Thank you for a more realistic explanation and goal. As for pain, I’m still in tears at times. This really is the most painful thing I’ve ever endured.
I'm almost 4 weeks out. I too felt that thus far this has been the most painful thing I've ever been through. I'm terrified that the time will come when I'll have to do my other knee. So painful and swollen that I'm behind in my range of motion.
@@jennyl.2689 Exactly why I can't wait for my surgery in December, I don't want to end up in a wheel chair that's what will happen if I don't get this done.
I was in my Doctors office waiting for him to come in the room, this video made me not to wanna curse him out. Thank you. I don't go to jail today just because of words.
I just had total hip replacement 10 days ago… And decided to read on knee replacement because that’s what I have to do next and I came across this doctor and I came across what you were just saying and I was like oh my goodness now I don’t even want to do it, but I know I have to my knee is so bad I can’t really support myself standing up on his new hip… And I have been so blessed on my hip 10 days and Idon’t have any swelling. I don’t have much pain I’m really baby in it and baby and myself resting it while the knee sounds like it’s really gonna be a hard one… I know this is two years old so you may not even go back and look at it, but I’d love to know how you’re doing now… Have a beautiful weekend that’s coming up.
Dan, brilliant video, you have spoken more sense in just under 10 minutes than most people do in a day! Post op 6 weeks at the moment, doing well, all the things you mentioned are spot on. Self help in doing exercise and massage every day is key to recovery. one of my (many) mottoes is "Failure is not an option". Thank you for taking the time to post!
I’m 6 weeks from my total knee replacement. The first week the pain was almost unbearable. The usual heavy duty drugs relieved some pain and fortunately slept well at night, even after napping during the day. The second week movement was much easier and I’ve progressed each week. I’m now totally without pain, able to walk unaided and my knee can bend to 110 degrees ! So happy with the outcome I’m having the other knee done next year.
This video is by far one of the best videos regarding TKR recovery that I have viewed. He answered every concern I've had and gave recovery reassurance with his professional advise and calming demeanor. He relieved any stored up anxiety I had regarding my issues with pain, swelling and sleep, I know I'm not alone with my experiences and they are part of the normal recovery. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video!!!
I'm a couple days from being a full 6 weeks postop, and it's so comforting and inspiring to have been able to watch this video. I'm right on target 🙂 You addressed each of my concerns and tapped directly into the symptoms I'm experiencing (and worries). Everything was incredibly spot-on. Seems the others agree 🙏thanks!
These are things nobody tell you before the operation. All I ever heard was "you'll be glad you had it done" which I'm sure is true. I'm 2 days short of 4 weeks and am already walking better than before the operation. That band around my knee had me wondering what was going on as well as feeling some clunking around of my me knee. I feel it more than hear it. This has set my mind at ease. My PT girl told me something similar too. Nice to have reinforcement. The sleep issue is still a problem though. On a good night I might get 3hrs of sleep at a time. I sleep on my side and wondered if that was why. I can't sleep on my back. I use a pillow between my knees, it helps. Thank you so much for addressing these issues it's a relief to know all these things you spoke about are normal.
Thanks for all the good information. However, at 6 weeks out, I still require narcotic pain medication at night to help me fall asleep with a toothache like pain in the knee. The Tylenol and NSAID (Advil like medicine) which I have been on since post op day 2 are not enough and sleep is important for healing. Also , I believe daytime napping is essential for those of us who slept only 2-4 hours a night for the first 6 weeks.
I agree! I am at 5 weeks and never would have gotten the sleep required at night for healing without my afternoon naps. I still take a narcotic at bedtime most nights. Sounds like the healing process is about the same for both of us! Everyone is different, so don't listen to anyone who says pain medication is not needed at this stage of the game.
I am almost to the 6 week mark. Sleep is an issue and has been since I stopped the Oxycodone and Tramadol. I stopped those about a week and a half ago. The issue wasn’t pain so much (definitely more painful at night) as it is the restless leg symptoms. I have resorted to using 600 mgs of ibuprofen every six hours throughout the day, being sure to be able to take a dose shortly before bed (a half hour before bedtime). In addition, I am taking 200 mgs of magnesium at dinner, then again right before bedtime with the ibuprofen. Finally, and I recommend this highly, provided your incision is not still showing any scabbing, I take a cup of epsom salts and add it to a warm bath. My bedtime is normally 11pm so the bath is happening right around 10:00. I be sure to soak for at least 15 minutes. Doing the above allowed me to sleep through the night! I hope it does the same for you! Good luck and fast healing. This came from my daughter who is a nurse and a gifted healer. I thank God for her!
