One thing about ratchet and clank, they haven't really been away from the public for very long. If an old game series that hasn't gotten a game within the last 10 to 15 years came back, that would generate a lot more hype. I don't know if it would be enough to push them over the threshold of financially successful, but I certainly think it would make an impact
To be fair, it got a reboot game for the PS4, and even then that was mainly to promote the 2016 “Ratchet & Clank” movie, alongside forcing Smosh to promote it (which apparently shares an animator with “Sausage Party”, “Captain Underpants”, “Spies In Disguise”, “The Mitchell’s VS The Machines”, “Lightyear”, “Elemental”, “Inside Out 2”, etc. The animator’s name is Anna Gopin). And basically, the movie itself is basically nothing but cutscenes from the reboot game, which isn’t even a good game.
I think it comes to a demonstration for the PlayStation studios that instead of making new games well of course they will still make them but the majority of the aspects of possibilities wanted to create fresh and historical with those IPs that fans have never forgotten. I waited out to see the right opportunity to where they could make a comeback but in a different statement. Like say, if it has to be different I can always accept it. But the viability of sorts to make these IPs who they are again they should consider hiring the ones who have been working on the studios after they were playing games because they happened to be fans too. While others can still be around as long they still maintain the memories from what they worked before. Personally, throughout the whole experience, I am thankful for Astro Bot for reminding us of this good quality nostalgic era where we played them before. Because it encourages us to have games come back to fruition. As for the franchises I would love to see in return Ape Escape, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, MediEvil, Twisted Metal, PaRappa, and the ones we cherish the most. So for my sake and everyone’s sake, I hope it comes to them exploring those old IPs to a brand new game in their franchises.
I’d love for Ape Escape to come back. Astro bot made me remember how much fun that game and concept are. Astro bot also made me order Horizon to try out since that little Horizon Astro bot level was so fun.
I want them to bring back or remaster the games such as Bust A Groove, T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger, Ape Escape, Sly Cooper, Clock Tower, Jak and Daxter, and Ico.
I think the testing for this is the ports we're seeing from PS1, PS2 and PSP. Stuff like MediEvil, Ape Escape, Sly Cooper, are the IP I can realistically see coming back, because otherwise there's little point porting them over to modern hardware, and creating interest in them only to not capitalise on it. Sony's big games aren't generating the numbers they expect anymore, Concord was DoA, Spider-Man 2 didn't do as well as expected, and even 3rd party exclusives like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, aren't hitting the numbers studios are expecting. Fact is spending 5+ years and millions of dollars on every single game you release simply isn't sustainable. This is why Astro Bot was such a big deal, it's showed that yes, there is a market for these kinds of games, they can be profitable and are much quicker to turn around, and without AstroBot, PS5 would have had nothing this year, because every other title is stuck in those 5+ year development loops. Setting up some studios to work on smaller games, be they existing or new IP is essential at this point, because you simply can't risk another year like 2024 where you "big release" is dead right out the gate. This is why Nintendo has been so successful with the Switch, not just because it was a great concept but because they stayed behind on hardware they could actually manage, which lead to shorter and more reasonably priced development cycles, and they have an almost constant flow of mid-tier games filling the gaps between the larger releases, and even some years, been the whole focus. Like when Nintendo had to delay Tears of the Kingdom, while disappointing, the delay into 2023 for that game didn't hit as badly because that year we still had Mario Strikers, Splatoon 3, Kirby & the Forgotten Land, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Bayonetta 3, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, just to name a handful. It was still a packed year despite Zeldas delay, but if that happenes on PlayStation, then they're stuck with a year with no 1st party titles, and quite frankly, one exclusive a year simply isn't enough to justify a console, that's only real upgrade over the last generation is faster loading and a new controller.
Team Asobi have people that worked on Ape Escape and those people they probably worked on the level. What im hoping for now for gsme in the PS3 era have a few remasters for infamous resistance killzone motorstorm etc test the audience, and then announced a new game not AAA im also ok for AA. We need those type games to fill the gap between the AAA. Ps3 era was perfect for me while at that time those games i mentioned were AAA at that time but they don't need all the game to be like that what i want to say in the PS3 era we had a new exclusive evry year the fill each other before a sequel come out. . Astro bot was perfect in that regard beautiful graphics and most important fun content.
