This might be the most honest Joan Crawford movie ever. Seems biographical. She was pretty much like this in real life. Very controlling, vain and obsessive. Her severe hairstyle just accentuates her nature. Scarey.
I enjoy watching this movie many times over because the true 14 year old Lucille LeSueur is the character; out of a child's legitimate insecurity comes need for control to protect herself; she does exhibit love only to those that sustain her.
Someone else commented on another “ tube” about the surfeit of Asian women hosting these classic noir starring the premiere actress of her time. Not at all surprised that the women of the deserts, the dust of their nations would adore Joan Crawford. Her roles are cautionary tales - how women from the dust rise out of their conditions into better. Admiration without account, perhaps. One wants enough cake to eat and to have.
Love Joan. She fought her way from poverty and a terrible childhood to make something of herself. It's a shame people believe Christina's book. Just shows how one person with a grudge can ruin a reputation.
I just love joan very strong minded I miss these old movies so much better they had a story to tell not like today.thank you for sharing with us.❤❤❤
Joan is my favorite actor of that era. She was so brilliant in her roles, which she perfected with her style. I recommend her autobiography.
She was so good because it came so naturally to her own narcissistic personality!!!

They were well paid for their services, so you can't call it slavery.
