I really appreciate the new stuff posted on youtube. Tom and the Heartbreakers are my salvation these days. I probably spend too much time obsessing over watching these videos over and over. The concerts that are on youtube is what I live for. Yep obsessed broken hearted fan right here!
@@suemordenti6040 well let's see, we know it's Winstan was there. So that's pretty young. I don't know myself. Good question to know. I've been saving a lot of them and posting them into my own you know Account. But at least they were eating then. And had a roof over their head. And that good stuff. Working hard as he says he's a hard-working man.
A great group effort on this one. Benmont rocks the keyboard, Stan hits those drums like there’s no tomorrow, Mike makes you believe that guitar is just part of his body, and Tom, cool and sleek as always, mesmerizes. A wonderful song. Would love to go back there again.
Listening to the HEARTBREAKERS helped me driving to Gainesville, for pre transplant evolution. Hard and scary times. ( I WON'T BACK DOWN) made me keep fighting . 🙏 and FAITH
Tom said that Stan was bitching and complaining all the time I guess since Full Moon Fever came which was 89. He clearly was not happy for not asked about playing at that album. My guess is their problems really had started there and finally he left the Band. He was not kicked out. He just stop coming to rehearsals anymore. So can said he left the group. That is really though and good version of this song. Also because of Stans great hormonies and very tight drumming. My favourite time in their career.

Can anyone tell me which concert this video is from and whether the whole concert is on RUclips? I have seen so many videos of Tom wearing this same shirt and jeans and assume they are together somewhere.
He must have worn the same outfit a lot on the Long After Dark tour. If the clips the Petty channel posted are from one concert, the closest setlist fit is Santa Cruz, CA on Sept. 1 1982. Their (shorter) US festival set in Bakersfield CA on Sept. 4 1982 is on RUclips in entirety.

I didn't go but in Aug of 83' saw Def Leppard at the Forum in LA. 1981-1983 was a pivotal time in music with rock being replaced (For the most part), with New Wave, and especially on the west coast. Long hair was out overnight, and teenagers wore the silly preppy outfits with diamond plaid sweaters wrapped around their waist or shoulders, many sporting penny loafers. I thought all of that was so completely lame, but over the next few years rock was also lame with Ratt, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot leading the charge. VH got much softer with Jump, and most 70s bands were in hibernation. IMO if it wasn't for Motley's 1st album, and later Guns And Rose's 1st, R&Roll could have died on the vine. All of what was going on in the 70s that as a kid I thought was so cool, long hair, the surfer look, etc etc was now old hat and replaced by the Reagan money/clean cut era. Won't ramble much further, but I see all of this pc woke nonsense doing a 180 in the near future, the same way "all that was 70s" went away 40 years ago.
1982/83 was my Freshman yr in HS, and I had skipped 8th grade to be with my friends so I was only 13 years old until December. I remember being in general math and the guy in front of me had an US Festival 82' shirt and remember Tom Petty was listed I believe first, with the other acts under him, and thought damn I'd have liked to be there, but don't even remember any advertising for it. Then in the spring they announced the big 1983 US Festival that Steve Wozniac? the guy that co-founded Apple with Steve Jobs put on.

Yeah, we want to. see adorable Tom. Youth is too fleeting to miss it.
That would be former Mudcrutch singer Jim Lenehan.

The original title for Hard Promises was apparently “Benmont’s Revenge”!

2024, anyone?
I'm not much on mystery
Yeah you gotta be careful what you dream
I thought this might pass with time
Yeah I thought I was satisfied
But oh baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It don't matter what you say
It don't matter what you do
I , I, I, got a thing about you
Somewhere deep in the middle of the night
Lovers hold each other tight
Whisper in their anxious ears
Words of love that disappear
But oh baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It don't matter what you say
It don't matter what you do
I, I, I, got a thing about you
Baby you own some strange control over me
Yeah it's so wild it hypnotizes me
Raise both hands
But oh baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
Baby let me tell you, I got a thing about you
It don't matter what you say
It don't matter what you do
I, I, I, got a thing about you
Always love when Mike plays a Les Paul
raw talent in its prime
Love this!❤

Between originals, and the ability to cover essentially anyone, among the best, tightest, most musically inclined bands of all time.
Luv this song ! I do believe I saw this concert at Providence Civic Center or Boston Garden in 81 ! 😳😃😁
I'm drinking ! didn't realize I posted earlier !😳😂
Who is the drummer?
Stan Lynch - original heartbreaker from Gainesville. Steve Ferrone, who you’re probably use to, was not an original.
@@ecstone28 An overdue thank you to you from me for that information.
This would have been a great duet with Stevie Nicks
