I sit here teary eyed as I watched your recovery video and then the one year video. I am at that point to research, etc., and I am afraid to take the big leap for knee replacement. You are the first one who has touched my heart and given me the encouragement I need. Thank you for doing these.

I'm getting my left knee done in 2 weeks..I had to retire from my job Sept 2nd becuz my job requires me to kneel down for CPR classes and at the gun range. But before I decided it was time, I did everything else to prolong it first. You will know when it's time. I did lubrication shots, stem cell procdure it didnt work and cost alot of money, sometimes i think they see us coming, steroid shots, lazer treatments, massage, bemer treatments, soft wave treatments and all that got me thru..but now it's time. I'm not looking forward to it. The surgery is easy, but healing is a process. You and your doctor will know when it's time.

I had total knee and hip replacement on my right side. Knee 10 yrs ago and hip 3 yrs after the knee. I am scheduled to get the left knee done December 21 of this year. Not looking forward to it but have never had any problems with the one I had done and the pain I am experiencing now…..it needs to be done or I will spend the rest of my life sitting in a recliner and damaging my shoulders from using my arms to get myself up. Go for it, you will be amazed!

I also completely understand your anxiety and apprehension. It’s a major surgery and is going to require your complete commitment to all you will “have” to do during recovery. My journey goes back a few years and I did ALL the non surgical treatments which were just a “band aid”. So then I get to the point where you are now….decision time. I prayed on it so much. Then I decided…..I’m too young and my quality of life is declining. Everything I do and everywhere I go, my next thought was…how much walking, how much standing, how many stairs??? To renting a mobility scooter on our last cruise vacation. I don’t want to live like this anymore. So I said to myself, I can either keep declining in my quality of life OR I can “reverse” this and do the tough recovery and regain my normal life again and be rid of this horrible pain. I am now almost 1 month post op and I am so happy that everything is going as normal as expected. I will not lie, there is pain but there was also much pain before too. At least I know that with my hard work with therapy and time, I am going to heal. I wish you all the best and hope you do what ultimately is right for you. Good luck.

    Mrs. Joan,
I just want to take a moment to thank you for doing these videos of your journey after total k ee replacement. My name is Kathi and i am having a knee replacement done on my right knee on October 9th. I'm 72 years young and in a weird way, kind of looking forward to it in that if ultimately my pain level lessons, then it has to be a good thing compared to the excruciating pain of walking bone on bone that i have been experiencing. What little anxiety I was feeling, you have removed with your honesty and frankness. You have a wonderful attitude! You have help me set reasonable expectations as to my recovery process. I am not your average little old lady! I'm very active and have always worked circles around my two grown daughters. Over the last few months however, I have been forced to slow down and more or less mark time as the pain factor has been through the roof! That's just not me! So, thank you once again for taking the fear away and I wish you continued recovery and good health.

I can so relate to your comment on being able to wear shoes with heels. I'm 6 weeks out of my total knee replacement, I can't wait to be able to wear cute boots with heels again. My knees are the opposite to your knocked knees. My knees were so bowed, and I felt so unstable with walking on heels. I'm having my left knee done on May 24, 13 weeks after having right knee fixed. Not looking forward to another surgery, but it needs to be done and I want to get it over with. I feel I was very fortunate that my recovery has been easy. I never had much pain. I did struggle with sleeping though, and now at 6 weeks It's getting better. I found your videos just right before I had my surgery, and I felt encouraged after watching them. You were so upbeat. God bless and thank you for the videos.

Thank you for making these. Very helpful. I had surgery on my bad left knee for meniscus tears and bone spurs a few years ago and now have had the full knee replacement 18 days ago. I am back driving so am thankful for that. Not sleeping as well as I would like but doing well. Still lots of bruising. I made the mistake of not taking Percocet that was sent home from the hospital with me. I really didn’t have much pain the first two days and I easily get constipated. So I had a fair amount of pain and spent about a week juggling pain meds and stool softeners. I only used the walker a couple of days and now use a cane, mainly to slow myself down and alert others to not run into me. So glad I am this far along. I am 73 and this is my first surgery. I was pretty active before and not overweight so I think that helps. Thank you for all you do. From Arkansas, Carole

Miss Joan-You are the cutest thing on RUclips!! I have just seen both your videos about your recovery and your one year later update. I have my right TKR scheduled for this April 17. I have to admit, I thought I had enough information of what I would be enduring from the day of surgery and throughout the year, but I was wrong. Since setting my appointment, I have scoured over doctor's videos, PT videos--you name it. I was at the point earlier in the day thinking "there is no way I can do this!" I have both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. My joints have been through the mill! However, coming across your two videos was the best thing that happened to me today! Your positivity, your humor and your faith, has helped push me a bit more toward the, "I CAN do this" part of my thoughts. All of your points are so true! Thank you for your encouragement (because I felt you were talking to ME only)! I will review these two videos over and over until my surgery date. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Mrs. Joan, Thank you for the honest video. I had my left knee replaced in May. My right knee was replaced in August. I have 16 steps to go up and down nightly for bed. I am finally getting more confident with them. I hope at the one year mark I am able to go up and down stairs without the cane and the death grip of holding the railing.