I suffered from restless leg problems for years until a sleep specialist suggested I get my ferritin (iron) level checked. It was low so he recommended I take a slow absorption iron supplement (ferrous sulfate). Changed my life! I tried Mirapex and other RLS meds over the years and they never really worked and I hated the side effects. Feosol is the specific brand of slow absorption iron he recommended. No problems with constipation. After a couple of weeks on the supplement, we checked the ferritin levels and they were up (don’t remember the target level he was looking for. Sorry.) and my symptoms were gone. Might be worth looking into.
I’m at 3 weeks post surgery. I’ve had good advice from my older sister for what to expect. The best advice from everyone was do the exercises. I’m coming along nicely. My physical therapist thinks I can move to a cane from the walker at the end of the coming week. I was worried about the swelling and the warm feeling in my leg until watching this video. I was also concerned about the sleep, but now know that it’s normal. That is also getting better each night. My joint was in bad shape prior to surgery, but I already see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Ty for this video. I am 5 weeks post-op from a complete/ full knee replacement @ 52 years old. I needed this info. Despite the severe pain I think I’m still on the right track.
Thanks so much for this detailed video. Am almost 5weeks post knee Replacement. I have really been hard on myself until I saw this and knowing that am on the right track helped.
Wow, I thought I was in a not so good place at 5 weeks. My mind has been playing tricks on me and has been the pain talking, muscle spasms through the night and lack of sleep. This just gave me sooo much more peace of mind. My follow up is next week and I was afraid I was going to get bad news. Sometimes hard to stay positive is not doing myself any good, I get it. Really glad I found you. Thank you ❤️
I get this and I know what you mean about the sleep. For 5 weeks I was getting up for the day between 12:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. the last two days I have slept till 5:00 a.m. and I feel like rip Van wrinkle
Thanks Doc! I needed this today! I will be 5 weeks post-op and a bit frustrated with myself. I am an active 52 years and just thinking I should be further along. I am relieved to hear from your video I am on track and doing well for the time frame. So glad I watched!! Happy New Year! Thank you!!
I am only 14 days post op. I was being so hard on myself. I had this unreasonable expectation and thought I should be almost back to normal. I was not prepared for the post surgery pain. The lack of sleep has my energy level at an all time low. I can hardly hold my head up during the day. Your video actually has given me more peace of mind. Thank you.
This was brilliant - even the description of the scar and the swelling and letting us know our knees may never feel totally normal. The only thing not covered is now EMOTIONAL I feel - talk about tearful! I know I am making good progress but still a long way to go.
Excellent summary, thank you, I’m now at 5 weeks post TKR aged 60 and I recognise all the things you’ve discussed, very reassuring. I had my “thank goodness this is getting better” moment the other day, phew 😅 I’ve read some horror stories from folks who are still having such a hard time 😢 my heart goes out to them, to have this major surgery and not feel improvements is awful I’m sure. I must admit I didn’t go flat out all the time with my exercises I truly felt the benefit of decent rest times and listened to what my knee was telling me, sometimes “pushing through “ isn’t the best advice, there’s ouch then there’s OUCH! 😳 I am still feeling the clunking and clicking which is a horrible sensation but hoping this settles a bit as weeks go on. One thing I do is actively think back to the horrendous stabbing OA inner knee pain that I had accompanied by awful hamstring pain prior to surgery, then count my blessings that those are totally fixed🥳. Onwards and upwards as they say! Wishing everyone the best outcome possible. I’ve a way to go but now glad I’ve had it done. 🥰🏴🇬🇧
Wow you absolutely nailed it, I am 4 weeks post-op, and had a knee replacement a year ago. All the symptoms you mentioned I have experienced, the worst being lack of sleep. Thank you for such accurate information.
Thank you! Great information. I am 5 weeks post op today and am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! Everyone having a TKR should watch this before surgery.
5 years post knee replacement, it was well worth the pain. It took about 18 months for me to "forget " that I have an artificial knee. I don't even think about my knee anymore going up and down the stairs, I used to go down backwards because of knee pain.
