We are LOSING LEGO Dimensions

- LEGO Dimensions is the most unique of all the LEGO video games, but unfortunately due to circumstances around the release of physical media, toys to life peripherals and licenses... we may just lose over half the game's content to time.
Hey, as a person that does Lego modding, I'd like to mention that there are 2 different versions of LEGO Dimensions that exist. One that runs on NXG (Next Gen) and one that runs on Dx11 (not Dx9). The reason why nobody has taken to modding the game to be playable itself is because not only is pretty much nothing known about these eras in terms of modding, but also because nothing is known about console modding as consoles tend to have differences compared to PC. There's also the problem of coding, as of now there's only about 10-20 ish people who actually know how to code anything for the LEGO games. The worst part is the NXG and Dx11 games are now discontinued by TT who are moving over to Unreal Engine 5. If there is anyone interested in helping and coding, please join the TTGames LEGO Modding Server and/or the LEGO Dimensions PC server on Discord.
I have pinned this comment to help spread the word! Thank you for clearing that up and teaching me something!
People like you are doing god’s work and I’d be interested in talking to you about it in depth at some stage!
Where can I find the dimensions server? I can't imagine a world without dimensions, and am willing to help in any way possible!
im coming up on my final project for uni so if u dont mind me doccumenting it id be happy to help
Looked in the file and my mind was boggle on how to start unlike star wars battlefront III and N64 roma
I'd love it if someone made these games easier to mod
We desperately need LEGO Dimensions to get a "Gold Edition" like Disney Infinity: a re-release with all content unlockable normally without purchasing the actual toys. I've seen people saying licensing might be an issue, but LEGO still has most of them to this day, and the few ones they don't shouldn't be that hard to get back.
@@ProjectShadow50 I completely agree with you
I only agree with the poster if gold edition ever actually got released for console. Gold edition for Disney Infinity, Disney Infinity 2.0, and 3.0 were released for PC only because the games already existed on PC. Back then you could use the card codes each figure came with to register the character in a digital PC version of the games you could also use the toy pad to register power discs as well if wanted, when the games shut down so did the PC version but unlike the console versions that were left behind, Disney repurposed the PC version since it was easier and made it the way it is and relabeled them as "gold edition". Since all the issues that have now cropped up with some of the ips Lego dimensions had, it's very very very unlikely for WB to make a digital gold edition of the game since some ips have since fallen under new ownerships like the Simpsons falling under Disney now so WB would have to get Disney's permission to use the Simpsons or the legends of chima which Lego has long since retired and aren't too keen on bringing it back anytime soon, not to mention they would have to get the original dev team back which all moved onto other projects and remake the game or heavily modify it so the toy pad parts can actually be done. @@GoblinBricks
@@gta71000 Lego Simpsons is already coming back at some point this year, we're supposed to be getting an 18+ Krusty Burger set and a third CMF wave
Lego would have to get in contact with a lot of people first as those contracts have since disappeared (back to the future on its way out once the last Bttf set goes off shelves) and it's not easy to get contracts and not only that, WB would have to as well. Since some of these have since fallen into the hands of Disney (the Simpsons and the entirety of 20th century Fox) they are going to have to contact the respective owners of the ips and we all know Disney isn't the one to allow every of their IPS or acquisitions to be used in games.
@@TurtleCraftZ1that's a leak still and it is subject to change. We haven't even seen any actual official notifications for it from Lego yet. Plus all they have going for it is "clown" not krusty the clown. So how everyone instantly thinks it's a Simpsons set is funny when we haven't had a Simpsons set since Lego dimensions got discontinued. Plus there are a ton of other clowns Lego has done and especially now with Lego fortnite, there is more than likely going to be another Lego clown than Lego Simpsons. Also not to mention the change in hands of the IP for Simpsons. Do you really think a license stands if the affected properties gets transferred to a completely different company? No. That's not how it works. Lego would have to get a brand new license made with Disney to use the Simpsons since 20th Century Fox is no more and the original license is with 20th century Fox. Not Disney.
A PC port that adds a tradtional character select screen and allows all the NPCs that were never made playable would be the ideal scenario.
@@NeoAya exactly!
It would be cool if the characters were kinda like unlock-able tokens and extra characters that weren’t in the original that you could find around the hub worlds as back when I’d play Lego marvel that was kinda my main motivation for doing the quests and stuff instead of gold bricks (until I found out about the bonus levels but I’m getting side tracked) this is wishful thinking and very unlikely because of the effort it would take but so is the whole idea of a rerelease so I may as well dream.
I to would love this expressly if they bring it over to other platforms like the Nintendo Switch and add new playable characters like lord vertex since every other Lego game lets you unlock the main villain as a playable character, plus he was originally planned to be the final set release and even had some of his voice lines left in the game
Honestly, I agree with you, a PC port with literally everything unlocked akin to Disney Infinity Gold Edition would be awesome!
I really hope someone does do a pc port

The Wii U’s modding scene has already made the lego dimensions dlc (which was free to download anyway) accessible to anyone with a computer and a wii u.
Bought a Wii U for modding last year
I think I'll have to try this!
That’s what I’m saying. You can literally just mod a Wii U and get everything
Does it work on emulator as well?
Already installed CFW on my Wii U several months ago.
Do you happen to know how to get the dlc?
Thanks for bringing more attention to LEGO Dimensions!
Luckily, we really are NOT at risk at losing LEGO Dimensions, let me explain:
How to fix NFC tags dying:
Yes, ALL Dimensions NFC tags will eventually die, however you can order identical blank NFC tags online and write the character (or vehicle) data to them with your phone. Then, just pull apart the official toy tag (they split in two, I do this all the time) and replace the dead chip with the new one you created. You wouldn't know the difference!