Here I am at age 79, and the only times I’ve used a shower is in hotels and way back when I was in college. Your video has given me hope that down the road after a year or so I’ll be able to take a bath. I’m also slightly knock knee in my bad knee because my osteoarthritis has gotten very bad. You might want to get one of those you can get it like Walgreens or CVS it's a shower chair you might want to think about getting one of those it's the next best thing to take in a bath until you're able to take a bath again. Just thought I'd let you know because I'm a bathtub person also. I'm 68 we're not too far apart I hope it all goes well I will pray for you you'll be amazed Idaho while you feel I believe you'll love having the bathtub stool. My journey: Literally moved from an apartment with 27 stairs to a tiny house with 7 steps outside the day before my surgery. Setup my bed and bathroom and boxes everywhere 😔I’m single/single and no family; but King Jesus🥹This all happened on Sunday 6 August 2023 with movers getting done putting my bedroom together at 9:30 PM. Of course I got no sleep just from nerves alone on top of my environment and headspace of doing this alone. I headed to the hospital at 5AM Monday 7 August 2023 for my surgery. Had my anesthesia worn off I would have went home that afternoon but I stayed overnight and was in my new home the next day by 7PM…Phew let’s say I know the Holy Spirit has been here helping…I’m 7 months post surgery and I have been alone throughout this whole process. I’m sooooo grateful for the surgery I have NOT a single regret. By Gods grace I kept my recovery as my focus and taking it one day at a time. I still have many boxes to unpack and things to organize however I’m able to walk 3 miles or more with a smile because my right knee is pain FREE. I’m still stiff sometimes getting up however I feel it’s because of my left knee pain. I’m scheduled for surgery on that one in mid JULY. I could have had it done sooner however I wanted to get stronger first from the right and ‘pre-habing’ the left in doing so. I share all this only to say you can do this!!! 🙏🏽Please I’d be happy to share more details about the journey if you’d like.
@AtHomewithMrsJoan you are definitely a Blessing and I thank God for you following your heart and Gods to share. I will keep praying and watching for you both 🤍🙏🏽🫂

It’s really important to have good pain control for the first 2 weeks. And use your ice machine a lot. If I could give one word of advice: work hard on strengthening and stretching BEFORE surgery. It makes your rehab easier. Pick the best doctor in your area and follow the recovery plan. Best wishes.

Dear Mrs. Joan. I am so happy that you are at the 1 year mark for your knee! You are a total blessing to many, many people. I had my left knee done on January 10, 2023. I am almost at the 3 month mark. I can’t tell you how much you have helped me and made my surgery and recovery so much easier. You relieved so much anxiety because you didn’t sugar coat it. You were honest about what was to come. I was absolutely amazed at your recovery and you gave me the strength to go through with mine. I was much like you where I hadn’t been able to walk at all for almost 4 years. It left me with NO quality of life. I was living just to get up and sit all day. I am hoping that by having my left knee done (and it was due to an injury), that my right knee will not have to carry the weight all alone. I am very hopeful that I won’t have to have the right knee done. However, I will say if I have to have it done, I will keep you on my mind and re-watch your video over and over to remind me to stay positive! I love how you are. You are true and real. Please don’t ever change as you are perfect just as you are! I thank God that he sent you my way because you were and still are a total blessing to me! I love you Mrs. Joan! Thank you….

I have been dealing with knee pain over 5 years. Finally I have made up my mind that it's time to take care of Tammie. The first time I thought of doing knee surgery April 2021 , my husband had a stroke so I put it off. Then in 2022 I put in to do it again then my son had burnt both of his feet from a steam mop. So I am scheduled once again August 27th of this year to do it. I pray that the Lord will allow me to go through it and be as successful as you have been. I know you said that you can't compare someone else's healing like your own. But you sure have given me hope and I know if I continue to trust in God that he will see me through. I am only concern with having this spine stimulator in my back and if they will give me a nerve block as well. Did you have to have a nerve block ? I Thank you Mrs. Jones you have encouraged me to know I too can do this with God's help and yours. Thank you.

Your video made me feel so much better. I'm at two months and I'm encouraged what you can do. I'm seventy three and I read what some others kind do and felt like I was behind. You've gave me hope I'm going to be just fine for my age and shape. Thank you so much.

I learned never to compare myself to others. You may have other bone structure issues such as weak hips, etc. All that plays into our own personal recovery. You'll get there!

Great video. I laughed out loud when you told me how you got in the boat to get to the lake. I wish someone had taken a picture of that event. Now when I look out at my lake I'll think of you. 🛀🛀🛀in the bathtub & boat 🚣‍♀

You are absolutely precious! Thank you for your videos! I’ve had a meniscus root tear surgery and the 9 months later I had a mcl total rupture in the same knee! It’s been terrible! Now 5 months after that surgery, now I need a total knee replacement. All this ! I’m scared and in pain but your video has touched my heart for hope to complete healing ❤️‍🩹 thank you so much! I’m so happy for your healing journey and all the things you can do a year later 🎉continue to heal and be blessed! Thank you 🙏🏾 ❤

I am on my 2nd week post total knee replacement surgery of my left knee. I am feeling so discouraged and questioning my life choices right now. Exercises are so painful at this point but I know it has to be done. Watching your recovery video and this 1 year after, really encouraged me. It's still a long road ahead for me, but thank you Mrs Joan