I mentioned going backwards to my PT, she said ok at times, but the goal is to get you to doing things normally. I'm 6 weeks and as part of my own PT, I hold the railing and force myself to go down frontwards. a little pain, but she assures me that I have no restrictions, I won't hurt it by stretching more than is comfortable. I also had 4 sessions of prehab 2 months prior and continued it up until surgery. stretching and strength building. I think it helped. also I wasn't in severe pain prior to surgery. 71 and 50 years working on my knees
I am 6 weeks post op and still can not straighten my knee fully. I am walking but still pain. Can't sleep, pain worst at night. Yes hardest recovery. Good to know i am not alone
I’m four weeks out and didn’t realize most struggle with sleep -lack of sleep -more emotional. I know it will get better -this is my second full knee replacement and I love the first one . Good luck -it will get better soon!
Six weeks after full knee replacement and I still hurt like a son of a gun. Advil does not do crap. Still taking pain meds and don’t tell me the pain should be completely gone.
Informative video…. I am 3 weeks out of my 2nd knee replacement. Got permission to drive 2 weeks post op. This knee replacement was a breeze due to exercises I did prior to surgery. Wish everyone was able to be so prepared prior to surgery. Your PT is paramount in your recovery!
Same here. I went into my 2nd knee replacement 20 pounds lighter and with better leg strength. Preop preparations are almost as important as pt afterwards, but that first week is still hell.
I did 3 months prehab and I felt great BUT my GP/PCP stuffed up and wouldn't send me to physio. The surgeon told me to just start small walks..The next morning I woke up at 4am and couldn't tell what was hurting- it wasn't my knee! It was my other leg and the foot. Normally I only take ibuprofen and talk myself out of Oxy but it took 10 seconds to decide and I had not touched Oxy since 10 days p.o!! 5 days later I can't walk on the crutches . My ankle on the bad leg feels badly sprained and I can't bear weight on it. Every day something else hurts. I'm going crazy as I haven't been out of the house (except for 3 drs vists) for 8 weeks. This is ridiculous bcoz there's no knee pain and half the scar has gone!!!
yep, I also had 4 sessions of prehab 2 months prior and continued it on my own up until surgery. stretching and strength building. I know it helped. also I wasn't in severe pain prior to surgery. I think many people wait too long and the condition of their joints prior to surgery goes a long way as to their recovery. I had TKR on my right knee, and was driving with little discomfort at 3 1/2 weeks. don't wait until you can't walk to get surgery. I'm 6 weeks, still swollen and some "noise" but I can kneel carefully with a pad, (PT did have me practice at 5 weeks) and back to work (physical work) by 5 weeks.
This is by far the most painful op I've ever had although I am at exactly where you're describing at this six week state. I'm doing well and slowly accepting the new knee and embracing it.
You: "most painful op" Me: "BRUTAL!" All friends who encouraged me ahead of time talked about how GLAD I would be in a few months. NO ONE told me how BRUTAL the post-op pain would be, especially the first 7-8 days. I feel like I should have been better prepared by my surgeon's staff, but maybe they're afraid patients will cancel the surgery. I was caught totally off-guard by the level of pain I have experienced. However, when and if my other knee needs to be replaced, THEN I will be prepared, psychologically as well as physically.
Please stop the music while you are talking as it is intrusive with people that have hearing difficulties. Thank you for talking since and fully explaining things.
Very good video, I have had both knees replaced. I did the PT 3 times a week after surgery for 6 weeks. I continued the PT until I felt good walking. The best thing I noticed about my recovery as compared to others was my mental outlook. I was positive that I was going to recover without any more pain and full mobility.
I'm 18 days out from my knee surgery & was working on eliminating use of pain pills. Then my knee had other ideas & now thigh muscel pain & some some muscle spasms. This video was encouraging & the information very helpful. Thank you
Do you experience tightness around the knee? I’m 3 weeks and doing pretty good but now feel such tight feeling. I’m depressed thinking of all this work and to know I have to do the other one.
Just now read your posting Shelia & headed towards 3 mos. Jan 12th. I'm making progress but it seems slow only because of a mix of good days & bad days of discomfort or something, then I'll look back & see my progress. And it IS there! I need to be thankful that I'm NOT facing a 2nd knee as you are. Good luck!
It’s very helpful information under 15 min, Before & after my knee replacement surgery I was watching 100 of them; your’s is clean and clear. thank you dr you know what you are saying. More blessings to you.
Thank you for this information . I’m going to be 70 in the spring and look forward to actually walking with no pain . I’m almost at 6 weeks from my surgery , Slowly feeling better and I Ice and elevate my knee and do exercises . That was an awwwful surgery to go through but made it through and everyday I feel better !
