This beautiful movie brings back memories of the first time I saw it on tv with my mom and my sister. It was on late night tv and we were allowed to stay up to watch.Times are different now, families are different, sadly the country is different.I long for those days , but know that we must not grieve for what is gone but be glad that we ever had it.
I cried when the young man got on the train. Reminded me of when my father got on a bus to go to war, we cried. I was too young to really understand. (He did come home❤️👵🏻)
Such great days, when people had to send their children, fathers, lovers, friends off to war. So many didn't come home, or came home broken. Great times! People always miss their childhood, if they were safe, and loved. The years before you have knowledge and responsibilities. Those were the days.

This is a gem of a movie. It rivals "It's a Wonderful Life" to me. Wish my Mother and I had seen it together when she was alive, but I believe she did see it at some point in her life. She often spoke of Claudette Colbert and Joseph Cotton. I was very surprised to see Shirley Temple. It takes me back to a time that I wasn't here and could see life as my Mother was growing up in a very difficult time when the country was struggling. From the script to the incredible actors to the music and the realistic set, I am so thankful that I found this and definitely think it is one of the greatest films of all time.
What a wonderful movie. So sweet. I remember my Mom being so sad and worried about my brother when he went into the Marines in Vietnam…..she picked up a tape recorder the day after he left and never stopped talking into it until he came home. He came home…..She would mail them to him every week
So cool that you mention that, My father was shipped off to Viet Nam the day I was born in 65...and she also got a tape recorder and would send daddy tapes of us, me and my 2 older brothers, and he would send them back...we actually still had one of the tapes from Christmas, and mom is telling me: Tell Daddy Merry Christmas, and in my Baby Worble I uttered something, and you can hear my mom and brothers all laughing in the background...such Special Times....such special memories. :D

My ex gave me a music box once for Christmas. The music was the theme from the movie Somewhere In Time; Jane Seymour n Christopher Reeves. It was our favorite movie. Every year of his death, I play the music. I miss him so 😢
A life-affirming look back at the legend of "The All American Family" except that we never experience the head of the family. Max Steiner's romantic accompanying music only completed the experience.

First time watching this film tonight. RUclips recommended it on my feed. Never heard of it. I was looking for something to watch. A B&W classic felt right. I'm so glad I decided to give the film a go. The writing and the casting all absolutely wonderful. A true classic. I love this movie, but feel a little sad watching it because Jennifer Jones' love interest was her real-life husband, Robert Walker. They had two sons and were in the process of divorcing during filming as she was leaving him for David O. Selznick, the producer of this movie. Walker was devastated and began drinking, he was only 32 when he passed away in 1951.
Saw with mom back the early 1960s and I was just 6 and I cried and mom said she never let watch the movies again. As I got order she would bring it up and laugh .
I had to look it up to be sure I was right. That’s a young Agness Moorhead as Mrs Hawkins. And Shirley Temple as Brig & Hattie McDaniel as the maid of course. Neither one mentioned in credits either.
