Petition for the NBA to bring this famous theme back
In the 80s eating Sunday dinner and watching the NBA on CBS cause Larry Bird & Magic Johnson saved the nba
NBA was a dead league walking prior to Bird & Magic!!
Today,The Doctor makes a house call😂@@wilnerolivier7971or the Doctor operates on CBS! Loved hearing Dick Stockton and Tommy Heinsohn calling the games. Larry Legend was the man!
Boston beat L.A.💯@@wilnerolivier7971
Don't forget Brent Musberger
From the Great Western Forum to the Boston Garden. So many great memories of the Showtime Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Lakers vs. The Bad Boy Pistons. The NBA on CBS in the 80s will forever live in our hearts.
Please don't forget the Spectrum in Philadelphia with the Doctor Julius Erving, my idol before the Mamba.
I grew up off this theme!!! The 80’s was the best decade EVER!!!! This theme used to get me pumped!!! Especially when the Sixers and Celtics was about to get it in!!
Preach!! Preach it loud!
Man folks just took for granted this time of basketball and broadcasting quality.
THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE NBA (THE 1980'S)! DO NOT LET ANYBODY ELSE (ESPECIALLY YOUNG 'UNS) TELL YOU DIFFERENTLY!!!!
Thank you, Allyson. Iconic theme.
Those were the good old days of basketball.
Bring it back to NBA on CBS
BRING IT BACK TO 1980
I hear you, I feel you, but the day is just gone.
This is my childhood and teenage years. When I think of the NBA Finals, I will always think of this.
Mines too.
Me too... exactly. I feel lucky to have grown up on the nba at that time.
@@kod1427 you said it right. A great time to have grown up watching the NBA. Nothing like watching it on CBS.
Showtime vs Celtics
Same here. Will always think of this song for the NBA.
The theme of Magic vs Bird. Great time to be alive. I miss those days.
Greatest era of NBA basketball, greatest era to be alive, period.
So true
I could listen to that 100 times in a row.
It NEVER gets old....hard to believe it's almost 40 yrs old!!
RIP Tommy Heinsohn
whoever composed this jam is a genius!!!!! this has basketball written all over it.
Allyson Bellink
Absolute genius score!!!!!
When I was a teenager this is what life was all about. NBA basketball on Sunday afternoon. I miss the 80s!!!!!
This was when I was introduced to the game of basketball in the professional matter. The NBA on CBS with Pat Obrien at The Half Sessions N Brent Musburger doing the play by play n the intro talking while the best NBA Intro Theme song was going on. I miss the NBA on CBS. I also like having Dick Stockton & Hubie Brown as ur play by play guys on the microphone. Those guys made a hell of a team working together n laughing together calling the play by play. The NBA All-star games were also fun n seeing my favorite players playing like Dr. J Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Isiah Zeek Thomas & Michael Air Jordan.
I loved this CBS theme during the golden age of NBA basketball. Brent Musburger, Dick Stockton, Hubie Brown and the guys - Magic, Bird, Jordan, Thomas, so many great players. I miss those days.
The Stockton/Heinsohn tandem was my introduction to the NBA. I have no idea if they were actually that good together, but they'll always be the gold standard for me.
Don't forget Dr.J
The composer's name is Allyson Bellink
You had to get hype off this. Wasn't Jim Obrien doing the intro too
The theme song of Larry Legend about to kick somebody’s ass for 48 minutes
😂😂😂😂😂😂Boston beat LA😡
Grew up on the NBA on NBC (born in 89 - the next-to-last year CBS aired games), but I definitely love hearing this theme when I watch classic games on RUclips and on DVD (converted from VHS)
We grew up with this theme and I am fond of the memories. Good that we see these games again in RUclips.
Pull up a seat sit back and enjoy cuz you got the bus seat in the house, it's the NBA on CBS. That was what Brett musburger used to always say
Nba is fantastic
I love this song... this is The BAD BOYs domination years ... love it. Grandrapids MI to Los Angeles...!
Nope they dominated at the end of this’d this was all Larry and magic
@@theotherview1716 The Bad Boys ended both of their reigns.
I was too young for this but definitely hear the inspiration in this for John Tesh and Roundball Rock for NBA on NBC
Thank you so much for bringing back memories of my 80’s Celtics
There's Bird with another 3 !