How to play Year 2 content (if you can't download the DLC):
it's a shame that the Wii U and Xbox 360 stores were shut down, but if you have a computer you can use emulators and download + install the DLC with just a few clicks. I wish you mentioned how you can easily plug a physical Dimensions Toypad into your PC instead of relying on the crappy emulated Toypad, creating the same awesome toys to life experience.
I want an official PC port as much as anybody, but dimensions on emulators is WAY better than people think. I have a 100% complete collection plus an Xbox One disc/toypad (with all the DLC) but I STILL play on an emulator for 3 main reasons:
1. You can play at a way higher resolution and framerate (such as 4k240fps) instead of the maximum on PS4/Xbox One which is 1080p30fps
2. Load times are WAY faster, it's not even close
3. Best of all, you can play online co-op with anyone rather than needing to play in-person!
That's a lot of overly simplified info so if you need help with a part 2 I gotchu, I love this game
Well put
Would you be able to play characters you didn’t previously own by buying nfc tags and transferring the code to it? And where do I find the codes for the veichle/characters. Thanks for all the information you provided in this comment
The Seventh Generation being old enough to have lost media is a depressing realisation lol.
The scarcity of Dimensions has always been its worst attribute. I'm lucky enough to still have this game and all the content that was such a big part of my childhood, now on the Series X, but to the average consumer this game is almost completely inaccessible, which sucks.
The degradation of the NFC tags is a worrying thought as well, though technically it plagues all physical media. The idea of all of our beloved games eventually succumbing to time is an uncomfortable, existential one.
I'm only 13. I always wanted to play but i just can't get in at 20-90$ a character. I NEED them to do a ps4 or switch digital edition
Ive even had the NFC tags for my old Skylanders stop working !! Sadly its most of my Series 1 Skylanders with only a few of the Giants cast starting to act up as well!! While I could buy new figures and hope that the game recognize them, what if those new ones also have that problem!
@@ethanlasitter1669 yeah as a kid this was the biggest barrier
Was this not 8th gen?
@@MasterProgrammer423 Dimensions was both 7th and 8th, but it's the 7th Gen that has no access to Dimensions Year 2 anymore (except the PS3).
God seeing games from my childhood start to become lost like this is so upsetting to me. Hopefully we can see some strides towards preserving this thing someday
Agreed! Some people think I’m over blowing this, but as I said it’s just the year 2 content at risk right now!
It’s already lost on 360 and Wii U :(
Thank you again for the share!
@@GoblinBricksas a Lego dimensions player on Wii U, mostly everything in year 2 works, but I have some of the content downloaded. The characters still function like supergirl and green arrow are playable, but I’m missing the content for A team, knight rider, ET, powerpuff girls, and fantastic beasts. The characters still work, just can’t visit the adventure worlds or levels for those ones. The only exception is the niffler, which cannot be registered or upgraded without the fantasitic beasts content download. Otherwise, the year 2 characters work outside of some transformation animations not working sometimes (although that could be the bugginess of the Wii U version)
You all know my pain from flash now

IKR? Such a shame how games like these get put in these kinds of situations.
I was thinking about this... there should be a museum to preserve the game in its entirety
@@w_nder I agree, there’s a lot of history here for LEGO, the licences involved and gaming too. Shame to see it in such a precarious situation!
all delisted games tbh
Courts have already ruled against this type of thing, because they don't want the games to be used to recreational purposes. It defeats the whole purpose, at least in their eyes, of the purchasing experience of video games. Honestly, I think that having a record or an archive of video games would be beneficial. It allows players and developers alike to understand how older games worked, and where those old mechanics can actually play into new ones in upcoming games. However, with the recent rise and simulation and emulation agitation, the idea that a corporation would allow the propagation of recreation and simulation or emulation is completely out of the question.
That's how capitalism works. It's really good, and it's worked so far, but there are some caveats when it comes to businesses running the show, and dictating how their software gets emulated.
a whole museum for lego dimensions id go there
Screw greed and capitalism@@timothyt.82
Fun fact: Two years after LEGO Dimensions' cancellation, Walmart actually bundled the Batman, Gandalf and Wildstyle minifigures from the starter pack alongside the first three LEGO movies to promote The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
Honestly, I'd love to see a remaster where characters and vehicles are unlocked in way similar to LEGO The Incredibles. Unlocking characters randomly via blind bags for every few gold bricks would probably be the best way of naturally adding characters without necessarily giving the player super broken ones too quickly.
The fact there was such a stupidly simple solution to the overprice issue makes my blood boil. I loved Dimensions as a kid, but as an adult replaying the game is a nightmare since I either can't complete it or I have to use a stupidly complicated setup just to get the game running on a computer

I'M DEFINITELY HOPING AND IS STILL WAITING FOR A NEW LEGO DIMENSIONS REMAKE WITHOUT THE TOYS TO LIFE TO HAPPEN SOON ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR SINCE IT'S THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF LEGO DIMENSIONS FR IDC LOL 💯.
With that, I think it’s time for a Dimensions reboot or a follow up without the Toys To Life stuff, as well as a Non-TTL port of the original game on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Or… they can approach this like Skywalker Saga where they make it an entirely different game

We really need a remaster of Lego Dimensions that let us play the game without having us go out purchasing other toys for the game.
Yea I could see two things happening. 1: they mainly do what you said, and I could see sales being pretty high. 2: it’s the same but each IP would be DLC instead of a toy, Wich would result in poor sales, if the DLC is more than like 3-6 bucks a pack
@@SUPERbarrelMaker610bahahahahahaha yeah right 😂
They’d make maybe 1000 sales total 😂
The fuck would they remaster... It's literally a modern game
They would remaster the mechanics that were intended for the toy pad. They should use the d-pad for the mechanics that were intended for the toy pad.