Great great video. Im almost 4wks post and 10 yrs after my first replacement. The first knee was the devil, plus I wasn’t mentally prepared. I mean how can you mentally prepare for a process like this when added motion challenges are placed on top (I lost 25lbs thru this entire depressed 2 month rehab state). So this time I know better what to expect plus the actual procedure has evolved, I’m ahead of where I was 10yrs ago but the sleep challenge is just tough - no way around it. Once I did fall asleep at 5am this morning I awoke to muscle craps inside the knee, no way you gonna sleep thru those 😮. For anyone struggling thru the first time process or considering having this done, the end result is EXCELLENT and well worth the tough 2+ month rehab. As I mentioned, the first knee 10yrs ago was particularly difficult but IS THE REASON I just had the other done. You will live pain free and feel the freedom to enjoy physical activity once again. Keys: *Do your exercises*, remain positive (not easy) and trust the process.
@@heygringo7 Hang in there, you have made it through the more difficult phase. Teofil was an all time Olympic favorite of mine, RIP, his punch so powerful. I just used his name for my User Name. BTW I visited Havana not long ago, I was surprised they have no museum or memorial for him. Such an Icon.
Thank you so much Dr. Dan Tomaszewski, for making this video, it cleared all my concerns and I use to think my partial knee replacement has been done wrongly, and I should go back and do full knee replacement. God bless you.
My first knee replacement went well. My other knee, not so. I'm having pain and a lot of clicking and weakness. I will be having surgery to fix it. I'm hoping that it will be as successful as the first one.
I live here in Los Angeles in 5 1/2 weeks ago had right hip or arthroplasty. I have been watching many videos and found yours to be exactly what I needed to hear. Everything you described in this particular video was what I was feeling. I have now begun stronger exercises, thank you I will continue to watch your videos. 🙏🏻❤️
It’s been almost one week now, since I’ve had my second knee replacement. Just like the other knee replacement I had five months ago, it’s pure hell the first month or so. But I can honestly say that I now look forward to my future.
Thank you so much for putting this video out there. You gave me a lot of positive feedback and convidence that I'm doing good. You hit all my concerns and highlighted what I should be concentrating on. Thank you, again.
THANK YOU for these supports and reassurances. It has been critical to my new sensations and weaknesses. Just knowing what is okay at any juncture has been so reassuring.
Finally a common sense realistic explanation I've watched other videos that made me feel useless ie someone walking normally 2 days after surgery and no pain Now i know what im going through post op 6 wks is normal Thank you
Thank you so much for the excellent explanation of what to expect after knee surgery. I am having mine done in6 weeks and am really hesitant about the surgery. Will keep on listening to you.
Thank you for this video. I am 6 weeks and 2 days post tkr surgery. You nailed it on every issue presented - except I do not have any noises coming from the new joint. I had and still have those noises in the (other) knee before surgery due to osteoarthritis. Bubble wrap and popping is my normal. I appreciated this very no-nonsense explanation of what I should be feeling. The pain is totally tolerable except during and after PT. I understand that should hurt. I am worried about scar tissue and the potential that my doctor raised about needing his intervention if I cannot bend the knee (flexion) at the expected milestones. My next appointment is 2 weeks away and I am very anxious about that. I do not want medical intervention at this point. One thing I rarely see discussed in these videos is depression. I am better now, but I have cried more in the last 6 weeks than ever in my life. I am just not a crier. I attribute it to medication, sleep interrupted and pain. But it's also frustration at now long this is taking and the general feeling of Groundhog Day. I know I am improving. It's just so incremental and I am struggling. My PT is a wonderful resource for level setting my expectations and setting realistic goals. I am also trying so hard to not compare my recovery to anyone else's. Anyway, thank you again for this video. It is just what I needed to hear today.
I could have written your response -everything I feel at 4 weeks post op. How are you feeling now? I had my other knee done years ago and I love it! Hang on it gets better and kudos to you for making it this far !
At 6 weeks I have 138 degrees of motion and can walk 3 miles. The first week was tough but the pain was manageable. Now It feels so good I often forget I have a replaced knee. Will get second one done in a month.
Good advice Dan. I would like to concur. Me, I’ve had both knees replaced , the right knee first and the second one April 2017. It was a bit painful, but a Mr J Daniels helped quite a bit. I now ride my bike on Sunday morning’s, when there’s not too much traffic. I mentioned this in the hope that you will come through the operation, and live life again, like I’ve done.
Wow, what a great video!! I love how you explained everything and it made me feel less anxious knowing that some of my issues that I am having especially trouble sleeping at night and imflammation are all normal at this point. I am 4 weeks post-op and at 3 weeks I felt I was doing really well and was at 110 degree flexion, now at 103 but it is feeling more forced and hurts more. I am in Canada and there was absolutely no followup call after going home the day after surgery. No followup call and when I called the doctor's office you cannot get past the secretary. Anyway, I feel a little more relieved after watching your video. Thank you!
