JOHNOOH -I, for one, support your potential alcoholism. These guys have been at the heart of my current fascination and appreciation of whisky in all it’s forms. I’m really liking scotch right now and look forward to appreciating Irish.
What Dan said about it being widely available is balls on. The first time I had Redbreast was with an army buddy who had come into town. We went for a slice of pizza at Shakespeare's (Columbia Missouri) and while we were waiting we looked at the top shelf of the little bar, sitting right on the end was Redbreast. My buddy asked if I had ever had it? I hadn't. After a wee taste we bought the bottle! Easily my favorite whiskey... damn, it's good!
Hey guys, I've been a drinker for years but recently discovered my love of Whiskey. I've noticed among whiskey reviewers that if a bottle of Hibiki Harmoney was there it was usually almost finished. So I went and bought a bottle and wow. Now I just need a proper Glass to drink it from. Kepp up the good work
Tried Red Breast for the first time. WOW such an easy, smooth, delicious whiskey. The wife is becoming a whiskey whisky drinker with me because of red breast. We combined drank half the bottle tonight because we couldn’t get enough of the taste. I played a trick on her, I poored her a sip of Johnny walker platinum. She was like what happened? Lol. We learned we can’t drink the two at the same time. Red Breast is my new go to whiskey. Thanks guys
Just bought my first Irish Whiskey…Red Breast 12….extremely pleased with this! I’ve been hunting mainly bourbons but when I need a break….I’ve enjoyed Balvenie 14 and Glenfiddich 14 bourbon barrel. I’m loving this buttery smoothness in this Red Breast! Very nice
If you like GreenSpot, check out Greenspot Chateau Louisville Barton, *finished in Bordeaux cask or in October there is a white wine cask Green spot being released. A Californian vineyard- unsure which vineyard... in the irish market- unsure about international release. Green spot for me is the quintessential Pot Still- vanilla, cinnamon, clove with a long smooth finish... the Bordeaux cask only heightens this will the introduction of fig, red grape and claret.
Red Breast 12 is one of the bottles that I keep on my shelf all of the time. There is something very comforting about it. I do recommend that you get your hands on a bottle of their 15, I believe it to be the best "expression"
Just bought this and watching this video whilst I watch it… the nose is quite different to the palate. The biscuit notes are stronger on the nose than palate. It’s a great dram. Rich and full of flavour.
I've tried a lot of the whiskeys on this channel. But this is the episode that inspired me to start my own collection. I appreciate your banter and whiskey knowledge.
Max, I would pay $20 for one, $15 ea. for two ($30 total). I would prefer lower than that, but I see this as supporting you guys and I do not mind paying more for that.
Just picked up a bottle of RB 12. I have a nice selection of whiskies, but didn't have any Irish. Picked this up at our LCBO on sale. It's amazing. Great vid here guys.
Way to be a positive influence in the local market. My #1 point of acquisition has got to be in tune with the Whisk(e)y Vault's reviews. More than once I have found a new offering, within a week of the RUclips upload....your either making my life easier, or just more expensive!! Thanks for this new problem.
I've gotten a couple glencairns from distilleries and they tend to go for $10-12 a piece, which I think is fair. If you can make them for something close to that, I'd definitely pick a couple up (assuming I don't lift those 2 next week).
i think the $15 range is a good place for that glass, i wouldnt pay more than $20 for one though. also side note, this episode was especially enjoyable. something about your guys' mood or something. just the banter was great and you talked A LOT about the whiskey. 10/10 and i cant wait to buy a glass or two
I am a whisky fan and has most whiskeys I see you guys having. Still I like to get whisky from my collection and ship same whisky you reviewing. I love your knowledge and admiration towards whisky. While watching video show mention of ardbed 10 which is my best whisky till now.
I have spent the last week or so, binge watching your channel, and i literally just bought a set of Glencairn glasses this morning. I then visited your website from another video and found you sell glasses. I will have to buy yours as well some day, but i just bought $80 worth of Whiskey last night without the wife's approval, so I need to lay low for a few days... I love your channel and the Whiskey Biscuit channel. I look forward to visiting some day when the distillery is open.
I got a bottle of Redbreast 12 last night with my first bottle of Laphroaig and wow. There's too much to say about that. I'm down with peet/dirt/moss though so I'm good.
Hell yea I'd buy a glass or two if somewhere under $20 ea. Great episode. I love Red Breast enough that I didn't remember if I still had some so bought a bottle then got home and found I still had one, score!