@ to add on to what u said, if there were any complaints or anything this would be how to fix them and show a new generation this game (aka people like me who were to young to play it when it waz out)
It's stuff like this that really gives me depression. That AND the fact that 2015 is already a decade ago. Like LEGO Dimensions still feels like a recent memory and it gives me the haunting realization that time really is flying quick and I DON'T LIKE IT.😢😞
The way I think about it, in 10 years you'll be talking about how recent 2025 feels just the same. But you're in 2025 now so you have the opportunity to make the most of it for that future you in 2035.
LEGO Sonic was introduced in LEGO Dimensions.
@@callibor3119 I made a short about it!
Yes, and then he was brought back years later for a Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO Ideas set and then having his own LEGO theme starting in 2023.
And as far as iim aware, there still hasn’t been a portal set, yet I have an official Chell minifig with its own portal gun mould from dimensions
@Dooodle2949 Same with quite a few IPs. Mission: Impossible, Gremlins, Goonies... They're all Dimensions exclusive
@@becauseimbatman1391 True. But what if they all got a LEGO Ideas set one day just like Sonic did?
With the licensing issue, I could see that, if they did do a PC port with no Toys To Life, or having the functionality being optional, I could see the port having each pack be a paid DLC if you want to use the characters without the portal, but if you already have the portal and the figures, you could just use your existing ones to unlock the figures without paying extra. Also, they could always, for a Switch or Switch 2 port, do the same thing that Skylanders Imatinators did where you have to just scan once on the Joy-Con or Pro Controller to unlock permanently in the game.
The licensing issue isn't necessarily the paywalled content, but rather the character being in the game in the first place. An ideal complete edition of the game should have a traditional character select menu. Since toys to life would no longer be a thing they could bring back story and free play mode, with characters from different franchises being unlocked by beating their level in the main story, their side story or in their open world.
@SickVoid the main reason I see the paywall option as likely is because then the licenses could be put on the DLC, meaning that the base game itself would have the chance to be cheaper, as otherwise if you do not paywall the content, the base game could be like $300 or more USD and would rarely go on sale, leading less people to buy it. But if it was about $60 USD base with $5 (Fun Packs) to $30 (Story Packs) per DLC, the chance that some IP holders would let the packs go on sale, and the option to claim the DLC by using already brought sets for some people, more people would buy the base game and buy one or two DLC of characters and levels they want, leading to more sales and more profit, potentially leading to reprints of the Dimensions sets and new packs to buy.
But if they just sell you all the game at once, they have nothing to gain from you after buying, maybe even losing money on all the fees, and if one IP holder says to take their stuff down, then all the game content goes down instead of just the singular packs.
one problem i could see with the "scan once unlock permanently" thing is it's not too hard to spoof NFC tags, which isn't a problem in most cases, but could be one here if it's an alternative to paying for a DLC.
Hahahaha god these comments are funny. Yall are so adorably naïve.
PLEASE LEGO, I _need_ a Lego Dimensions Deluxe or something like that, with all the content with NONE of the Toys to Life crap! This game is far too cool to be left behind and forgotten!!! I mean COME ON! How many other games let you play as Sonic the Hedgehog, Batman, Homer Simpson, and Doctor Who all in the same game?
It's basically impossible that the respective rights holders would all agree to relicense each IP, so a re-released Lego Dimensions would almost certainly have many of those IPs removed entirely.
EXACTLY BEEN SAYING THE SAME THING FOR A WHILE NOW ABOUT A NEW LEGO DIMENSIONS REMAKE GAME ESPECIALLY IN 2024 BECAUSE LEGO DIMENSIONS WAS A LEGENDARY LEGO GAME FR 💯.
Honestly, I'm fortunate enough that all my characters still work, with only Gimli and a couple of vehicle tags having stopped working for me (but fortunately I've ordered a new Gimli.) Hearing about the NFC having limited use is genuinely scary though, because I think thats what caused my original Gimli not to work for me anymore. It just makes me worried because at any moment someone like Sonic, Marceline, Newt, and even my go-to character Slimer could stop working at any moment in the near future. Again, I've luckily not had any other characters stop working for me other than Gimli, but it does still leave me worried about who'd be next to stop working.
LEGO Dimensions was a huge part of my childhood, and helped solidify my genuine love for crossovers along with Smash. But the notion that the characters may never work again is terrifying because that'd basically make the game unplayable entirely. I really hope by some miracle Tt Games could remake the game in UE5, since they've pretty much moved on from the software they used to make LD. If they dont though, then that pretty much dooms the game into becoming unplayable without emulation.
Even during its prime I had issues with the nfc tech I found I could sort of reboot the tag by reading it on my phone using an app I'm pretty sure the app could save the data and could in theory write it to a new tag and you can buy blank nfc tags you just lose the lego part
Honestly kinda makes me want to break out my old dimensions charters and make sure they all still work the characters more specifically maybe even Create a set of backup data
it is possible to make RFID backups, I would imagine RFID files of those are already online as well. it's not too hard to do, most phones have compatible hardware and will let you write to RFID tags that you can buy for very cheap online.
I know a lot of people that have done so with amiibo
4:18 although Disney now owns the Simpsons, it wouldn’t be that hard to get the license as Disney is already partners with Lego.
True in this case, it was just the easiest example I could think of with licensing changing hands!