Ive watched alot of videos having had my TKR surgery done five weeks ago. Needing to see how the recovery process is coming along is of course, a main concern. Youve answered my concerns in this video and it seems youve done it in a professional manner and i thank you. Good job,👍.
Thanks for the informative and helpful video Doc. I am 6 weeks out and coming along fine after a TKR. My only problem is a sciatica nerve problem in the same leg as my TKR. I am scheduled for a MRI this week to find the cause of my sciatic problem. I finally got to sleep in my bed after sleeping on a recliner for the past month. I encourage all those going for a TKR ago do all the exercises before and after surgery faithfully and daily as required. I found that using a Cold therapy machine works great along with some battery operated compression sleeves for my legs calfs. I also use a small 1 1/2”-2” paint roller for massaging those muscles. I will use a cane when I go out somewhere walking just for safety reason for you never know when you will need it. Thanks again
8 weeks post op. I’m finding riding my stationery bike the best thing for stiffness. My physio is also getting me to do calf exercises - the calf on my operated knee was extremely tight. This is helping with swelling. Agree with other comments that recovery is sure a long haul.
Great advice. Thank you so much. I'm 5x weeks post op. Knee is still very swollen and stiff. Doing my daily physio exercises and no longer need crutches, but I was quite worried that I wasn't healing as quickly as I should be. This video has really reassured me. I'm getting there, but it is a slow process, but I appear to be on target, when I thought i was way behind. Thanks.
Thank you for putting my mind at rest, its great to hear I'm not alone. It was a worry as I'm only 55 and want my life back. Very positive and informative 😊
My knee replacement 8/30/22 Post op 2 week in home therapy was a joke. Moved to 3X week at professional PT practice with Ortho doctors. It is now 11/30/22 and I am STILL IN PROFESSIONAL PT. 3X per week. NEver ending pain. Can’t sleep in a bed. After 3 months. My knee will only bend to 100-105 degrees. I do all my daily home exercises plus the 3X per week in PT. I am so at beyond upset. I am praying for a miracle.
I am right where you are at the 6 week mark. Knee flexion is only at 105 and it’s so painful, rather go through childbirth again ! PT 3x week and they work me HARD. I do my own daily exercises. My knee flexion before the surgery was bad and my other know is only 107; can’t have a TKR on that one due to past trauma and poor vascular issues after a bad car accident 40 years ago. so balance is a big issue, can’t get off of the walker yet. Depression setting in, and I am a very positive person. I am 59. Sleep is still a big issue. Chronic pain will wear you down emotionally and physically. Waiting for that miracle “corner turner”.
I pray God heal u dear. There is no miracle but in prayer. I am also 6weeks post op tkr feel frustrated cnt sit in car n cnt be up on my feet for more than an hour. But remember we not alone. Many out there read our comments are also in same boat. Much love❤
I just had my 6 week post-op meeting with my doctor. He cleared me for pickleball and rowing. I've played pickleball several times being careful to avoid sudden moves, although last time I had a sore knee afterwards. I went out on the water for 1.5 hours and, while it is a repetitive smooth exercise, my knee was sore after continuous movement and loading for that period of time. Everyone that I've seen on the internet seem to recommend these activities only after 12 weeks post op. It appears that there are a lot of different views of when you can get back into things. I love to ski and it will be 4 or 5 months before I'm back on the snow. One PT group out there said that you should never ski after a tkr. Skiing can be high impact or low impact depending on what you do. Most of the comments seem to say 3 months is the right time.
I just had my surgery may 3 an honestly Iam so happy I came across ur video. Everything u said in this video. I am experiencing the tightness the redness the color of the scare an Iam at ease finally thanks to ur video. It truely put my mind to ease. U are fantastic I can’t thank u enough fir this vudeo thank u so so much
thank you- 3 weeks on a simultaneous bilateral- it is so good to have the reassurances you just gave. I can not imagine doing one at a time when my recovery is so much more balanced. Each knee is different in pains and ranges but each is improving. Again thank you it is these little details that put us at ease.