Here is how I rank them: Jameson = mix with ginger ale; Green Spot = rocks only; Redbreast = neat only. I love them all and all are in my cabinet. But, all of the Redbreasts are special especially 12 yr CS!
Hi guys. Just cracked open a bottle of this last night. Not sure what to make of it at the moment. I wasn't too impressed. Unusual cos I love Irish whiskey. It's very light and virtually no alcohol burn and the finish is gone immediately. I love the powers 12. Maybe it will improve with some time.
Superb Irish whiskey. You will never mistake Irish whiskey for anything but Irish whiskey. Candy, honey, vanilla, spice. Beautiful. Not for everyone, though. An acquired taste for sure.
If we have all learned nothing else from this channel we have learned this.... "For those glasses I would happily pay $100 ... of Daniel's money! " (credit Rex the Almighty)
My birthday is coming up on the 23rd and she who must be obeyed said I could spend $75 for my birthday. I ended up getting a bottle of Hibiki Harmony based on your review of it. Upon discovering I had enough for a budget bottle, and decided to take the plunge in to the Islay region on Daniel's recommendation and got Black Bottle. After tasting Black Bottle I must say I am now ready to see what the smoke monster of the Islay region has to offer
Great episode! I'll be celebrating my 22nd birthday today with a brand new bottle of Glenfiddich 12 while I wait out yet another hurricane. A whiskey vault glass sounds great, I would love to get some for me and some friends. I would definitely pay anywhere from 10$ to 15$ for it.
I started on Rum and then moved to Scotch. It was tough to make that switch but then tried Bruichladdich Port Charlotte and I absolutely loved it. I found out that I apparently love sweetness (Rum in abundance there) and smoke (Islay). I'm hoping to try Redbreast now and see if I like that too. Trying to make my way into Irish Whiskey, then on to Japanese.
Have only tried Jamesons as far as Irish goes, but I think Irish is my favorite category. Watching this to make sure Redbreast or Greenspot is what I want for my birthday.
just Ordered a bottle of Redbreast 12 and a Lagavulin 16... I'm a beginner in whiskey, the only one i drank and liked is the classical Jameson recently tried the Chivas Regal, but damn that's strong, i hope these upcoming 2 bottles will be for me. if not, then maybe whiskey is not for me
I was excited for this episode since I bought Redbreast 12 earlier this year and enjoy it. I look forward to trying Green Dot. As for the glasses, put me down for a couple at $12-15
Cookies and biscuits are objectively different things, something that a lot of people don't understand. Biscuit means cooked twice, cookie means cooked once. If a biscuit is only cooked once, it's a cookie. If a cookie is cooked twice, it's a biscuit. Nowadays, biscuits are hardly ever cooked twice, so most things you'll come across are actually cookies.
I bought a glass from A. Bowman Smith Distillery for 7 bucks if I remember correctly. I remember thinking it was not over priced at say 15. I guess you need to factor shipping and packaging. Mine was wrapped in paper and I carried it out in a bag, no box.
My dad, who's not a fan of whisky, told me about a whisky he had in his youth. It was called Mac Scot, it is no longer available. He and his friends called it ''nackskott'', which in swedish means ''neckshot''. Referring to execution by shot to the back of the head. It was the cheapest whisky available, and it was supposedly really bad. Do you have any whiskies you avoid at any cost?
1st of all along with the tribe this is easily my favorite source for whisk(e)y knowledge and reviews! Also wanted to know if there is any chance we'll get a Redbreast 27 review in our future?!
You learned me on the whisk(e)y. I'll try on the pricing of the glasses. Cost of glass + labor rate (divide your hourly rate for labor by the number of glasses an hour you can make) + profit margin (how much money you want to make) = total cost for consumer. I don't see it as "hey I'm going to buy these to drink all my whisk(e)y" but more as "I want to support these guys and the channel".
Finally! Really like it and cannot wait to try the Lustau edition I have stashed. I prefer Green Spot but only slightly, however Yellow Spot, in my humble opinion is not worth the premium.
You want us to buy glasses without whiskey in them?!.....8 bucks....10 with a hands free, quick release Rex harness that can mount to a mooch necklace or a belt.
Update on a purchase, I did manage to find Laphroaig Lore at my local liquor store. Dads birthday is in November so I have hid it in my apartment away from my other whisky to avoid any confrontations while I am not looking.