I heard something about how recently because of a different Warner brothers owner or something Warner bros entertainment or whatever company owns Tt games can’t make games based off Disney properties or maybe non Warner bros properties or something like that and it kinda killed Lego games after skywalker saga but idk maybe try researching it yourself as I’m just saying this form memory.
I mean, I didn’t see them complaining when they made LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga, despite the fact that Disney currently owns Star Wars.
I think the real problem is that Disney and WB don't want their IP's in the same game. We've had Marvel and Star Wars LEGO games, We've had DC Superheroes LEGO games, but only DC appeared in Dimensions. Maybe Disney owning the Simpsons would cause licensing issues.
@ Actually, you might be right. But what if there was some way both Warner Bros. and Disney could actually work together to make it work?
I don’t know the first thing about modding, however I remember back in the day there was a glitch with the bonus world (The one where you battle several waves of enemies) where are you could access a character select meaning you could just turn into whatever character you wanted regardless if you had their figure or not.
I wonder if there’s a way to mod that character select into the normal gameplay on emulators. That could account for some of the features in Lego dimensions. Of course you would still need to occasionally open up a tab to represent the toy pad, but it would decrease the amount of times you would have to do that
Since it's in the game, there's 100% a way to turn it into a feature. All it requires is the right person/people and enough time to figure out how to make that work.
dude I literally see you everywhere
what the heck
Got a source on that?

My parents got the Lego Dimensions starter pack along with 3 fun packs in 2015, almost day 1 of the game release. Since then, I've kept all of the figures I've collected over the years, and some of them are going to be ten years old this year. My entire collection is probably worth over $1000, excluding all the packaging. The only packaging I've kept is an opened Sonic one since Sonic is my favorite character. I haven't tested them all yet, but so far, Wyldstyle, Chell, and the A-Team guy have stopped working for me, as well as both of Chell's "vehicles". That sucks, because now I can't even recreate the main storyline since Wyldstyle is broken. I really hope they revive this game somehow, this was my favorite game growing up and each time I look at my shelf of Dimensions figures I think back to what could've been...
at least Bad Cop and (I think) Chase McCain can use the Relic detector
@ThatLegoGuy-10140yes chase McCain can use the relic detector but SINCE WHEN COULD BAD COP THIS IS NEWS TO ME! Also, chase at least can’t master build but someone like unikitty can so wyldstyle’s abilities can be covered
Really hope LEGO somehow does a digital release. I put some money into buying the physical set, but the packs are just so expensive. Only solution for me was emulation. RPCS3 has Dimensions pad built in so it has to be pretty requested.
@@NoName-tq2mc I wish I’d known that before making the video!
@@GoblinBricks it was a very new addition and still is not very perfect, and before that, there was a very complex installation tutorial to get a virtual dimension pad working
Considering that video games nowadays are just expensive to make, and are expensive to purchase, we just have to be lucky if we could collect LEGO Dimensions sets.
I would love to see Lego try and rescue the figures somehow; I know sonic is now a theme and obviously HP came back- but we don’t have anything in terms of Beetlejuice or Gremlins in sets to lessen the blow
Beetlejuice and Gremlin sets would probably sell well. You may have just thrown a possible million dollar idea out into the world
Similarly a video by papaNCF "The BEST Doctor Who Game is Lost INSIDE Another Game" is the closest thing we have to a Lego Doctor Who game. It turns out you can spoof the physical requirements potentially lowering the barrier to entry and decaying lifespan of the original chips. Still doesn't help inaccessible DLC problem though.
Would be cool if there was a new version with all the content pre loaded into it.
That would be the most logical way to go around doing this. Probably would initially be 40-60 dollars (38-58 Euros/ 32-48 Pounds) and then they could do DLC that’s like 5 dollars (around 5 in Euro and Pound) OR make DLC more expensive but the main game cheaper . Both could work
I just love how Dimensions is technically canon to Portal, through Cave's multiverse. I mean, Glados _sung the ending song._ It's as close to an actual Portal 3 as I think we'll seriously get.
I owe almost everything as a story writer to Lego Dimensions, I was inspired by Lord Vortec and all the various ways the characters came together because of him. I went as far as to start writing and producing my own animated show with a similar story line. Lego Dimensions effectively gave me purpose to flesh out the characters I had written and create an entire Multiverse for them to inhabit.
Dude that’s incredible and an amazing impact the game must’ve had on you! I love hearing what everyone thinks about the game!
I wish a new game on style of Lego dimensions was made but minus the physical additions, with the multiverse being every where i think a lego multiverse game with as many of the old licences and more from Lego dimensions. I feel this would be some what successful and since it would all digital with the option of a disc form the game would have all the issues of the old game, and for the game characters and franchises added long after the original game would just be sold like extra large DLC's (due to new world having to be made)
The main reason why I want to be mega rich, is so I could bribe game making companies to make games like this. In fact if I (hypothetically) become rich and this don’t exist yet, I’ll let my money talk so this could be real. DONT BRIBE THE COPS THO! AND DONT EXPECT BRIBES IF YOU ARE A COP!!!
@cooperconn3424 lol i had the same idea, but also for Lego sets

Suddenly, I am reminded of the sad state of original Lego playsets. I remember that there were a huge slew of original LEGO worlds back in the 1990s and early 2000s, though Lego in current year is just Lego City, Ninjago, Dreamzzz, and Friends. The friends line in particular bothers me cuz the more human-like shapes of the characters feel like a missed opportunity to add more articulation points on a Lego-compatible toy you wouldn't find in a Minifigure.