I'm 5 weeks post simultaneous - I cant imagine not having had these videos to give in depth discussion. I also cant imagine doing one at a time. Regaining balance has been easier with the focus on both and their individual needs. And boy it has been indeed putting our fears and lack of knowledge to rest with solid support along the way. Be well and let's get our happy knees moving
What's really fun is when you start feeling the nerves reactivating -feels like small shocks or a bee sting -other than that the only thing that bothered me was where they applied the tourniquet -felt like it was still there for around 3 months
This was very helpful as I am so frustrated, at 10 weeks out I feel I should be farther along with my pain and soreness. I also was worried about the noise my knee makes but after watching this video I feel a smidge better however I probably won't be doing this to my left knee. I'd rather birth 100 babies naturally than go through this pain again.
I'm so with you on this one I have to get my other need done and I don't think I'm going to do it either I couldn't handle the pain it was horrible and last too damn long
What an excellent video! It contains lots of necessary information that doctors forget to tell you. The video is very reassuring to anyone who has just has a knee replacement, such as myself.
Spot on video. Yes, of course you could be a 7-10 ahead or behind this schedule, but it’s a very realistic depiction. I had both knees done and I was behind this schedule with my 1st one and ahead with the 2nd one.
Thank you I have a better understanding now of what to expect. I am at 4 weeks post op and still having hot bruised calves and ankles. seems I need more patience. I have just subscribed.
Very helpful I just wanted to give up the pain has been so bad at 4 weeks still. This helps knowing exactly what I’m going through is very normal. I don’t think I could ever go through another knee replacement again. It’s been rough and partially because I never got a head of the pain with the pain pills. I miss understood the first few weeks and didn’t take enough pain meds to even phase it. So there for the bend was so painful but it’s coming along now. Not an easy surgery for sure.
I had my right knee done in January 2022. In 6 weeks I was ready to go to work with no ladder work. At 3 months that knee was way better than it was. Now in Early July i an scheduled for my left knee. I rushed them. I at 57 and pretty active so not a young pup. I know that total recovery is 12 months. I see my total recovery in September October with both knees. My right knee while the scar can be sensitive to kneeling on the ground is helped with good Gel knee pads. I am excited for my second knee. I will be able to hunt the Appalachia mountains again with no pain. I did not use a walker much but limped around. I am excited to get the left done. If it does as well as my right I will be more active and help me lose weight. I am pro replacement if it is needed. I am in NE Texas and my Dr was Dr. Kiminski and his staff. They are Amazing. If you have questions contact me.
Sir ,I had my TKR before 3weeks .bt I have still too much pain 😭,my knee bend almost 90deegre bt I have too much and swelling. I'm very much worry about this . before 3yr I had my THR of both legs .plz reply me as soon as possible 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. Is it normal to have pain or not ??
Very nice video,I had my knee surgery just a minth ago but still experiencing pain, swelling, buckling of knee and lack of sleepp.I thout why I have to bear too much pain discomfort and swelling you explained everything very nicely.Thank you
I have to say, 6 weeks out and my pain is intolerable. I had a revision from a unicompartmental knee replacement to a TKR. I've also had a TKR on my other knee. I've never experienced the pain I am experiencing 6 weeks out from this revision. I've had 2 natural childhood births, that was nothing compared to what I'm going through now. I am not sure if this is because it was a revision or not. I have so much pain, burning, swelling, and a lot of sleepless nights. I'm very active, normally, and the pain is keeping me down. 6 week visit is this coming week.
I'm a little over three weeks out. The pain is reduced but it's still very high. I also had a situation with my thigh the first week that I feel set me back. My thigh was hard as a rock all the way up to my hip and extremely painful. I had to go to the ER to make sure there wasn't a clot issue. There wasn't, my thigh was simply hard and extremely painful. Sleep is a GIANT issue. I can't get more than 3 hrs of sleep a night even with pain pills. My flexion has gotten somewhat better. But it's not as far as it should be according to my Dr. and physical therapist. Again, that giant issue with my thigh I feel set me back. The home PT said of all the years he's done PT he never seen someone's thigh that hard all the way to the hip. I think the tourniquet was applied too tight. I still have nerve pain in my thigh in that area. Hopefully I can get the knee flexion I need so that they won't have to go back and do anything else. Because right now I'm behind the curve, I blame it all on the thigh issue that the Doctor seemed to blow off.
Spot on I’m 6 weeks on from surgery and that pretty much sums it up I’m walking around the block every day and mowing the lawn and hoping to go back to work in a couple of weeks I’m a house painter
@@christinerivera82168 same here. I am 2 weeks in from my left knee, and 6 weeks from having my other knee done. The first 12 days were pure HELL.
Yeah me too the pain is horrible especially the first week or two overwhelming
I'm on my second day and in so much pain. But I keep thinking it's better than being in a wheelchair the rest of my life. We got this!
