Over 10 years ago, I was gigging a JCM800 and my MXR Wylde OD bit the dust, so I went to all the stores in the area with my own amp and tried all their OD pedals... that day I purchased an M77
I wish I'd found out sooner that the GT OD has an internal dip switch to switch between Zack mode and GT mode.
Absolute favorite is Boss SD-1. Works like a charm with Marshall amps.
That's exactly what I'm using in my recently acquired Marshall DSL20CR!
Thats awesome, man... I didnt even realize you had alot of requests for this pedal, but yeah it just seems to vibe with any of my amps, solid state or tube, big boy or lunch box... Even with distortion pedals... absolutely a must own in my opinion... Its literally the only pedal ive bought more than once... Nice work, KB.

My OD of choice back when I had a Diezel VH-2, playing in Bb standard, just the right amount of tightness without losing the character of the amp, loved it
I've been meaning to try one of these for a while. My current favorite OD for boosting an amp is a Black Arts Toneworks Black Forrest. It's a killer overdrive and fuzz on its own, but it's super flexible EQ/input cap selection makes it incredible for shaping the front end of a high gain amp.
I had one for a few years, it had so much noise to it i couldn't ever learn to love it. Been living the ts808 life ever since and haven't looked back
yours must have had an issue, they aren't any more noisy than any other overdrive pedal
I used one for a while and loved it. It was recommended as similar to the Boss SD-1 when I was looking for something that didn't remove as much low end.
Wow the sound from that Marshall may be one of my favorite tones you've thrown out there! That MXR is crazy awesome!
My favorite OD. When I got this it was my main boost ! I left all other overdrive pedals cause this one had a little more to work with on that 100HZ and tone nobs and the blue boost!
I found out about the MXR M77 a few years ago. I was going the next day to the music store to buy myself a Maxon OD808X. Then I tampered around with boosts within STL Tones Amphub, and I was TOTALLY blown away by their implementation of the M77. My plans immediately shifted, and I bought the MXR M77 the next day instead of the OD808X (got that one eventually a bit later).
Shortly after I really found my passion for this pedal, I stumbled upon your channel and saw you loved this pedal as much as I do - that was like two/three years ago when you were digging hard on the DAE Duality. I have since then often heard "Ah, you also watch Kyle Bulls channel eh?" because of my love for the MXR M77 😀
So, my favorite Overdrive is the MXR M77!

Found this pedal a couple years ago from when back when you were just starting out it’s probably my most used overdrive and I have quite a few really good ones.
hey kyle!!! i currently have a SD-1, dirty tree and a empress paraEQ w/boost...the empress is definitely my favorite at the moment, but i reserve the right to change my mind...cheers brother!!!
That's my go-to OD as a boost, paired with a GT-OD to push it further
I like the EQD Plumes in the boost position.

I go between a Precision Drive and Keeley Red Dirt Mini for my boosts. The Red Dirt is a modded TS and gets a little smoother than the Precision Drive. The Precision Drive has that bass cut rotary switch, which really tightens up the amp while having the head room to really slam the front end. Seeing as how MXR helped build the Precision Drives, I wonder if they started with an M77. The impact is reminiscent and makes me curious to see how the M77 would sound with my setup
I’m not a huge Screamer or SD-1 fan, but the BAOD is really good when you need that sort of box because of how easy it is to tune to the situation. The only thing that would make it completely indispensable would be a switch for symmetrical diode clipping because some days that seems to work better than asymmetric.

I found out about this pedal a year or two ago. I love my other overdrives but this one is exactly what you need for chugging riffs without losing too much grunt. Love how you can boost the lows if the amp is thin or cut them if it’s already boomy. Works great with all of my amps :)
Will check that pedal out. My favourite OD is the OD side of the Boss OS2. Super underrated and apparaently the secret weapon Kurt Ballou used in the early Converge years. I got mine for 25 bucks used (including shipping) and these were the best 25 bucks I ever spent!
It's my favourite overdrive too, nothing can replace it for me
I had it, and that is the one of only two items I regret selling, the other was a 1990 MIJ Fender '51 Precision Bass, I love ZZ Top, and with M77 I could make my guitar sound exactly like Billy, and '51 Precision sound and look like Dusty!
Best overdrive for the price point. Been using one for 10 years and still on my board to this day.

I just got another one of these because of your videos. I had the pedal before, but it didn't jive with my setup at the time.
This time, with a different rig, I'm enjoying it more. Maybe it's the gold sparkles on the new one, which is a limited edition. 😂
Anyhow, the reason I think that you like this pedal is not so much just the tone exactly, but the feel of it.. I think that's perhaps the biggest reason. The feel of this pedal is pretty unique. It's kinda squishy. You can almost feel it through your fingers when vary your picking strength.
Also, turning up the gain a bit on it isn't as offensive as in some other pedals... It seems like the gain works well with the amp and sound like part of its distortion of the amp itself, rather than something else... At least with my Stealth. Turning off the mid bump is a also plus when needed.
The 100hz control is OK, but boosting doesn't make it sound cool like the HM-2. It just sounds bad when you crank it. Otherwise it seems to do it's job when cutting.

I really liked the mxr OD but my all time fav will always be the Boss OD-1X.
You Should check out the Way Huge Green Rhino Mark II, much different then the new ones. It has a 100hz knob which can be boosted or cut and a Curve knob which from my understanding affects the mid bump around 1k making it more relaxed or sharp, it’s much much better then the new ones! You should try it, it’s the best underrated Green style Overdrive, and they are CHEAP

I have 9 overdrives, the 2 that never leave my board are Badass O.D. and the Friedman Buxom boost.
I use a fulltone OCD I feel like trying out the MXR M77 it sounds badass
From what i can find online, this is a sd1 circuit. I could dial mine and make it sound identical to my zw44, so i sold it. I want an 808 circuit and plan on getting st9+. I bought my m77 (which is also the model of my favorite bolt action rifle) because of your "5 favorite od pedal" video!

If I had a dime for everytime you said (x) was your new favorite drive. ODs been on the channel since its inception. You know dam well you’ve laid your hands on so many better ones. But for price Point this is deff worth the $$. But you can’t tell me this thing holds a candle to a good old ftin modded TS-9!!!!

Man, the badass modified made the ts9 and sd-1 sound thin through that 6505. I'd probably use one of the latter two on an Archon or Recto, but a 6505 or 5150III I'd grab the MXR all day.

All amps are the same, it's so obvious that speaker is the only thing in signal chain that makes a difference! It's still not clear if you need an amp and guitar for great tone, maybe you can use just speaker by itself!

You know what that hand motion was lol. Hell yeah man I had one of these a long time ago but I was using clean amps like a Bassman and an old Ampeg tube bass head and had to have an actual distortion pedal so an overdrive wasn't useful to me at the time. I actually used a ProCo Rat and yes I was getting high gain metal tones at the time. Now I use overdrives and have an SD-1 but would love to give this thing another chance. Thanks!

@@therewasascene sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do lol. In the 80s you could find a used Bassman head for $50 bucks and basically have a Marshall circuit and throw a distortion pedal in front and presto... look up the price of a Bassman head now.

Airis effects savage drive and the highwind direwolf have been my favourite so far I do like the sound of the deadweld duality but I can't even get on the waiting list so it gets a thumbs down
I just discovered it really opens up with the gain at 9 o'clock. 100hz knob is great when you're going back and forth from p90's to EMG's. Lives around 11 o'clock pretty much.