I feel like the state of original playsets at the time of Lego Dimensions' release was worth mentioning, since Lego wouldn't have been nearly as much of a licensing nightmare if they still maintained the likes of Lego Castles and what not.
one thing that is really annoying is some ppl try to make tutorial videos on how to get the game on your pc but youtube try to take the videos down there are some that dont but some really good ones have
Piracy even on youtube is pretty much banned
Thats most likely because the video's show off how to get the rom of the game. Such a shame really.
Thankfully I still have a good majority of the figures working and I’ve kept them in a special box where they are kept for later uses when I feel like booting up Lego Dimensions again. Granted the amount of storage in GB are a lot to where I’d had to buy a separate storage unit for everything on there. To this day, I still have a soft spot for Lego Dimensions. all the toys for life games made my childhood...please don't let them be lost
Never played Dimensions, but I admire what it attempted to do. There are so many franchises they made levels for that have few or no sets: Mission Impossible, ET, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, and especially Back to the Future (which I've been wanting a dedicated theme for since I was about 8 years old). Just a shame that it may well disappear entirely within a few years.
I remember Lego dimensions. Had 2 full drawers of figures and vehicles. It was so much fun and I still remember the Gandalf figure not working the first time I used him. I also made a friend over the sonic dlc. So yeah good memories, hope it doesn’t die
skylanders and lego dimensions were my favorite of the toys to life era, and I still have my lego dimensions figures from years ago... sad to see lego dimensions slowly fading into obscurity, to the point that no one will be able to play it again.
Honestly had no idea it carried on beyond the Gremlins pack. This is also just an example of why it is bad to go fully digital or even fully physical, both options should always be in place, precisely to prevent the loss of media or back up options. With less companies opting for dvds etc; it won't be long before once something is off streaming it is gone for good is the way, already seeing that happen.
Emulation for this game is tricky but currently possible. I know Dolphin has built-in support for Skylanders, hopefully other emulators will manage this for Lego Dimensions
I would say I didn’t know this was your first video. I gotta say I’ve gotta respect that. Welcome to RUclips. ❤
My first proper video! Been doing some shorts since around last October!
As someone who had played LEGO Dimensions on Xbox 360 before everything shut down, I can confirm that it was better just to play on Xbox One anyway, because Sonic the Hedgehog's level would unexplainedly glitch out.
One good thing about the NFC tag issue is that it’s partially solved by the skylanders community with NFC cloning. With a lot of Skylanders figures getting old their NFC chips have begun to fail and programs have been made to let people copy and modify the data on the old chip to then put on a new one that can be put back in the toy or kept as a card
Such a shame. I never played this game nor intend to do so in the future, but as you said, Lost Media sucks. It'd be a travesty if our only means of experiencing the content is with old RUclips videos showcasing the content.
This was Sonic's debut to the LEGO scene, dammit. If it weren't for LEGO Dimensions we might've not had all those Sonic LEGO Sets at all. I mean, maybe it would've happened at some point, but maybe not this soon.
I miss the Toys-to-Life trend. I only collect amiibo (I finally completed the Super Smash Bros. collection last year), but seeing who would come to LEGO Dimensions was interesting as it was arguably LEGO's biggest crossover since the Movie Duology. A shame we aren't getting anymore movies, because I loved those, though the Ninjago one not so much.
I loved this game when I was a kid. It’s such a shame it was released right when toys to life was on the decline.
i always find it so cool how there's such passionate communities on sides of the internet i've never even heard of or seen before. never played the game but i hope the community is able to figure this out
LEGO Dimensions was and is a key point in my life, if it wasn't for it, I would have never have gained my love for dimensional universes and connected multiverses and become the world viewer and maker I am today. I thankfully was able to emulate it onto my laptop and PC with some help from a discord server who seeks to preserve the game and creating all the characters I didn't have my buying nfc tags and using a special app to write the characters, vehicles, and gadgets onto them. I already had a gateway and plenty of characters, but to fully access the game, I needed to make the rest, and that only cost me about $40-$50 dollars to do. I do really wish LEGO/TT Games go back and either create a sequel to the game without the gateway, or remake the game to become fully digital without physical components. Even if my die-hard skylanders fan friends say LEGO Dimensions was one of the worst in the genre, it is still one of my favorite games and I will never forget it nor let it go unforgotten. These Dimensions will Never Fall.
It was the introduction to the multiverse for a lot of people!
Thank you for your comment, it’s cool hearing about how the game has impacted people and how they’re playing it today!
I tried to write a letter to Warner Bros Games with the exact idea how disney infinity was made for PC. This is what they have told me:
"unfortunately we are not currently accepting, nor can we consider, any unsolicited material, ideas or suggestions regardless of the form in which they are received. Please understand that we are in no way making any judgment about the quality of your submission but rather as a WB company policy, we cannot review your submission."
And then they closed my ticket. Im not hating anyone or something like this, just wanted to share my experience.
It’s a shame how they treat the fans that care enough to actually write them. Well done for trying though, people like you who care are the ones that keep these games alive!
Lego dimensions has a really big place in my heart. I remember sinking hundreds of hours into it back in 2016/2017 and Recently I had decided to replay the game but I realized my wyldstyle had stopped working and my game kept crashing, so I ordered a new wyldstyle base as I still plan to go back and play the game soon, however I haven’t tried it and as far as I know, many more of my figures may no longer work. I hope that the game not only re releases in a fully digital fashion at some point, but I also really hope some of the minifigures get reproduced in some fashion. I never got any of the adventure time packs and now it would take over $100 dollars for me to do so and it really sucks. Also I’m kinda just holding out hope for a proper lord vortech figure after all these years.
Man I LOVE Lego Dimensions. They put a lot of effort into it and I loved every bit of it. Hopefully we don’t lose it forever
If PlayStation ever goes completely digital with no way to install a disc drive, I will be dropping it.