Company’s need to stop being impatient and greedy, you gotta play the long game. Ever heard of the saying “All good things come to those who wait”? You can’t get Rich quick, that’s just not how this works. Work smarter, play the long game, and eventually you’ll get your money’s worth. Also, as someone who loves 3D platformers. I’m so glad Astrobot is doing so well, i hope this gives Sony a wake up call. I especially want more games like Ratchet and clank, Jak and daxter, sly cooper, Heck…LITTLE BIG PLANET!! Just…Give us more of these games, please! They are vital.
Medievil is probably the one franchise I love who has the best shot. I also wish for more Croc Legacy of Kain, Gex Rayman like his classic first game and especially Puppeteer. Maybe even a new Concrete Genie.
Not every game has to be Elden Ring. Some can be Super Smash Bros or Tetris. Mario Kart, Pac-Man, Twisted Metal - Arcade-style, local-multiplayer-heavy titles. Pull back on the budgets, drop the price tags a little, and sell a few small titles to support the larger ones.
Gravity Rush had a short life. Sony gave up on it fast & that's a real shame. Nobody is talking about it because it's not old enough to be retro but at the same time, it's been dormant since 2017 (7 years ago.)
I would love if they brought back infamous but seeing how its somewhat similar and in the same market as spiderman, i dont think theyll make it seeing as itll propably take away sales from spiderman or something, however seeing how marvel rivals is hot right now maybe the superhero games market will get a boost up.
@victorvargas9330 true, the latest one was shit in my opinion but alot of people will buy it no matter what, seeing how we didnt have a proper good Spiderman game for a whole generation (last gen/the amazing games), so theyll probably oversteer and publish MANY MANY MORE Spiderman games lol
Sony's franchises are not as iconic as for example Nintendo franchises or Disney franchises, that is because Sony do not try to make their franchises iconic, there is much less merchandise from their franchises than again companies like Disney or Nintendo, they are not as common in other forms of media like tv shows, movies, and comics, theme parks and more, especially compared to franchises like Sonic or Pokemon, most of their characters are either humans or humanoid which is not as close as iconic like pokemons or Mickey Mouse and friends or minions, they don't have anything like smash bros to get new people interested. side note: Yes i know sony made a playstation smash bros game but that game is not as close as successful as smash bros
I would say...TOO LATE. They done mucked up during the PS4 to PS5 era transition, exceptions being Shadow Fall and MediEvil. PS5 "Pro" is a middle finger to everyone, and to that I close my wallet to the PS6. Not to mention LAZY "remasters" (i.e. Last of Us Part II, Until Dawn, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves, etc.) while charging "upgrade" fees just to make them quick bucks. And by all means, KuSoyny...keep throwing money into the dumpster fire that is Forspoken, Concord, Dustborn, Yotei, and Intergalactic.
Sony will inject woke and DEI nonsense into old franchises we grew up with such as Infamous, Jak & Daxter, Killzone, Resistance, Sly Cooper, Twisted Metal, etc.
Can you explain how equality being inclusive is a bad thing? Oh and please define woke for me. Is woke in the room with us right now? I’m not sure you understand how stories work. Characters and themes are chosen based on their concept. Most woke arguments are grasping at nonexistent straws.
@ Modern games always flop in sales look at recent Ubisoft games and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Gamers don’t like politics in games and like attractive characters.
@ could you show me actual evidence and proof that’s why the game “flopped?” A more likely explanation is that there wasn’t a market for a game like that. Critic scores sit in the 80’s so it’s not necessarily a bad game. Outside of the top 1% of games (wukong, Elden ring, etc), AAA and major studio aren’t doing so hot in this market. Live service games like rivals, cod and Fortnite have taken over the industry (player wise and profitability for the publishers). So instead of jumping to conclusions and using your own discrimination to fuel a non-existent issue…how about using common sense? Or better yet, just keep your opinions to yourself and don’t buy and play these “woke” games. Let those who do want to play them, play them in peace. We have enough hate in this world as it is. ❄️ 🤡

I think they’ll most likely bring back their older platformers to compete with Nintendo’s titles
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart apparently was profitable.
The insomniac leaks where everybody was calling it a flop were projection estimates from 2020.
no matter how you see it, Ratchet and Clank rift apart still sold and did far much better than Concord 😂
Super low bar 😂

Hopefully they'll bring concord back as a remaster
PS5 MotorStorm!!! Please make it happen!!! And with PSVR2 Support!! MotorStorm could be a great tech demo for the PS5 Pro and VR...

Give me a Killzone remake/ remaster trilogy with multiplayer, ape escape and a motorstorm and I am good! (For old franchises)
Time to revive Syphon Filter
It's a shame that even Astro totally forgot that franchise

I’ll believe it when I see it.
Littlebigplanet 1 and 2 just that, and I will die happy
And also you forgot LBP Kart Racing as well
Bring them all back for fuck sake
Sly cooper and syphon filter.
I really do hope they gonna make a remaster of killzone 2 for the PC with mouse and keyboard support. I really miss it.
Personally, I’m fine with these franchises staying gone. Sure, Sony needs to branch out and have more, but let’s see some new hotness.
I think a mix could be good. Bring a few old games that can do well and allow for smaller original games. Assuming people buy them
