Thank Christ is all can say. As to "cancelled" it was never on the cards at al (thank fuck for that). If you want to really watch this movie, watch it in the original Japanese and not some shitty translation
The only film in the entire Studio Ghibli collection that Miyazaki himself stated that he wanted to do a direct sequel for. It's his personal favorite and it's sad it never made it past the planning stage.
Miyazaki-san is obsessed with classical aviation. I'd argue this is more of a passion project for him than even The Wind Rises which has a more pessimistic tone than this film.
Suzy, there's a clue about the ending in the overhead shot of Gina's island home while Fio narrates. Briefly, you can see that Porco's red seaplane is docked to the back of the property.

One of the best reactions to this movie I have seen, especially the realization of "survivor's guilt" explanation of the curse. In fact all of Suzy Lu's analysis after the film was even better than the reaction during the movie itself. Well done! This is one of my favorite Ghibli films too.
If anyone really wants to know if Marco eventualy went to meet Gina or not, pause at 1:07:28 and observe the right side pier of the island which is connected directly to Gina's secret garden. If your resolution is high enough you might be able to see a familiar plane anchored...
....and the final shot in Gina's garden shows she is not sitting there waiting for him.

The answer to how Gina's bet turned out can be seen if you look closely at the final scene where the jet flies into the Hotel Adriano.
You will see a familiar red blimp docked at the Hotel Adriano in daylight.
In this video, it's around 1:07:27.
A quote from Fio when Porco was telling his story of the planes going to heaven, "God was telling you it wasn't your time yet". Suzy, this movie brought me to tears as well.

Porco was the only survivor in the war, and when he returned to Italy he was seen as a selfish for not dying with the rest of the pilots - in another words, a "pig". So he decided to leave the country, which is why the Italian police want to arrest him. So you were pretty spot on! Thanks for the great reaction ❤
I think he cursed himself into the pig, like he chose to live life a pig and so he became one
something for about the final, when the plane is over the Adriano Hotel, appears parking a red plane, in the original traduction Fio says that Porcco never appears again, but not said anything about Marco Pavot, the theory says that he finally decide to being human again after to remember the love and feel proud by himself and not guilty about the lost of his friends.

This film is so underrated, It's one of my favourites.

主人公もヒロインも敵役も脇役も空に昇った戦友達も、皆バランスよく巧みな緩急をつけたストーリー展開で心に沁みます。
最終的にポルコがなぜ豚になったのかはそれほど重要な事ではないかもしれません。
少なくとも彼はカーチスとの決闘とジーナの台詞の後、やっと自分の人生と向き合える事が出来た。そこで彼はやっと自分を縛っていた呪縛から解き放たれ、止まっていた時が動き出したのだと個人的に思っています。

Porco Rosso is one of my favorite films. While at first glance it is a silly action film filled with dogfights and daring, underneath there is a message of honor, friendship, and deeper still self-forgiveness. For a movie who’s selling point was a man cursed to be a pig, the curse never seemed to be a priority, just a symbol of how we change based on how we see ourselves.
I'm quite fond of Suzy's gradual realisation and understanding of Marco's character. That moment when it hits her that his curse could be self-inflicted by survivor's guilt was palpable.
One of my favorite movies. It's a world I can only dream of, never experience.
Don't be sorry at all, Suzy - I thought you'd be touched by that moment with the planes ascending to "heaven", but how much you responded did take me by surprise.
It's given me pause to think more about Marco's development over the movie - I'd always just taken it as a "princess and the frog" moment when Fio kisses him, but when also considering his learning of Gina's affection for him, it makes me think it more likely that he's wilfully choosing to revert to human form again, rather than being transformed. As Steejo said, he's a pig as long as he sees himself as one - perhaps that moment when Fio sees him at night is a rare moment when he's not lost in his own miserable cynicism - and the final moments seem to confirm that Fio and Gina's love help him no longer see himself that way anymore.
Great movie, great reaction - looking forward to seeing what other movies, especially any Ghiblis, you've got coming. And also, thanks to you and/or your editor for reworking the first two versions of this video - I didn't actually mind the one with the overlapped dubs, but I guess better to have the cleaned-up version for posterity.
The end is up to interpretations! He could have came back as a human but his friend maybe told him that because he was hit in the face but he stays a pig. Or maybe it's metaphorical as Suzy says, it's just he believes he is a pig because all his friends died so everyone sees him as a pig. You know when you believe too strongly something and everyone sees you this way under this label because you put this label on yourself. At the end of the movie we can see that he got this label out
I noticed that some scripts have been changed.
For example, the scene where Porco was on the phone with Gina. In the Japanese version, Porco tells Gina to tell Curtis that he will see her again next time. Gina says, "Eventually you will be roast pork. I don't want that kind of funeral."
There is no mention in the Japanese version of Porco having a warrant out for his arrest until the movie theater scene.
You really got this movie, seeing you moved by it was powerful
At the end you can see Poco 's red plane by the resturant. He did visit there after.
Gotta love how Cary Elwes, a Brit, plays the American in the movie.

Unfortunately some of the lines get lost in translation to make sense for the audience, one of them is here 39:25. Far as I am aware Ferrari is actually quoting a saying which goes something like "why throw pearls in front of pigs!" It is such a well fitted saying matching to this movie and it is slightly heart breaking that it got lost along the way! Still a great movie!!!! 10/10!!

すごいな・・大人になって見るとすごく理解して感じれるのがうらやましい・・。私が生まれた日からこの映画はあって、赤ちゃんの時から毎年見てたから感動とかもうなかった・・。でも今回初めて英語の吹き替えで見てSuzyと一緒にみて改めて大人の自分としてみて感動することができた・・。ありがとう・・。

この映画も32年ほど経って、ポルコの年齢にも近づいて来ましたね（笑）
人の数だけ経験があって、また感じ方もそれぞれかと思いますが、ふと見返す度にその時の自分や近しい人と重ねるとまた違う気持ちで観られるので本当にいい作品だと思います。
