NBA took down the games a few months after I uploaded them here.
19 June 1988 - WEYI TV 25 Saginaw CBS - 1988 NBA Finals Detroit Pistons versus Los Angeles Lakers game 6
I can't believe it's been over 35 years!
When I watch old games it makes me appreciate whoever invented the mini score box on the screen at all times
They don’t even show the score 90% of the time bruh
Damn in 2023 this version was of the NBA is far and away better than todays version.
Lol shut up
Well said
Amen!
No question.
No you just old as hell, and can’t expect change 😮
God, I was 7 years old and remember this vividly. When the NBA was about competition. I miss this!!!
Isiah's 3rd quarter. I was 11 years old, watched it live. I just turned 46. Still a Finals record.
I was born that year.Youve been here longer then me any idea why we are here? I don't remember asking
Una FINAL sencillamente IRREPETIBLE
I was 15....cried after game 7
@@jasonpeng33 Ditto. After all they had been through to get that close and not quite get there was tough. I loved when they played in the Silverdome. Sure it was a football stadium and they weren't the main tenant, but it was a huge advantage. Was one of the few places Larry Bird consistently played poorly. No other team could host a game and fit 40-45,000 people. It was so loud. In either '87 or '88 they managed to draw 63,000 for a regular season game against Boston. I went to 2 games there in the spring of 88. I miss the dome.
@maxpeck4154 yup..I always feel that Pistons team woulda been the first to 3 peat with a championship win in 88....game 6 was a stunner...Zeke turned it up
Game that came down to the last play. Right down to the wire.
The Forum was awesome! I miss watching games from this magnificent, unique, original and “fabulous,“ facility… There will never be another one!
Oh yeah, like going to the club.
The best part of the Forum was the type of defensive music they had -- the actual juke-beat to the defensive chant -- that was a great rhythm with the type of team the Lakers had.
@@plainsimple244 and it was an actual orchestra band playing live atop the arena! 🎺 🥁
@@TiltBrook Yeah I loved that bass along with that juke-tone and that drum .... Boomp... Boomp... Da-da-dant....Boomp... Boomp...Da-da-dant... Dant..Dant... Dada-da-dant....and in between the crowd chants: DE-FENSE!
Great...even hyped up the road team to score with that tone in the background.
I saw an AEW pro wrestling pay per view at the Forum last November, it was so fun and brought back great memories of going to see the Lakers as a young teen 😊
One the great games in the history of league. Legendary…
Isiah Thomas so tuff
Joe D is the most underrated 2 guard ever.
Only guy who could guard Jordan. Thats when you could use forearm. Plus his action in 96 olympics. Everyone was bitching about playing time. He told ? Not to play him to ease the pussy attitude. Was it Briwn who then told all the kids what he was willing to do. Selfish bunch. Like Rio. Nba guys rented a huge yacht to stay on. Only Durant hung with other US kids. From day 1 the girl who won Archery gold was only there 3 days. Woke up eating breakfest when Durant shows up like a normal guy. That inspired teams. He showed up at Beach Volleyball games from start. Hanging in the sides of stands. When he got noticed plus him staying in dorms he was getting press. Then Lebrin and rest started showing up but were just looking like they cared.
He was even better in the '89 Finals! All 3 Detroit guards could run the point and play the shooting guard! That, and their depth, made them tough to play!
He was a great team player
Yes
More like overrated
1988 champs lakers BABY‼️💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛
The game where the Pistons had a brawl in the dressing room at half time over who gets the'I'm going to Disneyland' spot after the game. Also the catalyst for Isiah getting Adrian Dantley traded the next year.
Imagine if Rodman put that shot up for the game-winner!
As much as I hate Laimbeer, his foul on Kareem's sky hook w/ :14 left was an atrocious call in a situation with so much at stake. it's terrible when officials alter the outcome of games by getting involved unnecessarily.
you mean like the MULTITUDE of flagrant fouls that the Pistons committed that weren't called??
