Ironically, Jon's little rant has reawakened an urge for Chicago-style deep dish pizza that I haven't had since I was in Chicago ten years ago.
Found a place here in LA, and the pizza was delicious.

DHSswimming go drown in your deep dish. This whole video is petty as fuck. Jon's argument is it's not pizza. Been to Chicago have to say the crust tastes like shit and the sauce is chunky and gets cold way to quickly. And yeah good luck eating that shit while walking down the street. Talk about how NY pizza is to soggy, all you gotta do is hold it up and let it drip down in the plate and it's fine. Deep dish has like a fucking gallon of tomato sauce on it and once it gets cold it is cold tomato sauce on a oil drenched biscuit. No appreciation for the cheese whatsoever or toppings for that matter if you get them they bobbing around in the pool of sauce. Classic example of taking a good thing and blowing everything to the extreme and that somehow makes it better? Nah bro take your not pizza stuff it up YOUR ass

@@Chuey616 Wrong Chuey. Pizza in Italy has now become like Italian-American pizza. Originally, pizza in Italy was a peasant food of flat bread brushed with olive oil, garlic, oregano, tomatoes, and maybe some protein if they could manage it. The "toppings" were a small percentage of the pie. Italian immigrant restaurant owners developed what we know as pizza in New York, Jersey, and Connecticut. Pizza did not really come from Italy directly, but was imported back from Italian American immigrants.

To me, I wouldn't say any region's pizza is better than the other. I love pizza. I've loved pizza since I was a little girl. Whether it's Chicago, New York, St. Louis, Hawaiian, Thai-style, etc. pizzas, it's ALL GOOD to me. If it's prepared and baked good and has tasty ingredients, then I'm a happy camper. I will never understand the pizza wars. Why do some people have to put down other region's pizza? Be thankful that we are blessed to have many food options and choices.
Some people live in regions in this world where they are starving or are refugees in war-torn regions and they don't have the luxury to even order any pizza whatsoever. I'd think that people in poor or desolate regions of this world would be happy to even have any pizza. This evening, I had a Chicago-style pizza, Sicilian style. I shared it with my parents. It was good. Almost two weeks ago, I had a Brooklyn - New York style veggie pizza. I shared it with my sister. It was tasty. Pizza is all good to me.
Pizza is one of the best foods in this world. If I had to have a last meal on Earth - it would be Pizza, some Thai food, and some fries, most likely. I'm just happy that I live in a country - the U.S. - where I can order and buy affordable pizza and have my choices of pizza places to go. I haven't visited Chicago since June 2013. The next time I'm in Chicago, I will most definitely visit Giordano's and Lou Malnati's. I haven't tried either of them. But those two pizza places are mentioned the most.
In St. Louis, President Obama, who has lived in Chicago for a long time before he became U.S. President, said he liked the pizza at Pi Pizzeria in St. Louis. I have yet to visit there. But I heard so many good things about Pi Pizzeria in St. Louis. Also, there is St. Louis style pizza with Provel cheese at Imo's pizza chain restaurants in St. Louis. And I have had Hawaiian pizza in Hawaii, and Thai-style pizza in Thailand. There's even a Thai pizza place in St. Louis. And Indian pizza from some Indian restaurants in the U.S. I just like and try to respect and appreciate each U.S. region or international country's style of pizza and adopt the "When in Rome" attitude when visiting places. I think each region has good cuisine. Sure, I'm from the MIdwest, and I'm always going to support and have the most love for anything from the Midwest. I love Chicago and St. Louis. But I also appreciate New York pizza as well and any region's pizza across the world, too. JMO. Have a nice weekend. Pizza just makes this world a better place. It's all good! :-)