Adding subtitles to the film will be a compliment to it.🤩👍🙏
I’m 6 weeks from my total knee replacement.

Jl
You answered more in 10 minutes then any doctor I know. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi, I'm due for knee surgery this week. ......im dreading it! Thank you for your video! 😊
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for this. Only at three weeks and thought my progress was so slow. Now feeling much more confident
Me too I’m so happy I found this vudeo. I had my surgery may 3 so I guess ism right were Iam supise to be. Thank u
@@hippigirlful may 10th;
Trouble sleeping, swelling, allot of ice.
I completely agree with you, I'm experiencing a very similar experience laced with the same thoughts.
Thank you.
Ok now?
I’m the same 14 days post op - it’s so easy to be hard on yourself! Thank you for the video!
you are not alone. I wish all our doctors would give us this kind of info in advance
I'm 6 weeks out, wake up at 3 am every morning. I take 2 Tylenol and sleep about 3-4 more hours. Take a catnip whenever you can.
Was the hamstring pain near the back of the knee?
@@Schetmesa hi from the back of the knee right up to the top of my leg, so glad it’s gone now!
I'm with you, doing great and so so grateful! I have my 6 week appointment tomorrow so I was interested in seeing this video for sure very helpful
Wow you absolutely nailed it, I am 4 weeks post-op, and had a knee replacement a year ago. All the symptoms you mentioned I have experienced, the worst being lack of sleep. Thank you for such accurate information.
I agree with you on lack of sleep you don't sleep at all for about 6 weeks you just can't get comfortable
Thank you! Great information. I am 5 weeks post op today and am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! Everyone having a TKR should watch this before surgery.
Great explanation of what to expect. This should be required video for knee replacement patients!! Thank you, Sir!!
Great video! I am 6 weeks postop and feel like I am right on track! Your information was very reassuring of the healing process!
Same here and my surgeon doesn’t think any of his patients need pain meds because he is the God of TKR 🙄
Everyone has a different journey! You do you! ❤
@@suekauffman5266 It might be better than doing you ...
I loved this, I'm six weeks post-op and see my surgeon in five days. Thank you for explaining it all!
This is one of the most succinct and informative videos I have seen. Thank you
2 weeks post op. Walking unaided most of the time. Go up stairs normally. Bending to 100-110. Rare use of norco. Very happy with my results so far.
@@deborahjordan235how are you doing now ??? Sending you well wishes ❤❤
yep, I also had 4 sessions of prehab 2 months prior and continued it on my own up until surgery. stretching and strength building.
Dan you really nailed it week by week …almost if you were to guide me …my every question in my mind you answered. BRAVO
This is by far the most painful op I've ever had although I am at exactly where you're describing at this six week state. I'm doing well and slowly accepting the new knee and embracing it.
You: "most painful op"
Me: "BRUTAL!"
All friends who encouraged me ahead of time talked about how GLAD I would be in a few months.
This helped, love from Ghana.. my mum just had her knee replacement & it has been three weeks now. She doesnt really feel pains hopefully.
Please stop the music while you are talking as it is intrusive with people that have hearing difficulties. Thank you for talking since and fully explaining things.
A very good clear video. My full knee replacement is in March so this has lessened my anxiety, thank you.
THANKS FOR SUCH A REASSURING VIDEO UNTIL I LISTENED TO YOU I THOUGHT I WAS NOT RECOVERING WELL. NOW I'M ENCOURAGED TO KEEP ON GOING AND HAVE HOPE!
I highly recommend doing preoperative exercises to strengthen the quads. It makes a big difference.
Your words are very helpful as well. I am suffering almost 4 weeks in. BTW were you a famous boxer?
@@heygringo7 Hang in there, you have made it through the more difficult phase. Teofil was an all time Olympic favorite of mine, RIP, his punch so powerful. I just used his name for my User Name. Thank you so much Dr. Dan Tomaszewski, for making this video, it cleared all my concerns and I use to think my partial knee replacement has been done wrongly, and I should go back and do full knee replacement. God bless you.
Brilliant advice .. I have just reached the 6 week stage .All my concerns have Just been put to bed .Thank you so much Dr .
My first knee replacement went well. My other knee, not so. I'm having pain and a lot of clicking and weakness. I will be having surgery to fix it. I'm hoping that it will be as successful as the first one.
Very nice information, I just completed six weeks after my TKR surgery! and really useful information, thank you very much.
I just got the surgery (my second day). Thank you for the great info. I'm looking forward to reaching six weeks! 🙏
How are you now?
