personally i prefer the more scooped sound of the g4, indeed they are both awesome pedals.
Ok....right off the top. I have NEVER EVER seen ANYONE play a Leeway riff on a demo, let alone anyone that probably listens to them from
back in the day. Mikey Gibbons was one of my best friends back in the day and EVERYONE chased AJ's sound. Your good sir....are AMAZING ! ! !
Trying to work some more classic hardcore riffs in man! And yes, the tone on that record still holds up, IMO. Seems like a pushed Marshall of some sort
@@belligerentamateur Anytime I went to a rehearsal, they were pushing their Marshall's with those hard to find TC Electronic Distortion Booster pedal. I also think that AJ's SG had some of that magic in it as I have never heard another SG sound like his

@@belligerentamateur Last time I saw AJ playing with Cro-Mags, he was using a JCM 800 2203 and a Boss SD-1. I’m not sure what pickups he had in his LP custom though.
I love the g4. I just bought an orange super crush 100 and it’s been here 3 days and today I ordered a revv g4 today. I heard it and fell in love with how it chugs and sounds chunky. I love ur channel man. I found u like a year ago n said how I liked ur channel and how comprehensive it was and how u needed more subs and just rediscovered u and subbed. Keep doing ur thing man. Love the beating u put everything u test through
I also bought the super crush 100 recently hows it been for you so far? And do you play on the clean channel or dirty channel with minimal gain?

I can definitely confirm everything you said in this vid. I have a G120, and the other guitarist in our band uses both a G3 and G4 on his board into a clean tube amp so we've definitely played with comparing them. Your mini conclusion about the G4 being more recto'y and the G3 being more 5150'y is 100% correct. I absolutely gravitate to my purple channel on the G120, and don't often use the red as I prefer 5150 sounds. I will say on the real amp the bass difference is much less than between the pedals. It's still there, but it's not as drastic.

Also recommend trying the orange pedal baby. The power stage is awesome, but the the pedal baby is class A/B which sounds more tube like. So when running pre amp pedals into it, it honestly sounds like a real tube amp. I’d be happy to let ya borrow it if you wanna try it
If u try a boost again, try a Ibanez ts9, with the level not dimed. That’s how I ran it, and it sounded great!
For sure man, dunno how much I'll run these back as I have too many amps to get to, but I figured lowering out put of the drive would prbably be the key

I have a G4 running through an Orange Crush 20 on clean lmmfao! It sounds so brutal! At first it was totally unexpected. I still can't believe how good it sounds. These pedals are something special man. Somebody definitely knew what they were doing designing these lol. 🤘🏼💀🎸
I have an orange micro dark terror, if I run the g3 on high gain it’s a rock pedal at best, no where near enough saturation to be considered a distortion pedal imo. Massively disappointed I’ve had it 3 days 😢

I agree that Amps sound best, but after 30+ years of lugging around a head and 4x12, the tech is now there to roll into a gig with 2 hands instead of it taking 2 guys to carry it all lol.

I owns the purple one since that came out on the market and really sounded good but get tired after while and when back to my old setups (Maxon od808 trough dirty channel) but thanks anyway 👍 good job

I'd probably open up the volume on the pedals more and lower the Powerstage 170 volume. I use them into my Two Notes CAB M with the volumes around 1:00 or so. Opens up the sound quite a bit and sounds much better.
The G3 is my go to for viscious crunchy or cannibalistic clean metal
I had the Victory Kraken preamp pedal (I sold it, but shouldn't have...I'll get another one soon for my Peavey classic 50) for a while that I used in my 6505+ fx loop and it even cut better than the Peavey in our band mix, can you believe that? lol It has tubes in it and you can plug it in 4 cable method so you can still use your amp channels if you want. I highly recommend it if you never tried one. Channel 1 is more marshally(can have some great dirt clean tones too) and channel 2 is definitely more 5150 oriented.

Then the G4 would be best. Paired with the G2 it sounds amazing. Basically, the G2 dials the tone and presence... the G4 blows the windows off.
G3 seems better on its own. A little more processed sound but limited. The G4 covers a super wide range...
When switch goes from red to blue, it seems some frecuencies missing

Trading my B-52 LS100 Solid State for the G4 today. I’m excited to run this through my Bugera 6262 and hear some better sound! Working my way up to the big boy gear. 😂
Sounded good overall. I have the G4 and have always found it to have too much bass. The G3 seems like it would suit me better. With that said, get the KSR Ceres. It puts everything else to shame IMO.
I have the Ceres, and I have to Agree. As nice as these are, the Ceres is unreal.