For the record Giordano's is stuffed pizza, that's the Chicago pizza we don't tell our guests about. In Chicago Pizza terms stuffed pizza is the adult son who lives in the basement. Deep dish pizza is amazing. Stuffed pizza is what happens when you forget you can't cook bread under a liquid.
Chicago is a place as big as a state and is swimming in pizza at There are more pizza places than churches in the city of Chicago and there are 4 church on every street.
With all of those minds and all of this time we have invented four unique kinds of pizza. The Golden child, deep dish pizza done Uno's way(but only the one Uno's downtown next to Dues and absolutely no other Uno's. If you know You Know). Then there's the most common Pizza eaten by actual locals Chicago style crispy medium thickness square cut thin crust these are amazing(if you want a treat try extra cheese half ground beef(not sausage), half chicken medium barbecue sauce, you're welcome). Third is the delectable but always under portioned Homerun Inn style slightly flaky golden crusted Pizza. The slightly sweet sauce is a piece of perfection every time. Still square cut don't mess with the Best cut. Finally last and definitely least is stuffed pizza a bland crackery crust but also somehow it also tastes like white bread while feeling like crackers. It's filled with a huge amount of cheese which is delightful but usually a little lower quality. Toppings are whatever you want and then a second piece of dough and on top of that dough a marinara sauce not crushed tomato mix like we use on normal deep dish. No! marinara, like whats underneath a normal Pizza(type two on this list). With absolutely no thought given to how having a liquid sauce on top of bread dough might affect the baking. Meaning that when You're a delicious slightly crumbly flavorful deep dish pizza who instead of served a very heavy slightly bland pie(and I mean that in the Thanksgiving sense). Sure the cheese is good but on top of that cheese is a soft noodle(for lack of a better word) covering it. On top of which you find essentially a bowl of sauce separated from the glorious cheese by a wet noodle of dough.
Do not fall for the propaganda of Giordano's do not trust this man's words although John Stewart was scurrilous and ignorant in his condemnation of Chicago Pizza. This man's Pizza is everything Jon Stewart claims is true of all other Chicago pizzas, and he does not speak for us.

Ive watched John Stewart's clip 10 freaking times, and at no point was John talking bad about Chicago *people* - not once. The closest thing was the murder reference, and he immediately made fun of NYC afterwards too. Unlike this video, where these people attack Stewart *personally*, as well as 2 entire *states*. #1: NYC isnt 'New York'. Get a map. #2: The remarks made about 'getting out of New York' and all that are just pathetic - are you kidding me?! What Chicago's unemployment rate? What it's crime rate? Whats the weather like? And Florida?!? BA-HAHAHAHA!! and finally #3: He's absolutely right: you shouldnt need a fork to eat a god damn pizza!?! Thats a 'deep dish pizza' - not a 'pizza'. C'mon.. common sense here.. A slice of pizza is supposed to be able to be *picked up* Cripes!!

I hope you realize that in Chicago, we have thin crust pizza too. John Stewart did insult us, thinking we're idiots calling Deep dish "pizza," because it actually is pizza. You can pick up deep dish with your hands, it just takes experience.

Better than Malnati's response, and while we're at it, Giordano's has better pizza. But Stewart is right about one thing. You don't leave sauce naked on top. Here in Sacramento, I make my own stuffed pizza with cheese inside AND on top of the sauce. Now THAT'S good eatin'. I also make my own Pizza Pot Pie. Don't need to fly to no Chicago for the best. Got it right here. Go Blackhawks!

I used to think it deep dish and stuffed pizza looked disgusting until I actually tried it. It's different and delicious. I've never had authentic New York Style pizza so I won't comment on that. I think the closest thing to New York style pizza in Chicago would be the pizza at Piece, which is good. I actually prefer Chicago style thin crust over either. Thin, square cut, crispy, not foldable/soggy, loaded with toppings.

    • @DavidGerst312
      @DavidGerst312 11 лет назад +2

I've had both, and they both are excellent. Not sure why it has to be one or the other. Some days I want thin pizza. some days I want the deep dish. Best part about Chicago is you can get it all here, even some good knock off NY Style pizza. However, you can't find good Chicago style pizza anywhere outside of Chicago. They claim Chicago style, but it's definitely not!

David Gerst I take offense to your comment. I live near Phoenix and we have Rosati's (from Chicago) here and they have a very good deep dish pizza. I know Chicago pizza. I lived there over 50 years.

    • @kexada007

No because New York pizza is original pizza. Besides 8,000,000 people agree with john steward. And the poor little population of Chicago of 3,000,000 people disagree with him. Italian pizza, la pizza, Miami pizza. All these cities are in the cool pizza group. Chicago. It ain't in that group.

As a Southerner that has had both, deep dish pizza is nasty! It's just too much at once. The dough texture seems off, there is too much sauce, and I can't believe I am saying it, but too much cheese. The comparison to a lasagna is pretty spot on. I'm sure some people like it, but it's just not a comparison.
