I'll be 1 year PO next month and I noticed my RTKA buckling. I was fearful of something horrible happening internally as I was becoming more active i.e. swimming and power walking. Definitely including this new regiment in my routine. A million thanks, Dr. Sam!
Dr Sam, you ROCK! The buckling issue was not addressed (until we found this video) by other YT channels. Thank you for putting together the FB Support Group. I have grown to find you are a VERY competent PT doctor. A tremendous resource. I will be checking out your succeed courses. ❤❤❤
I just had my surgery on Nov 30th. Knee buckled and instantly got scared. Went straight to google videos found yours and your opening sentences about how this is common. Thank you and going to follow your work.
Thank you so much for this information my knee gives out several times when walking or standing. I am 5 weeks post op. I will do this exercises, thanks and God bless you 😊🙏🏼🙌🏼
Thank you so much for posting this video. It has been so informative and helpful to hear a possible cause of my husband’s knee buckling post surgery at 6 months. We Will check out your course on strengthening the quad.
Wow…this video just hit on the nail. I started this knee buckling at about 8 months after my TKR. It’s weird because I have kept active and was freaking out over it. Saw my knee Dr. and said exactly what you described about those nerves being disturbed, although they try to stay away from them but been so small it’s hard not to disturb them. And the tourniquet also has a lot to play in the condition. I’m at one year after my surgery and still doing therapy on my own at home just about every day. Thanks for all your informative videos…
DR. I am now 8 weeks out and just found your videos, these are amazing and I thank you for the information. My progress has been good, but these are very helpful.
Thankyou that's just what I need to see/hear today. I'm almost 12mths po and still have slight buckling at least a couple of time a week. My right quad is improving but still weak so I'll concentrate on these exercises. 😊😊😊
Hi Samantha ! I love ur videos ! They have helped me so much ! I am now 14 weeks following TKR ! I am very depressed due to the slow progress ! I have been doing my exercises faithfully since my surgery but dont seem to be seeing much improvement ! I have a lot of pain around my kneecap and a sharp stabbing pain when flexing my knee down the outer r side ! It s very difficult when getting in and out of the car and standing from Sitting ! Etc . Is my knee ever going to get better or am I one of the few thats going wrong ! Im at the stage of regretting ever having this done !
Most likely the exercises you are doing aren’t making your muscles stronger. Unless you are making the exercises slightly more challenging each week. That’s the key to reducing the pain - make the muscles stronger. I have an exercise class to help with this too. Check it out here: succeedcourses.com/Exercise-class
I have had bilateral knee replacement 2 and half months back , I also underwent spine L 4 L 5 radiculopsthy surgery in July 23. Can I do the above exercises?
I had my surgery June 7th and I attended therapy as best I could. I had dual insurance and my insurance only gave me 12 visits. My Medicaid was cut off in February of this year and I didn't find out until after the surgery was done. So I have been doing the exercises that I was doing with the therapist at home. I don't have medical transportation anymore and I don't have the money to pay the therapist at all. I do have the buckling in my knee, but also I need to know what exercises I can do to get my range of motion back in the lower part of my leg? I can do knee bends but the bottom part of my leg dose not bend. When I'm doing kick backs it bends very little, is there any thing you can share with me so that I can get my range of motion back in my leg???? My sldoctir tried to get the insurance to approve the splint for my leg, but it was denied. So he is appealing it, but I haven't heard anything yet and I don't want my leg to get stuck and end up walking with a cane for the rest if my life. I got this surgery because I wanted my quality of life to be 100%. Can you please tell me what exercises I can do!
I'm 2 months post-op. It took my medical team 3 weeks to start my out patient PT. So I already feel like I'm behind. Friday night after PT my other knee was so painful, to the point I could barely walk. I'm currently on the cane, but almost pulled the walker back out because I had no stability between both knees. The pain on both knees right now is almost unbearable.
I am so sorry to hear this. I do have a Post Surgery Course to help. It will tell you exactly what to do. Depending on your needs, you may need the Knee Bending Course too. Feel free to email me and we can figure out how to get you on track. Drsam@succeedcourses.com
@@dr.samanthasmith I appreciate you suggesting the course. Problem is, I'm not working. I'm on FMLA till August and the company that was paying me sent the last check last week, I'm currently waiting to hear about the extension request I put in. I also pay out of pocket for each therapy appointment. So paying for something extra while still trying to pay bills is out of the question, while having no income is pretty difficult. Again I do appreciate the suggestion.
@@pacattack81 It's getting better, just slowly. Still using the cane but my mobility is getting better. I do have an appointment with a spine specialist come up soon. I tried returning to work even with limitations and modifications and I sadly lasted 4 days. By day for I was in so much pain all I could do was cry. So now I'm back on medical leave and doing PT 3x a week to really focus on strengthening my knee and hip. Everything is getting there, it's just that it's taking it's time doing it.
I am 3 yrs out.. knee 2. Been great until last month. Knee very sore and warm.. not feeling right. Pain and stiffness all of a sudden. Feet are painfull too. ? Bit nervous about this
Wondering if you recommend (or not) knee compression sleeves post TKR. I have used on and off before surgery but wondering if they help or hinder recovery post Op. Tks
I actually wrote an article about this. I explain when it’s appropriate to wear and when it’s not. Check it out! www.succeedcourses.com/blog/knee-compression-sleeve
Im 4 weeks out of TKR. I have experienced buckling a couple of times. Usually after PT when my leg has muscle fatigue. I have a Don Joy knee brace that was custom made for my knee before I had surgery. Would wearing that when my leg is tired be helpful?
This video helped a lot. I’m one year PO still having knee buckling while walking fast. I’ll follow these exercises. Thanks
So glad you posted this. I’m 3 weeks out and I want to transition to a cane soooo bad. I babied this leg for 2 years.

It’s very common! It’ll improve with time but it’s frustrating in the meantime. Btw, are you a raiders fan or is that a coincidence?
I'm 8 weeks out and still experiencing knee buckling. I will definitely incorporate these exercises in my workout program. Thank you!

Great physical therapy exercises but I get distracted when watching doc Samantha giving the how-to's on the exercises. Cuteness overload