I live here in Los Angeles in 5 1/2 weeks ago had right hip or arthroplasty. I have been watching many videos and found yours to be exactly what I needed to hear. Everything you described in this particular video was what I was feeling. I have now begun stronger exercises, thank you I will continue to watch your videos. 🙏🏻❤️
Very nice and to the point video. Thanks I was having lots of doubts as I am recovering from both knee surgeries. Now at 6 weeks.
Absolutely the best advice I’ve found so far! Thank you sir
Nicely done. My follow up is this week for my bi lateral knee replacement. I feel much better about where I’m at.Thank you.
He did my knee surgery here KY and his name is j Daniel. Very good surgeon and bedside matters explained it all to me.highly r
TKR done before 6 weeks for me. How far l can walk one time
Wow, what a great video!! Thank you!
Oops, I meant now at 113 degree flexion not 103.
Oops, I meant I am now at 113 degree flexion not 103 but it really hurt to get to that extra 3 degrees!
Ive watched alot of videos having had my TKR surgery done five weeks ago. Needing to see how the recovery process is coming along is of course, a main concern. Youve answered my concerns in this video and it seems youve done it in a professional manner and i thank you. Good job,👍.
Wow i have my 6 week doc appt coming up this week and you already answered all my concerns…..thank you this was awesome
I thought I had the sciatic issue, too, but it’s actually my Piriformis muscle. The therapist gave me stretches that help!
8 weeks post op. I’m finding riding my stationery bike the best thing for stiffness. My physio is also getting me to do calf exercises - the calf on my operated knee was extremely tight. This is helping with swelling. Agree with other comments that recovery is sure a long haul.
Good explanation I’m in Australia I’m 6 weeks after surgery and your spot on My tkr is pretty good No pain at all
Excellent video ! Puts to rest so many doubts and concerns ! thank you !! 🙏
Wonderful advice. So happy I tuned in to your programme. Thanks
Thanks.
Thank you, I really feel better, I was getting discouraged about the decision I made in getting my knee replacement
I have been through this twice and he is spot on but when you get through this it is awesome
Thank you for putting my mind at rest, its great to hear I'm not alone. It was a worry as I'm only 55 and want my life back. Very positive and informative 😊
My knee replacement 8/30/22
Post op 2 week in home therapy was a joke.
Much love❤
How are you now a year later?
Best explanation I have herd on what I am feeling. You are right on and you put me at ease.Thank you so much.
Thank you for for showing the real picture. Makes me feel good.
Thanks so much for your explanations. I am in my second week after surgery and now i know what to expect
Thank you so much for the information you have covered everything about me. It's six weeks after surgery.
Be well and let's get our happy knees moving
thanks for your post im a month out from surgery and I'm doing both knees your comments really help going in..
What's really fun is when you start feeling the nerves reactivating -feels like small shocks or a bee sting -other than that the only thing that bothered me was where they applied the tourniquet -felt like it was still there for around 3 months
This is a great video. I am almost to 6 and you answered a lot of questions. Thank you!
Most helpful video I’ve seen! Thank you. Very reassuring.
Excellent, informative and helpful presentation. Thank you.
What a great video ! So well presented and reassuring it’s really put my mind at rest . Best wishes from over the pond .
Feel your pain. I am 6 weeks out. Best thing for pain is ice.
@@kathybates1751 Is that in a glass, with a wee dram?
Amen very painful 😖
I'm so with you on this one I have to get my other need done and I don't think I'm going to do it either I couldn't handle the pain it was horrible and last too damn long
@@dixiemartin4914 im glad im getting both knees done at same time
Thanks for sharing these tips. I appreciate all you said looking forward to my knee surgery replacement in a couple of weeks.
Thank you Sir you really uplifted my spirits, been feeling really down and frustrated. I'm at the 6 wk post op .🙏🙌🙏

Very nice video,I had my knee surgery just a minth ago but still experiencing pain, swelling, buckling of knee and lack of sleepp.I thout why I have to bear too much pain discomfort and swelling you explained everything very nicely.Thank you
Very good video , had a partial knee replacement very recently
This was helpful. My doctor isn’t real verbal. I’m on track. Thanks again
Thanks Doc I'm at 6 weeks you are spot on. Dr Parisi did my right knee here in MKE. I will have my left knee done next January
That video is so spot on at where I’m at 6 weeks past Tkr. Very reassuring thank you !!!
Thank you Doctor!! You are great! I have a great Surgeon here in Mooresville, IN as well.