Just got a bottle of this and drinking a dram now. Very complex, like a scotch. I do kind of miss the coconut notes I get from Jameson, though. The sherry is light, but comes through nicely. Overall, I’d definitely buy again. Up to this point, my only Irish experience had been Jameson, so it’s interesting to see where else they can take the category.
So I recently became aware of a whiskey named Sierra Norte. What's so particular about this whiskey and what got my attention is that is the first whiskey on the market coming from Mexico. They have three different products each made with different corn: White corn, yellow corn and black corn. You guys should review it if you can find it.
Here I can get an non graphed glencairn glass for 6 euro, so I would pay 10-15 for a graphed one. Also a whisky suggestion from me to review is the Benriach 16 ;) cheers
Glencairn glasses are generally around $8 online, and etching probably costs you virtually nothing (not counting the cost of the etcher. I'm assuming you invested in that for another purpose), but you obviously have a distinctive brand that's unique and worth something, so I could see paying between $10-$13 per glass. Maybe $11.99 each, or 2 for $20?
hell yes! i was wondering when you would get to it. I actually bought redbreast 12 a few weeks ago cause I remembered Daniel pouring it for the modern rogue people and i wanted to style an irish whiskey made the old style irish way. thats when I realized you never did video on it. and it hurt pouring my self a $60 whiskey so I bought normal jameson for every day. so this episode was basically a mirror of my nights after work. of course till the mooch mentioned green spot. as for the classes i would pay up to but not exceeding $8 per glass plus tax and shipping and handling. i would want set of 4 and not want to pay more than $40 if possible. $45 if i had to.
Just started enjoying bourbon and Redbreast 12 was my 4th purchase and it is smooth on the nose and smooth going down. BTW I purchased one of your Glencairn Magnificent Bastard glass. Love it!
New to this channel. I can't get enough. You guys are very lerned, but don't come off snobbish in the least. Thank you for expanding my whisk(e)y pallet and keep up the good work!! P.s. Green Spot is the nectar of the gods
Since Daniel mentioned he smokes cigars, I'm curious which ones are his favorites. The Arturo Fuente Hemingway line is pretty good, but for me it has to be the maduros. I prefer the Oliva Serie V line. (The Melanio and Melanio Maduro are excellent in my opinion.) One other is the Blanco Nine, by Blanco Cigars. (toro, robusto, double corona, the JT Limitado is really good.) The Nine goes really well with Flor de Cana 7 year old rum, from Nicaragua. Sad thing is it's almost impossible for me to find where I live.
Not sure if you saw my comment a few posts back but I have something to practice your blending skills. Recently had a friend over for an Irish whiskey tasting with Green Spot, Red Breast 12 and Connemara Single Malt. At the end I mixed them together and it was pretty amazing. Not sure of the exact proportions but believe it was around 1 to 1.
You may have to mess with the proportions bc the glasses were all different levels and I didn't measure before dumping them in one glass. But in theory it was prob close to about 1-1. You won't be disapointed. It's all the great things about Green Spot and Red Breast, but with a kick of peat from the Connemara.
What has a narrower flavor profile, American or Irish whiskey? Or should I ask bourban or Irish whiskey to make it a better defined question? Please keep reviewing more Irish and Japanese whiskey!
Very time I watch an episode another whiskey goes on the list, I first started with makers mark and then moved on to tomintoul 10 and laphoraig I currently have Benromach 10 which you really need to review !!! Next on the list is Suntroy Hibiki Harmony.
Great review! So far my favorite Irish is the Redbreast 12yr, but it was interesting to see it compared to Greenspot (not yet tried)...nice to know that there are interesting differences/nuances to be explored in the Irish genre, and slightly less of a task than with Scotch. Cheers from Austria!
I payed 10 CAD$ for my plain glencairn glass. I would consider buying labeled glass for 5 extra $ per glass. This means that would mean 12.25 USD with today's exchange rate.
I've spent ~$10 per glass for some nice Glencairn glasses. I dropped about $15 (if I remember correctly) for one engraved by Laphroaig. I guess it depends on what you engrave on it.
Hey guys, I'm from Turkey and love the show, last day I was wondering if there was any turkish whiskey distilleries and I encountered, the only and the last, one called Ankara Viski owned by a Turkish tobacco and alcoholic beverage company named Tekel in 1963. The funny story behind is that when it was first produced in the capital, the board of the institution invited a well known and reputable whisky expert from Scotland. When the test was asked, he replied as “Very complex. Nice drink. But totally not a Whisky, let me ask which type of spirit is this?” Disappointment :(
Funny note speaking of Shortbread Biscuits. The Walkers Shortbread factory is less than a mile from Aberlour distillery. Is this some whisky biscuit conspiracy?
