mention new finds like thst could have the potential to unlock what we previously didn't have in regards to science, biology, medicine e. T. C

@@thebenmidthun possible some of them, but the 4th chamber noone has been in and come out of alive, so who knows about that maybe there is something... Also I will refer you to the next video in this current playlist, it has another diving story where people go into "devil's hole" after 2 of them go missing... 2 experienced devil's hole divers go down to the bottom to find then and one of them ends up finding a hole he has never seen before, thst has a current, they check it and it goes to a minimum of 923ft (you've probably seen the video already so you know). Now use that as example for your comment. them experienced divers have been inside that same place many many times before and only then when they were searching for bodies did they find an entrance going soo deep it's believed to connexct to the sea 2000 miles away. so it goes to show there could always be something new to find, especially in the pitch black when all it takes is for your flashlight to hit something you never noticed last time.

Don't worry, I don't TRY to do risky things, all my dives happen with a buddy, usually my dad. I've been diving for 13 hears, he's been diving for 40.
An almost fatal story: one day, my dad was ice diving with his two brothers and one college friend. His college buddy thinks the guide wire should be connected to his flashlight, and well, he dropped his light, and the safety line almost immediately. Had they not been in sight of the hole they cut at the surface, I wouldn't be here right now.
Diver safety isn't a joke, and we take extra precautions, like running a carabiner right to our vest with the guide lines attached when we enter obstacles.
Although it seems like a joke, I am truly horrified that one day, me and my dive buddy might end up on one of these specials, because no matter how safe you are, someone else can and will easily jeopardize your safety and your life.

I know your comment is over a year old, but I just wanted to share since I came across this video today. I've been on more than 10 diving trips to Cozumel, ever since I got certified at 12 years old, back in 98. It was a yearly tradition with my mom (she was a dive master and later became an instructor, she's now retired and it's been many, many years since the last time we went on a dive trip together). I've been to Cozumel's "The Wall" on several trips, very likely the same location as you. When I was younger we would usually skip that day of diving. But after I was around 14-15, it was something we would do a few times on each of our trips.
It's such a surreal experience, I can't even put into words. On your right, just beautiful coral reef, teeming with all the typical reef fish and sea life you would normally see in the Caribbean. Then on your left, abyss, just sheer dark blue nothingness. Literally a 90 degree drop to the depths of the ocean. The running joke was, hold tight to your dive buddy or you'd end up in Cuba if the sharks didn't get you first, due to the massive current in that area.
It's actually kind of terrifying thinking back on it now, but holy crap it was such an incredible experience. Thank you for bringing me back some nostalgia, I sure miss those trips.

He did. Look up Guy Garman for dull details.
And understand that, at the depth he was diving, just having somebody to pull you back to the surface will kill you. Ascent from those depths requires literal hours of depressurization at multiple stages-- I think tge ascent required fifteen hours for his partner to return to the surface safely. If something goes wrong at those depths you're dead, the only question is how, and how quickly.

Seeing how close some people got was scary. I remember my auntie shouting at my cousin for getting too close, and when I went back as an adult I told my dad off when he stood on the 'ledge' rock you spoke of. Look up the story of the tagged 9ft shark that got eaten by an unknown creature. The tag beacon went hundreds of meters down into the ocean out of nowhere showing an unusual increase in temperature during its dive. The tag got later found, partly destroyed by stomach acids of unsaid known creature. The dude who was leading this research got completely obsessed with it and actually fucked up his career as a scientist, taking on jobs on local fisherboats to spot the area etc.
He found out that the area where the shark was eaten was an unknown breeding-ground for killer-whales so at this point in time the two most probable theories are that the shark got eaten by a massive killer-whale or by another massive white shark. The largest on record white shark was around 20ft (Deep blue, btw also probably preggy at the time they recorded her for the last time).
Now imagine: if you're a shark and you are horny AF. WHO CHOSES THIS 20FT MONSTER? Something legit looked at it with it's 200m year old brain and was like: "Fuck it, Imma tap that."
That's the super frightening thing about Deep Blue, that she was pregnant. It means there's an actual male-counterpart of her and male sharks are known to be way more aggresive. And with alot of animals in the animal kingdom female counterparts are often bigger and heftier... But not not in particular with sharks: the girth and weight of females is often bigger (esp. when preggy) but not their length, when not preggy they average out pretty well compared to males.

