Plus their games may have influenced Astro bot in a way. Shape wise, both characters almost look similar, except one is made of stitching, the other a pure robot
Ah man, really enjoyed Rescue Mission on PSVR 1. Still pissed that there wasn't a VR option for the new Astro Bot game. As much as I've enjoyed his previous iterations, I'm a bit skeptical of his ability to truly be the face of Playstation. Astro Bot himself lacks a distinct identity, mainly since he's pretty much limited to squeaks and gestures and dumb little dances; all of which are also done by the other bots in his universe. Maybe if they put him in a different setting where there weren't hundreds of other similar bots he'd feel a bit more unique? Even still, it would be a tough task to get audiences to bond with a character that can't talk imo. It's been done, but the challenge is real.
There's enough problems with porting over the new astro game to VR that I understand why they didn't do it. Rescue mission integrated motion controls into all the abilities and hid bots specifically in a way that works for a person in VR to physically look around for them. If AB was in VR it would just be like watching it on a big ass screen, and it's not like it's first person also which can help with immersion. I think the choice makes sense personally There are definitely still questions about the characters ability to be that mascot though, i agree. It's clear that's what they want him to be/what he is right now, but I agree that his design is a little too "default character" and the bots all looking like him doesn't help. But the foundations of the world/level style they have and the clear love for platformers it shows (plus the great use of the ps5 controller) is such a solid foundation that I think they can do a gradual pivot into a more standalone character and pull it off well. They have a talented team and I deciding to give them the benefit of the doubt

@@collinkaufman2316 True, but you couldn't really call a specific Minion a mascot. IMO Astro has the same problem. He doesn't stand out enough against the other Bots to be his own character.
Astro Bot is closer to what personality cores are to Valve than what Mario is to nintendo. If you want to stay within the realm of nintendo you could say Astro Bot is Sonys Cpt.McCloud.
Astro Bot is easily one of my favorite games of all time. My brother and I grew up with PlayStation and we had an awesome time playing around with the PlayStation models in Playroom while reminiscing on the past. Seeing so many characters we’ve enjoyed but have long forgotten conjured up good memories. Astro Bot is a celebration of PlayStation and I think it does it quite tastefully.
I was also wondering about Astros future. Mario re-invents itself almost every time a main line Mario comes out. This is difficult to do with what Astro has established so far.
I hope that the next entry for the Astro bot series is gonna be a PSVR2 title. Mysteriously, it‘s the first pice of major hardware since the PS4 launch that doesn‘t have a tech demo. I‘d be fine with an Astro bot tech demo arriving late to the headset, I just want something!
For future astrobot games if they started experimenting with different genres for Astrobot would be interesting. Very similar with what Nintendo did with Mario too. An Astrobot sports game. An Astrobot JRPG, Astrobot Racing! The sky's the limit. Nintendo has kind of already laid the framework for how to successfully establish a mascot and make fun interesting games across genres and still make them feel fresh and new.
One of the reasons I think Astro Bot is cool is because it takes so many ideas from Nintendo games and puts them all under one roof, however this can also be a bad thing depending on how you look at it
👀 I'm definitely super impressed with Astro Bot, never thought it would take off the way it did. To your point, I'm not sure what else they could do for the future; this latest version was jam-packed already with adventure & so many things to do.

I think the choice makes sense personally
There are definitely still questions about the characters ability to be that mascot though, i agree.
Mario barely says anything either.
It worked for Despicable me
@@RayzaNC It's a little different since Mario started back before speech was even possible in games. He was also one of the most readable characters on the NES, and his games were some of the best.
Still, it's possible to make characters that don't speak but are well loved. It's just harder these days.
@@collinkaufman2316 True, but you couldn't really call a specific Minion a mascot. IMO Astro has the same problem. He doesn't stand out enough against the other Bots to be his own character.
"What's Playstation's mascot?"
The only acceptable answer is Kat from Gravity Rush
Sackboy: "Look what they need to mimic a fraction of my power."
This little guy won my heart big time, hes so cute.
7:52 The game awards : write that down! write that down!!
GAME OF THE YEAR!!😊
I was also wondering about Astros future. Mario re-invents itself almost every time a main line Mario comes out. This is difficult to do with what Astro has established so far.
I've joined an elite club of people who subscribed to this channel before it blew up. Great stuff man
Great video! This is the first video of yours that I've seen, and it was enough to make me sub. Shocked you don't have more! Awesome job!
this just won goty
Better analysis.. "he doesn't beat clank" 💯
I think the thing that really makes Astor bot stick out was that he wasn't made to be the mascot, he's been chosen by the fans
“Congrats, your on the likes of Mario”
“Awesome! Who is my creator”
“ *your a mistake* “
Astro bot rescue missing is just literally multiplayer but you are both players at once
Astro Bot is extremely creative and cute. Great graphics and physics too, it’s convincing on all levels. Love playing it
Game of the year... Astro Bot. LMAO
LOZ pfp
@ Okay..? What does that have to do with anything? I like Astro Bot, it’s just funny.
Really, really great video. Comparing it to something like Mario really allows you to see the possibilities here.
Algorithm recommending good shit from small creators. You love to see it. Subbed!
literally nobody would recognize astro bot unless they’re super into video games
sackboy crying in the corner:
I was literally talking about this the other day and your video came up on my feed this morning…phones are listening. Good video though
S- s-.....so im an ACCIDENT?!?!?
1:14 woah infamous mention. I feel like no one knows that game exists. It was so freaking good.
It’s been sack boy for as long as I can remember. I did grow up with ps3 mostly.
What game is that @ 7:05? Wish Astro would come to the PC. Great video. Liked + Subbed
Puppeteer.
It's another game by Japan Studio.
@@epiphaner Thank you!
4:21 that’s a bit to specific…
I can’t shake the feeling that these little guys remind me of the iron giant
Im a time traveler from 2030, Astro bot racers just went quadruple platinum.
and Astro Bot win GoTY
Little Big Planet is closer to being Mario for PS than Astrobot.
A really impressive video. I was surprised to see that your channel only has 420 subscribers. For now anyways ;)
For future astrobot games if they started experimenting with different genres for Astrobot would be interesting. Very similar with what Nintendo did with Mario too. An Astrobot sports game. An Astrobot JRPG, Astrobot Racing! The sky's the limit. Nintendo has kind of already laid the framework for how to successfully establish a mascot and make fun interesting games across genres and still make them feel fresh and new.
i really love this nintendo game remake, like u just turn back time
Snake from MGS was a pretty great Mascot for years.
MGS is Konami's IP, not Sony.
@ doesn’t have to be a Sony IP to be a mascot. Crash Bandicoot wasn’t a Sony IP either. It was naughty dog owned by universal.
sackboy should've stayed as the mascot he was perfect man
One of the reasons I think Astro Bot is cool is because it takes so many ideas from Nintendo games and puts them all under one roof, however this can also be a bad thing depending on how you look at it
congrats on the hit video! keep it up! 😅
I keep getting Banjo Kazooie and Crash Bandicoot confused with each other
👀 I'm definitely super impressed with Astro Bot, never thought it would take off the way it did. To your point, I'm not sure what else they could do for the future; this latest version was jam-packed already with adventure & so many things to do.
Astro Bot did evolve into the ultimate Mascot after Jak and Rayman alike.
