I used to think this way too, but then I started thinking about all the awful pack filler archetypes that come out of the OCG, and realized that the TCG and OCG have about the same percentage of good and awful archetypes that come out of them.

I've seen the video Galli is referring to, and it's just... interesting. It's a deck that can beat top tier stuff, while losing to rogue shit. It's weird.

The salt on the wound is that there's an archetype that shows what War Rock could've been and that is the Ancient Warriors archetype.

I'm one of the three fans, I'm having fun with them to be honest ! I know it's not the best deck out there, but for a beginner like me, it help me to start this game
I like War Rocks a lot tbh. My proudest moment is the time I managed to buff chain into being able to directly punch a Chaos MAX Dragon in the face. Was one of the most satisfying moments I’ve had in Master Duel.

War Rock is apparently the most broken archetype
Every War Rock card has this secret line of text on it that's only revealed when heated to approximately 200 degrees celsius. It reads "While this card is in your deck, your opponent may only activate 1 effect per turn for their first 2 turns, unless your hand contains fewer than 1 'War Rock' monster"
When did we allowed hate for cool designed cards that are warrior be and not to the current cancerous meta deck.

War Rock will NEVER be the worst deck, after all it CAN kill, it has A negate, it actually FUNCTIONS and has a clear gameplan unlike some decks, even if said Gameplan is just punch them good, and it isnt Arcana Force so that inherently makes it not the worst deck. Buuut...damn, Lair Of Darkness really do got hands huh?
Lair can be really annoying if you're not prepared or know what it does.
It has functions sure but those are majorly crippled. War rock is like a person with down syndrome.
Its definitely not the worst archetype to be ever made(I think that title goes to either steelswarms or genex or iron chains)it's just what were they smoking recently to make it? Battle archetypes have almost never been successful(anybody remember battle wasp other then it's tech ins with beetroopers?) They keep thinking it will be successful or something even though they almost never really innovate for it, I mean a searcher is cool in battle phase(because the great thing about that is it can't actually be negated) and other things the rocks have going for them but there still lies the problem that the earth warrior instead of "war rock" and other things mess the deck up. And the only one I can think of right now that innovated on in anyway was super heavy samurai, attacking in defence is literally THE BIGGEST we've gotten and literally NO super heavy deck uses not a lot of those synchros right now unless it's a pure build because of the new monsters and also even then I wouldn't consider that archetype particularly battle focused.
Like I really feel like battle archetypes are stuck in the past, they don't bother to innovate battle archetypes and that bothers me, once again I ask why not a single battle archetype can treat every phase as a pseudo battle phase and gain effects based on the phases they attack in. It can even be lunar themed so battle phase is full moon where they're their most strongest but you still have to find time to strategically attack during other phases to get the most out of em and they can't attack in any other phase that turn(unless conditions apply to permit them to do so) or they all can have different phases their strong in.
Why no battle archetypes have gem-knight citrine's effect for every monster above a certain level and also are particularly hard to get rid of because a card also has to outdo it in attack before it can be destroyed or banished by card effects of monsters, spells, or traps(unless it's a trap monster all spells and traps count as 0/0.) It would make the archetype a bit annoying to deal with but I think this having a big ass monster that has this so it can say HAHA to most board wipe monsters, spells, and traps could be interesting. I would also say make the biggest boss gain attack and shit to make it harder but I think that would be too hard to get rid of, let's not do it too much.
Those are the ideas I have but Konami is unironically unkonami when coming up with battle archetypes and it SHOWS. They're all fuckin balanced and the fact that none have been broken since the past is my reasoning. Konami can make some cool shit when they can come up with it, but it's either busted out the ass, really unique, or ass even if it is unique. Like c'mon Konami, give us a good battle archetype PLEASE. It won't fucking kill you to make it good either.
Among LotW decks that didn't get support like Meklord and Nordic, Arcana Force is still unplayably bad, hopefully LIGHT Duelist Pack swoops in for it, Ally of Justice just isn't a deck; even Catastor fell off for modern game. Early Duel Terminal was experimental even for 5D's era, and I'm sure War Rocks is leagues beyond the decks of that time.

