I did Basic in October and had a great time. Came home excited to keep practicing and learning and signed up for more classes. Hope to see you in the woods next year!
I didn’t know wooly mammoth sold queen size now. Great video! I always thought of Dave as the Bruce Lee of survival, because he took what’s useful from the old knowledge and condensed it into a form that could save anyone in a emergency situation in the woods. Knowledge is always worth the money.
Nice video. I did my basic in 2021. I modified my medium alice pack with repair buckles from sea to summit. I got mine at REI. I didn't even have to remove the original hardware. Congrats on the patch!

muscle memory.
Thank you for this video!! I really want to do this course! Your review was great!
I’m taking the class in 1 1/2 weeks. Thanks a ton for the info brother!!
New sub here! Great video!! I want to take this class this year. Really good and thorough overview! Thanks for sharing! I’ll be watching your other videos soon!
Heck yeah brother. Keep truckin on.
I'm going to the basic November Basic Class in a couple of weeks. Really hope for good weather. Wooley Mammoth is a great tip! Thanks for posting this video. It's inspiring and informative.
People need to PRAY shft doesn't bappen, the sheer grit and perseverance it'll take might be over whelming.. I'm in my 40s and very active and always have been. I also have a very unique background that may help me in SHTF. If you are not active you need to be doing something EVERYDAY even if it's something around the house get up and move you will get stronger everyday if not for yourself do it for your family or friends they may need you..
Dude, great video! It’s been 4 months since we did the basic course and this is the first you popped up in my feed. New sub here
Thanks buddy.
I envy you for being with David Canterbury; unfortunately, it's too far away for me. But it was surely an amazing experience.
GREAT PRESINTATION ---- HOWDY ROCKY MOUNTS CO.
Great review/overview…I’m in Fort Wayne🤪
my son and I plan to go to the basic course in April 23, thank you for the review
How did it go?
great video, as far as the Garberg goes. All the survival people I have watched say buy my knife, if you don't like my knife buy a mora Garberg. its a good all around stout do anything knife. It's the frugal choice not the cheap choice.
❤
Spiders in your browse bed suck but what’s even worse is when you scoop a few baby snakes in there
Zon is hilarious, always in Dave's videos
Aye man! Awesome review! I had to have watched about 3 other reviews before yours, and they left me with more questions than insight.
But you? You left me speechless! You left me only with the rejuvenated motivation to get out there and do it!
There’s this nice walk that I like to take from work to home (7.5 mi in 2.5 hrs). Is there anyway that I can use that to step my game up and be “condition-ready” for the course?
Thank you so much bro!
Thank you for your comment. I'm glad I could help. My suggestion is to have 50 lbs in your pack and average about a 15-minute mile. If you do that, you'll be golden.
How many miles do you hike a day at the course??
How does one break a silky? And who carries a spare blade?
Great enthusiastic video, great to see mental preparedness being promoted (the best survival tool is between your ears). Just one question ; didn't see a survival whistle amongst your kit, did you have one ?
It wasn't on the packing list for this course. Dave does go over the use of whistles. I do have one I carry with me though whenever I go out.
How many miles do you hike a day at the course? How long duration? Hour? Half hour? 2 hours?
Couple of questions on sizes. Is your ALICE med or LGE, ? What size is Space blanket ? Oh is your ALICE actual canvas or Nylon ? I want to get one of those myself.
I'm in Oz🇭🇲, I have LGE Auscam Alice. It seems to pack out and too far away from my body, pulling arch in my back. Maybe it's just a weight distribution adjustment thing.
Congrats on the Course and the video Mate
Cheers from Oz🇭🇲👍
Thank you. My pack is large an it's a Canvas style. Space blanket was 5x7.
They sell #36 bank line on self reliance outfitters in 100 rolls and 1lb rolls
Thank you. I definitely will order some from their page. Amazon must have labeled it wrong.
Did you have to carry your tent the entire time if you tent camp? Or can you put it away after the first night?
No. Your tent stays in place at camp, but you do carry the packing list with you the entire time.
Were you able to pick your partner for the course or did they just pair you up my cousin and I are going in June and would like to work together if possible
They just told us to pair up so we picked but I heard sometimes you don't get that option. Stick close to who you want to pair up with and you should get it.
Interesting vid but we have our own style n ways n nz a biT different than there
Sounds interesting and ive thought about it but ive no interest in going to Ohio.
From what i read those basic classes are $500 a person for 2 or 3 days.... i just cant wrap my head around paying that much to basically be homeless on Dave's property for 3 days esp what they are teaching is common sense stuff at the basic class and if a person needs to attend that class they have no place in the woods.. Dave is laughing all the way to the bank..What survival school did Dave go to?? he didnt.. which proves You dont need to go to some overpriced "school" to learn these skills, its a scam!! I have learned and mastered many knots just by reading practicing and perfecting FOR FREE..$500 for a piece of paper and a patch smh.. like i said, laughing all the way to the bank...i hope they fed you well for that price...
cryin like a Democrat, If you are such a professional and would NEVER WASTE your money on this course than why are you wasting your time watching this video.Go back to watching CNN
Congratulations on ur patch. New subb.
Thank you.
