Great video Teancum, thank you. Glad you said "..is it perfect?...no because I'm still learning the technique...". It still looks 100% better than mine and I've been "learning" for a few of years now🥰. When will I ever get mine to look like that. I don't hand sew because my hand won't allow that sort of work so I have to do it by machine. Hopefully one day I will get it right.
I love you demos on all you're quilting projects. I'm always looking for different ways to do a finish binding on a project. It's always nice to see how other people finish binding. I will sometimes use different techniques from different people to finish off a binding on a project.
Great tutorial! I’ve quilted for 25 years and have always machine sewn binding to the front and hand sewn to the back. However, after buying a Juki TL 18QVP, I found that you can buy a presser foot specifically for attaching binding that has a left side guide, similar to some machines that have a guide on the ¼” foot. Presumably, other machine brands have this as an add on accessory as well. This foot has been a game changer for me in machine binding. It keeps the binding edge seam perfectly straight and when you see the back, it is very nearly ‘in the ditch’ of the front seam. If you keep same color thread as the project, it’s hardly noticeable. I still like to hand finish some projects, but that presser foot comes in handy at times. And I learned an alternative way to sew at the corners, so thanks for the video!
I’m learning binding too. You explained this great! This is the way I have bound my first 4 quilts. Mine aren’t perfect either but I have improved each time. 😊 Thank you for such a wonderful tutorial.
I’m SO GLAD I found a much easier way to join the binding strips at the end I’ll never do it this way again..twisting and turning your binding what a pain never mind doing the math. Your friend Tracy from @The Sewing Channel “ showed a few different ways. Come to find out the method she was showing has been around for about 10 years.
Thanks for the tutorial. This is the method I've adopted over the years. My only comment is I like a full binding so I either take a deeper seam (3/8") or leave a bit of overage when cutting the bottom and batting.
Totally agree. I don’t know if any other sewing machines have that foot available except for the Juki and the janome. I’m pretty sure the janome has it.
@dcwatashi not sure if it's the same but PTWT uses one on her Brother PQ1500 (?) from Ken's Sewing Center. They are for High Shank machines. So ur basic sewing machines are left out. Maybe one day someone will figure it out 😢
@@melanietaylor0401 I always keep forgetting, whether my Juki is a high or low shank. I think an easy way to remember this is that my Juki cost a lot of money therefore it is a high shank. 🤣🤣🤣😝💰💰💰
I hate hand sewing…I have a sewing machine…I should be allowed to sew my binding on, yet when I do…it does not always catch on the other side. Is there a trick so this does not happen anymore….please……
If you stitch on the front like he shows in the video, you will be able to see exactly where you need to sew. This is the same way I do most of my binding.

15:20 thanks for showing the final product, unlike every other machine binding tutorial.

Nothing new for me but had to tell you that you did a great job explaining the process!!😊😊
Awesome! Thank you! 😀
I love your tutorials. I always pick up something different.

Thank you so much!
Thank you for the pep talk at the end!😊
I might have to try this on a small wall hanging. I always hand bind my quilts, I just think it looks better! LOL
Hats off to you for that! Definitely give it a try 🙂
Great tutorial you did a good job explaining the process, thanks Teancum for sharing

Awesome tip!!!

Is so much easier if you don’t iron binding. I just go slow-adjust in seam if necessary. NO more missed areas from fabric slipping during ironing.
I agree, don’t iron the binding in half. Your project will be flatter, really
I do this also! Saves soooo much time!
🤔🤔🤔☺️😊
Excellent tutorial!
Thank you!

I'm learning and...don't like binding🥴 but I feel that with this tutorial🤩 I'll try with something small, thanks!
You can do this!!!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Actually, if you open and iron the seam on the straight ends, there isn’t much bulk.
That is what I sometimes do!
Good tip!
You did an amazing job 😊
Thank you! 😊
Great job Teancum. You speak our language. 😊
I try! 😃

Thanks for watching! 😀
Wonderful.explanation
Great tutorial.
Thank you! 😀
Use a left compensating foot. Stitches evenly and looks very professional.
Totally agree. I don’t know if any other sewing machines have that foot available except for the Juki and the janome.

Wow, this was really helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! 😀
I do it both ways. Large quilt on bias smaller quilt on straight. I have no se rules. But thanks for sharing your favorite way!
☺️☺️🤩💕😊
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
Exactly how I do my binding!
Great job thanks..
Awesome!
I missed something, what kind of cutting mat is that?! You can iron on it?!
You didn't miss anything, don't do what Teancum did!!!
A walking foot is also great to use for binding 🙂
🤩🤩☺️
Or get the Janome binding tool and make machine binding a breeze.
Where do I find that? Thanks in advance.
❤
"We're obviously assuming our quilt is square"
Yes, of course... All of my quilts are definitely square! 😅
Squarish 😃 mine too
😂😂😉🤩
its really weird of you Sew Yeah to reply to a 2 month old comment. Really weird.
Yikes! did you just iron on your cutting mat? Is that a special mat that takes the heat? Great tutorial, though
Yes, and yes!

Diagonal is better.