Considering that a set of 4 Glencairn glasses is about $25 on amazon, I say $20/ engraved unit is fair. Sign me up! Also you must make THE Mooch glass and in larger size if possible ;)
You guys inspire me to be an alcoholic.

Is it smooth enough for a beginner?

I'm drinking a dram of Redbreast while watching you two go on. That makes the experience even better!

Just started enjoying bourbon and Redbreast 12 was my 4th purchase and it is smooth on the nose and smooth going down. BTW I purchased one of your Glencairn Magnificent Bastard glass. Love it!
Who took Knappogue Castle 12? Rex? I knew I shouldn't mention it few episodes ago. At least tell us how was it...
We pulled it down for class!
New to this channel. I can't get enough. You guys are very lerned, but don't come off snobbish in the least. Thank you for expanding my whisk(e)y pallet and keep up the good work!! P.s. Green Spot is the nectar of the gods
Daniels beard at 3.10/3.11... sparkly... By the way, RB12 is and always will be pure pot still delicious. Thanks for the reviews dudes.
Laghroig 10 was my entry level scotch and from then on. i was hooked on the stuff. Glasses are great. I would pay 12 or 13 for them.
Hemingways are my number 1 favorite non-cuban. Flor de las Antillas "My Father" series is pretty cool too.
Picked up my first bottle of Redbreast! Bravo....!! Irish indeed, but, not a $54.00 whiskey...love it though.
Absolutely love Red Breast. My top Irish of all time.
As for the glassware, ~$9 per or $30 for 4?
$10 per and $28 for four?
Powers John's Lane bests it easily imo
I would be happy to pay 25 to 30 for a pair. Especially if it keeps you doing what you do. Thank you for the knowledge and the entertainment.
Great review!! Thanks guys!!
Just ordered a bottle of Redbreast 12 based in part on your video!
I never had a glass of Whiskey in my life, but you guys are really fun to watch.
Must be done!
You may have to mess with the proportions bc the glasses were all different levels and I didn't measure before dumping them in one glass. But in theory it was prob close to about 1-1. You won't be disapointed. It's all the great things about Green Spot and Red Breast, but with a kick of peat from the Connemara.
$10 - $15 I think is the usual going price. Don't take too long though, need to get my brother some for the holidays.
Purchased my 1st bottle of RedBreast 12...gonna enjoy some by the campfire next weekend. Hope it's as delicious as you guys say!
Powers John's Lane is my fav Pot Still. Magnificent whiskey.
What has a narrower flavor profile, American or Irish whiskey? Or should I ask bourban or Irish whiskey to make it a better defined question?
Please keep reviewing more Irish and Japanese whiskey!
I think Irish is narrower, but mostly because there's less happening right now.
Very cool idea with the glasses. I vote charging a little extra and throwing lids in.
You should try green spot with redbreast 21. I get a lovely coconut flavor from the 21. Might make for a better comparison
Very time I watch an episode another whiskey goes on the list, I first started with makers mark and then moved on to tomintoul 10 and laphoraig I currently have Benromach 10 which you really need to review !!! Next on the list is Suntroy Hibiki Harmony.
Just has a sip of the redbreast 12 .... OMG! freaking amazing!
RB 12 Cask Strength is so delicious
Great review! So far my favorite Irish is the Redbreast 12yr, but it was interesting to see it compared to Greenspot (not yet tried)...nice to know that there are interesting differences/nuances to be explored in the Irish genre, and slightly less of a task than with Scotch. Cheers from Austria!
On Amazon similar glencairn glasses go for $20 per glass. I'd probably go $15-$20 per and maybe a deal of some kind for pairs.
For y'all I'd drop $15-20. Also Jura Superstition has grown on me I think I'm in love with the dark dried furut notes and chocolate finishing note.
Thank you so much for this review. I am getting more into Irish Whiskey and love the taste. Redbre
Yea. The readbreast
Red
Maybe I’m drunk lol
I love Jameson. Thinking this might be nice to try
Nice drink. But totally not a Whisky, let me ask which type of spirit is this?”
Disappointment :(
Well dang! Hopefully you can get your hands on some other whisky!
Redbreast 12 is the whiskey that made me love whiskey.
