Yes, those cabinets were amazing. And. What about the DINGBAT style apartment Richard moved into with the number 1327 on the front, too!! I can swear that it is still standing and that i have driven past it several times over the years.
Divorce American Style is a must-watch for fans of classic comedy, biting satire, or simply two screen legends at the top of their game. It’s a film that reminds us that love-and life-is messy, complicated, and often hilarious.
If you want to see Dick in another Norman Lear movie Cold Turkey is great. Lots of stars, wry satire. takes on the tobaco industy and its rarely seen on tv. I love the opening credits with the dog.
Cars were very large and heavy and drove like tanks. Now better on gas, lighter materials, but plastic and tin..Car companies make a fortune, selling low quality cars compared to how they once were made.
I haven’t seen this film since it came out, I had just turned 8 years old. I remember huge chunks of it, especially the initial sequence after the party with the wardrobe sliding doors and the hypnotist scenes, but obviously didn’t understand it all. It’s a great mildly cynical commentary on the times, everyone in it is excellent, Jean Simmons is really classy and beautiful, and it has so much mid century style - interiors, cars, clothes, hair. I love it.
Its, everything I've wanted. A home, my own family, nice car, great job...I kinda have that.... A great wardrobe, an education...I'm ok here...a career and a future..the dating is totally out...I remember, that movie also..about three or so... My family, rented and we had hardwood floors. Once, you have a mortgage life gets better..more responsibilities and a deep love for self...
I love older movies like this, house, locations in Southern California. I remember those long granny skirts too. I was born, raised in Southern California. Top actors Debbie Reynolds RIP and Dick Van Dyke. Winderful movie, first time seeing this on January 4, 2025.
I found that scene to be chilling, actually. Really well done and campy and funny but what it symbolized was actually really sickening…as if they were insects crawling all over one another brainlessly. It’s poignant for sure.
Yep. Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin (who directed this movie) had a very successful partnership in the 70s, and produced All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Maude, and Diff’rent Strokes. Lear also had a solo company which produced The Jeffersons, One Day at a Time, The Facts of Life, and Who’s the Boss.
Lol! I see a lot of signature moments and emotional arcs in this movie from his later sitcoms. Satire and styles got even tighter on his sitcoms and he kept a lot of the physical comedy. It was fun to see this movie for sure.
WOW ,1967 American had it all in there big houses Color TV all the gadgets, big car's Mc Donald's and so much more, we were still in Black and white TV in Australia haha , and not much more , but we sure caught up .
the cars, the clothes, the furniture, the houses, the gatherings, the prices, we have lost so much to this generation of baby boomers who wanted it all for themselves. crooked politicians and crooked bankers. thanks for nothing
Looting, robbing, scaming, murders, disrespect, hate, men being girls and girls being men. Men undressing in front of girls in locker rooms winning in what is supposed to be a girls sport. Thanks back to your generation for this
Lee Grant was a really strong actress, beautiful too. And Bella Bruck as Celia!! Pat Collins the Hypnotist with big hair appeared on an episode of Here’s Lucy, so thats how i know her. Lol! weird but makes sense to see her here too, this came out in 1967.
Totally, insane!!! Your husband, finally makes it and begins, to earn money you run and hang on!!! Go back to College, take classes and keep going!!! You don't, drag him down because of, jealousy!!! Totally, crazy, your soo fired from here!!!
Too much screaming and yelling, gotta stop watching this boring crap. I watch movies to escape the real world Lol Big names don't always mean great quality.
Bruh not sure how your parents are, but this is how people communicated with one another back then: YELL AND SCREAM. I agree it is noisy and harsh, i wish my parents werent that same way but they were and it was awful. So there you go…this movie shows behavior that directly led to the BS we live with in 2024.
I braved it out to the very end of the movie and it kept getting darker and darker. So much of it is depraved, it left me feeling really sad, lol!! Slow moving too. Sorta worth it but sorta not worth it. Haha.
@@Olena-g7o family values is what church people and conservatives scream and yell all the time, but they cant define it at all without sounding like cruel dummies. Congratulations.
It is very similar to RHINOCEROS or MYRA BRECKINRIDGE or WAITING FOR GODOT where everything is deliberately weird and fictional and absurd. At first it is all really funny, then when the action never becomes normal, the story just gets weirder and creepier and more chilling. It’s a deliberate storytelling device, but sometimes takes awhile to arrive. This one was really good just a bit too long and boring.
You-Tube needs to show more Debbie Reynolds movies, Especially her early ones when she was younger.
She’s always been very talented… beside being very pretty
The bathroom scene is a treasure!
God I miss my parents. I grew up in a house very much like this one. The colors and furnishings. Sublime. It went away too fast.
The arguments.....
@ No, but they did divorce in 1973 😂
I loved this. Such great satire on the American Dream and divorce.
RIP Debbie Reynolds, people may not realise she was the mother of Carrie Fisher ( Princess Leia ). Dick Van Dyke is 99 years old today.
Many prayers to Dick Van Dyke 99 and still here
The real star of this movie is their house. It's a midcentury modern masterpiece.
As far as I’m concerned it’s always the house. I often stop movies on RUclips just so I can look at the rooms, especially Nancy Meyers designs.
That and the way we used to keep up appearances. Rarely do you see that today. A shame
I'm sure it is, with all of its shortcomings: shaky floor and meagre water pressure, for starters.
There is no peace in this house.

HOW THE CARS WERE GINORMOUS WOW AND HEAVY LOOKING...
Tins.
Yeah and the car wasn’t “totaled” after a fender bender.
I had a 77 thunderbird. It was solid ! A lady rear ended me in her new ‘82 cavalier. She totaled her car. I had a dent in my license plate 😮😊
@@cjhoward409I had a 78 Thunderbird! I loved that car ♥️

Ah The good old days of experimental camera angles. :)
❤ very fantastic movie🎉
I just saw him in the new Coldplay video. All my love. Adorable. And this popped up.
If I'm still alive when this hits the public domain, I'd love to remaster then re-post it!
Thanks , fun movie .
I remember seeing this movie a very long time ago
I'll take the double cheeseburger, fries and coke for .67 cents in January 2025.
Oh my gosh! I remember having a teether ball growing up. Totally forgotten about "teether ball" until seeing this movie. Now is January 4, 2025.
..back in the day when u could drink and drive..and no seat belts.. 😮
Tim Matheson as a teenager!!
Yes he played the role of " Mark Harmon" when Mark Harmon could of played himself but would of been to young.
saw this in the theater when I was ten, I never forgot the sliding doors bit (at the beginning) and the parents 'pick up drop off' scene.😄
Drive-in?

LOL Norman Lear thought he had it all figured out. The actors really make it though.
Didn't He Produce All In The Family Later??🤔

I don't know if I'd blame "baby boomers" en masse. Wall Street greed might be a good start.

Nice little stupid american movie ;-)))). lovely colour and stuff . The american dream . Which became more of a grey one ;-)). Cool .

You have to admit it's got clever directing.
