I’m not sure if you guys, or the viewers, noticed but at the beginning Howl said “Oh there you are, I’ve been looking everywhere for you” and that’s bc he remembered Sophie from the past 😭😭😭 one of the reasons this movie makes me happy cry so much.

Howl is such a drama queen, I love him. He dyed his hair the wrong color and said "what's the point of living anymore" lmao

The spell in Sophie was like that when she don't show her true feelings she's going to look older (maybe how she looks herself or something like that), that's why in the movie she's always changing from old to young, u can see this clearly when Sophie is talking with Howl in the Secret Garden and she turn older because she hide her feelings and when she sleeps she don't have anything to hide

Sophie in the book has a power. What she intends, she wills into being. So when making hats, if she intended the wearer to be the most beautiful in the room, the wearer would become the most attractive woman in the room. It's why their hat shop was so popular. So, when she tells Calcifer to live without Howl's heart, he lives.

Howl had a reputation for looking for beautiful women bc he was looking for Sophie. Which is ironic bc she didn't have any confidence in herself but she was the beauty Howl was looking for this whole time. I also think that whenever she feels confident is when she turns young. It's almost as if this whole movie is actually about learning to be confident in yourself bc while you might think you're ugly there is always someone else who sees you as beautiful.

Honestly, Turniphead being the missing prince is literally only explained in one line of background dialogue that's extremely easy to miss. One of the weaker parts of a wonderful film.

The man who created Studio Ghibli lived through the Firebombings of Tokyo in WW2 and Grave of the Fireflies is based on his childhood experiences, including losing his siblings and parents. His feelings on war are definitely a big influence in his works

I've seen this film at least 100 times but I was still swooning and sighing throughout it like a lovesick girl. Ah, well... 🥰

Sophie when in Howl’s childhood: “It’s Sophie! Find me in the future!”

Turniphead and him being a prince was very confusing on the first watch but if you listen near the start just before Sophie runs into the two guards theres someone who says "the prince from the neighbouring kingdom is missing" and him being missing was the reason this war started.

I think the line "I give up. I see no point in living if I'm not beautiful" is rather sad. At least that's how I interpreted. We feel almost forced to fit into that category, otherwise people treat us differently. But I get why almost every reactor laughed, it sounded a little dramatic 😂

A bit of a spoiler but in the book Sophie is magic! She can speak things to life. And her putting herself down all the time is what causes her to stay old even after howl says the curse should have broken. Howl is also... way, WAY whinier in the book😂 And sophie is very stubborn and angry. She ruins howl's favourite suit just to get back at him.

Fun facts: In the book, Howl is actually Welsh and his full name is "Howell Jenkins" (he adopted the Pendragon lastname because he likes it more than Jenkins lol), used to play rugby when he was in college, has a sister, a niece, and a nephew obsessed with videgames Howl provides with his magic. The black door gave him way home to Wales as it is a parallel dimension to the book's.

Nothing gives away that Christian Bale is the voice of Howl more than that scene where he is stuck in his bird monster form and he said "You can't even break your own spell" in like the exact same raspy batman voice XD "WHERE ARE THEY!?"

Calcifer is Howl's heart...so whenever he speaks like "be gentle with me" it's actually howl speaking in a way.