I remember Lego Dimensions! Even though we never got the game itself, I loved that we got minifigures for all these random characters that (at the time) we'd never find! Especially a lot of the 80s ones (BTTF! A-Team! Ghostbusters!) Nowadays, you'd have to spend hundreds of dollars on a set with those characters.
I don't know, I just really liked that. It was fun for me as a kid who liked the 80s.
As a PC only I was always jealous of LEGO dimensions specifically. I loved lego games growing I played every single one and it felt so unfair to not have any opportunity to give TTgames money to play dimensions on pc
This. I shouldn't have to buy a whole console just to play one game. Nintendo has this exact problem, with things like Mario Galaxy 2 not being on the Switch.
A good solution to the NFC Tags failing would be to use a Toys to Life Emulator. This would plug into the console or other device to play it on, and would serve as a replacement for the portals/interfaces. You could put in the entirety of a particular game's toys into the device, and you wouldn't have to worry about the tags becoming useless. Plus the models out there are compatible with Lego Dimensions, Disney Infinity, and the Skylanders series.
There are already two projects that make good use of this technology. Project DIRE, which started as a Disney Infinity Portal Emulator, but has been expanded to Skylanders and Lego Dimensions, and Pico ToyPad Emulator (PTPE), which uses a RPi Pico as a processor. So these could be good for the future. Both devices are open source, and if you have the right skills, can be assembled using pre-existing technology.
0:25 lego super sonic looks so dumb in dimensions compared to the actual minfigure released in 2024. kinda the opposite of lego metal sonic, whose dimensions design looks way better than the minifigure they made later on.
I think they call it “swings and roundabouts”
I loved this game and the toys were cool too, but ended up falling off simply because collecting the toys became too difficult. Sometimes I just couldn’t afford them and then later when I could they were to much of a pain to find because they sold out and didn’t keep making more of the old ones.
For starters, I kind of wish that they should’ve made a sequel, like in just a desk or a digital or whatever.
However, this will be difficult because of licensing issues and interference would probably disagree a lot if they wanted to like make a deal or so .
My brother and I would play Lego Dimensions all the time when we were younger, and we loved it so much. Even now, I can remember some of the levels and the variant builds for some of the cars. We gave it all to a family friend a long time ago, and I can only hope that they have taken care of it.
I think in the 2020s era, a lot of things are now going to be lost media or the tip of the ice berg and now the wii u and Xbox one and 360 and ps3 stores are closed and now lego dimiesions is sadly dead which became as lost media now
@@JulioLopez-e2d it’s only a matter of time for sure
I think the right word for this is inaccessibility. You can’t get access to theNintendo EShop or the Wii Shop Channel on your Wii U or 3DS Anymore, but a lot has already been documented thanks to RUclips let’s plays, as well as news headlines & articles. Same goes to PSN & Xbox Live exclusives and every video game dlc there is. It doesn’t become lost media unless there weren’t any footage of it that exists.
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios Actually you can still access those shops, you just can’t buy anything from them anymore. But you can still download what you bought before.
I'm so mad because I played this when I was younger. I loved the Portal level pack and it makes me sad that we're gonna lose the only Lego Valve content. Outside of fanmade figurines and fanmade sets, there has never been an official Valve related Lego product aside from this particular pack.
When I’m actually happy I still have two of the pads one being the ghostbuster one all in Bags and in a box.
I just recently found my old PS4 copy of Lego Dimensions and grabbed all the later content. I'm glad to see people talking about this since I enjoyed playing Lego Dimensions back when it came out and would hate to see it lost to time.
I wonder if anyone has archived the NFC data for all of the characters somewhere online, since that could allow people to make their own character tokens for the game.
I'm glad that Scooby-Doo isn't leaving the game since it's in Year 1. I'll be very sad if it does. I'll miss playing with the Year 2 stuff once it's gone and no longer accessible. Scooby-Doo is my favorite theme in LEGO Dimensions and my favorite classic cartoon. My favorite Scooby-Doo shows are Scooby-Doo Where Are You, The New Scooby-Doo Movies, The Scooby-Doo Show and Scooby-Doo And Scrappy-Doo. It's very interesting to see Mumsy-Doo and Dada-Doo (who appeared in the shows The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show, The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo) are in the game. I wish Scrappy-Doo, Scooby-Dum and Scooby-Dee had appeared in the game, too.
Scooby doo is great! If you get the content downloaded on your console you will always be able to access it, just make sure not to delete it to be safe! (PS3 is the real one to worry about right now, PS4 and Xbox One versions are still back compatible atm)
@@GoblinBricks Good. I hope Year 2 on Xbox One and PS4 won't ever go away. Anyway, If Lego Dimensions does get a digital version like the Disney Infinity series did, I hope it'll have the year 2 content and maybe add year 3 stuff for the digital version.
I wish I had bought some of the later packs back then. Thank you for bringing attention to this issue. This is yet another case of physical media being sadly disregarded. We should not forget these parts of media and do what we can to preserve them.
Lego Dimensions and Lego Rock Band, are legitimately the only ps3 Lego games, that I still haven't got in my collection.
I remember really wanting Lego dimensions but my parents said it was too expensive.
And when I saved enough of my money it was already gone off shelves.
If they made it half the price it would have been more accessible and by extension given them more sales.
But Lego will always be trying to find ways to save their own pockets.
My crush on unikitty developed here
It was genuinely one of my favorite games to complete and even featured my absolute FAVORITE controls for Sonic. A few years back I managed to fully 100% the entire game on Xbox One. All collectibles, all achievements, all packs. I would GLADLY replay it all again if it got a rerelease, especially without the physical toys.
