Perfect landing. No float, right on the touchdown zone markers. Accuracy is where it’s at landing London City
Once a pilot said to me:
Every landing after which an airplane is still usable is a good landing.
Well I hope I don’t fly with someone with as low standards as that...
@@kurtsvensson4362 Not low standard about that except your comment
@@kurtsvensson4362 well smooth landing usually are not the safest.
@@user-e-idk I don’t need your explanation. I know how flying works.
@@kurtsvensson4362 ok
I’ve never gotten to fly on a glide slope like that. Really puts it into perspective how steep it is. I felt myself bracing right before touchdown. 😂
man that was a hard landing. Nice video btw
The Runway is only 1508 Meters long ;)
@@boeing1125 I've flown into city in harsh conditions and the touchdown was always smooth but it's always bumpy on approach .
Because the runway is very short
the A220 does some quite hard landings, same happened when I flew on one from LHR to GVA
boeing1125, also it is an steep approach.
There are much more important things in aviation than making the passengers happy with a smooth landing. At LCY with a steep approach it is required to slow the aircraft down using the speedbrakes and as soon as reaching the threshold touchdown as fast as possible. This is required to be able to stop safely on the very short runway in every case ;)
Excellently shot! Thank you.
BREATHTAKING approach, thumbs UP!
One of the best videos of an A220 landing thus far! I guess there isnt much time to flare for a greaser at London City!
Nick S That’s right! The runway is only 1508 meters long.

Great 180 degree turn after touchdown.
Very nice scenery. I like....
Awesome landing, right on the touchdown markers! Spot on
OMG what a landing...
Amazing video!
Wow that landing was really hard. Nice vid though
the hard landing was required because of the runway length of only 1508 meters
I mean it's London-City Airport, that's totally fine.
Nice video =D
Of all London Airports LCY is my favourite. It doesn t have the tiresome massiveness of Heathrow (LHR) nor the chaotic atmosphere of Gatwick (LGW) or the airport to town inconvenience of Luton (LTN).
That thing just fell out of the sky 😅
Wow??!!!!Hard landing...I’m also intrigued that they left the spoilers out right up to touchdown. Usually it is required they come in once the landing gear comes down.
Different procedures due to the short runway at London City
The angle of approach is very important in London City so it is difficult to slow down the plane without using the speadbreaks. Moreover they can’t afford to arrive too fast because the runway is very short and the A220 is not that small!
@@doriancorbat6717 the A220 needs 4550ft of runway to land and London City is about 4800ft I think so a hard landing to touchdown at the threshold is understandable. It's also a steep approach from what I understand.
Did the A220 have its tailhook deployed for the LCY arrestor gear?
Meanwhile in the cockpit.. SINK RATE SINK RATE SINK RATE
That was butter for LCY
London city airport, steep approach, spoilers on flight mode, no time to flare due to short runway.
What is that surrounding sound? Almost like a320 ptu but much more annoying
Wow, never seen that technique before. Stowing the spoilers just before touchdown lol.
JJ McNez London city approach has. 4.5degree ILS due to noise restrictions, while descending at this heavy rate you will gain speed thus why the spoilers are needed, to keep the plane at the approach speed needed. The runway is also extremely short so you are unlikely to get a smooth landing. Thanks
@@jackwalker3279 correction, it's 5.5°
Yeah not exactly a smooth touchdown. But another awesome video. The plane's shadow creeping closer to it as it descends is so cool.
scott a, it’s London City, no such thing as a smooth touchdown, with the steep approach.
Yep it is about dumping it on the deck, excessive float could cause a runway overrun event as the runway is rather short
Would I be correct in saying that LCY's runway is probably twice as thick as a normal runway? 😄
If its not, it needs to be
Has to be, if you miss out the considerable flare required with the steep approach
Twice as thick, half as long.
why did he take out the spoilers?
I can see Battersea Power Station at 4:51 :-)
Cuz I dont give no flares haha
Rough landing... I don’t know why, but it’s quite difficult to have a smooth landing with CSeries. All flights I did on CS100 or 300 landing were physical...
@Scotrail 158730 I've been on one into city and they buttered the approach. It's not that difficult, it's even easier as it's a much newer aircraft than the embraers, atrs and dash 8s.
@Scotrail 158730 it mainly depends on the pilots
The runway is very short
Speedbrake down to the flare? Weird
5.5 degree glideslope, so managing speed can be slippy. Very steep approach compared to the normal 3 degree glide.
Brace Brace Brace 😂
Very bad landing
They come in at a steeper angle, than normal. Thats probably the reason.
On a beautiful day over London lost most of the view by your sitting over the wing...not impressed
