I wondered the same thing when I first saw it, but I think the kick was probably blocked or deflected. It's difficult to tell for the angle. It could have even been out of range.
Hi, i'm not very educated in shotokan karate, but i'm trying to be educated in martial arts. can someone explain to me why was shinzo the victor of the exchange in 3:09?
in Kumite, the emphasis is on first to strike target with proper technique, i've practiced shotokan for over 10yrs, but even i had to replay about 3 times to see Chinzo land his Kizami Zuki (jab with leading hand) before opponent reached with a gyaku zuzi (cross) to his face (He was too fast for the unpracticed eye to see (kudos to the referees). Chinzo's technique was good because it had proper Kime. (Kime is kinda like a practitioners ability to go from 0- 100 and back to 0,make contact, but leave no lasting damage). His punch was fast & precise yet not heavy on contact. If this still feels like a game of tag to you, please consider or imagine that the fighters each had a dagger or blade of some kind in each hand and did not pull their punches. The Idea is that 1 properly placed strike is all that you should need, and aspire to.
+eric osunbor I respect your 10 yrs of experience but this was imo wrong decicision. The kizami was lazy (Nemoto even pulled Chinzo's hand down!) and also def. too short. It would not land.
+kkarx pause at the last second of 3:15.. You can play it in very slow motion.. Chinzo kizame hit before the opponent pull it down and then counter it with giaku tsuki
fromdetroit.i love karate but karate reverse punchs are not practical, these men are spending so much time trying to throw a perfect reverse punch that all other hand techniques (even blocking techniques) are out the equation. thanx
Hmm every fighter has his favourite technique on which he works the most. Karate fighters practice straight punches. Reverse puches are not impractical, you just need to know how to use them. Chinzo K.O.-ed his opponent by a single reverse punch recently in Bellator 170.
You must be thinking of Kyokushin karate. In Shotokan it is usually allowed. It may also depend on the association or organization running the tournament.
to emulate shotokan style, just use a wide stance and move back forth.rear hand not in chin but in abdoment straight not up.front hand up but fist toward opponent.they will just shoot it straight without charging the punch.
Wth you talking about of course they are allowed to attack first otherwise there won't be any counter attacks lol Most point karate matches are won by first strikes(for points) counter strikes are great but score less.....
+Clubber O' leary I'm with you. I was a boxer and dutch style kickboxer for a long time. I've sparred and trained with a number who did karate and even a kung fu guy who were really good. But they came from tough ass schools who actually promoted real contact and continuous fighting.
it is a tagging game alright. but I bet u any of these guy's tag can screw ur jaw once they make connection in a real fight without gloves. their hand and footworks are crazy fast. think u can see them coming? I do muay thai for years and I respect these guys.
Chinzo is a true karateka 🥋
this is awesome more machida karate please!!!
The power of Machida clan.. Hehehe
Chinzo, not Shinzo.
In Japanese romanji spelling it is shinzo.....in English and Portuguese it is spelled chinzo.
You welcome
@@teovu5557 thank you for adding this
gotta make more highlights like this with the slow motion replays and such...especially one of Ogata

this is karate.
Much more entertaining than wkf
seems that at 1:12, Chinzo took a punch in the face before scoring... ref mistake?

Thank god for the UFC! Where we get to see what styles is the best mix up
Dont forget the glorious Pride, man.
Ele é bem talentoso!
Why no side kicks?
The level competition is why. Less margin for error.
so not many knockout in Karate? No highkicks? I wonder how Floyd would compete in these things.
what do yo mean?
That's Shotokan, kyokushin is full contact Karate, could be the style you're searching for
Karate de verdade...☝️👍👏👏
Machida is good bro, I cant imagine he beat nemoto😮
Why don't they just use mma gloves I mean these kind of look the same how the way their wrapped it was just a thought.
Because they have their karate glove. Which they've been been using for generations. Well, they are indeed similar to mma glove.
No they not similar, vast difference in protection!

Props to Machida for placing second, but he should have lost 2-1 against Nemoto Keisuke...

Chinzo machida and Lyoto machida be knocking people out in MMA with these fast chambered punches.....literally watch their MMA matches on RUclips ....

that's not true. I've practiced shotokan. The point goes to who lands it first and who is moving forward. Look at 2:19.
James Perrin 02:19 yes.
Against Nemoto, no 2nd waza ari!
I'm going to take the point of the karate technique, and I shouldn't be talking about it as a martial arts.
Mmmm.....lyoto machida's son ?
His _older_ brother.
Mother
O Chinzo luta muito
He is good !!!
i thought punches to the face or head was illegal in karate
You must be thinking of Kyokushin karate. In Shotokan it is usually allowed. It may also depend on the association or organization running the tournament.
only if you dont have gloves or under kyokushin rules

Why hardly any kick? Then go for boxing. No applications.
You both are in coma.
Over the Shotokan has become Comakan.
Shame on Funikosi.
Joel romero jones
this way of fighting cannot win through attacking, but counter attacking.they cant use attacking style, the rules prohibit it.
what you've said is not true, you can win through attacking. you pick your strategy based on knowledge of your opponent or your core competencies
Wth you talking about of course they are allowed to attack first otherwise there won't be any counter attacks lol
Most point karate matches are won by first strikes(for points) counter strikes are great but score less.....
OSS!!
@thedamgame there isnt any cuz its a lie.hahaha.jst jkng
Tennis
glorified tag.. other chinzo I wonder how many of these guys would actually survive a real fight
It depends on the practitioner, i do Thai but respect all martial arts, shotokan is effective if trained with contact.
nabz al rash It's a point based competition not knockout dipshit
nabz al rash Lyoto did this before MMA, Chinzo did a few MMA fights
+Clubber O' leary