As soon as this was announced without any sort of PC port, I knew that this game, from a preservation standpoint, was doomed.
I'm really hoping that they go the Disney Infinity route. I don't care if they make it so you have to buy individual DLC packs to get the full Lego Dimensions experience. Ideally it wouldn't, but I just want the option to play this game as easily as I can play Disney Infinity on PC. 😔
Unlike most dream games a lego dimensions reboot without toys to life has a solid chance of happening. Skywalker saga proved lego, and most importantly people, still cared and would flock to this exact thing (still waiting for that batman one 👀)
I really would like to play LEGO Dimensions but the prices for the game + gamepad+ characters and stuff, is way too much for me sadly. I would like a PC port of the game with all content available.
Also just wanna point out that if licenses are such an issue, I don't see why they can't just sell the content with trickier licenses as traditional DLC. It wouldn't even be the first time LEGO has sold extra characters as DLC
1:53 I wish Nintendo listened to backlash and kept things like the Wii eshop up
honestly this news is DEVASTATING to me because lego dimensions was part of my childhood. i got it during christmas once and i have so many characters and packs and hearing this news is making me feel worried (((( Warner bros if your seeing this PLEASE make a digital version so the old stuff does not get lost to time!))))
To know, that I've been around for the birth and (soon to be)death, of the greatest Lego game I had ever played. Without this game. We wouldn't have had Lego Sonic sets. And, I really wish we could have more set for the Beetlejuice license besides the fun pack.
Pricing is an issue. I calculated how much my Lego dimensions shelf is worth in estimate and it’s about £3000
Fully agree, as I said in the video pricing has always been an issue with this game.
I swear the Only thing Dimensions is known for now is the Adventure Time and Sonic the Hedgehog Packs
Agreed, those and Doctor Who/Portal were the big franchises people cared about
I still actively play Dimensions on my Xbox 360, it’s one of the few games I truly love and will always come back to, so this news has me really scared. Thankfully I’ve already got just about all of the characters I want, having bought only a couple on the aftermarket since the physical products retired, and I have downloaded all of the applicable DLC so that’s not a worry, but now I have to be concerned about the tags wearing out??? I don’t have the technical ability to make a solution for myself so I just have to hope somebody comes up with something that’s accessible to me 😭😭
I will actually cry if I stop being able to play this game please help
I would say the same for skylanders, but my brain is convinced it'll not get re-released or on game pass because of the point that, it'll be hard to it without the portal & figures. Plus, you're right on the idea of that since you could just put characters on there without the portal & figures. But for skylanders, I don't see it on game pass because of limitations.
Toys to life is such an awkward genre to rerelease, even the Infinity 3.0 I showed in the video is missing a couple figures somebow
I mean, what if all the Toys to Life video games COULD get rereleased, but with a twist: You no longer need the figures to play, as literally everything is unlocked from the very start. Pretty cool, huh?
I still have my copy of Lego Dimensions, along with all the character packs my parents ever bought for me as a kid. It's so sad to see this game is at risk of being mostly lost to time.
If I knew anything about porting, I would have done this ages ago. I loved this game as a kid and am so sad that it's near unplayable nowadays
I have notice when I tried to places Finn in the base, his NFC had stopped working. It makes me sad because I love playing as him. I really hope one day we will get a definitive version of the game. 😢
also Dimensions has one of the few official Portal games.
I really hate when games hop on a bandwagon or try capitalizing on a popular genre just for it to quickly start crumbling and becoming oversaturated.
Like a very common issue with these is that there are only so many people willing to invest time and money into these experiences, and just like having too many redundant streaming services people will just find ways to cut back on whatever ones they don't feel as strong an attachment to.
All this to say, if this game is going to exist and stay accessible to people still willing to get it then it needs to have a complete all in one purchasable version for modern systems.
Give us Lego Dimensions 2!
@@BlackFlash09 would make my year!
Didn’t realize the scanner didn’t last. Thankfully I have a ps3 and can access all the year 2 content and I have a decent collection. But man this is deeply concerning if I ever want play again when I’m much older. This game is very nostalgic to me and means a lot
NOOO, I HAVEN'T FINISHED THE PORTAL LEVEL YET THEY CAN'T DO THIS
@@tamamo3964 portal is year 1 content and will always be available on the disc, don’t worry!
I remember seeing this when it was brand new. At first I thought it was stupid, but I gave into its temptation.
In order to unlock other worlds and do certain puzzles, you’d need to buy physical characters, which is more money. It reminds me of those free AppStore games that have the option to use real money to unlock in game stuff. While yeah, Lego Dimensions is slightly different, it’s still a cashgrab.
I still have the set somewhere in a box somewhere and honestly, it is cool at first, but it gets boring overtime. (I got the Xbox 360 version)
Overall, this is an easily forgettable game. I don’t regret getting the DLC stuff, nor do I regret playing it, but I’m kind of disappointed to how the game was handled.
they need to bring lego dimensions back.
fr bro and crazy how close we were to get lego dimensions 2 last few years in 2023-2024 :(
1:44 "There's no way of using them; unless you already have a system with the DLC downloaded, you're out of luck." As of when? Because my Xbox 360 version could redownload the content packs in late September 2024 (or was it early October 2024?) if I remember correctly. But I had to access the "Purchase History" menu from the Xbox 360 menus. I didn't succeed by using the DLC Manager on the _game's_ main menu.
Exactly I wrote a comment saying this video is exaggerating and how the video doesn’t clarify things like it’s still perfectly runs fine on the Xbox one and PlayStation 4.
Yar har fiddle dee dee
@@constructionsproductionseven my copy of the PS4 version which is compatible with the PS5 can let you redownload all the Year 2 content in the game.