Hahahaha!! My husband is a retired US Marine and when he was stationed at one of his first duty stations, this other young marine decided to go into another marines barracks room and use his hair clippers to give his head a good shave. A few days later he couldn’t stop itching his head… he didn’t realize the one marine who owned the clippers had crabs and he gave himself crabs on his head because of it. Lesson learned… always use your own clippers unless it’s at a barbers where you know they haven’t been used on a pair of itchy balls 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 🦀 🦀 🦀 p.s both young marines never lived that story down!!!

When you said that there is something so big and vicious, at undiscovered depths of the ocean, that have literally taken bites out of whales.. my fear of the ocean increased dramatically!! 😱 I mean.. I can't even handle a little fish bumping into my leg, while swimming in a lake! I definitely can't begin to imagine the level of fear that diver went through when he got stuck that deep in the ocean.

Well, in the last half century, the giant squid went from myth/legend to real and apparently the sperm whale's favorite food and natural enemy. The Humboldt squid is only 4 or 5 feet, but extremely mean and can wreck havoc on a man, imagine a squid 10 times that size. OUCH. Now imagine what else is down there.
The sad thing is that apparently every day, 2 giants fight for life and death like a claymation sci fi movie, but we never get to see it.

Lol same here many years ago there was a series on called surface and ,a boy found some small Sea creature that started getting big fast, but apparently there was already the great grandaddy , still in the ocean and I will never forget there was this part ,were there was a huge ship in the ocean and it showed a above shot and you could just see the outline of like huge sea creatures shadow around that big ship almost gave me a heartattach.

You are not alone sister :p. I wonder if there is a traceable reason to such a phobia, I almost tremble when getting into deep lake water, and If I get on a jetski, the fear of falling keeps me shaking. Idk why, but it's real. And after hearing Mr. Ballen explain about the whale situation diving and coming up injured, I'm okay with taking 'learn how to surf' off of my bucket list 👍

Wow! How have I not heard about the Amelia Earhart thing?! My grandma was taught to fly by her father when she was 11\12yo (in the 40s?)... I think that's where my fascination with earhart came from...
Also got a chance to ask my grandpa (her husband)big he remembered the state of things when the war of the worlds broadcast went out. He said there was an absolute panic. And because of such limited technology, it took days for word to spread that it was a hoax. They literally thought the world was ending.
His mother was also alive during the titanic and survived the san Fransisco earthquake of 1906? The only possession that survived was a pair of salt and pepper shakers.
Haha sorry for my family history ramble, I just find all this so fascinating..
And it's been awesome to have such long living relatives to get even more perspective.
Even as a kid I would rather hang out with the retired folks in the neighborhood, as oppose to kids my own age... No drama, better snack and awesome stories and life lessons...
Guess I've always been an oddball. 🤷🥰

There is a cool aquarium near Cincinnati OH and they used to have a fantastic display with Japanese spider crabs. It was so spooky and otherwordly. It was my all time favorite aquarium attraction ever; I could stand and watch them for hours. Last time we went back (few years ago) they had removed the crabs and turned that section into all tanks with seahorses. I figure the public complained about the scary crabs, and now it looks like Disneyland. What a disappointment.

I grew up in England and live near Bolton Abbey where the Bolton Strid is. When we were little kids, our parents would take us there for picnics. I never knew about the strid though 😧 that’s utterly terrifying. I’m sure there has to be plenty of sign posts up warning people not to go near it. I’ll definitely be telling my kids about it so that when we go to Bolton Abbey this summer (I just moved back to England after 16yrs in the states) that they will actually listen when I tell them not to wander off near the water.
