I’ve kneeled on my replacements but after four months post op and being careful. On the hard floor it can be a little daunting but my first attempts were cushioned with a pillow or folded towel. Sometimes you have to get on your knee cleaning up around the house. Just take it easy and no damage will occur.
I'm 6 months post-op and 66 years old, and I can kneel with a cushion to clean floors, etc. Pretty comfortably. It's not pain, but the scar stretches and feels weird.
I had a tkr, If I have nerve damage what do I need to do. It’s stiff and sore and like it’s going down in my leg. Is there anything I can do for nerve damage can’t sleep at night with the tense in my leg waking me up in the middle of the night
I had both tkr 10weeks apart 3½yrs ago. Tried kneeling but the sensation is painful so i avoid it. Work as a refrigeration mechanic in a supermarket chain, up and down on concrete. I lay down to work on the floor or sit on a bucket to work. I will take the implants over bone on bone any day.
That is great to hear, am very happy for you. Would rather hear positive comments everytime. When I have my tkr soon hope I am going to be like you as want to start living again, have huge bucket list. All best.
@@jangriffin-fi1yx to simplify, you have to go through a valley to enjoy the view on the next mountain top. I'm glad I did it and it's results but hope I don't have to do it again. I tell my wife I have salvage value with the metal in me, like the tin man.
Kneeling may be a form of conditioning over time but how does one get up from the kneeling position with a double TKR? I am post op 7 years and to return to standing or even sitting from kneeling on the floor one needs to put all their weight on the knees. Next to impossible for me. I always need to hold onto to something strong like a piece of furniture or a railing to get up in a contorted manner with my arms doing all the work. If I fell and there was nothing to crawl to to hold onto, I would be stuck on the ground.
Thank you. very helpful video. I will definitely practice this. Could you also please do a video on how to get off the floor From both kneeling and sitting positions. Thank you.
Great tips for kneeling! Thanks, I really find this helpful. I'm 5 months out and still don't have full range of motion! Also, when I do get in the kneeling position, I don't fully get directly on the knee, it's slightly a side kneel. If you can under that!
This is interesting because I read you shouldn't until 6 months post op. There was a video that an orthopedic surgeon talked about a study/process that Dr. Richard Berger did. He is allegedly the #1 surgeon in the world and is at Rush in Chicago. Anyway, he had patients start kneeling right away on the sofa or chair for a week, then gradually go to a firmer surface each week. And most could kneel. I know people who garden and such without any problem. The yoga instructor at the health club has several participants with knee and hip replacements. I kneel on a step in the pool. I have my 3 month follow-up on the 14th and am asking.
Hello, I am just 3 weeks past knee replacement and at week 2 was able to get to 102 degrees bend and having no issues with straightening either. My concern now is I feel the muscle above my knee are tight and knee cap and below the knee is still numb. I want yes to know is there anything g I can do to loosen up the knee and inflammation so I can bend more. Was told it will take time but was wondering g is there anything I can do to help. When I sit at work my knee tightens up and have to walk.
Hi Samantha. I have a posterior medial meniscus root tear and extrusion. I get clicking and soft grinding that comes and goes. I have no pain or swelling and no mobility or flexibility problems. I do a lot of walking and bending and weights with no probs. What are the exercises that you can suggest to strengthen the surrounding muscles. Thanks.
Hello. Great volg. Three months into knee replacement. When can i start doing this. One doctor told me i can never kneel on my knee again. Im a bit scared to do this.
I would do an exercise program focused on quad and glute strengthening. I have a program on my website. Would love to have you join! www.succeedcourses.com/Exercise-class
While I want to kneel after 3 months allowing the bone to grow into the knee metal fixture for a solid fit, was told by the surgeon’s PA that kneeling should never be done or risk loosing the fit. What is correct? I always expected I could cautiously kneel knowing it would take practice.
I haven’t seen any updated research stating that. I would look at the research and present it to them. How do they expect people to crawl if needed, look under the bed, what if you fall? There’s so many reasons to train for kneeling.
yes, agree. i think after the 3 months allowing the bone to grow into the fixtures, one should be allowed gentle kneeling without any harm. i will ask the surgeon since he never mentioned this, just his PA but he did mention i could do light skiing but no jumping or running as that could loosen the fixtures over time. i was surprised he did not use any glue for attachment since said my bone was excellent for grow-in tight fit. i will ask and report back.
Hello Iam 7 wks post op and doing really well thanks to your exercises and advice . I can get up and down off the floor up and down stairs walk outside unaided 120 bend totally straight. Iam back at aqua and practicing pilarties 1 to 1 . My question is about kneeling I have had my patella replaced can I practice the exercises you have mentioned in this video.
You’ll want to ask your doc. If the entire patella was replaced, you might not be able to. Generally with a knee replacement only the underside of the knee cap is replaced.
OMG thank you💜🦋💜 3 mos. out TKR I just saw my dr. yesterday and he told i can slowly practice this. i want to get down & up from floor safely -do some floor stretching or if i drop-lol!
I don’t understand why that’s relevant. I am here to provide evidence based information on knee replacements as a health care professional and a specialist in knee replacement recovery. I help patients reach any goal they have
Don't be afraid, and absolutely don't wimp out doing exercises. Just do it. I had to lose weight and get my A1C down, and I am so glad I had it done. Also, if you aren't happy with your PT, go elsewhere. The best improvements I had were going to a massage therapist. It was worth every penny. Put money aside.
An guarantee that you have NOT had total knee replacement!, The exquisite pain I experienced trying to kneel caused me to come close to passing out! Older people should NEVER try kneeling on the floor almost impossible to get up again! Most sincerely, R.N rtd.
Everyone’s experience is completely different. I’ve had people have a dull 2/10 pain for a couple weeks. And I’ve some with 9/10 pain. Your experience doesn’t mean everyone feels that way. I’ve seen thousands of patients with knee replacements. I do absolutely know what works and what doesn’t.
Dr Samantha, do you know if there a difference in being able to eventually kneel or not, depending on whether the Surgeon has had to work on the back side of the actual patella or not? I understand he/she doesn't always know they have to work on that until they begin surgery and so some patients may not know whether that's been needed or not and how does that affect the "knee" longterm? Just asking.

Only thing is one shdnt stop exercising which l did for which l m having pain sometimes.but when l listened to u which l did previously l was completely pain-free.l have started again exercising.please tell me how long lwill have to exercise??And l tell people with krs to follow ur instructions before trying to kneel. Its very useful and u will experience the difference when u follow the instructions completely

You have to massage your knee with vitamin E everyday three times a day to loose up those muscles. If you don't it will stay like that. GoodLuck!

You might clarify and ask if you can kneel on a pillow. Most surgeons say they don’t want you to kneel but they mean no kneeling on cement.
I would assume knee pads are ok to use with a knee replacement
Yes definitely!