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios yeah I wish they mentioned that in the video more clearly so people aren’t quick to assume that it’s more dire
People don't understand that the digital stores work differently from one another. For the 360, all free DLC can still be downloaded. The thing with Dimensions, though, is that TT decided to use their own servers to host the DLC, and there's been an issue where you can't even click on the DLC. This means there's an issue on TT's end, which they're probably not going to fix since the Xbox Marketplace was shut down.
TL, DR: Digital storefronts are not created equal, and they're a confusing mess of technological wizardry.
Ok, so when you mentioned the IPs changing hands, I went to check the owners of all the IPs in LEGO Dimensions (I'm assuming all the references used, like the Flintstones are also owned by the companies they got deals with). The thing is, most of the time IPs change hands, it's because of a buyout or merger, which means the number of companies to deal with decreases. If they wanted to re-release the game right now, they would need a deal with (In no particular order):
- Warner Bros Discovery (Tt is already owned by them, so that one is pretty much free)
- LEGO (Obviously)
- NBCUniversal (Tricky, but doable. Might be easier to do NBC and Universal separately)
- Valve (Possibly the easiest one, other than WBD and LEGO)
- Disney (Disney and Lego have a good history together. I don't think they would be super easy to convince, but also not the hardest)
- BBC (Only really Doctor Who, as far as I can tell, but the thing is, it's distributed by Disney internationally now, which means Disney might have the rights outside the UK)
- Sony (This is the one I think will be the most difficult, because there are multiple IPs, and Sony is a Japanese company (Japan has stupidly strict copyright laws, and companies there are happy to use them to the fullest))
- Sega (Just Sonic. Might even be possible to do this one through Universal, but since the stuff in-game is based on the Sonic games, and not the movies, I doubt that would work)
- Nintendo? (Really just for LEGO City Undercover, but, that has been re-released for other consoles, so Nintendo might not actually have any rights to it, other than the few parts that reference Nintendo IPs in the Wii U and Switch versions of the game)
That's it. The entire list. Most of which are still actively working with LEGO.
Just as proof, here is the list of IPs, and their distributors (Warner Bros has about a billion subsidiaries, so I'm gonna simplify all of them to just WB, unless they have a name that doesn't include the words "Warner Bros", or a variation of it):
Year 1:
- DC Comics (DC < WBD)
- The LEGO Movie (WB < WBD)
- Lord of the Rings (WB < WBD)

*Pending merger with Skydance
Personally, I don't think it's as impossible for them to re-release as you would think at first glance, since most of it is just owned by one company, but If they do re-release it, I would be shocked if it isn't in the form of a base game and like 30 DLC packs, so that the IP owners can get their share of the game sales.
The biggest problem by far would be the lack of the toy pad, since a lot of the game's mechanics are centered around being able to move characters between spots on the toy pad, but I don't think that would be impossible to fix. They could for example have an in-game menu to manage the toy pad (inconvenient, but guaranteed to work, as long as the game works, and zero setup required), a phone app (Likely to break within 10 years, but would make syncing the game to the phone very easy), a local web server hosted by the game (Not a separate server, because that would require server maintenance, and would possibly have a lot of lag), that can be accessed with a browser (would need more technical understanding than the target audience likely has (really just typing an IP address into the search bar in the browser), but would also make it possible to have the toy pad on a different device). In-game menu + web server would probably be the best option for future-proofing, imo.
Dude that's a lot of research, thank you!
I hope WB Games makes a reboot of LEGO Dimensions with some of the old franchises from both year 1 & 2 except The Simpsons cause of Disney and also hope we get new franchises and you know something LEGO Dimensions was my favorite game ever
I know WB Games won’t do that. They would only make games that’s part of their 4 biggest IPs they owned.

Yeah!!!
I've thought about how they could redo this game. They should remake it and have the additional characters and stages be DLC you can buy digitally, but also sell the boxes that have codes for it. Then you could get the content for cheaper but they still make them real figures and have them give you the in-game content.
Commenting to boost engagement on this video and help it with the algorithm. Lego fans have to know about this!
You’re awesome, thank you! :)
It’s crazy that this video was uploaded because just one night ago I was playing dimensions on my Xbox series x (I have every single pack) and I was thinking how sad it would be to completely lose this game one day. And it’s obvious how we would lose it, but this video made it all that more real.
I am a lucky owner of the Lego dimensions starter pack and the sonic pack and it’s really hard to see this game fade away it was one of those game where I could just get away from life and enjoy these story’s
When you talk about not having a digital version in the Xbox One store if you type in Lego dimensions it has the game come up but you can’t download it the only thing it says is “Currently Unavailable” but you are still able to download Year 2 Updates due to them being completely separate
I mean the full game was never released anywhere digitally. The game has never been available on Xbox without a disc, I would recommend claiming all of the digital updates to your account sooner than later!

We should make an online petition for a Lego Dimensions remake with no toys-to-life... If it got enough traction and publicity, maybe Lego would consider it (a man can dream at least).
Wait, are you saying that my year two figures I can’t use them on my Xbox one version of Lego dimensions or do I have to get a new Xbox series X for it to work I didn’t understand
As long as you have the DLC packs from the Microsoft Store (which are free) you can use all of your year 2 content :)
@ oh that’s a relief, I wish you could mentioned that in the video got me startled lol
I once had a dream where Tt Games decided to release a remaster port of Lego Dimensions with the use of a character selector, updated visuals, and more franchises coming to the roster. Plus it also updated some of the characters such as adding more incarnations to Doctor Who and expanding on the unreleased storyline to make the game longer