I grew up on the NBA on NBC, but thanks to trading vintage sports on DVD, I can experience the NBA on CBS in some form. The NBA on CBS was awesome and I don't mind the NBA going back to CBS. Anyone but ABC/ESPN, IMO.
👍
@@arthurjoseph2148 Adam silver please put the NBA back on CBS and NBC
CBS Needs NBA Hoops
goddamn this theme takes me back.
This theme took on a new level when the playoffs hit. The narrator was on 🔥!!! Don't let a team be down 3-1 or done tied the series up after being down 2-0, the narrator would ad that extra punch lol!!
I swear it must have been Philadelphia vs. Boston every other Sunday
Majestic times. Gone forever.
What kicks is to watch it as part of an actual game intro.
The stabs at :15, :42, 1:17, 1:30 and onward are cues for the windows to insert video and introductory narration
:15 starts 18 seconds either on the favored team or the backstory of the rivalry or series,
:42 starts 19 seconds - either the underdog team or the stars, stakes, or tone of the game
1:17 starts 11 seconds - either introducing the home city and arena or specifying the status of the playoff series
1:30 starts transition to untimed narration transitioning to live with a title card of the matchup over live shot looking out from the top deck to show the court and fans in the seats.
There was some precise editing and copywriting to fit these slots.
From the Palace of Auburn hills to around the NBA it's the NBA on CBS now this is when basketball was basketball
When I hear this theme I think of Lakers vs Celtics and Bulls vs Pistons.
D2K Prime and the scoreboard
Tonight is Game Seven of The 1984 NBA World Championship Series between The Los Angeles Lakers.....and The Boston Celtics
I love this theme song
Best memories 😊❤😊
I love this theme bringing back my childhood
Lakers vs Celtics
From the Pontiac silverdome to the Boston garden to the Great Western forum to Chicago stadium it's the NBA on CBS
Awesome!!!!!
John Madden documentary brought me here

I want everybody to know these things, to understand where, when and how I grew up: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I took several years off as an NBA fan, and got back into it as a HUGE fan in 1990, when the Blazers made the Finals. I ate, drank and slept the NBA from 1990-2008 (and actually knew little about the NFL and MLB during that time). I remember this song from my 11th grade year, one of the BEST times of my life. Other great times in my life were 1993-94 (TOP 3) and 1996, which is why NBA on NBC is also a song that brings me back great memories. My Dad unexpectedly passed away in 2003, and life hasn't been happy for me since. Yes, I had a nice 2012, and an unexpectedly great 2016. I have long thought that I'd live to be 48, and pass away in 2021 or 2022. For years, I have been planning for my 2021 funeral. I want my funeral to be MUSIC based. Sports themes, Mother Goose songs, Japanese kid songs, Christmas songs, songs from the 1980s, TV theme songs, TV commercial songs, cartoon songs. If I'm indeed in the final few months of my life, this NBA on CBS song is a memory that I will cherish, during these final months of my life.
Hang in there man!!
@@mongoslade277 Last week, I was diagnosed with "pre-diabetes." I must make diet and exercise changes. Maybe, I somehow psychic predicted that this would happen at 48. If I get Type 2 Diabetes, that's it for me.
Hey Unappealing Undesirable, DID YOU KNOW I was born 1973 and my dad passed away in 2003. We've both got a lot in common. My dad was I'll so his death was hardly what you guys call "tragic" (he was NOT murdered, killed in a helicopter or airplane crash)! He would tell me he did his time on Earth (after he reached a certain age)! As long as he saw his kids grow up and first grandchild, he lived a full life!! I needed my dad growin' up in South Los Angeles in the 1980's where gang violence is still relevant and this NBA on CBS theme song was (and still) in my head!!
@@unappealingundesirable2826 you gotta tough and strong, I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. My dad lived a complete and life. Again I was born 1973 and my dad passed away in 2003 also. Life for me has sucked ever since. Depending on how your dad died, not every thing is a "tragedy", only one "tragedy" of recent memory and that (of course) was Kobe Bean Bryant, Gianna Maria Bryant, The Altobellis, The Chester's, Christina Mauser, and pilot Ara Zadoyan. So my message is to you is stay up and strong, I have sisters and a niece who I am NOT talkin' to. "Tragedies" are particularly rare (do NOT happen everyday).
