    Very good choice of items. The only thing I am missing, is a medium sized swiss army knife. Sure, the multitool will provide similar capabilities, but the pocket knife will provide it faster and more convenient. And a Bundeswehr Field Stove would also be a great addition. No pertect, but it holds it own fuel for the size (and weight) of a card deck...

    Enjoyed the review and how you went over the gear in categories. This method lets you see what items can be used in conjunction with other gear and it simplifies organizing items per there individual group. I'm a fan of 511 gear. I currently own the Rush Moab 6 and 24 pack. I also use the Lima messenger bag when I teach during the week. What I like about the amp bag is the clam shell opening, you can unzip and view all your items at once, thats a game changer. 511 makes good, tuff gear, it definitely won't let you down. Im very pleased with my bags so far. Thx for sharing and best wishes to all. 😉👍

    This video came up on my feed, good kit!
    I teach prepping and security and am a big advocate of front loading (suitcase style) packs vs top loading (duffle bag) packs.
    The contents of the kit is well thought out, I too recommend most of what you showed.
    Medical kits should be readily available, so I recommend that they are either on the inner top or mounted to the outside of the pack.
    Fish mouth spreaders are good when boiling water.
    As a former Eagle Scout and current Scout leader, I use Boy Scout Merit Badge pamphlets as handouts covering most topics. They are easy to read and understand. I also recommend the BSA Field book for more in depth knowledge.
    And survival by the numbers =
    2 is 1 and 1 is none (redundancy of critical items).
    And remember the 3s:
    3 hours exposed to inclement weather
    3 days in hot weather without water
    3 weeks without food

    Nice start.
    I live in the north east so extra socks, beanie, gloves and pretty much head toe is critical. I also always keep Vicks rub.
    Vehicles get a tote and a back pack, hiking boots, you outfit from the vehicle and carry as close to 20 lbs each. Water is everywhere here so 3 ltrs and a filter is plenty. I didn't see signaling like a whistle and orange panel incase you need to increase rescue odds. I acknowledge your radios, lights, mirror and fire but a signal panel is set it and forgot it. Slingshots are light effective tools for travel.
    Final thought, I would ALWAYS choose a hip belted larger pack in a subdued color. By day 2 your going to thank me.

    • @preparednesshive
      @preparednesshive  Год назад

      Appreciate the feedback Jason! Clothing, or your "walking shelter", are super critical in colder climates for sure - I never leave the house without an extra layer! And you're right in that there will definitely be items that need added or swapped out depending on your specific location/environment. Slingshots are great and fairly easy to master, we just prefer a firearm if it's allowed in your area. And a hip belt is definitely a plus and more comfortable overall... the ability to drop the pack and flee quickly just ended up winning in terms of priority. Again, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge/experience!

    I call them my basic cross country road trip/bike-packing/camping bag. Basically, stuff you need when things go south. Otherwise, I shelter in place and have everything I need at home, or ready to church into the car to high-tail it if necessary in a few minutes. Where I live, we typically have ample warning to evacuate (hurricanes). Most of them aren’t much different than a through-hike backpack.

    Really great bag. For my greater area I need a much more bulky bag during almost all seasons. Even in late spring, early autumn it can drop to 5°C (32°F) with lots of rain and wind. That makes me almost always packing my Carinthia Observer, a real 3 Season sleeping bag and a sleeping pad. If its winter, I need to amp that up with a really really bulky winter sleeping bag. All in all my Get Home Bag weighs between 14-18kg (30-40lb) depending on season.

    Great video. I like the fact that you are including the people who normally do not know Bushcraft, etc. and are just getting started on preparedness. With that in mind, I’ve been watching the news and for the different scenarios that you do have to bug out. Generally you would have to seek shelter with other people probably set up by the city or the state that you live in. What do you do, if they don’t let you in with the weapons, i.e. guns knives, etc. I’m assuming they will check for weapons before they allow you to go in with the rest of the group?