It sounded surprisingly good to me through the duncan but yeah, tubes will usually always sound more full
I use the Purple in front of my Friedman runt 50 with the Gtid slammer boost on it. Sounds pretty damn good. Using it in front takes out a lot of that harshness. Great pedals and Demo. 👍🤘

Yeah, I prefer the G Series pedals in front of a clean tube amp. I use mine in front of a Morgan SW50.

I'm trying to get a descent tone with Revv g3 using Boss Katana 50mk2.
I'm using les paul studio, 1 spot cs7 (new), boss ns (new), korg tuner (new). Dialed to clean channel but tones from the amp are muffled...any clue, please?
Those Revv pedals sound great! I'm really curious about the Victory Kraken V4 and if it stands up to preamp pedals such as the G3 and the Ceres.
Ceres and Balaguer Fission Drive are my next preamp pedal demos, but I'll try to find that one as well!

Didn’t dig the G3 when I had one. It was by no means bad, but I thought it sounded thin / sterile / uninspiring. Plus it didn’t like being boosted. It’s probably better suited for low tuned stuff.
I could see that as well, definitely needs a little more low end content for me
@@belligerentamateur i'd kind of rather use a more wild, "pedal sounding" distortion pedal than one that sounds like a sterile amp. The MXR 5150 is pretty fun, but I preferred through a good clean channel (like the shiva) than through the fx return. Otherwise i'd just use a high gain amp.
I'm currently looking between the G3 and the EVH 5150 over with gate, I can't decide lol

First of all, I love your channel. Have you tried out the AMT preamp pedals? They do preamp modeling pedals, including ones with tubes in them- they're called "bricks". Really good stuff. Check them out.
I haven't, man but they were all the rage in preamp pedals 6-8 years ago. Have they come up with anything new since the 2 series?
Just the fore mentioned bricks. They sound like something up your alley; especially the Engl inspired one
Yo, Kyle. Been meaning to ask you: What's your favorite boost for the blue channel on your EVH's? I'm struggling with my LBX II's blue channel. It doesn't need tightening up, but it does need some more gain and aggression to the pick attack.
The Deadweald Duality DX is my new go to for everything!! Other than that, the Mxr m77 Badass is always a good choice

@@belligerentamateur hell yeah and their is not a single good video/demo of that amp anywhere on youtube so you would be the first to expose it for what it's really made of.
my Boss metalzone crushed the g3 I just bough big time so it will be for sale. even tweeking both pedals for a good while with my cousin playing amazing riffs with my other cousin there listening. I got a perfect just perfect beefy smooth and tight distortion that just gives you eargasm they both felt the same way. the metalzone is just the best and soooo versatile too. to bad but the revv is crap and when I have time it's getting sold. just trying to help. I had the metalzone way back when but got into tube amps and mods but now I want both so the metalzone is back. glad they didnt triple in price lol they certainly could have because they are the best because the 6 buttons that drastictly changes the type of dist you get and that just amazing. smooth round gritty perfect distortion at least 5 types too boot. Why waste 4 times the money what used metalzone are cheap and 10 times better.

Depends on the amp! Probably better than most two bands, but a lot of the newer modern two bands have a really nice sweep on the volume so you can get good bedroom tones. Depends on what you're working with my man

@@belligerentamateur i got the red one in my cart......awaiting my card. I prefer a scoop mid & more lows over full mids & lack of lows. Red one just seems to have a bigger sound while the blue is more in your face yet not as big sounding. Both good but Like the red a tad better.
so ......the Blue one lacks bass & the red one lacks Mids, BASICALLY

Both of these pedals are horrible in my opinion. No bottom end at all and very noisy. Always going back to my Mt2 😅

@@belligerentamateur Few of us are really searching but all too often something comes along and never leaves your house.
Adding presense from the amp, doesnt help a potential buyer though. the only real adjustments should be on the pedals.
Don't agree, most people are putting these through very similar power amps.
@@belligerentamateur Right...... but tweeking the amp is irrelevant because half of us dont have presense on our amps, half do but.just sayin........ tweeking the amp is a wase when it comes to demo''ing the pedal. imo. so when anything happens to the amp dials, we mentally have to be like ......... ok thats kinda cheating, even though iots not cheating but you know, like........ sorta because the point is to demo The [Pedal primarily, but granted you didnt cal;l it a demo but still. Not insulting you, just saying tweeking the actual amp is pointless & takes away from just how good you can make the pedal sound using just the controls on the pedal.