CBS and NBC theme was the best NBA theme
Remember the Rocket s Lakers rivalry. Sampson hitting that shot to dethrone the lakers in 86 was awesome. This theme song brings back memories with Musburger setting the scene while the song was in the background was the best
The best
Celtics, Lakers, 1984 Game 7 ☘️ 😊
Hakeem, Sampson, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Barkley, Jordan, Ewing., Detroit Bad Boys. This was the golden era of the NBA. The trash they have now does not compare to this era
Great song and opening intro.
Tonight Round 6: Kareem, Kevin, Larry & Magic
the setups for finals games with this theme were so great. 3 segments - two to give the backstory, one to set the scene for the game about to start. Then a cut to the arena 'live' with the theme still playing. Just perfect!
check it out: ruclips.net/video/PT1xXfDDvq4/видео.html ("and if you want a ringside seat, it'll cost you a hundred dollars" - oh man...)
My teenage years it’s the best theme they had.
If the NBA went back to CBS the lead announcers would be Ian Eagle or Kevin Harlan plus use the 80s theme
Watching the lakers doc and had to find this. Brent Musberger “you are looking liiiive”
by far the best nba intro music especially for the playoffs. fuck espn and nbc
Lakers pistons Celtics bad boys showtime Lakers and a steal by Bird
What is the actual name to this song? I am trying to add it to my playlist for my workout music. I can’t find it anywhere.
Not sure why but at 1:03 I have the sudden urge to get crazy and do some coke...
Remind me of head cha la dbz Japanese song
Magic vs Bird 80s
EVERY TIME I HEARD THIS SONG I KNEW THAT THE LOSANGELES!!!!!!!!!! LAKERS!!!!!!! WERE GOING TO KICK THE BOSTON CELTICS ASS!!! BLADE 🕶️🕶️🕶️🕶️🕶️
Magic , junior hook , game over !!!
Amen from the biggest lakers fan of all time!
Daddy is from Los Angeles Lifelong Lakers Fan....I will always remember his reaction when Magic hit the Baby Sky Hook over The Big Three to eventually win Game 4 of The 1987 World Championship Series at The Venerable Boston Garden
What No James Brown During This Montage?(SMDH)
Kareem Abdul jabbar is the best player all time! Period. End of discussion!
No argument here
1MJ 2 Kareem 3 Bron 4 Kobe 5 Bird... top 5 basketball players ever! That’s the truth!
Yes sirrrr
This theme music is INCREDIBLE!!!.....why did CBS alter it 1989 or was it 1990???....bad decision!!!
They didn't alter it. CBS lost the NBA in 1990. The 1990-91 season NBC got the NBA
@@mongoslade277 true... but for the final season of NBA on CBS...the opening musical intro was, I guess, "updated"...and sadly was not as good as the previous several seasons even tho it was technically the same score....
@@mongoslade277 you're right the updated version was no where near as good......the original really got you pumped for the game ahead....glued to the pistons in '87 '88 and '89!!!....all fantastic finals!!
@@keithbrown8814 Brent Musburger and Dick Stockton the play by play announcers analyzing the upcoming game with that theme music playing and showing highlights of the previous game. THAT WAS THE ISSH!!
@@mongoslade277 sorry...it was '88, '89 and '90 finals for Pistons fans...but all 80's finals were great...a truly great era for NBA!!
Dear NBA.......PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go back to calling it The NBA World Championship Series.......it meant something spectacular....not knocking Commissioner Stern.....but yeah please go back to calling it The NBA World Championship Series
Well American teams based in America founded in America by an American sports created by a Canadian from North America, it makes sense calling it the NBA championships rather than world championship that's just hyperbole at it's finest
@@JayTechZM I like that word....Hyperbole.....I call it Hyperbowl....it is a funny word....here is another funny word.... superfluous....in North America....the 4 Major Sports Leagues have THEE best players in the 🌎...therefore that is why when they win the league title...they are called 🌎 champions. ⚽ will never have a true 🌎 Championship because way too damn many leagues....if they did for example like EPL or German Bundseliga La Liga etc have a 20 game season take the winners and have a tournament...that may give ⚽ a 🌎 champion....and the world would 💩if an MLS team were to win
World Championship for basketball ?? There's FIBA 👍
I'll knock david stern all day. He was garbage. On his watch the league got watered down. Referees started fixing games and teams starting moving for no purpose
Dick Stockton. Brent Musburger. Tommy Heinson. Pat O'Brien. Nostalgia at its finest
