@@willardlockejr2965 I got your back on the NBA on CBS. Some people weren't born or were too young to remember that CBS televised the NBA. The CBS coverage was a part of my childhood in the 70's, my teens and my early 20's. I watched the NBA on CBS from the 1977 NBA playoffs to the very end in 1990(game 5 of the NBA finals).🏀
Man, the best ever, the commentary the theme music, this will never be repeated. The 80's and The NBA this video is a time machine. I love it! they don't make them like Brent and Dick Stockton anymore.
Man! This was Good Ol Days..I remember being a kid just waiting for that intro! Forget playing with other kids outside I was in the house waiting for that voice of Musberger and watching Magic v Bird..Classic!
They had a highlights show on the BBC in 1987 the hight of the lakers Celtics Detroit rilvary ...it was awesome to watch the superstars playing Bird Magic kareem ect ...like sport from another galaxy for us Brits ..
Rookies back then usually made immediate impacts. So Worthy would have definitely added an offensive boost and speed to the Lakers offense. But against the Sixers they needed better rebounding and stronger interior defense. These are two things Worthy doesn't provide. With Worthy healthy I see the Lakers possibly avoiding a sweep but still losing in the end.
I remember those days…way before the internet. When the finals were taped delayed I can’t remember if the winner was announced or leaked out before the taped game was televised.
@@davidpage3893 I remember those tape delayed days too. CBS was tape delaying the NBA finals too. I stopped watching tape delay once my family got cable TV(Oct, '81). Cable TV had NBA basketball on the USA Network and WTBS-17(Atlanta)would televise Hawks and playoff games(they were the forerunner to TNT) and the original NBA on ESPN.
Thanks for the post. Got huge influence to do broadcasting basketball and football (in Japan now) from watching CBS Sports and Brent Musburger and this Chicago's "Alive Again". And former Michigan State Spartans Magic Johnson (Magic’s mom was be loved janitor in middle school I attended in East Lansing, Michigan.)
This is an AWESOME upload! The feelings I get from these openings are unmatched. It takes me back to the best times of my life. Thank you so much for this. You have no idea how much it's appreciated!
The most underrated sneaky thing that happened that completely changed the landscape of the 80's was that prior to the 80/81 season was when Milwaukee and San Antonio switching conferences. If Milwaukee stayed in the West - they may have provided the Lakers with a little bit more of a challenge on a yearly basis in the West.
Definitely got a point just imagining the late 80s or the mid 80s with both franchises would have made for interesting basketball in the east and west landscapes definitely would have been different. Maybe would have seen by the 90s Jordan or Zeke play vs the admiral when the 90s came and Ewing vs Robinson during those playoffs runs. In the west definitely would have been a tough out outside of Dallas who emerged during the mid 80s those Milwaukee teams were a handful for Boston in the east it's a shame they never broke thru
CBS' last NBA Finals in 1990 (Detroit vs. Portland) came after CBS fired Brent Musburger on April Fool's Day. Pat O'Brien previously did the intro for Game 2 of the 1989 NBA Finals because Brent Musburger was away on assignment at the College World Series.
Yes and sorry I hate that they tweaked it for the '89 Finals. It was like New Coke. The theme used '83-'88 was epic. What wasn't broken didn't need fixing.

Anybody who didn't experience these epic intros and by extension these games in the 80's, missed out on so much.
🙄 I'll take NBC's intro over these any day of the week.
@@blueblur2273 Sorry, but I'll take Brent Musberger's intros over any of the NBA on NBC intros anytime.

Musburger is the absolute best in the business.
I want to know who wrote the copy. That was important but Brent Musburger deserves credit for the delivery with the highlights.
Except 1990. Brent was fired after the 1990 NCAA National Title game.
yuck

A quick note, James Worthy did not play in the 1983
playoffs due to a broken leg. I don't know how much difference that makes since he was a rookie.

McAdoo was also hurt
Lucky for him!
Tom Heinsohn said in a broadcast, he felt the Lakers would have beat the 83 sixers if worthy was healthy, that is his opinion

Larry Bird and Magic Johnson revived the NBA in the 80s going through it problems in the 70s having the nba finals on tape delay