They are way above Genex and Iron Chains because they are part of the lswarm archetype meaning they have access to Evilswarm stuff, ignoring Evilswarm is like ignoring Double X Saber when you are talking about X Saber

I play Earth Machines and died to a Lair of darkness deck because I couldn't special summons or trigger any effects because they all required the monsters to be Earth type.
It's so frustrating.

The archetype plays like something made in 2008 and from what playing with it I've done it's ironically most effective when you actually PLAY IT like it's 2008. Before the release of the extra support cards I made a deck I half-lovingly refereed to as "War Rock Burn" which made use of a lot of generic warrior support, the War Rocks for bodies, spells were mostly just solid generic removal cards and rota, but the trap lineup consisted mostly of negation like Solemns and Broken Line supported by a backbone of Magic Cylinder, Ring of Destruction, and Dimension wall. It was stupid, but the absolute fear and mind games pulled through disturbingly well.
I wanted to build war rocks for fun but there's too many UR/SR. No chance I'll waste that many gems of war rocks

Even now they're decent rogue deck. I did easy dlvl climb in kc cup last time with them. One of decks that goes well with Balance. Gonna be harder this time because popular decks like DM, PK counter them. On flipside they shit on Timelords if that annoying deck gets played a lot.

Literally just made a War Rock deck myself, just to see this video come out.
One main difference is that I play Terminal World in my deck. It doesn't always happen, but if you get War Rock Medium, War Rock Meteroagon, and Terminal World on the field, it can really shut down various combo decks.
I kinda wanna see you try Gimmick Puppets and see if that's worse.

Rookie Warrior Lady was literally made for War Rocks.
Summon Limit is actually very good in War Rock, as you're likely not going to summon more than twice yourself.
Terminal World is hilarious in the deck because of Medium.
Wento at two is better.
Because of the rank 4 toolbox, the lack of Zeus is interesting.
Pot of Extravangance is interesting (Not bad, not great, just interesting).
Didn't initially see Bashileos in the deck (okay at zero, one, or two, three is overkill).
If you run a Bashileos or two, Aussa's channeler version is decent in the deck, as Bashileos can summon itself from the GY.
Kaiza the Hidden Star is an option over Orpis (Orpis is bad anyway).
Heroic Champion - Claivesolish is fucking hilarious for the deck.

But, yeah, the battle effects requiring both attribute and type hurts the deck A LOT. It having been just any monster (or just warriors) would've been better, while the attack increase (which stacks, so five on board results in 1k for all of them after the first swing if none of them are Gactos or Wento) being 200 isn't the main focus of the effect, it's suppose to be, quote, "icing on the cake". That said, Bashileos' effect is easily the worst, as it requires another EARTH Warrior to swing first. If his effect was at the start of the battle phase, while you have another War Rock *card,* it could attack directly, it'd be... ehh... still better than the shit he's got right now.
Another problem with the deck is similar to a problem Witchcrafters had for a while. That being that extra deck is kinda just there... no in-archetype stuff going on.

To be fair, I'm diamond and warrock has been whooping tear, spright, and sky strikers. You just need to know how to play them. Sometimes it's also better to run the archetype without staples, best to have a save with and without staple cards

I used them on duel links with junk cards since I don't have enough gems to get better cards. Ironically they are very good for auto farm npc and half of the rotating events since they are flexible with rank 4 and synchros level 6-8.

I played vs someone yesterday that had royale, lubelion, fusion, albaz, agido and mirror jade, d that's just what I seen him play. I felt so poor in that moment but also a little cope cause it's random so that guy had to be super lucky as well, japanese account aswell

As awful as War Rocks can be, at least they have a game plan to work towards. The goop they throw at new players for the start of the game doesn't even do that much until you supplement it with some Solo Mode prizes, then you can at least attempt to do some World Chalice stuff.
War Rock isn't the worst Farfa took it to Plat 1.

I only began MD 2 weeks ago and already reached Diamond 3 with Myutant and Weather Painters, most opponents don't know what they're doing until you reach Dia V.
Please tell me you don't use floodgates for weather painters

War rock is bad but not as bad as people make them out to be. I will say that they have a fun nostalgic playstyle. Definitely outdated but their simplicity is appreciated.
