      NBC was just as good however ABC/ESPN suck at it and I wish they would lose their rights to broadcast the NBA.

    Kareem’s interview was a sign the Lakers would lose. His language, both spoken and body said it all.

    I wish Byron Scott would have been healthy and available to play and Magic not injured in game 2. Being a die hard Lakers fan I still think the Pistons would have won in 6 or maybe 7 but definitely not a sweep. People forget the Lakers were even better in 1989 than 1988 they added Orlando Woodridge to the bench who played great that year and they went 11-0 thru the Western Conference playoffs before the injuries. Again I still think the Pistons would have won as they too were better and more experienced than 1988 and they acquired Mark Aguirre for Adrian Dantley which was a slight upgrade as Aguirre was a little younger and more athletic than Dantley was at that stage of his career. The Lakers were starting to age and slow down a little and the Pistons were a bit younger and the physicality they played with would wear on the Lakers. It would have been a solid series for sure if not for the injuries. I hated the Pistons but I give them their props. They earned their championships as they had to learn to beat the Celtics in the east and then the Lakers in the west before becoming the Champs.

      @Daniel Le Yes the 1990 Lakers weren't as good as the 1989 Lakers. No Kareem no Orlando Woodridge, not as deep off the bench and everybody a year older and there was turmoil by that time between players and Pat Riley. Again the 1989 Lakers went 11-0 thru the west and swept very good teams. Notice after Riley resigned they were able to make it back one more time to the Finals in 1991 under new coach Dunleavy but that was the end of their run as age caught up with them like the Celtics a few years earlier. The Bulls were hitting their stride as they finally got by the Pistons after five or six years of playoff defeats.

      Agreed. People also forget that even though thus series was a sweep, all 4 of the games were hotly contested and very much in doubt until the very end.

      I'm not sure they were better, but the Lakers' starting backcourt was out for the majority of the series, and they were 11-0 in the playoffs until the Finals, which included a win in Seattle after trailing 43-14.

      I loved these years. When you had to overcome a team through years of losing, then improve and get over the hump. Pistons finally get over Celtics, then Lakers. As the bulls were taking their lumps before getting passed the pistons, then Lakers. Nobody flip flopping teams, like Durant to warriors... What a joke that was... He still has no titles as far as I'm concerned

    The Captain Kareem Abdul Jabbar is the greatest Center of all time. The Lakers would have not gotten swept if Magic Johnson & Byron Scott never got injured. The 1989 Los Angeles Lakers team was stacked. They had: Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, A.C. Green, Big Game James Worthy, The Captain Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Michael Cooper, Mychael Thompson, Orlando Woolridge, Tony Campbell, &, More....

    So if Magic and Bryon Scott don't get hurt, do the Lakers still win this series?

    • @olschool121
      @olschool121 4 месяца назад

      They wouldn't get swept but keep in mind the same two teams played the in the finals before and Detroit should have won game 6. So even if Scott and Johnson were healthier they'd likely still lose. Most likely 5 or 6.

      in a league diluted by expansion and will all that great teams and players having aged with significant injuries. Vanquish hardly. More like right person, right place and right time