The quote after the game, as I remember, was from "The Officials". "That was for the 20,000 cheap shots we didn't call." No social media or hot takes in those days. Everybody just moved on to Game 7.
Without those cheap shots Detroit would not have made it so far. @@3321far
Yea but he had it coming
Most people who've seen this feel the same way, and Detroit fans insist it was a setup by David Stern. Hugh Evans though, was a Hall of Fame referee and widely respected thoughout the league. I just think he blew this one.
Kareem was the greatest
I loved the 80's.
I’m the biggest Piston fan in the world. Bill did foul Kareem. That shoulder bump did it. I think what people are mad about is the fact that the game was letting the touches go on the whole game until that moment. So I get it.
It’s just like speeding in your car on the freeway and the cop stops you. 😮
Thank you for your comment. I’m a Lakers fan, but even the announcer says it’s a foul. Granted: it may not have been the hardest foul, but it was a foul. It probably would be a different story if he had jumped up and not towards Kareem. Also, Kareem was a master at drawing fouls. (The greatest players usually are.) There was still time for the Pistons to win the game, and they could have won Game 7.
f i x e d ! absolutely no foul @1:51:27
Contact foul 1.51.54 it was foul Bill to Kareem
AMEN, BROTHER
Introduced by long time Lakers public address announcer, Lawrence Tanter.
AC Green huge on defense altering Dumars shot made him miss badly.
What a game
156:59 Im not sure if Magic liked that question when you see the way he ends his interview with Pat O' Brien but Pat O handled it good.
THIS Lakers squad would've SWEPT Jordan and the Bulls in a Finals series!! They were a pale SHADOW of this roster in '91!!
Daly should not have taken that timeout at 0:45.
AMEN
AMEN 🎉
That was a bullshit call on lamberr
As a huge Lakers ‘ fan, I am amazed how the Lakers were able to dominate the 1980 ‘ s NBA ; However, the best NBA team of all time is the 1987 team ; Also , watching this now provides me with another relief from the dreadful genocidal news of GAZA ( January 7th /2024 ).
Most definitely the greatest Laker team of the 1980s, and arguably the best Laker team ever. Kareem at 40 was still very relevant, Worthy was the series MVP, & Magic was pure Magic!
@@jaydaire139, I agree
Hahaha fools gold is your new name greatest team ever hahahaha 😂😂😂😂 I needed that laugh thanks
@@sidibouchrit you dudes must be lovers hahaha 😂😂😂
That 87 Lakers squad... iconic
Wow a true nail-bitter in this one
The 1988 Lakers were quicker defensively than in '89 when they played Detroit.... Just go look at the difference in the Lakers defensively...it's like Detroit had so many open shots and free range to the lane in '89 vs. '88... In '88, even in the Lakers' losses, it's like the shots were contested when Detroit shot or drove the lane they had to do more to create shots because the Lakers were more active defensively.

Why was there NO flagrant foul called on Rodman at the 5 second mark ?
There was no such thing as a flagrant foul back then. Didn't start until 1990-91
I watched this game live and the Pistons deserved this game and the ring. Thomas 3rd quarter was breathless, no words. Laimbeer's last fault to Jabbar wasn't fair, he doesn't touch it. It was a thief
lambieer was a cheater!
What about at 1:46:33 where Rodman hacks Worthy and no foul was called? Was that fair? They equal out.
@@jps101574 hacks Worthy ?? it's a block like a cathedral. This was a big thief, God knows it.
👍
Ever notice our back, then the game clock kept running while the ball was still out of bounds before going in.. that eventually changed, but don’t know what season that started, but it wasnt that much later.
Who’s back?
Frying pan hands Sally couldn't corral the rebound cleanly for shot & title #1 maybe that's why Dumars didn't throw him the alley oop along the baseline where he was completely alone
Phantom foul
Phantom foul 🏀
Remove the 3 pt line and go back to old school b ball ..the game of the big man when you get the ball down on the block.so much more physical and teams played defense...
I cannot say why! I always have a feeling that the pistons won this series and the championship NOT the lakers! Pistons were better.
