    I live in the northern US and always wear a base layer in winter. I used to wear silk but they did not keep me warm. I have been using Smart Wool which is made of merino wool and not itchy but soft and cozy. They are machine washable and wear very well. These base layers by Smart Wool come in varying weights. I originally started using them for skiing and also now wear every day in a lighter weight. They even make some of the tops as sweaters which I also love. I live in sweaters all winter long and mostly wear pants also just to stay warm. Enjoyed your video.

      My Reality , socks called Darn Tough are excellent ! I am also very sensitive to wool but I find that the tight interlock of the socks keep me toasty and warm, the socks are not bulky, and they do wear well. I have had a pair over three years and it still has not shown any holes or toes poking through.

      @@eileenchang2173 Hi Eileen, I also have the Darn Tough socks. Forgot about them as I usually wear those in my hiking boots in the summer. Have you tried any of the Smart Wool items? I also am wool sensitive and I can wear them. I also have to be careful with cashmere. Have a great Christmas.

    In addition to your list, I knit ribbed cuffs in various colours to keep my wrists warm, even when I have to take a glove off. They make a huge difference and are easy to put on and off and to store in my bag, to help me regulate my temperature. They can be worn in a single or double layer and look like sweater cuffs.

    Yes, the long underwear is key for me to keep warm. I use the thinnest ones from Uniqlo and they work perfectly under my outfit. I love that they are comfotable but tight enough to avoid air getting underneath. Because of that my winter trousers are mostly straight trousers that have some room to wear the long "leggings" underneath. It's perfect.

    You had mentioned living in Florida for a period of time. Could you do a video on how you built a winter wardrobe while living here? It’s such a struggle for me, as a former New Englander. I live in the Tampa Bay Area, where we do see 40’s, but it mostly hovers in the 60’s to high 70’s. I have spring things but I really don’t want to miss out on our version of “cozy” weather. I find I suit the fedora, and the beret, too. I have a love for men's size brim on fedora, the smaller ladies ones don't suit me. I have brown and black for winter, and cream and white straw ones for summer. My berets are a lovely black one, with beading on my side. Also a cream and Grey one.
      I also love my Panama hats. . I own a lovely men's one with a wider brim, and black ribbon and a lovely woman's one, it's got the same width brim at the front, and shape, the ladies one looks the same at the front, but the back has a lovely shape with a bow on.

    It's beautiful, but when you live in a really cold climate (-20 celcius), it's harder to look polish. A formal wool coat is not warm enough...

    • @mariabarnes9197
      @mariabarnes9197 5 лет назад +7

      It took me years to understand that. Of course for formal occasions, a good thinsulate lined heavy winter coat is helpful. Outside of that, it's fur. And who really wears fur these days?

    • @glgardener4972
      @glgardener4972 5 лет назад +8

      @@mariabarnes9197 Try a faux fur coat or jacket. I have a faux fur longer jacket and it is extremely warm which really surprised me. I love it. I would love to get a faux fur coat. We get to -20F during the winter for up to 2 weeks which is hard but I do stay warm. Merry Christmas.

      I live in Edmonton, Canada. The winters are cold (-20 to -45 Celsius or worse sometimes). I find a formal wool coat can work but it depends on how long you're going to be outside and how thick the wool is. I have a really thick wool coat that's great, it has a really warm lining and is form fitted and doesn't look sloppy. When it's really cold I always wear a scarf, a toque (beanie) and lined leather gloves. On formal/dressier occasions I have loose toques that look a lot like a bare that are warm but don't squish my hair flat to my head so I don't look horrific when I take it off. It can be a challenge but if you hunt you can find something that can work, but it is frustrating when the majority of wool jackets are paper thin and unlined. So frustrating. A down vest under a coat can be a life saver as well.

      @@ItsTooLatetoApologize Hey hi. I'm in Edmonton, too. And yes, formal wool can work, if it's well-lined. I love big scarves, too - pashminas are surprisingly warm for the weight, and I like the look of them (not sure they're 'in' anymore, but around here, we go for warm rather than trendy).

    I also find that jeans do not keep me warm on colder days, silky long underwear under tops (for me especially) keeps me comfortable on the coldest of winter days (single digit days with wind chill below zero), and warm socks. Doesn't matter if my feet are dry if they feel like blocks of ice. I would love to find a pair of warm leather gloves, and a hat that doesn't make me sweat lol. These are such great ideas. I have been so interested in sweaters this year and there are so many to choose from. I have gone to Steinmart and shopped. They are such a great place for classic as well as modern trends that look great. I have bought a couple of really sweet sweaters. One is a blue sweater with a little dog on the front with an animal print bow on. I had picked up an animal print button down shirt last year that matches the bow perfectly and I love wearing this little duo with jeans. I also bought an animal print sweater with red crew and red on the bottom. It can match jeans or black pants perfectly and be dressed up or down. Sweaters are hard to launder sometimes. Cold water soaks and air dry seems to be the best way. if not dry cleanable.

    Wool socks I can’t live without. I have a couple of down skirts I wear over my jeans to keep my bums warm. Opaque leggings inside jeans is another way to keep my legs warm. Puffer jacket, gloves, hat, scarf to keep wind chill at bay. Try not to get wet because wetness feels colder. I also layer with thinner pieces, down vest, thermal/merino wool underwear, etc..

I loved the lace up ankle boots, I have a pair of black Dr Martens which I wear to death and really love but I think I will start looking out for a more streamlined pair like the ones in this video. Great tips and advice! I love your ideas! But Anna Wintour is rolling her eyes every time you say chic... lets use another word to describe your style. Love your videos!!!!! ❤️

    Do you have some causal styles also? you such a young woman and sometimes dressed like a 40-50 years old. I think a younger fashion suits you very well.
