Initial broadcast: December 22, 1986
Although Amanda Kingsley (Loretta Young) is now extremely wealthy, she remembers her hardscrabble upbringing and tries to help the less fortunate around her. Conversely, her business-minded son, Andrew (Arthur Hill), has never wanted for anything, and has become hardhearted. Upon receiving bad medical news, Amanda engages down-at-heel private investigator Morris Huffner (Ron Leibman) to track down Andrew's three estranged children before Christmas Eve for one final family holiday.
Artur Hill a Canadian actor best known for appearances in British and American theatre, films, and television. Hill was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan, and served as a mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force before attending the University of British Columbia, where he studied law, but was lured to the stage.
Hill made his Broadway debut as Cornelius Hackl in the 1957 revival of Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker. In 1963 he won the Tony Award for Best Dramatic Actor for his portrayal of George in the original Broadway production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (with Uta Hagen). Arguably, Hill's most famous acting role was that of lawyer Owen Marshall, the lead role in the 1971-74 TV series Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law. He appeared on many other series, including The Reporter, and played Grandpa Lansford Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie (1976).
Hill died in a Pacific Palisades, California, nursing home, aged 84, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. His ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean.
Ron Leibman was born in New York City in 1937 and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University. He has been married to actress Jessica Walter since 1983 and was previously married to actress Linda Lavin
Leibman is most known for providing the voice of Ron Cadillac in Archer and for playing Dr. Leonard Green, Rachel's rich, short-tempered father, on the sitcom Friends.
Trevor Howard was an English film actor born in Cliftonville, Kent, England. After varied stage work, he achieved star status with his role in the film Brief Encounter (1945), followed by The Third Man (1949). This led to many popular appearances on film and TV.
While filming White Mischief (1988) on location in Kenya during 1987, Howard was seriously ill and suffering from alcoholism. The Dawning (1988) was his final film. He died on 7 January 1988 from hepatic failure and cirrhosis of the liver in Arkley, Barnet, aged 74.
Also in the cast, Patrick Cassidy, Charles Frank, Season Hubley and
Kate Reid.

great movie, watched it when it aired on TV, IN 1986, my mother taped it for me , as I had to work that night, I was 23 yrs old, and fondly recall the joy I felt watching it at the time, A timeless Classic with the beautiful Loretta Young.
My home was used in this movie ,it was the grand daughters home in the hills. Wonderful movie

I watched this movie on 12/22/1986 and tonight 12/25/2020. Loretta Young has been a favorite actress of mine since I was a little girl.
I want to thank Miss Young’s family for sharing this last gift from her. She was such a lovely sophisticated lady with oodles of talent and I thank her for sharing herself with her fans. As a 6 year old little girl I remember clear as day sitting with my mother in 1960 watching “The Loretta Young Show.” To me she was absolutely beautiful! As I grew up I enjoyed watching many old black and white movies on TV starring her. She was one of my favorite actresses.
Don't know why this movie isn't on TV every year, but I believe this should be included in all the Christmas TV programs forever!! Not only is a beautiful, well done movie, it shows kindness and love!! A great message to share for all!!

I first watched this film in 1986 when it first appeared. I remember being so thankful to see the great Loretta Young in front of the camera once again. A look, a nod, a gesture, and those eyes. What an actress. Words not needed Thankful to see it's being made available by the Loretta Young estate.
I had never seen this movie before.It brought me to tears as a man I'm not ashamed to say that.Thank you for this free movie .My 71 year old mother and I are recovering from covid 19, these pass two weeks have really been hard for us but thx to God we made it through.God bless everyone and be safe.

I saw this movie when it originally aired on Dec. 22, 1986 and enjoyed it as much now as I did then! Loretta Young was excellent as the matriarch of this very fragmented family. She had to have been 73 at the time, but was completely radiant and captivating. She hadn't lost her touch and maybe even improved with age, like a fine wine.

My daughter was born the evening this movie first aired on tv 33 years ago.

When God looks at you after this, He doesn’t see a single sin you have committed. He only sees Christ’s righteousness.

Even in her mid seventies Loretta Young was a beautiful woman, I have always enjoyed the integrity of her movies and TV shows with good morals and heavenly, blissful themes. She was a good woman and a bright light no matter all the junk she went through in her life.