Cab money these days would be a hundred and a fifty lol
I said it then in 1988 and I’ll say it now. AWFUL call on Laimbeer against Kareem. Still Pistons had their chances. You win you win, you lose you lose.
The Pistons got their revenge against the Lakers the following year because of injuries to Byron Scott and Magic Johnson. Breaks go both ways.
@@ericradford2142Pistons would have still won, they were the better team in 88 and the better team in 89
No it was a foul
@@rafikz77It would’ve been interesting … but the Lakers were gradually becoming a shell of themselves by 1989. Even in 1987 I could see that Magic wasn’t as limber and athletic as he was in the early 80s. And of course Kareem’s last truly great year was probably around 1982. Age was catching up with them … and Riley was essentially down to a 7 man rotation. So - given that it’s remarkable how long they hung around. Sadly … age gets all of us eventually.
👻 foul
Watched this game several times and I still say the refs robbed the Pistons in the fourth quarter esclily on the last shot no game should end on free throws this was for the championship
God 😂Old is the greatest of all times
Did Hugh Evans make a contraversial call - a foul on Bill Laimbeer?
Thats didnt look like a foul
Up high, Laimbeer was fine, but Laimbeer pushes Kareem with his body down low to throw his shot off. Re-watch it! Any referee will tell you that, it's when an advantage is gained by the defender that you make the call. If anything, Laimbeer shouldn't have "tested" the referee while the Lakers were at home, and, Kareem was a 19yr vet- he's going to get the call when it's close!
@@adriansmith2182 That's because it wasn't. Home cooking for the Lakers.
@@edkiely2712 Watch it again. First of all, Alcindor got away with a travelling violation. Check the 1:51:53 mark. Secondly (and Alcindor was known for this), he stiffed Laimbeer with his non-shooting arm to help create space just before Laimbeer was able to make contact . Alcindor was _not_ pushed. Foul-wise, that's a no-call and Alcindor should have been called for a travel. Period.
@@bubufubu I agree, setup for lakers. Detroit couldve 3 peated
I no
Write
Laimbeer still never touched Kareem
Then you’re blind
Magic and Isaiah would smoke today's game if they could play with no traveling, hand checking or over under calls. This ONE game had more traveling calls than were called in the whole league last year.
Isiah
No way
WAY!
WOW......... what would it take to watch the other two? I'm down to posting to the SHOWTIME players themselves for high qaulity showtime games... no offence to keptic but the qaulity is not-so-good
This Finals is RIGGED
Detroit fans are still crying about something that happened in1988 🤣🤣
Pistons got robbed no question , they shouldve 3 peated 1988, 1989 and 1990 , remember without the Bad Boy Pistons you get no Bulls dynasty, infact Bulls needed Rodman for second 3peat.
Lakers had their share of bad luck in the early 80s … starting with Magic’s injury in 1981. I still think the 83 and 84 Lakers were the best Laker teams of the decade, talent-wise. But tough luck/injuries got ‘em…. But others had similar tough breaks at times … the Sixers, Celtics …. And several teams in the 70s who failed to repeat. It happens … talent will out, eventually. And so it did.
@@ChrisN13441989 Byron Scott and Magic Johnson’s injuries.
Pistons were the better team of the league in 1988, 89 and 1990. Even in 1987 a Lakers - Pistons final could have been really tight.
@@frandavilacardenes Yes … the Pistons I had to admit were really good and had put together a great team. I had underestimated them after their early 80s years - but wow they proved a lot of people wrong.
If the Piston won this series how do you know they would’ve won the next 2?
MJ was the bad, he's bad 😁
Isiah is like LeBron in this game.
Useless when the game is on the line.
Byron Scott scored on him easily then he bricked the shot when it mattered most.
.
LeBron is more clutch than Kobe and Mike.
So Isiah playing on a severely sprained ankle had nothing to do with that? Just say you don’t know basketball with that ridiculous statement
They should've had Vinnie in for defense, Isiah on one leg was no match for Scott