    • @preparednesshive
      @preparednesshive  Год назад

      Appreciate the feedback, and great question! First, I commend you for thinking about this now instead of having to react when the time comes... you're two steps ahead of most already. Having a plan, or multiple plans for that matter is absolutely imperative! To answer your question directly, yes - they will almost certainly take your weapons upon entry, and I would not plan to see these again for the most part. The top two things that come to mind here are 1 - Mutual Assistance Groups (MAGs); and 2 - Survival Caches. If you don't have or belong to a MAG, we have an article on our site that talks about all the details around the importance of these, especially in a bug out scenario. Being part of a MAG would mean that you have a location you're going to rather than a shelter, which is far more ideal, and likely safer for that matter. If you're not part of a MAG, and/or just plan to go to a local shelter of sorts, you may want to consider integrating a survival cache somewhere along your planned route to get there. Survival caches are simply a buried or hidden sealed container with some important "cached" items (couple of meals, firearm(s), ammo, water filter, fire kit and maybe some form of shelter, depending on your environment). This can be tricky in an urban environment of course as there's no place to really bury or hide anything without the risk of losing it. There are some creative ways around this though... We'll be launching a video in the next few weeks talking about these, so be sure to tune in if you think this might help you! Hope this helps!

Food storage (long and shorter term), water storage and procurement methods, skills that could benefit during a grid down scenario whether minor impact such as a few days power outage all the way to an EMP scenario, home security (securing windows/doors, video cameras, deterrents such as dogs, brush, objects). Have you guys made anything for like the tropics? Humid, mosquito filled, hurricanes, hot places?

    • @preparednesshive
      @preparednesshive  Год назад +1

      If you're asking about a bug out bag in general, a lot of the basics we included in this pack will apply in hotter environments as well, especially when it comes to water and shelter. You will have to carry more water storage than most assuming you'll be losing it much quicker, so collapsible water bottles like these (amzn.to/40AMq9O) are great for BOBs. In addition to staying hydrated, be sure to account for salt loss with excessive sweating as well. With your food intake likely being unpredictable during a a bug out situation, it's hard to tell how much salt you'll be replenishing along with your water intake. Packing extra electrolyte packets or simply some extra table salt (iodized) will keep your body in better balance and prevent hyponatremia. As for shelter, you're obviously going to want something with a mosquito net, so a hammock might be a good option with a tarp covering. Extra socks to keep your feet dry, and be sure your body is fully covered (both for mosquito mitigation and exposure). Lots more to share, but feel free to hit us up on the website and we can try to hone in a little more on your specific scenario :)

    I'm trying to start prepping and it's super expensive for some of the more decent items and being a single mom I just don't have the money. Any tips for getting good items for cheap?

    • @preparednesshive
      @preparednesshive  Год назад +2

      Second hand items are always a great way to start. Facebook marketplace, craigslist, ebay, etc. are all good options - sometimes people sell lots of "used camping gear" that will have all kinds of gems included. For a more long-term plan though, figuring out a way to generate a little side hustle income is your best bet. I'm sure this sounds impossible as a single mom, but there are TONS of opportunities these days if you know where to find them. Try searching for "top side hustles" or similar and see what you can dig up that feels doable - lots of them only require a computer and your time, which might have to be early morning or late evenings while the kiddo's are sleeping.
      I know in my case, my little one is my biggest motivation on the daily... the thought of something happening and not being able to support him is enough to keep me going all through the night at times... in any case, feel free to reach out via the website if you need help prioritizing as you begin your journey and/or if you're just looking for some moral support. Our stage 1 guide (bit.ly/GuideStage1) is a great place to start too. We're here to help!

      Great to hear you got some value out of the content, although I can’t promise anything regarding INCH bags anytime soon. In fact, I’m more of a proponent of utilizing bugout bags and survival caches (which we’ll be releasing a video about soon) with a planned location(s) in mind. If a SHTF scenario comes about, I really don’t want to have to rely on one pack to get me though. Whether I have to book it and flee at a moments notice, or maybe even get robbed by a larger group, I think it’s smarter to diversify if you can. That said, if you’re looking for more creative options to include in your pack, hit us up on the website and we continue the convo there - always open to supporting anyone who’s interested in being more prepared :)
